Tried Basmati restaurant on family recommendation. Not disappointed. Superb food and service. Immaculately clean. Deceptively generous portions. We had 3 poppadoms, pickle tray (kept for the whole meal), chicken dansak, chicken balti, 2 x pilau rice, 1 x bombay aloo, 1 x naan -£40. The chicken chunks were large, moist and definitely freshly cooked. Reheated meat is often dry and has an odd aftertaste. Doggy bag for tomorrow. Lovely extensive menu although we played it safe with our traditional favourites. However, there are unique signature dishes (for next time). Unlicensed so take your own alcohol. First class. Thank you Basmati staff and our family who made the recommendation.

Service and people were great but the food not so much the fish pakora was soft and had a weird batter not crispy like a fish pakora should be the masala fries were good but the butter chicken had a almost daal like texture it was not that good would not recommend

Went here last night for our daughters birthday, food was excellent, and great portions, service was very good, they noticed it was a celebration meal and at the end brought out a little birthday cake and sang happy birthday, class! Really great evening, will definitely return, Thanks👍.

Without a doubt the best curry and naan we've ever eaten, the Modhi Minty Lamb, and the Jaipur Masala with a Peshwari Naan and the Mushroom Rice was incredible. Big Mac was a great host, highly recommended

A group of 40 of use attended Basmati last night and the food and service we had was excellent. It was my first time back here in a very long time as I'm not that local but it came highly recommended by some of my work colleagues. A great night out.

Stunning food the chicken karahi was saucy and packed with flavour. And the lamb chomps were cooked to perfection. Would reccomend 100% also thanks big mac for the gulab jaman and ice cream

We just wanted to thank Basmati’s incredible staff for such a lovely evening last night, for our son’s birthday meal. We regularly go to Basmati as the food & service is always exceptional. They really go above & beyond to make you feel so welcome & look after you. On this occasion they were also very accommodating with our 6 year old granddaughter by giving her a toy ice cream after our meal & allowing her to carry her daddy’s birthday cake to the table. One happy little girl! All our dishes were fresh, hot & very tasty & the complimentary coffee afterwards was just a nice finishing touch. We highly recommend this restaurant, so please try it as you won’t be disappointed!

Fantastic service from Mac and his team! They made us feel like family the first time we visited and we keep returning for an all round 5* dining experience! Amazing from start to finish, can make your food to your own taste and add/remove ingredients from menu choices without question! Free coffee after every meal as well. Portion sizes are great as well, we often ask to take home leftovers which are packaged like a takeaway and it makes a great lunch the next day! Thanks Mac and team, see you next week! Great restaurant in Newport. the Chicken Korai was dreamy as were the rice and naans. Highly recommended. just note that any alcoholic drinks need to be brought by you. Otherwise 1st class.

Mac our waiter was excellent all night, fantastic service. Food was absolutely delicious, fast, hot and plenty of it - we couldn’t finish it all! Very reasonable priced too. One of the best Indian restaurants we have ever been too, fab every time we eat here.

We received excellent quaility food and the same level of service I expect we would have received had we dined in. Complemented the food with some Kingfisher beers available from across the road. Lovely place to eat with lovely, chatty staff. Our night was made even better by the good service and delicious food. The only down-star was that all dishes suffered from a lack of meat. The sauces were delicious, but we normally receive much more meat than was in these dishes.

(Jan 2023) The quality of the food has dropped considerably in the past few months. Food delivered late, cold, orders wrong and of a poor quality. It's such a shame as this became our go to place when we moved into the area. I hope these issues are resolved, but until then we will be exploring other options. Ok, update time. (Collection) Tried another order (18/08/2023). Quality was back to where I expect. Delicious food, all correct and accounted for. Good value for what was ordered.

These guys deserve a great review. Best Indian around hands down. Chips were delivered crispy and not sweaty like all the other takeaways they were actually amazing. North Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken was superb. Definitely recommending this place to friends & the family. Delivery driver was really nice too.

Went for a meal to celebrate 🍾 our wedding anniversary. The staff are so friendly and nothing is to much trouble. Mac front of house is lovely after having lovely food mac and chef known as Tom & Jerry gave use a surprise desert with a sparkler. Such a friendly place. Can't wait to go again. Our first time Basmati despite living in the area for 23 years. Great recommendations on the food which is always welcome. Warm atmosphere. We will be back

Had my hen night there last night. Table for 6 of us was booked. Took ages to take our order. Finally got poppadoms we had ordered. An hour went by and our food didn't arrive. No explanation or apology for delay. Finally after 2 hours we got our meals, but some of the order was missing! Finally got all of the meals. The excuse was they had had a large group of people upstairs! One guy said I only work here! Obviously taken on more than they could manage. Whilst we patiently waited for our food several groups of people got up and walked out. They need to manage their time better and not book so many people in as they cannot manage! Shame as I had been there many times, but won't be going back now.

Mac and the staff were very friendly and customer focused. The food was great. When I asked for a recommendation, Mr Naga was the dish, and it was so good, spicy but not burning hot. A great place for a date night.
