Situated on Central Promenade, Newcastle, Co.Down the covered outdoor seating gives a truly Mediterrean atmosphere as you admire the views of the harbour and Slieve Donard, the highest peak in Northern Ireland, as it sweeps down to the sea. Choose one of the fabulous Base Coffee drinks or select from the range of herbal teas. For morning snacks try the sausage rolls, croisants or scone with fresh jam. Then later in the day you must try the home baked apple pie of one of the delicious (but huge) tray bakes. Base Coffee is not just a coffee shop, it's a hub for many regulars and undoubtedly you will very quickly feel welcome.

Stopped off for coffee and Traybakes with family and was able to bring dog as we sat outside under canvas. The Traybakes were huge and delicious without being too costly. Will definitely come back when up this direction again 😘

Today we had the best ice cream at Base cafe. Authentic Italian - thick and creamy. Truly delicious. We enjoyed it so much we stayed longer for a cappuccino and Americano. When in Newcastle Base is the place to go.

Thank you to Base for the free coffee to NHS staff I opted for a hot chocolate but was delighted with the free coffee for my sister. This is really a very generous gesture and much appreciated. Base is a really cool hang out spot and always busy as the coffee is great and the location along the promenade with views overlooking the seafront and shore line of the harbour are really relaxing. Staff are great very friendly so thanks again ♥️

Following a long walk in Tollymore Forest Park, we decided to drive into Newcastle for a coffee, along the seafront. Stopped at Base, as it was a beautiful day and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the lovely views. Went to order, but realised they took cash only (we only had card) to which the lovely lady (Kerry) replied “sure you can drop it in another time”. We explained that we were from Belfast and just visiting, but this was no problem. However, in the meantime, we did notice the sign - free coffee for NHS workers and, in fact, we both work for the Belfast HSC Trust! I can honestly say the coffee was one of the best I’ve ever had and the service from Kerry was exceptional - she was so laid back and helpful and, in fact, this was the highlight of our fantastic day trip out. Many thanks Kerry and we will see you again soon!

The only place in town that stayed open from literally the start of lock-down, and always making sure that Healthcare workers were getting a free coffee! Always a word of encouragement to his customers and always thanking us for the work we were doing. We really appreciated it!!! And the flapjacks speak for themselves. I have been visiting Base since the start of jan and I am totally hooked on charlies lattes!! (Caramel to b precise). Its always a friendly place to visit- both staff and locals. And to hightlight how nice- hot drinks are free for all nhs staff at the moment. Very much appreciated.The croissants are also the best in Newcastle! Cannot recommend enough. View over shoreline while having yummy coffee is priceless lol

Great to see small coffee business making a go of it in theses strange times. Fab coffee and lovely boss who makes time for a chat and to top it all gives free coffee to nhs workers.

The hot drinks are always lovely and it is fantastic to see Base open for takeaway drinks in this strange time. Many thanks for being so friendly and kind. Even though I only had Euros we made a good deal. Coffe cappuccino and extra free scone were great. The views from the sea front are great and early opening on saturday morning was handy.

Base was a lovely respite from our typical school holiday weather. The cafe has a downstairs with plenty more seating than we first thought, with the addition of a board games and comfy seating. We very much enjoyed hunkering down with our lovely hot drinks and drying out. The staff deserve a special mention - the right balance of attentive and giving you space, and just the loveliest friendly bunch. Thank you!

Base coffee shop serves the best croissants I have ever tasted , all of the staff are consistently friendly and helpful and there is always a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Also, it is situated in an amazing, picturesque location within Newcastle. But the best thing about Base is the coffee. They serve the best coffee I have ever tasted and every coffee is always superb.

Travelled around Ireland but have never found such good coffee, sensational home made buns and slices and great craic from the local people. The welcome and beautiful setting on the seafront, wonderful hospitality are hard to beat. The cappuccinos are generously large and moderately priced. Just loved it!

Base without a doubt has the best coffee in northern ireland! With fab service, from the lovely smiling staff and delicious treats, you’re guaranteed for a lovely morning/ afternoon/night since it’s open til late! Charlie will keep you laughing while you sit out with an amazing view of the mourne mountains and the sea.

We popped into the cafe to get a quick coffee and to get out of the thunder and lightning! We were served very quickly and the drinks were very nice (I had the deluxe hot chocolate) and the brownie I had was lovely. The brownie was gooey, warm and delicious! As we were drinking the staff were chatting away with us and cracking funny jokes all the time. They made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Great place!!

Totally our favourite place for a coffee and breakfast in Newcastle. Warm welcome and the loveliest lattes and flakiest golden croissants to start the day. We sat outside with our dog and talked to other dog owners, local residents and visitors and the awning was a great place to sit in the sunshine looking out over the sea and a dry place on the day it rained. We loved this place - the kind of place that makes you want to move here, we reckon.

Charlie and his staff are absolutely fantastic. No ask is too much and they will always try to make sure they can make your visit as enjoyable as possible. The coffee is divine, I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad coffee in Base, in fact they have always been delicious . The tray bakes, sausage rolls, scones and cakes are to die for - the portion sizes will never leave you wanting more and are complimented with Morelli’s ice cream! Outdoor seating is always available directly in front of the promenade with views that you will lose yourself in. Very very dog friendly! Water bowls readily available for dogs and they are as welcome as any customer! If you want to enjoy a beautiful coffee and cake with some local craic and divine views, Base is the place to be!

Base coffee serves the best coffee every time. Which is something most coffee shops rarely achieve. The taste of the coffee is delicious and it is always made to perfection. The daily made croissants are to die for as is the great selection of amazing tray bakes. The staff are always friendly and go out of their way to accommodate customers. There is lots of comfortable seating and ample outside seating with beautiful views of the sea. Thanks Base !

The best coffee in Newcastle in my wife's opinion (and therefore a fact!) and I agree. We discovered this place a couple of years ago and don't go anywhere else when we're in Newcastle.

Love this quirky coffee shop! With outside seating complete with rugs, some inside seating with benches and a basement of sofas for stormy weather...this is a year round little stop!

Upstairs more lively, downstairs dimer for the shy or those in need of quiet conversation. Terrific staff and the best bit is that they open later than many places, even in winter where a seaside resort can be a bit forlorn. They just do good coffee and various teas and very proper buns. Newspapers provided.

Lovely place to stop for a coffee, they also do lovely tray bakes that are huge. Have stopped here with our dogs and sat outside and enjoyed the view of the beach..lovely coffee. Well worth a visit.

The recently refurbished Base Coffee is the No 1 coffee shop in town with apple pie to die for and oversized tray bakes. With outside seating it's the ideal place for dog owners to have coffee while the dogs are not forgotten with water bowls for your thirsty pet.

Fantastic services and staff excellent coffee, tea, tray bakes scones. Child friendly with Inside and outside seating with fabulous views of sea and mountains. Also private lower seating area for groups and children.

Habíamos tenido innumerables tazas de café durante varios basura utilizan viajes a medias (vivimos cerca de Brighton) durante los últimos años - de Portrush, de Strangford, a Belfast a Armagh y desesperado por un buen cappuccino. No la estúpida. tipo champán y con espuma - pero uno con un cuerpo y un sabor completo preciosa cabeza suave como una pinta de Guinness (microespuma yo creo que es el término técnico). Y nos ataca en aquí. Me encanta este pequeño lugar. Para ser honesto, estaba un poco reacio a revisión, ya que no quieren que todo el mundo a descubrir. El café es fabulosa, el personal es amable y cordial, como son los clientes habituales (y sus perros). Teníamos una gran café justo antes de subir la colina al final de la carretera - me adrenalina justo esa montaña como una cabra. Estamos esperando para regresar a medias en algún momento y estaré haciendo este mi preferido :) Gracias por el estupendo café - espero que Dios no está atestado cuando vuelva la próxima vez!

Decepcionado con el té y el café. Marido disfruta de una taza de té, pero esta era gris con partículas de polvo flotando en la parte superior. Parecía té y café de muy mala calidad, bastante débil. Nos sentamos fuera, pero esperaba bebidas calientes. De nuevo no es bueno, nos costó más de 6 libras y no vale la pena. Es mejor y más barato en la calle.

Mañana perfecta. . . . . Dejar de Belfast como hora y recorrido termina rush 30 millas por carreteras bastante claro a Newcastle. Este sitio hace un gran café. Normalmente una comida para llevar y sentarse cerca Americano la playa, pero asientos afuera del Café son buenas para sentarse y ver pasar el mundo. Si está ocupado (y no es a menudo sorprendentemente! ) podrá esperar un rato, pero merece la pena. 30 millas sólo por una taza de café? ¿Por qué no!

Nos había pasado esta tienda muchas veces antes. Nos clientes habituales de Mauds justo arriba de la calle, pero nos dimos cuenta en una visita que nunca he disfrutado nada y eran meramente criaturas Mauds de hábito. Alguien base recomendado, y estábamos escépticos, para empezar. Desde el frente parece como una pequeña tienda hasta entrar y desenterrar las cálidas, bien decoradas abajo zona de asientos.

Si buscas cafés y bollos deliciosos pasteles y este es el lugar para visitar! Un excelente servicio al cliente y ¡qué vistas! Situado en una zona perfecta de la ciudad, con mucho aparcamiento, un ambiente muy acogedor y el personal amable.

Visting from sydney struggled to find a coffee to my taste in norn iron after 2 weeks of trying finally found a great capuccino at the base in newcastle it was worth the trip from belfast and the mournes were excellent too!

While over on holiday we searched high and low for a decent coffee. Snotty artisan places in Belfast, bog standard frothy places, pseudo Italian places, you name it... we tried it. In search of a decent cappuccino we happened upon this place on a lovely sunny day. And hallelujah !!!!! The cappuccino was brilliant, wonderful, all microfoamed up and not a big bubble in sight. Thank you for the best coffee we had on our holidays in NI - we'll be back in July. And so very friendly and helpful too. A hidden gem.

Welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Cakes and tray bakes amazing. Biggest sausage rolls I have ever seen. Also has a downstairs area for quieter affairs. I have at some stage tried most of the coffee establishments in Newcastle..... base coffee is strong full bodied with a very pleasant after taste ..... an excellent choice for those that like a great coffee☕️☕️☕️. May I also add the staff have trained to deliver excellent customer service ...... even on the darkest dullest day of winter the views over the bay are just stunning..... keep up the excellent work

I visit Base as often as i can sometimes 3 or 4 times a day. The coffee is second to none and made expertly by some fantastic baristas. The shop has been recently painted and this makes it feel more homely and comfortable a long with the sofas and lovely lighting downstairs. The outside seating area is a beautiful place to sit on a sunny day as the views are amazing. At night there is blankets and hot water bottles provided for them chilly evenings and now with two brand new patio heaters how could you not want to stop for a coffee after an evening walk.

Base has a magnificent location with panoramic sea views and has a lovely European vibe about it. We were lucky to have seats outside. The coffee was excellent. The service friendly, efficient and unobtrusive.

The finest coffee in Newcastle for sure, possibly the best Ive had in Northern Ireland, consistently great. Generous portions of homemade cheesecakes, Ferrero Rocher is my favourite. The homemade tray bakes and cupcakes are just FAB. Amazing views and as a dog lover, I loved the fact that you can enjoy a walk on the beach or promenade, then pop over to this delightful coffee house and sit with my dog, enjoying the amazing views.

Call in every evening for a wonderful cappuccino and must say this place is one of a kind warm friendly staff and customers who make you feel at home sitting out the front with a wonderful view of the sea and mountains, cappuccinos are gorgeous and always have an artistic design on top which adds that little extra to the coffee, great selection of tray bakes a favourite being brownie heated with sea salted caramel ice cream from moreillis next door part of the establishment, definitely a must visit if your in newcastle!!

Base café is a great establishment with a superb view of the Newcastle beach and the Mourne Mountains the staff are incredibly kind and friendly and for the rainy days there's a downstairs area with chairs tables and free wifi it's an all round nice place with great staff definitely worth a visit.

I visited base yesterday to warm myself up after a swim at The Rock Pool. The coffee was excellent - a lovely creamy latte in a large glass. While I was enjoying my latte and the excellent view from the window, I noticed that they also served flat whites (not many places in Northern Ireland do) so I ordered one after my latte. Again it was delicious. There are three seating areas - outside, a few tables in the front of the shop and a basement towards the rear. I sat in the shop area - the tables are tall, so that you can see the view over the tables outside but not too tall to make it difficult to camber up onto.Service was also great. Hopefully I'll return soon.
