Barton Fish & Chips in Central Bedfordshire

First time for a long time thought we'd try our local fish shop takeaway, did not dissapoint. Ordered online for 19.30 and ready to collect on time. Batter crispy, chips too. Plaice and haddock were tasty and cooked to perfection.

I'm not a fan of battered fish but this is thin and crispy, always tastes fresh and I try to have a small fish when possible. We are regular customers now!

We travel from luton about 3.5 miles past some local chippies just to get a piece of fish and chips. This place is always busy which is testament to the quality of food.

The fish & chips are the best around. Food is excellent & the staff are very welcoming. Go their very regularly as the quality of food is top rate.

Went into the chippy st 17:30 yesterday. Cod and chips. Got home, chips as good as usual but fish was hard, batter hard and dried out, obviously bit left over from lunch! So, if you go in here near opening time, ensure you get the fish fresh out of the oil and not the leftovers.

this place used to be hands down my favourite place to eat (takeaway) any night of the week. but for some reason the quality has gone down, it always seems to happen when prices go up. I still come in as often as my stomach needs me too, but bring back the old days. it would make my life

Lovely owners, very clean and more importantly excellent food. Staff are very friendly. OAP discounts on a Wednesday lunch time.

I honestly found this fish and chip shop poor on two occasions.. the taste of the cod is sub standard and the chips are bland.

The portions did shrink but are still ok size wise (not great) but ok. The quality is what separates this shop from most the food itself is lovely, alway empty plates in our house. Not the cheapest a quick drive into Luton you will get bigger portions for less money definitely but maybe not quite as nice

We visited here on Tuesday of this week. We had visited a shopping village and we ready for some lunch. We had fish and chips and sausage and chips. The couple behind the counter were very friendly and polite. The fish was cooked perfectly and the batter very tasty. The sausage was good and the chips were soft and fluffy. It was the best fish and chips that I have tasted in a long time.

Regularly visited here on a Friday lunchtime for a number of fish and chip lunches for work - Friday is fish day! Will take orders over the phone, good hot food and tasty selection of options - worth a visit.

More expensive then in Luton but great quality. Friendly staff , Recommend , will be back again. Lots of Parking, Near a cash point and shop

I ordered chips, curry sauce, sausage, scampi and nuggets and it was fantastic! Firstly everything was fresh, scampi was whole tail and they put plenty of chips, needless to say we were so full! Very reasonable prices and service was warm and welcoming! Highly recommend.

As this is the only chippy in the village it is a shame it isn't better. The staff are friendly enough and it is always busy but the fish is poor quality and the chips are mushy, fried chicken is ok and the pies are good but hard to ruin a pie. Not good value for money.

The taste is just as good as ever but the portions have gone to extremely small for the same price. Seem to be following some major companies here, downsizing but not down pricing. Also the meagre portion of chips I got with the fish today (size akin to a large sardine!) had a lot of very brown overcooked ones. I think I will drive a couple of miles for the foreseeable until I see a return to the good old days from this chippy.

Always excellent quality, especially the fish. The pies are always freshly heated, don't taste as if they've been in the hot area for hours on end. Chips are usually cooked perfectly and not swimming in fat.

Come here once or twice a week, depending on if I want NOT TO COOK. The chips, are good when just been cooked, Sometimes we get warm ones, time we get home they have to be put in microwave. We always ask for fresh Sausage in batter, and Fish cakes, and Cod Roe. Also the chips, when they are hot and fresh, they taste good and worth the money. They need to do Slush puppies, for the Summer.

I don't know why I always feel slightly disappointed every time I visit. Fish is tasty enough but for a large cod it seemed to be the same size as a medium in other restaurants. When you see a nice piece in the warmer it always seems to always go before you get your order as they take your money before serving you. The manager looks slightly scruffy and his hoody is covered in batter splatter. (Needs an apron) Money and food are handled together, has a 5* rating on Scores on the doors so can't be too bad. By the time you get home what were crispy chips and crispy batter are soggy from the steam from being put in a carrier bag and chips are tipped out as a solid mass.

Quick and great service reasonable priced food is great never have we had a problem with our orders we go here quite often

Cold Winter Saturday night and teenage Grandson staying so he and my Husband went to Barton Chippy not been there for couple years. If ever we fancy fish and chips we only go to the Young's Van at Maulden. Wish we had not of bothered fish not too bad. Chips looked awful tasted awful total waste of money so wont be going again. We thought going at 5.30 pm they would be lovely and fresh. Years ago they used to be the best fish and chips around. What a pity.

Always enjoy when we have a Chippy tea from Barton Fish and Chips. The portions of chips are humongous and the fish always nice and fresh and the batter crisp.The owner and his family are always friendly and attentive.

Really enjoyed my chippy tea last night. The chips made with new potatoes were really nice. Both my large fish and my mother's standard fish were delicious with crispy batter. Very clean and prompt service.

My local chippie, a super friendly crew in there, the que can get a bit of a squeeze at times due to the size of the place, but oh boy, its worth it

Used to use this outlet at least 1 a week but don't bother now. The prices jumped up at the same time the quality and quantity fell. Mentioned this to the owner who invited me to visit on a Tuesday between 12 noon and 2pm and get 10% off. I didn't accept his offer.

The Fish and chips are perfect and the staff very friendly but they'd benefit greatly from buying a better quality donner meat. Every kebab we buy has lumps of bone or gristle in it and it's very off putting.

Where are the best Fish and Chips? Barton -Coming from Hull I am a choosy and particular customer. I want fish fillet.. no bones, well battered. Hot and golden chips and of course good mushy peas. Daughter likes their pies. The restaurant always very clean and organised. Serving and cooking staff always happy to help with a smile. Highly recommend. Few years ago ordered 100 Fish and Chips for a village function. Everyone said how good they were. Look no further !!

OK it's a chip shop, but they're great! Staff are excellent - friendly and efficient, good speedy service. The portions are very generous and everything is fresh and delicious. There's also a good selection of burgers, kebabs etc. available which I've tried and recommend. The best thing I can say is that there's normally a queue outside (which I would say is a great recommendation!) - but don't be put off as the queue moves quickly and the food is worth the wait!
