I tried Barron’s today after seeing my friend Mel recommend it several times online. I generally trust why he says so thought I’d take the wife for a lunch date ( I know such a romantic). We pulled up just before lunch opening and people were starting to gather, in my opinion the sign of a good chippy if people are queuing for it to open. My first impression when I walked in was how spotlessly clean the place was, how friendly the lady behind the counter was. We had both had cod and chips and mushy peas ! The batter was perfect not soggy or cakey but perfect! The chips again perfect not over or underdone just perfect. I said we were going to eat them by the river so she kindly put our food in takeaway containers and wrapped them up which made eaten my time easier. In our opinion the best fish and chips we have ever had.

I was recently bought fish & chips from a well-known shop in Norwich. It was my first opportunity to compare them to Barrons. Whilst they were pleasant, they definitely were not as good as my local and delicious Barrons fish & chips. Game, set and match to Barrons! 😋

Since moving to Norfolk, finding “proper fish and chips” has been a struggle, so finding Barrons has been a great thing. Parking is easy on the forecourt outside. On entry, the place is kept clean and tidy. The staff are friendly, (One does the booking, the other the cooking ;) ) Ok so the big question is “never mind the parking or the cleanliness or even the staff , what’s the grub like Michael?” Well I am happy to tell you that the food is great, the chips never have eyes or those weird black bits, they’re cooked to perfection and aren’t greasy. The outside is crispy and the inside is as light and fluffy as that cloud floating in the sky. Saveloys? I am pleased to tell you that they have Savs. for some reason known only to the people who say “Bootiful” and “Yes my love”, its not easy to find a saveloy in gods wonderful county. Norfolk maybe the land of big skies, but it’s not the land of easy to find saveloys, (No pie & mash shops either! Which shows a severe lack of culture. ;) ) Ok what’s the fish like? Well it’s fresh, the batter is light and crispy. Now I need to warn you about the battered sausage, to say they’re huge, is an understatement, they look like you could play rounders with them (Baseball if youre and American). My dogs go mad for them, literally it’s “give me that sausage !”. “I bet the portions are small though!”, mate i have put on half a stone, they literally give massive portions, like their sausages, they dont do things by half in Barrons. Prices? Well we all know the country’s having a rough time, and I’m guessing heating all that oil up isnt cheap, but the prices are very good. So my rating, look go elsewhere for your fish and chips, or have a MaccyD’s, I want Barrons all to myself.

Hustle and bustle this place - no pun intended is always super busy when I visit- the staff all work very hard and the front of house counter staff always polite friendly and efficient. Super helpful. Only slightly downmarked atmosphere as it’s small busy and nowhere to sit if disabled and not wheelchair accessible. Certain they would bring order to car in that case but didn’t like to ask.

Quite Poor. Anaemic chips.Took them 10 minutes to cook a savaloy??Asked for a bag & was told I could buy one on my card for 10p? Won’t Darken their door again as a customer.Also agree with other posts that batter on fish etc.looked very burnt 🔥 🔥.

Great chip shop that is always busy which is reassuring. I don’t think I have seen jumbo sausages like theirs anywhere else. They are delicious too. The staff are always very friendly and the prices and portion sizes are pretty standard.

I orderd a jumbo sausage for £2.20 I thought that's a little over the top but it was huge I couldn't eat it all plus if you ask they do wet fish for a decent price the chips are cooked to perfection I only complain that they don't do delivery but great chippy fresh food batter is golden brown definitely coming here again

We are never disappointed with Barrons. Simply the best chippy in town, run by lovely people who will bend over backwards to make your order the way you like it. We wouldn't go anywhere else.

This is an excellent chip shop, the best in the area. Whilst it is sometime very busy, though to me this shows its popularity, the people serving are always friendly and provide a quick and efficient service. The quality of the fish is brilliant and the chips are great, even better with curry sauce or mushy peas!

*UPDATE* 11.06.2021 Awful, I don't know what has happened. Chips are so dry and overcooked it's like eating dry bread. Portions have shrunk. Fish is over cooked, as are the battered sausages. Batter is tough and chewy. So bad. Barrons. What happened!? We will not be returning. March 2021 Lovely local chip shop. Good food, great portion sizes and good prices. Cooked to perfection. Asked for scraps and was give a very generous free portion. Staff were very polite and accommodating when I needed to make an addition to the order. Social distancing is adhered to and all staff were wearing masks. I'll definitely be returning.

Large means exactly that LARGE at Barron's. Chips were good (not overly oily). One of the cleanest food shops I have been in for YEARS. Good, friendly fast service. Will be returning. Altogether good value for your money.

Everything you want from a local chippy. Friendly and efficient service with excellent food for great value. Portions are generous and it's a dry crisp to the batter - not wet stodge by the time you get it home. Big fan of the fish and the curry sauce.
