Barleo in West Lothian

My son and I visited for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our meal, we both had the veal saltimbocca which was excellent. The service from the two gentlemen however was not, it was rude, impersonal and impatient and only got worse after we paid our bill, which we had not asked for and which included a 10% service charge. This place would be greatly improved if they employed front of house staff with hospitality skills. We will not be back.

Four of us booked lunch here Monday 14th April. On deciding where to go my wife whittled our choices down to two places, Bar Leo and Cafe bar 1807. We noticed on Bar Leo’s website they had a 20% deal of pizza and pasta if you dined with them at lunchtime Mon to Fri. So we booked a table for 1pm..On arrival, apart from another couple we noticed we were the only others in the restaurant. Our food was decent, We had pasta mains and garlic bread and a few rounds of drinks. However on receiving the bill, there was no 20% reduction, on asking Hussein our waiter, he became very agitated, staying that google must be wrong ??, as they didn’t do a 20% offer. My wife explained that she had seen it on his website, nothing to do with google and showed him the offer on her phone , he then stated that this was a March offer, and that the guy who deals with their website was abroad and couldn’t change it? At this point he was becoming very evasive and obviously wasn’t giving us the discount. I paid the bill, and he couldn’t even look at us. What had been a nice afternoon up until this point just left a bad taste. Ironically when we got home later that night out of curiosity I checked Bar Leo website, and guess what?, the offer has been removed.

Visited as a group of four after my sister in law had reviewed the bar Leo was offering 20% off food Restaurant wasn’t very busy which I expected as it was a Monday at 1 pm. Ordered food and drinks, I was a bit surprised there was no lunch or pr- theatre menu so we ordered from the main menu, I must say the food was good so we did enjoy ourselves. The problem appeared when the bill came There appeared to be no 20% deducted on asking our server we were told the 20% offer was only available In the month of march,this was the 14th of April we told him the offer was still available,he then became a bit Irate and told us google was wrong! When my sister in law stated that the offer was still on the bar Leo website, When he checked the website he then stated that somebody had forgotten to take it off, subsequently this has, Now been removed,had I been a bit smarter I would not have paid the service charge as a matter of principle, As we got up to leave the restaurant he could not lift his head up to thank us for our custom,the four of will certainly, Not be back to bar Leo.

Great food and our go to place. It can get a little busy on the weekends, but that goes to show how popular it is. Definitely worth a visit.

The food is very good but the service is rushed from the second you arrive. It’s as if they cannot wait for you to leave. You don’t even have your meal finished but they are clearing the table. Not particularly friendly either The bill is given before you ask and they are waiting for you to leave and it’s not even 8:30pm It’s a real pity as the food is tasty. But the rushed service let’s it down

First day ever in Europe/Scotland, had an early dinner here, had a pizza and tried my first peroni. Wonderful atmosphere, kind and outgoing staff, this was a great first experience across the pond for me. If I wasn’t seriously sleep deprived I would have stayed longer and tried a dessert. Wish I had more time in Linlithgow so I could go back. Highly recommend.

Had booked for lunch as anticipated would be busy. Was with my friend. Started with minstrone soup each and shared foccaccia mozerrella with extra cheese, awesome. The minestrone stock was rich in flavour with a good mix of vegetables. The foccaccia was perfect. To follow we had spaghetti carbonara and penne carbonara with parmesan and ground black pepper. Both were bursting with flavour. To finish off we both had tirimasu with a lovely homemade flavour. With the best of service it was an all round excellent dining experience. We will definetely return and would not hesitate to recommend bar leo to anyone.

First class Italian dinner.Lovely relaxed vibe in a beautiful Italian restaurant.Excellent service.Amazing quality pizzas (we can vouch for the Diavola and the Calzone) salad and tiramisu.There was nothing to fault-we would definitely recommend if you are in Linlithgow.

Food was amazing and reflected the price. With a positive atmosphere and good table service. I would highly recommend!

Pastas and Pizzas both taste great. Staff great with kids and friendly. Have visited many times and will continue to when in the area

Went for a business lunch. They were serving the Christmas menu. Starter was poor. Pate with some supermarket sliced white toasted bread. Main was also poor. Turkey with dry potatoes and poorly cooked tasteless veg. Served by couldn't-care-less staff with mock Italian accents. Prices way OTT for poor quality food. Shame, as this place used to be good.

As I work at Bar Leo as chef I would like to tell you that I consider myself a fair chef and that I give 100% commitment to producing a high quality of food. Come give me a try I think that you won't be disappointed. Service is friendly and very attentive,so come and try us and say Derek the chef recommended Bar Leo.

The venue/decor is OK. Getting a bit tired though. Noisy ice cream machine next to some tables is irritating. Service is generally quick and pleasant enough. The food is very average. Quality of food just does not justify the prices. They charge top $ for pretty basic pizza/pasta. I could cook far better pasta dishes than anything in here for a fraction of what they charge. For the same money in Edinburgh/Glasgow you could enjoy far superior quality food. I feel this is a business that has become complacent and lazy. If they seriously upped their game with the food, I would consider going back.

Visited bar Leo at the start of January for the first time. On entering its difficult to not be impressed with the interior which is warm and appealing. It really does feel like a nice city centre restaurant but in a local town. We all enjoyed our food, especially the ravioli which was superb. The only downside was the slightly pushy waiters who are clearly told to do as much up selling as possible but this wouldn't put me off coming again

This is a good Italian, busy and well managed, efficient staff, a bit pricey but worth it. Note the atmosphere is busy and noisy; this is not a romantic location.
