Bar Castillejar Louth in East Lindsey

No previous experience of this restaurant but what a great choice. We are a mature couple and the quality of the food and the service was outstanding. We may never visit Louth again but if we do we will be sure to book a table to enjoy the tapas once more.

Our first visit and certainly won’t be the last. Excellent, tasty food, great value for money, very pleasant staff. Advise booking well in advance as they are always busy.

Went in at 6pm. The waitress helpfully suggested the amount of tapas that would be enough and we ordered patatas bravas, focaccia, tropical salad, mushrooms, pork ribs, chicken and chorizo. The salad was very large and particularly nice with ham, chunks of pineapple with salad veg and a healthy sprinkle of cheese (prob manchego but not sure). Dessert was churros with chocolate dip and the chocolate fondant. I can happily say that (having had tapas in Spain and London on many occasions) I was more than happy at the quality and freshness of the food. It wasn't immediately served - but that was because it was freshly cooked. I found it to be quite authentic and very flavourful. The staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant was full incidentally when we left so would recommend booking. I would absolutely come here again. (bill was £55).

Came all the way to Louth from Lincoln to go for a birthday meal with friends.I ordered the Aubergine, which should have been charred but arrived at the table raw.The waitress replaced it with another dish, and didn't charge me for either, but the service was very slow and the food generally quite poor. The chef and owner need to visit Ole Ole at The Lawns in Lincoln to see how to do Tapas properly.

Excellent staff, food and atmosphere. Always busy, book well in advance! Menu varies over time, so there is always a new delight to try!

Enjoyed our whole experience here. Even though it was a Sunday evening, the atmosphere was great and the restaurant lively. The staff were helpful and welcoming, and the Chef was really helpful in helping us order, and advised us on Vegan and Vegetarian options. The food was delicious. Highly recommend!

We tried three different small plates and two of them needed more flavor/spice because they were bland (moroccan chicken skewer and king prawns). The snails were good, but so hard to get out of the shell. Nice atmosphere and good service. Quaint location on side pedestrian street. Reasonably priced.

This place always seemed full when we passed and we struggled to get a booking but eventually got a table for mid afternoon and it was well worth it. Whilst the cost can soon add up the food was excellent. The waitress was friendly and explained how the food was served - small sharing dishes brought out at intervals. We were spoilt for choice and could have ordered more if we weren't so full. Would definitely recommend but probably need to book well in advance.

Really enjoyed our visit, service was exceptional - friendly and prompt. The food was perfectly timed, fresh and tasty. Enjoyed some different dishes such as Spanish black pudding and snails, which I haven’t had for a long time. Also, the toilets are even cleaner than my toilets at home (and my wife is a right germaphobe!). In total we had 3 sharers (for 2), 2 alcoholic drinks, plus 8 dishes, churros and 2 coffees - total bill was £82 - this was a fair price for the meal. We will return.

Have eaten here before, couldn't fault the food or service. We had a table booked for 19:30 07-01-23, on not feeling well a covid test was undertaken which showed as positive. My partner called the restaurant advising the booking would have to be cancelled due to ill health at 17:45. He was advised there would be a cancellation fee of £20 per head = £40 unless they could have a walk in/booking to take the table. On learning the same I contact the restaurant explained in full the reason for the cancellation, I requested for the booking to be moved to the following Saturday or for a order to be placed to be collected. I was advised neither would be possible. I was then advised further on booking via their website, my partner would have been informed of the fee & he would have had to accepted the terms & conditions of cancellation. We are very disappointed, we undertake supporting local businesses & are dismayed that such excessive cancellation charges can be applied in this situation even though we requested to move the booking or to arrange a collection.

We visited for a family meal to celebrate my Husband's 30th Birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The food was delicious and all the staff were so friendly and helpful! We'll definitely be back.

Once again an absolutely brilliant Tapas at Bar Castillejar. Menu changes each time we go but it's always a great choice. This is a little gem hidden in Louth.

I can only echo what most other reviewers have said about this excellent little Tapas restaurant. As a visitor to the town, I was pleased to find such a gem open on a Sunday evening. Despite the (very reassuring) social distancing and protective measures in place, there was a good atmosphere and the staff were professional and friendly. The menu is a mix of familiar tapas dishes and some of their own creation : all the ones we tried were good. Their wine list has a selection of reasonably priced, mainly Spanish, wines. Bar Castillejar is a great little bar for authentic Spanish tapas. Hot and cold selection available. Some veggie dishes too. Good atmosphere and efficient service. Decent wine list with some lovely Spanish wines that are not always readily available in UK. Open Wed- Sunday. Thru service from 11am

Have visited previously and loved it but was disappointed with “laissez faire” service today and had to return one dish as firstly not authentic Spanish, and secondly not cooked properly. Complained to waitress who spoke to the chef and she came back and said “ it was as per the menu description and was cooked” and to add insult to injury they added it to the bill and we had to complain again to get it removed.

Good food and a nice change from the usual types of food on offer but the 2 hour time limit on the table takes the shine off particularly when you’ve had the menu for over 20 minutes and still no-one has taken your order but your minutes are ticking away. Tapas is more the social aspect of meeting with friends, socialising and eating. It is a little restrictive to socialise against the clock when there’s half a dozen or more of you. Good food, pleasant location and if you’re already pushed for time you might appreciate the limits. Would not recommended for an evening of relaxing wining and dining.

Nine of us were in town for a few days on a family holiday. I'm so glad we booked this place because the food was fantastic. So many different dishes that everyone could enjoy. From our young children all the way up to grandparents we all had a lovely evening.

Visited again this evening and as always we had a great time. The friendly and efficient service starts from the moment you walk through the door and continues with the food which is of a high standard. Consistency is easy to take for granted and Louth is very lucky to have a restaurant of this quality. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Keep going back, great food, great atmosphere, good choice of tapas, and really does make a change from ordering usual main courses etc at pubs/ restaurants in and round Louth. Make sure that you book as always busy which speaks for itself. We tend to go on a Wednesday and the icing on the cake is the young lady waitress/manager from Fort William who is helpful, chatty, interesting and very personable. Look forward to next time.Oh, and look out for the coffee machine, if you go you will see what I mean - it’s very very impressive.

The tapas are incredible , the menu varies with what’s in season.The service is very good and we have not had a bad meal at all.It is a small restaurant so booking is essential. They also make a good jug of sangria. It is situated down a conked street just so you know this.

Our first visit and just what was needed before an evening watching National Theatre Live (Lehman Trilogy) at the Playhouse. Had 4 dishes as well as bread, potato bravas and salad. Just enough for 2 with a glass of wine each. Enjoyed the crab cakes best and husband enjoyed the lamb chops. Probably wouldn’t order a house salad next time as all the dishes had a small salad with them but I’d order the olives as a separate side. Will be back to try more dishes soon.

Having eaten tapas all over mainland Spain, the Balearics and the Canaries over the years it took going to Louth to find the best we've ever had! We shared 5 dishes between 2 plus bread & patatas bravas which was ample. Lovely, fresh food brought to table when ready from the kitchen so there was a steady stream of hot dishes. Washed down with a nice Chilean Sauvignon blanc and some excellent sherries.

Booked as a girls catch up. Been a few times and the staff are blunt and rude. The food I feel is overrated and it doesn’t taste fresh. I presume it’s mostly frozen. When ordering a salad for the table I asked if it was possible to have the olives on the side as i don’t like them but my friend does. Yes! However, they’re just taken them off a salad as I could still taste them

Recently moved to the Louth area and Bar Castillejar was highly recommended by many new friends and neighbours so booked a table for a party of 6 at 8.00pm last Saturday. Must have caught them on an 'off night' as 2 of the main meat dishes, lamb chops & chorizo meatballs weren't available and things didn't get any better when the waitress confirmed that the Patatas Bravas were frozen rather than freshly made! However the 2 bottles of Coto De Imaz Rioja Gran Reserve were excellent.

Was looking for somewhere to go in Louth as a date night for my wife and I. Stumbled across Bar Castillejar on the internet and managed to book a 9pm table. Headed into town a couple of hours early to grab a drink and was called by the restaurant to see if we wanted to go earlier as they had had a cancellation.

A nice evening with good food. Friendly staff really helpful and keen to help with the menu. will be going back.

Great little Tapas Bar - efficient friendly service, tasty dishes. I have never been disappointed here. Sometimes just pop in for a coffee or light lunch. Evening meals are a treat. Booking ( well in advance) necessary at weekends!

This place is better than you can imagine, (easy, good email booking too), we had a few things on on Saturday so decided to go with a late lunch..5.30..yeah quite late, the bar was fairly busy, but we where greeted immediately and seated, the range and options on drink are good, and the food options even better, and varied ..covers most angles i recon, even fussy British taste!.

Six of us went for my birthday. It was excellent. Important to book as it’s very popular. Their coffee machine is a wonder to behold and produces very tasty coffee too.

Booked for a Saturday Dinner with family and had a very good time with excellent food . Only complaint would be that there was some doubt if all the items on the menu were available . It turned out that the salmon was available but the meatballs were not which is not good planning as it was early Saturday evening .

Always difficult to get a table at this small restaurant and you can never just walk in and get a table. Now I know why. Food was excellent and the atmosphere very relaxed and convivial. Service good too.

Nice restaurant but tapas to use was average. I appreciate a lot of tapas is fried, accentuated by use of cured meats, but we found every dish to be very greasy. Not shocking but busy enough so must be doing something right

We went as a family group of 12 and were given a very wide selection of dishes to share. The tapas were as good as I can remember anywhere and the service was excellent.

Thankfully booked a week in advance, and can see why booking is needed. A wonderful, warm and welcoming restaurant, the food was exceptional, and perhaps one of the best Tapas meals we have had. The serving staff were fantastic, attentive and helpful, great food, great price, great place.

We've just been for our first meal at Bar Castillejar - what a treat! All of the food was wonderful - full of flavour and beautifully presented. We loved the authentic Spanish ambiance and the service was first class. We shall be returning soon!

The friendly staff and good service, coupled with a daily changing menu featuring fresh authentic ingredients, means this Spanish Restaurant and Tapas Bar is not to be missed! The Spanish regional wine selections were also very good. Excellent flavours and some interesting choices made for a good variety of freshly prepared, delicious dishes. Nice atmosphere too. Fortunately, as the portions were sensible and we had ordered 3 dishes each we were able to indulge in the divine puddings!

My first visit to this bar. I am very keen on Spanish Food and was not disappointed in what was presented by the hard working staff here. The occasion for coming here was to say farewell to a works colleague and we were able to book the restaurant in its entirety for a set amount of time. Visited with my wife recently to celebrate our Ruby wedding anniversary. We were looked after amazingly with the Tapas being of a high standard. The service was excellent from the lady who served us who was very attentive, helpful and friendly. A lovely touch was the surprise dessert with a congratulation message on it for our anniversary. Just got back after having a wonderful meal and evening at the Bar Castillejar . Food is to die for and the service is great . This restaurant is small but it is really lively and in a lovely spot in the centre of Louth with lots of parking nearby .

Just loved this restaurant, the food is amazing and such good value. We have never been dissapointed they are so consistant. The staff are very friendly and it is a comfortable place to spen a little time

I booked a table here for a surprise meal for my husbands birthday. It was my second choice of restaurants but I’m so glad the other was fully book on that occasion. We were greeted by a lovely waitress who was very attentive. Then the food! WOW I was not let down. As my husband and I are chefs we can be really fussy and super critical but we could not fault anything. Even something as simple as the bread was to die for! I would highly recommend this restaurant. Will definitely be going back!

I visited with friends and once again we enjoyed fabulous food and a very good service. The evening was spoiled somewhat when we were still charged the deposit for a friend who was unable to attend at the last minute, which has never happened before - so it might be worth remembering the deposit is non returnable, which I wasn't made aware of when I paid it.

I truly enjoyed the food and presentation with the whole night... we got a lot of choice... enough to go away and be full however the service wasn’t how I’d expect.. we wasn’t asked once if everything was okay, coffees or teas at end or anything, we felt very uncomfortable so we left and moved on to another pub in Louth.
