Best Indian food in the Selby area. Our first choice for takeaway or sit down. Favourite dish is Lamb Sag Balti, plenty of Lamb, no gristle plenty of flavour.

Really good food, reasonably priced, attentive staff and a welcoming atmosphere! A young male that served us was really helpful and had a good laugh with us! The negative I have is the fact you have to split the bill between drinks and food as I presume the bar is a separate business however this proves difficult when in a large group however this would not put me off returning.

This place is spilt into two halves bar run by the pub and Indian food run by the restaurant. Indian was lovely and excellent chef and have earned this review two stars, the bar however have lost 3 stars. Asked for small wine then given large wine but said would only charge for small wine, bill comes and we are charged for large wine, disputed this and were told that (John, bar manager I guess) had said because it had been drank they would charge for large wine we were then called a liar for saying they would only charge for small wine. All leaves a very bad taste after a nice Indian and won't return because of it. The place is too far out to be arguing with customers. Just be careful with drinks bill if you go. Arguing with customers isnt good for business.

Average at best, the curries lacked any wow factor, did not look home made but something you could easily knock up from out of a jar at home when time isn't on your side. Disappointing given the other reviews made for this place.

I visited here with my husband. It was our first time and we were not disappointed. We were warmly welcome upon arrival and had a drink in the bar before being seated at our table. We ordered poppadoms and pickle tray and an onion Bharge starter to share (2 per portion), the main dishes were amazing flavours, I ordered the chicken saag special balti and asked for medium spices, this was a taste sensation using fresh ingredients served with plenty of tender chicken. My husband had a chicken jalfrezi which again he said was amazing. We shared mushroom pilau and garlic naan, we opted for a well done naan as we prefer this to be crispy rather than soft and it was perfect for us. The bar is separate so you receive 2 bills one for food and one for drink. It was all very reasonable and we will return. The only thing that could be improved would be the lighting was a little bright for me but that is just my personal preference. A very nice place, well done to the staff.

This restaurant is situated in a newly converted pub in a little village south of Selby. First impressions are that it is spotlessly clean, we could clearly see that the kitchen staff were wearing covers not only on their hair but their beards too, a great start. The front of house staff were efficient and friendly. We had a pickle tray and popadoms to begin and the lime pickle was the nicest we have had anywhere and the popadoms crisp and dry. The starters I am afraid were a little underwhelming. The vegetable pakoras were small, a bit greasy and underseasoned whilst the onion bhaji were large, beautifully crisp and golden but again under flavoured and the bhaji mix floury on the palate. Both our main courses were tasty, aromatic and piping hot though we could have taken a little more heat it may have just been down to our choice of dish. Both the mushroom pilau and garlic naan were great! On Tuesdays and Wednesdays a starter, main and side is an absolute bargain at £14.95. Drinks are very competitively priced with wines around the £20 mark and both draught and bottled beer available. We will be happy to eat here again in the very near future.

It’s been a few weeks now since we visited but I’ve struggled to create the Restaurant in Tripadvisor…….but finally done. So here’s the review. We were a party of four, two couples. Our friends live nearby. It was a Saturday so we’d booked. It’s a nice building, actually it’s the old local pub that’s been closed years, now renovated and is nice. It’s not big. I’d guess 30 covers. There’s still, almost like the old pub bar with some interesting hand pulled beers. We were shown to our table, ordered drinks….I’d a Doombar…excellent. It’s an extremely extensive menu but you might need your glasses, it’s quite small print. It does takeaways but not deliveries….but you can have a drink whilst your foods prepared. We’d the popadoms and raita sauce. Nice before ordering. Then our starters were a stuffed pepper, unusual but nice and a couple of fish pakoras, tasty but we felt the batter a little sweet. Mains were a sizzling chicken tikka, chicken and mushroom balti a tasty lamb and I’d the lamb tikka sag masala, lovely, spices but not too hot. A normal and a garlic naan. Very garlicky…..but great. The staff were chatty and nice. Food was served all together and lovely and hot. The bar tab is paid separately, not sure why….but over all it was around £25 per head. A great addition to the area. Good luck and we’ll certainly be back.

The pub is quite nice. But the hotel is absolutely awful. The room we stayed in (me and a mate doing a bike ride) was a deluxe room. A double bed which was two single beds put together. And a single bed. The mattresses were probably the worst I've ever slept on. But the worst thing was that the shower/bath was actually in the bedroom. With no cover or screen over it. One of us had to go downstairs for a drink whilst the other had a shower and vice versa. Unbelievable. Then the following morning we'd left the bikes in the cellar cos there was nowhere secure to leave them. Tried ringing the contact number on the booking & left several messages. No answer. This place is cheap. But it's cheap for a reason. If you can find somewhere else to stay in Selby then in my experience I would.

What more can I say than amazing food and service. We went for mother's day lunch and I am a celiac and they was more than helpful changing things on the menu so I could eat it. Telling me what was gluten free and wasn't. Also I'm a very picky eater and I ate everything of all 3 courses I had. They was amazing with my daughter who was only 5 took her to meet the chef and allowed her in the kitchen to roll pizza dough and give her a balloon. The meal was amazing and will definitely be going back again very soon.

Lovely little pub, with friendly staff & locals. Cosy inside with a nice coal fire and spacious beer garden for the better weather. Set in a beautiful village with the fantastic woodland walks nearby. Love it

The best pub in the world. That probably sounds like an exaggeration, but for me, this is *the* quintessential English pub. When I close my eyes and imagine a pub, it looks like the Roebuck Inn. A warm, inviting atmosphere with real coal fires, relaxed conversation, tasty and very reasonably priced drinks. In the Summer, a great beer garden. The perfect place end a countryside walk. Whenever my friends visit York, I make sure to take them here - and every time they've comeback, they've made a point to visit the Roebuck Inn. Pubs like this are unfortunately a dying breed. The village owes Jo and Amanda a debt of gratitude for running the place, they are always super friendly - Appleton would be at a huge loss without them here.
