When the UK was in Europe, Caffè Nero was a great company and spot for coffee. Now..2024…absolute garbage. Two staff on the booth, ones on the phone back home WHILE serving as if the job is an inconvenience, tossed the sugar to me on the counter..other team member seemed to be making his own m&s garlic breads on the toaster. Y’all fallen off for real. Shameful.

(updated) The best and most consistent coffee at Waterloo. (15/11/23) Even a year since my last review the coffee is still excellent, and although there is a queue it is always worth it! Ignore a lot of the negative reviews, some people try to find fault in anything.

Wow, what can I say.....the coffee here is very good but recently stopped to get a bottle of water, one of the small one's that evian sell for 65p or similar......I picked through most of the warm bottles and handed it to the man serving who held out his hand and said £1.55 please. 😮 I nearly choked....if I wasn't so thirsty I'd of gone somewhere else. I opened the bottle to drink some and almost spat it out....... it's tap water at best. I think Nero need to take a look at themselves and their prices, in Sainsbury's/Tesco you can get a 2ltr bottle of evian for £1........2ltrs compared to your ridiculous price for such a small bottle.

I have enjoyed eating at the Bangalore Express several times, usually before or after plays at The Old Vic, just down the road. This time however, I was thwarted as the restaurant was shuttered and obviously closed for the future! I enquired at a business next door and was told that it had closed just a couple of weeks previously. What a shame, as their food was tasty and very reasonably priced! There is however, also 'Wahaca' a few doors down, so affordable tasty food is still available in the area.

I have been here a few times and on this occasion it was with an old colleague. The menu seemed more limited than on previous visits , but still had enough variety to choose from. The waitress / assistant manager were both friendly and helpful - although it is was the AM's second night only , so she had to ask other staff whenever we had a question about the food. Hey ho -we all have to learn. The service was quick and the portions for both starters and mains were adequate. In terms of taste , as far as Indian food goes , it was a little on the bland side - especially when compared to previous visits. The restaurant was busy for a Thursday evening when we left: that may be more down to location and trading on the previously good reputation. I would go back if I saw the menu had been spruced up.

Location wise, if you're looking for something quick and easy on the way in or out of Waterloo station, the Bangalore Express is a great option. As long as you get there early (before 6:30 p.m.), seating and service isn't a problem. In fact, it's great. Once it gets busy however, you'll need to catch the eye of a server to get attention. As for the food -- no complaints. My friends and I have eaten there on several occasions; the Thalis are lovely as are the Biryanis. One of my personal favorites is the Butter Chicken Lasagna. All in all, everything on the menu has been tasty! As for the seating, the double decker approach is interesting, but I'm not keen about climbing a ladder for my dinner. Fortunately, if you're there early enough, it's not an issue. The recurring theme; get there early and you'll have a great evening :D.

Looking for somewhere to eat on New Years Eve we stumbled across this restaurant. The menu on the doorstep looked varied so we decided to go inside. Once inside we were shown to the rather unusual seating at the top of the restaurant which is bit bunk bed style. The staff were friendly and took photos of us. The food was fabulous. Whilst some of the dishes were pretty standard curry dishes, I chose the South African Bunny Chow with Lamb curry and it was simply delicious. Similar good choices were made by the rest of the family. To round it off, the daughter was well impressed to be provided with party poppers and trumpets which stayed with us for the rest of the evening.Great meal.

I have been to this restaurant many times as the food is just so good. I really recommend the dosa's...best I have ever had, especially if you opt for the chilli batter! The chutneys that come with the poppadoms are amazing. The food is also so cheap you just can't beat it. The service is friendly although sometimes a little slow. The only down side is they often have coach parties in at lunch times which can put a strain on the kitchen and waiting staff....they are Indian coach parties though which I think is the best recommendation you can get on the food!! Highly recommend this place. I have also tried their branch in the city but the Waterloo restaurant is still my favourite.

Met up with 4 friends at this conveniently located restaurant. Starters were great with options you don't normally see in other Indian restaurants. We were one of the first customers sat down so service should have been better. There should be a system so that when ordering the waiting staff identify who has ordered which dish rather than the food come to the table and the waiter asking who has ordered this? Surely it can't be that difficult? I'm giving this restaurant an average overall rating because service can definitely be improved

Went here with work colleagues on 3 Dec - one of them had been before and had enjoyed it. Walked through the door to see long tables set out but also an incredible terrace of eating booths about 6 foot off the floor - accessible only by little ladders. Never seen anything like this before - great idea. We decided to keep on the ground level as we intended to have a few drinks and climbing up and down to the head high booths may have created a bit of a problem for the older ones among us (me). Menu was extensive and had many things on it I had not tried before - goat for instance. The starters we had were all very nice (I had chilli chicken). Most of us had the combo style main courses - each picks a starter, the main ingredient of the curry (ie: chicken, lamb, meat, fish, veggie), strength of sauce, side dish and rice or naan. I had the Madras which was tasty. I finished with a coconut sorbet and the whole lot was washed down with some Cobra beer. A really pleasant evening in unusual surroundings and would certainly visit again.

We wanted Indian food and went into the Bangalore Express because the menu looked so intriguing. We chose from the first, Indian 'tapas' section and had the mixed grill of lamb chops, prawns and chicken beautifully served on skewers standing in a sort of miniature tin oven with a delicious dipping sauce. Plain rice (perfect, not always easy) and to add a bit of moisture the vegetable samosas with chick pea curry. Small crisp piping hot samosas and wonderful chickpeas - we ordered a second! Some good ice cream, a couple of beers and a very reasonable bill added to an enjoyable evening. The only reason I am not giving this an 'excellent' was the speed with which everything arrived. People around us were only halfway through their starters when their main courses arrived. They need to put this right. We thought the service was friendly and attentive but they are being driven by the over-enthusiasm of the kitchen.

I went for the Lamb Dosas, I highly recommend you try the traditional Southern India dish as it’s delicious. The service was great as they were always quick to respond to any requests and were very helpful talking us through the dishes when ordering the food. The restaurant itself is decked out in quite a quirky way which adds to the experience as a whole. I went with somewhat low expectations, which always helps. With a few friends, we had:poppadoms (£3 for two, cut into quarters) with chutneys etc.mixed-grill starters, consisting of three large pieces of chicken, 3 king prawns, and three small lamb chops (very tasty, but very overpriced at £19)a main meal each: you choose a meat (I had lamb, which was OK, not great), a sauce/style (I had vindaloo, which was not TOO spicy), a veg side-dish (I had chick-peas), and a rice-dish or plain naan (I had naan, which was fine) for £11.50Beers were about £5 per pint, or £3 per small bottle. So you can have a drink, starter, and main course with veg and naan/rice, for under £20, which, given the location and the quality, is good value.PROS:good foodconvenient locationhelpful staffCONS:drinks and some dishes over-pricedtoo noisy

How unfortunate to go there with my husband to celebrate our wedding aniversary last Sunday 10th November 2013 lunchtime. The staff were stressed out and rave music was being blasted so loud from the speakers I had to ask a woman member of staff to turn it down. Despite my very polite asking she found it so inconvenient she rolled her eyes and kept saying she needed a few minutes to do it. She looked at me with despise. I never let her get away with such bad treatment, I told her straight how unprofessional she was, and got a flat empty apology. People should not be made to feel bad for asking to have a better environment in which to eat. Staff at Bangalore are just not trained at all in the most basic welcoming to a customer. Her job was not to resist my request, her job was simply to try and accomodate my request, but she took it personally. Also the restaurant was dirty and dusty all over, one toilet was broken, and the other didn't have toilet paper. After complaining we left without eating, so they lost business over the stupidity of that woman. If you want a nice atmosphere in which to eat with a partner don't go there, this is a place with a negative, stressed out energy, and the staff do very little to improve it. This is a message to management: pay better wages or train your staff in basic courtesy, or whatever it is that they need to actually support the claims of great hospitality you are adverting in you website.

Very handy for South Bank Venues and a stones throw from the Old Vic.I'm glad I ignored the poorer reviews as we had wonderful food and a great time. The menu is a mixture of Southern Indian (Dosas), 'Traditional' Anglo-Indian and Thali. There is also a choice of Italian/Indian fusion along with Indian Fish & Chips and Spicy lamb scotch eggs! This used to be one of my favourite London restaurants. Relatively cheaply priced and located close to Waterloo station it was a great place to meet friends. Sadly, it has let standards drop in almost every area. My meal was bland and tasteless. The chicken curry had hardly any chicken in it and Bombay potatoes lacked potatoes. Although the restaurant was half empty the service was poor. It took forever to get served and the waitress just frowned when I explained what was wrong with the food. It's lucky that a service charge of 12.5% was included in the bill because they would have got nothing from me. This is a restaurant that I used to recommend to all of my friends. Now my advice is steer clear.

Bangalore Express is a South Indian restaurant with multi cuisines. It is a well established restaurant just outside Waterloo station. For the atmosphere - very modern, very relaxed and calm to be attributed to some skilful architecture with a tropical touch quite unusual for Indian restaurants. The cuisine is basically south Indian but not exclusively so - most relevant in this globalised city. The mouth watering tandoori, as most connoisseurs know, are Panjabi at their most exquisite version. My partner and I settled for a prawn starter - Tandoori tiger prawns marinated in lime pickle - which delighted us with its restrained but irresistible flavour. The well integrated and the mildly spiced gravy greatly enhanced its taste. Our main course was lamb biryani. We can not remember eating such a delicious biryani for a long time. Although one did not need a curry for it, we did go for a dish much loved by South Indians, a Kerala fish curry with a generous spread of appropriate spices which were subtly integrated with masala mix, a sure indication to the discerning Indian palate of what we call the real thing. Very sensibly no attempt at Anglicisation with apple slices! We had a very good choice of vegetable dishes but opted for a plate of Indian green salad. Vegetarians are spoiled for choice at this restaurant and there are some wonderful meat and chicken offerings as well at very affordable prices. A word about service - this is of the highest standard, courteous, considerate, cheerful and most professional. There is a very fine selection of Indian, British and foreign beers and the usual scotch and Gins and Vodkas and rich wine list to choose from. A meal for two with drinks would not exceed £25.

My good lady wanted to leave but I thought we'd better stay as it was getting late. The menu is a bit odd. India/Italian fusion........mmmmmmmm...... Really. Pizza with curry toppings and chicken korma lasagna plus other odd stud but also some of the usually curry dishes but you need to make them up off a list and there is NO changing the system! The food was odd and not really very good. The service was rushed, I know it was late, but not great. If we were there agin.. No thanks, not again. Inside it's odd with tables up by the ceiling with ladders up. I hate to think how that's going to work with H&S. Anyway. Not great but it was open and I had a couple of beers so there you go...

We had wanted to visit this restaurant for quite some time, the menu looked interesting and the 2 tier seating looke like fun! We arrived at the restaurant without a reservation and were greeted and seated immediately, the restaurant was empty so we were able to pick where we wanted to sit. We chose to sit on the 'second tier' as this was unusual! It all went down hill from here! We received no service for a good 10-20mins and it was hard to attract someone's attention as we were no longer at eye level. When we were finally remembered our order was taken, the waiter was helpful and answered any questions we had. Our poppadoms arrived stale and with out dip, we had a further wait for our drinks, the food all came shortly after, and then came the plates for us to eat off. The duck rolls were dry, and the jumbo prawns juicy but tasteless, the South Indian chicken curry was spicy, which the waiter has informed us of, but apart from the peppery heat there was very little taste. The coriander and green chilli nan was delicious and the tamarind rice was more like cous cous but still fairly pleasant. Overall the experience was disappointing, a real shame to say we had been so excited to visit.

Very poor customer service. We were served our mains before the starters. Luckily it was just poppadoms, but still quite strange. When we arrived we only had three menus on our table, although there were 4 of us. No one came over to check. When making a booking over the phone earlier that day I got a confirmation that we will have a 10% discount (we have a deal for a corporate discount with this restaurant so I wanted to use the offer), however when our bill arrived it didn't reflect the discount. I pointed it out and a manager came over, she said she'd never heard of this and since I didn't remember the name of their member of staff on the phone they can't offer the discount since "it wasn't her on the phone". Her attitude was very rude too. She agreed to do it on that occasion though. I won't come to that place again, I just don't think Bangalore can afford having such poor customer service considering how many nice Indian restaurants there are in London.

I could not finish my Chicken Biryani (£10.50) as was too much (& I can eat!!). The only letdown was the after service! Plates cleared pretty quickly but we decided we wanted another round of drinks. It seemed that no matter how hard we tried we could not get a waiter's attention!!! Yes, it was getting busy (7.45pm) but there was plenty of staff. maybe they didn't want us to take up a table drinking! But bearing in mind no one had even asked us if we wanted a desert menu, so we would have been there longer anyway. Finally managed to order a drink (much to the annoyance by the look on her face! of the waitress) as she obviously thought we wanted the bill & were leaving! That said & done, I will eat here again & would recommend. I have never had any starters so cannot comment, but have enjoyed mains & deserts on previous visits. (Peshwani & Keema Naans very nice).

Went here yesterday and ordered the two course for £12.50 - and was thoroughly ripped off.The first course was so tiny I needed to put a pair of glasses on to see where it was and the second course curry (madras) was like one I make at home - poor - along with some very small accompaniments: rice - a bit of raita, a miniscule nan bread (a 1/4 of the real thing) and some other goo.On top of this they banged on 12.5% as a service charge - so it was not £12.50 but £14 - which is misrepresentation from the school of Ryanair.I feel a bit hard done by - so folks be warned this so called deal is a rip off.

Happened across this restaurant when visiting London with a friend and his young daughter. Upon walking in we were immediately intrigued by the seating arrangement; doubled height booths which seemed to be very popular as they were all occupied and we were seated at the end of an empty long communal table.Although seated promptly, it took a further 15 minutes before we could get the attention of a waiter, by which time we were ready to order drinks and food. We ordered shared tapas of the Lamb Scotch Egg, Fried Prawns with Chilli Jam, Lamb and Pepper Brochettes, Chilli Chicken and a Grand Indian Thali (all to share between us). The food arrived promptly (perhaps a little too quickly) but we tucked in intrigued by the array of tapas. In terms of appearance, like the restaurant, the food looked lovely but lacked substance and flavour. The battered items all seemed to be battered in the same mixture which lacked any bite or seasoning. Their mint sauce however was very good. While the spinach roomali bread was soft and delicious (as warm bread generally is) the rice must have been cooked hours ago as it was dry and parts of it were lumped together rather than individual grains. The scotch egg was intriguing but again the lamb mixture was really quite bland. Lamb curry seemed as though it had a tomato base, which is fair enough but the sweet taste was not appetising.Overall the food was medicore at best. The restaurant is quite noisy but we were fine with this as it was early evening, filled with office types rather than tourists. The waiter was jovial and made conversation when checking on us and when taking the card payment. Made my friend's 3 year old laugh and smile which is always a positive. £54 for 2 adults and a 3 year old with a couple of soft drinks and cocktails each. However on the balance of it all, I would not return unless to show someone the fascinating seating arrangement.

I went to the restaurant with friends and we couldn't hear ourselves speak as the music was so loud. When I asked the waitress to turn it down, her attitude made me feel as if I'd asked her for free food! Not a good start to my meal!

Jad a very good experience here with food. Extremely tasty and good value for money for a Indian food snack before setting off for the evening. Not sure if they could have bettered the meal.

The menu has been vastly reduced from my previous visit. Food reasonable but not fantastic. I was embarrassed to have recommended the place. Service was slow and toilets were atrocious.

My friend and I dined here on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't too busy, but the service was a little slow. The staff are very nice though. The food was good, but a bit expensive. I would eat here again if the food was less expensive.

A friend and I decided to visit Bangalore Express, we love the setting of the restaurant and the creative bunker booths (two levels), we sat upstairs for the experience. The food (Indian) was great and the prices are ok, however we were very disappointed at the service and the staff. I mean I can see the owner probably or one of the higher rank staff who can tell that people were not satisfied by the service or waiting for a waiter to wait on them but did not do much. we were very disappointed. For my next visit to London, I may stop by, but not positive.

We decided to grab a quick bite at Bangalore Express Waterloo, having been here before some time ago. It was overall a disappointing experience. Although we got our food quickly, the food was not at the same standard it was. The sag paneer was lower in quality. The tandoori roti came with lots of butter on it, when we didn't want butter on it. When we asked the waitress, she just said it comes like this because "they" always put a bit of butter on it and didn't budge to change it. We finished in 30mins, but our table remained uncleared until after the bill. The worse is that as soon as we finished our meal, the waitress brought the bill without asking. The cheekiest is the 12.5% service charge which is supposed to be optional, but doesn't say so on the bill. We refused to pay which was fine, but most people wouldn't notice, so I would suggest you look closely and evaluate whether the service is worth 12.5%. The service here is non-existant. Will not come again.

This is my second review of Bangalore and I've had to knock it down from Very Good to just Average. It's not for the food which is still a great deal- large portions for the price and offering good value for its location. The atmosphere is still the same- quirky but quite appealing. What spoilt it for me is the way the staff have deteriorated. The service used to be OK but it has got worse over the past few months- as many other TripAdvisor reviews will attest. I was particularly irritated from my visit yesterday. My party had asked for a high level table but were told there weren't any free. This wasn't true- there were two clearly free and subsequently more available. The waitress didn't smile but just grunted as we were led to our table. The drinks waiter was very abrupt, the drinnks server equally so. The food waiter didn't smile or offer any service and again the food was served without smiles or comments. Nobody asked us how our meal was. I was barged by other staff without apology. I had to proactively ask for the bill and again got no response from the waiter once it was paid. Nobody said Goodbye or indeeed offered any please or thank you throughout the evening. If this venue is to succeed it needs to raise its game as far as its front of house workforce are concerned. Somebody else recently commented that this has the rudest staff of any Indian restaurant in London- I would agree. It is a shame for a place that is otherwise quite good it has let itself down in this way. Finally, they should scrap the 12.5% service charge- no wonder they feel they have to impose it. It is a complete joke. Refuse to pay it.

We happened on this restaurant as we were heading to Sainsbury Local from Waterloo Station. My husband loves Indian/Middle Eastern food, so this looked like a good bet.The double-decker seating is unique, and we were happy to be in a lower booth. It was a very hot day in London, so we had asked for tap water, and they brought out a pitcher - which we drained immediately and really would have liked more. But it took forever for the server to return to take our orders. When the food arrived, it was very good. We all enjoyed everything we got, but really would have liked the service to be a bit better.

My kids love Indian food. That being said, we all had a great time. The booths are stacked in two rows, one on top of another, and we climbed up a ladder to a top booth. It was like a tree house! The food had great depth of flavor, and wasn't heavy. I had chicken thigh tikka, which I loved. The children's meal was excellent. It included drink, main dish over rice, fries, and dessert. The portions were perfect and the prices were reasonable. The service was prompt and friendly. It was a great experience and we definitely would go back.

I had eaten here a couple of times and enjoyed it, so went on 15th July 2013 with my wife, and a work colleague visiting from India. We arrived just before a coach party. Warned our food would be delayed, but were offered some complimentary poppadoms. After 10 mins a spice tray arrived but the poppadoms never arrived. After 30 mins, our drinks arrived including a jug of water, but no glasses which we had to request. We were brought different beer to that ordered. The coach party left and the restaurant was fairly empty now. The main course then arrived, but before the starter which came later. When questioned, informed we hadn’t made it clear we wanted the starter first. We had to request cutlery. Then we had to request serviettes which were slammed onto the table. Food was good. Table was cleared and we asked for the bill. After 15 minutes, we went to the desk and again requested the bill. After a further 10 minutes, went to the desk again and explained they had 2 minutes to bring the bill before I left. It arrived within 90 seconds including a 12.5% service charge – you can guess whether I paid the service charge.

We arrived as a couple, totally unannounced at approx 5.30pm on a busy and very hot Saturday afternoon. We were met at the door and welcomed and we chose to sit in one of the rather unique upstairs tables. Unique in the respect that you actually have to climb a ladder to access it, just like a bunk bed from my childhood. (Warning, if it's a hot day, it's the hottest part of the restaurant too.)Orders taken, drinks arrived quickly and starters soon afterward. It's a very interesting variance on the usual fare you would see on an Indian Restaurant. Mains later. All in all very enjoyable. Staff were okay and pleasant. But it is odd speaking to a waitress who pops up at the side of your table! I'm allowing for that in my review. Try it. See for yourself. I think you'll enjoy it. It's just between Evan's Cycles and the 24hr Sainsbury's Local on Waterloo Road. Right outside the Station.

Across from Waterloo tube station, Bangalore is a bustling restaurant offering very tasty Indian food. Service is prompt and courteous. Food is excellent. The restaurant has the speed of a fast food restaurant and the sit-down experience of a regular restaurant - best of both worlds!

After stale popadums which we left, I had to send back my lamb and lentil main course as the lentils were not cooked, main came back but the lamb so dry and chewy I left it all. Another of the party ordered chicken with garlic, chilli and pepper....but had to ask for some chilli and pepper for on it because she couldn't taste any. They wouldn't even deduct the popadums from the bill and automatically added in service. The third meal in the party was ok. From the sounds of it, this place isn't what it was a few years ago. Won't be going back.

One of the best South Indian thali that I had and that too in London--not in India! The sabzis, rice, dal and especially the sweet (kheer) was very good. as we had our reservation we were served quickly. The basement was quite spacious and nicely decorated.

We have visited this restaurant in the past as it is convenient to London Waterloo station and used to bee good value for money. We decided to visit again today and were very disappointed. The menu has changed and there did not seem to be as much choice. My meal arrived and there was a significant wait before my husband's meal arrived. My husband ordered the Tandoori chicken which came with chilli fries, he also ordered a Naan bread. Each part of the meal came separately with a delay each time. It was almost an afterthought that my husband was given a plate for his chicken which was supposed to be half a chicken but had hardly any meat on it plus it was burnt. I ordered the small plate chicken tikka massala which was basically a few chunks of chicken in a sauce and some naan bread. We decided to skip dessert and went to pay. A 12.5% service charge had automatically been added to the bill. Unfortunately, I did not realise until after we had left otherwise I would have insisted it were removed as the service was, like the meal, nothing special. The staff did not seem to be that bothered when we complained about the food and we did not feel we got value for money. We will certainly not be going back again.

A works team night out and great fun, good food. A different style of venue, open shared tables and some loft tables accessed via short ladders, which added to the fun. Very tasty food and some lovely pickles and sauces (the naga chilli sauce proved a firm favourite). The mint paratha and keema mattar were great, and the mega burgers looked fantastic. The staff Rae a little chaotic, but somehow this does not detract from the overall experience. Decent prices and an overall decent experience.

Really looked forward to going here and i was a bit disappointed. The inside is very nice and the food looks good but something missing ... not sure what really ... have been a few times to give it a good go but will call it a day and eat elsewhere as their are some great restaurants around this area. Not all that cheap either really.

We have been to this restaurant a few times before and was quite pleased with it until today, decided to have a fathers day dinner with the whole family. The children's meal were enjoyed by my children but unfortunately the pre-theatre meal was a disappointment, lamb curry with peas was minced not chunks and very salty, did not look appetising very clinical with 2 silver bowl, rice, nan and minced meat looked like hospital food ate half of it but my husband just ate the rice and nan bread, no one even came to our table to check if everything was alright. The waitress was very nice and friendly though, we were watching other customers come in and waited around for a bit to be acknowledged was not acceptable for an empty restaurant. The restaurants toilet was a major let down, my husband took our 4 year old daughter to the disabled toilet and to his surprise it was being used as a storage space!!! That just said it all, even though this is one of my older children's fav restaurants because of it's decor, even they would not want to go back anymore. What a shame!! and what's with the fruit flies???

Four of us went early evening and enjoyed their pre theatre meal using tokens. Limited choice but all very well explained, Non dairy concerns handled well and efficiently by supervisor. Food was excellent. A mistake in ordering on our part was efficiently remedied by the restaurant. Thank you. Would return to this and/or other Bangalore Express restaurants.

I always have the same, sad I know, but the chicken tikka, peshwari naan and bhini bhaji are excellent! And I have had a few of these from a variety of places. The naan is well filled, soft and yummy. The chicken delicious as is the okra. The other half has lamb passanda and rice. He says it is a delicious blend of sweet and spice. And all for under £25 A wonderful, local restaurant. Thank you

Local takeaway, usually great. Unfortunately this time the food was not up to standard, the korma had no flavour whatsoever, it felt as if it had just been warmed up in the microwave. The delivery time was also awful, considering that it's local. Although, they are very nice people and were apologetic, it is still a disappointment.

Third time I've eaten here. The Cut was busy and it was a warm evening, they opened up the front of the restaurant so it was all very pleasant. Food and service both excellent, the restaurant was full but we weren't hurried. A meal for three with drinks and two courses each came to £110 which is excellent for the quality and location. Thoroughly recommended.
