Banchory Lodge Restaurant in Aberdeenshire

Popped in for relaxed outdoor lunch with our dog. Greeted warmly and the service continued to be excellent. For once a feeling that someone was in charge, something sadly lacking on so many places now. Great lunch menu with some unusual dishes. Very tasty. Proper device. Highly recommend. We will be back!

After a hike around the Dinnet hills, waterfall, and ruins of an Iron Age settlement with stunning scenery, we enjoyed a delicious lunch in a country house restaurant brimming with charm and character. The food was local Scottish cuisine and was unbelievably delicious. The staff were happy, helpful, and courteous. They had great gluten free options. I enjoyed the Cullen skink, a creamy soup of smoked haddock with gluten free bread on the side. Absolutely recommend a visit. They also offer a traditional afternoon tea. Pre order gluten free option with your table reservation. They are only too happy to accommodate. Had a brilliant lunch with family

A lovely experience and great service We visited the Banchory Lodge for an evening meal, and we were not disappointed. Both of us had starters, my wife had the chicken wings, and I had the Garlic Prawns, both of which were delicious. For the mains, my wife had the Sea Bass, which was beautiful and I had Fish & Chips, lovely and I couldn’t finish it, too much for me after the prawns

This is such a beautiful spot where the rivers Dee and Feugh converge. We had a window seat overlooking this beautiful view on a sunny day. We were attended to quickly by Davut who was well able to explain what was available and give his recommendations on both food and drink. The other serving staff were really smart and efficient, although may need some training in friendly conversation with guests. We chose the Deeside Butcher's Block for two with a selection of steaks for sharing and a choice of two sides and two sauces. We were not disappointed and it was just the right amount. For dessert one of us chose Cranachan which was beautifully presented. More than enough for one in my opinion... but husband was delighted to help me eat it! If I had anything negative to say about it, that would be that it seemed to be missing that lovely toasted oatmeal addition normally associated with Cranachan but tasty nevertheless with fresh raspberries and really delicious shortbread . It can be embarrassing when the tip is already included as it is presumptuous and also very embarrassing for anyone not inclined or not able to pay more. However, no discretionary tip was added to our bill although this seems to have been the policy. In any case we were glad to add a tip by way of appreciation. Overall a lovely and memorable experience.

Extremely disappointing visit to this badly run establishment - would suggest to AVOID at all costs!! I was completely shocked by the attitude of the staff, particularly the young waitresses (brunette) and blonde assistant manager are in desperate need of proper training. From start to finish they were unprofessional, uninterested, unfriendly and extremely unhelpful. Our party of 5 ended up walking out without so much as ordering a drink - admittedly partly because we were not offered or asked if we would like one but mostly because we could not possibly stay to be further insulted by the level of service. No apology was offered by staff. I highly suggest training your staff to an appropriate level, perhaps suggesting they be friendly as opposed to stand-offish and plain rude. Will definitely not be returning. How disappointing.

The food was great. We sat outside in the Sitooterrie. Comfortable, relaxed surroundings. Beautiful historic building in a lovely location. Friendly and helpful staff.

Enjoyed dinner in the beautiful, upscale dining room. The coconut shrimp was good but did not enjoy the Indian dipping sauce. Husband enjoyed an Indian main course and I settled for the caesar salad. With no reservation the second night, we were seated in the patio shed; not my favorite! But to my surprise, the service out there was just as good as in the dining room. I enjoyed a burger and my husband raved about a Thai noodle dish.

Excellent menu which did not disappoint - the halibut was fabulous. Great service too. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We had booked one of the sheds for our anniversary lunch. Several reasons why this visit was poor and disappointing. The waiting staff seemed dis-interested, the food was mediocre, the service - shocking and we felt the meal was overpriced for what it was. It's a shame because Banchory Lodge is special to us as we got married there so we do have a soft spot for it but I don't think we will bother going for a while. If you've got Davut looking after your table you will have a wonderful experience, any of the other staff don't seem to have any waiting or restaurant experience. Overall not good for a place we used to call a hidden gem .

I've been here several times and it's my favorite restaurant in Banchory. Food and service good but on the bill for my first time there were tips included. I thought was at discretion of the customer to decide the amount of tips to leave. Anyway, I didn't want to feel bad and didn't remove the tips.

The menu has local selections perfectly prepared in a great atmosphere. They have nightly specials as well as staples like steak, fish and chips, and cottage pie.

We were looking forward to joining family for Sunday Lunch at the Banchory Lodge. We were disappointed though : although the food was tasty, it wasn't special - and seemed particularly poor value for money when compared to smarter restaurants in the area. The service was atrocious - we won't be back in a hurry and wouldn't recommend a visit.

Amazing Food, Amazing Service….We loved our stay here and the food was sublime. Highly recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to eat or stay in Banchory.

Lovely waitress; reasonable food although a tad overpriced. Gorgeous setting. Went to pay with credit card after 10pm on a Friday night and card machine/internet connection was not working. Had to go hang around for over half an hour while they phoned tech team to no avail. We scraped together all our cash and were £1.32 short of our £85 bill. As we had waited so long, we expected this small sum to be waived. However we were asked to return the next day to settle the paltry balance. On protest, the man in charge said it wasn’t his fault in a rude tone with no apology for our extended delay. On challenge, he backed down and let us leave without having to return to pay the £1.32 the next day. This left a really bad taste in our mouths at the end of the meal and we won’t return although we are locals.

It was a very hot day and we thought this looked like a nice place to have a drink, with seats looking out over the river. We should have been warned by the unhelpful (verging on patronising) attitude of the receptionist to the woman checking in, in front of us. When we asked her if we could sit outside and have a drink, she insisted on checking her seating plan, despite the fact that it was late afternoon and we could see the almost empty deck from where we were standing. When we walked though the (empty) restaurant to the bar, we waited for almost ten minutes as 3/4 staff in uniform walked past us without acknowledgement. Finally a bored looking young man appeared behind the bar and began to fiddle with the beer taps, without even making eye contact, let alone asking if he could help us. At this point, we decided this ‘too cool for school’ attitude was not for us and walked out, informing the receptionist that she needed to have a word with her bar staff if they wanted to keep their customers. Will not be troubling them again!

Had lunch in the bar/restaurant. Good choice from sandwiches to large, sophisticated mains etc. We had full three course lunches. Food was of an excellent standard with some interesting twists. service was attentive without being overbearing. Good selection of drinks including cocktails made by the knowledgeable bar staff

We have been here many times and it was the same old story - food was nice but service was SO SLOW and disinterested. Waited over an hour to eat anything, no offer of more drinks, no check backs, no apologies. Really disappointing.
