Banana Leaf in Swansea

Tried Dosa at this place and was really disappointed. The Mysore masal dosa was sub standard. The Sambar was bland and just tasted like hot water, the worst sambar I tasted in the UK. Chutneys were ok . Will give it a try again in future avoiding Dosa. They said the Welsh people like the Bland taste so the restaurant is preparing like that.

We didn’t have a reservation but were able to be squeezed in. We saw a lot of people get turned away though so reservations are advised. We thoroughly enjoyed our food. All of it was incredibly tasty and well prepared. The portions were ample and we ended up taking a lot home. I personally really enjoyed the egg hopper mutton Sri Lankan curry and the potato curry. Be warned - there are no spice levels on the food. As someone who considers myself good with spice I found one dish too hot for me. They’re super friendly so just make sure to ask before you order if you’re not sure. All in all we had a lovely time and will definitely be back.

Had a takeaway and delivery from banana leaf and was disappointed with the meal that was given to us. Expectations was high looking at reviews but food was poor.

Worst service ever! I had a problem with uber eats and they couldn’t contact me and when I called the restaurant, the restaurant person was so rude and yelled at me and treated me really badly. I decided to never order from this place again! WORST SERVICE EVER. quantity of the food is much lesser than what you pay for as well.

Visited as part of a large group having attended a function during the day. Due to the size of the group (40 of us!) they had asked us to pre-order meals, which we did. Staff had a copy of the spreadsheet of orders (as did our group leader) to make sure all orders got brought out to the right people. Food was aboslutely gorgeous. Best Biryani I've ever tasted. Some interesting other meals, all of which our group thoroughly enjoyed.

My veggie partner was amazed to have almost as much choice on the menu as me rather than the usual token menu items that tend to be the same thing over and over. That doesn't mean there was any shortage of choice for me! The food was also really good, quite different to anything we've had elsewhere, but without resorting to strange ingredients where you've no idea what they are! We had Dosai (as shown in the picture) and it was great. Service was also great, the restaurant is much more lovely inside than the area of Swansea it's situated in and if we're ever back in town it will certainly be on our list of To-Dos. If there's a veggie in your group then this really is one of the best choices going!

Just had the worst experience, have visited multiple times earlier but this time was worst. I had ordered egg kothu Paratha and found egg shell, when I informed the manager he literally used his hands and removed it from my plate and passed a comment it's common to find a egg shell in this kind of dish. On top of that he gave a chicken gravy with egg kothu Paratha ( I am a eggeterian).

The best southindian shop in Swansea ,for a nice family and friends hangouts. Authentic taste in all dishes . They serve both veg and non veg dishes with awesome taste. Tried Mysore masala dosa and onion oothappam; and both were awesome . Nice ambience , good friendly polite staff.Quick service in style. Idli sambhar just made us feel we r back home.Masala tea tried was also above avaerage. They have renewed the interiors and the menu. What a fantastic restaurant. The menu was full of delicious options, we each ordered different dishes with the intention of sharing and every dish was a hit. Very flavoursome, and the mutton, which I am not usually a fan of, was so good I stole the last morsel off my Dads plate! The staff were very friendly and helpful, we had a very special evening here. Enjoyed food everytime I have been here

Always been ordering online. Just wanted to have food in the restaurant and experience it. The place was quiet free and only 4 tables were occupied. The food was excellent and was made just as we wanted it. The young girl who hosted us was really sweet, helpful and welcoming. She even suggested us the dish and explained why it's different from others. The one star for the service is given for the other guy (bald head) who kept us creeping the whole time. Only thing that bothered me is, he visited every table to check on them except for ours. May be because we were brown and the other tables were not brown or could be some bizarre reason. Overall it was an unpleasant experience and would warn others before visiting the place.

Lovely food, fabulous service every time , delicious food never fails

Me and my family came to this restaurant and it exceeded all expectations and more. The service was impeccable and the staff was easy to communicate and quick at their jobs. The food was amazing. The descriptions on the menu are exactly what they say, and the atmosphere was true Sri Lankan/South Indian culture.

Absolutely loved this restaurant. The food was so flavoursome and fresh. The service was swift and although a mistake was made with our order it was swiftly rectified. We went on a Monday night and it was testement to the success of the restaurant that it was almost completely full. We will certainly return.

Delicious food curry mild medium or hot cooked to your liking friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere

korma a little sweet but really tasty

Food arrived quickly after ordering, and what a taste sensation it was. Have eaten Indian food for many years but never tried South Indian cuisine. Generally spicier and hotter but so much flavour. Never had a curry in a crepe served with a side of lentil soup but it was very satisfying. Staff were very helpful and happy to explain everything on the menu. Will be returning very soon.

Went here for dinner yesterday evening and I must say that the food was outstanding. The portions were very generous and the prices very reasonable in comparison to other Indian restaurants in Swansea. Many vegan options too which I was delighted to see. The type of cuisine they offer was familiar but different in comparison to other traditional western style Indian restaurants which I found very refreshing. The curry I ordered (Channa Masala) was probably one of the best curries I've ever had. I will definitely be returning.

First visit and we will definitely be going back. We had a selection of starters, all great but the cauliflower the star of starters. We had selection of mains. 2 Vegan diners in our party and they were spoilt for choice . Restaurant very clean, staff helpful. Not surprised they were busy.

Consistently phenomenal South Indian food. Absolute go-to for tasty, spicy dishes with a great selection of vegetarian options there too. The chicken is always well cooked, served as generous portions. HIGHLY recommend :) Ben

I had a very lovely experience at this restaurant. The wait staff were friendly and professional. The menu was full of choice and intrigue for someone not well versed in Sri Lankan/ South Indian cuisine. The choice of vegetarian and vegan options is a stand out positive to visit. You can tell the food is prepared by someone who is talented and knowledgeable about food. What a blessing. All the food was lovely but the Gobi Manchurian was incredible. Just outstanding. There’s a lot to sample and I really want to revisit or take-away to try it.

However, We encountered a distasteful experience due to an uncourteous behaviour of the supervisor/manager who wouldn’t let a hungry kid have his small pack of chips brought along while waiting to order food. We were told by the restaurant manager/supervisor that it is considered rude &against the company’s policy to have outside food in the restaurant & was told to remove the chips packet from the table and put it in our bags. One of us had to take the kid outside of the restaurant to have his chips and come back to resume having the ordered food. I second following the policy, however I strongly felt that the manager needs some coaching on hospitality and communication skills. Hopeful for change!

This was the best meal out we've had in years - the food was so fresh and tasty, and our waitress was so incredibly kind and attentive to us, always at our side in a second when she could see we needed anything! Can't recommend highly enough - we will be back and back!

I placed an order at7. 49 and the order was confirmed at 7.59 PM from just eat with expected delivery at 8:40PM. Called banana leaf at 8:50 PM and owner is busy explaining he only had 2 drivers. The food was not delived at 9:12 as I am reviewing and the owner calls back to say the driver was waiting for someone. He kindly asked me not to order when I reminded him the delay. First have more drivers and don't give silly reasons. Waiting for food in banana leaf is resurrection. Your services are terrible! I promise I wont order, I will also pass on the messsGe, please don't worry.

I've eaten here a few times with my partner and always been blown away by the food, so for my birthday this year I thought I'd arrange a meal with some friends to share the deliciousness with loved ones. Big mistake. The restaurant clearly don't want to cater for large parties (there were 12 adults and 4 kids in our group). We booked an early table at 5pm to make this easier for the restaurant and free up the space for evening diners. From the moment of our arrival we were treated with utter contempt, bits of our order never turned up, drinks took ages to arrive. When it came to leaving, we were told we had underpaid by £25 - but previously the waitress had said we had completely covered before I'd even paid my portion so the £25 I paid for my meal was essential the tip (way more than 10%). The hostile manager wouldn't let us leave and insisted we pay the missing money plus a tip. After we left we checked all our receipts (though most of us paid in cash), added them up and saw we had indeed been swindled. I am genuinely devastated because I have loved eating here until this point, but I won't be going back because of the way we were treated. If you are a solo diner or couple then please do visit because the food is absolutely out of this world, but if you are a large party please avoid the awful experience I was unfortunate to have at the hands of such a grumpy man completely devoid of human kindness (who really shouldn't be front of house).

Visited banana leaf today, the food was splendid. However the behavior of a particular staff Mr. Mariyappan was really unpleasant and bad, which really spoiled the total experience of the service.

I visited Banana Leaf hoping for a fresh take on South Asian cuisine, and that's exactly what I got. The spicing is excellent, deeper and hotter than Indian food, and enhancing the flavour in meat and vegetables. The mutton curry is particularly good, the sauce sizzles with heat and flavour and the meat is beautifully tender. Side dishes balance the mains very well and kothu is an excellent accompaniment. Portions are generous, service is attentive and value for money is very good. I will certainly come back soon. Thank you for a very enjoyable experience.

Good friendly staff, excellent service, lovely tasty food

Another great meal. The restaurant looks extremely modest from the road. However once inside, you are made to feel really welcome by the friendly helpful staff. There was a lovely atmosphere. The menu was great I had Dosai as a starter followed by a really tasty mutton korma with spicy rice and a lovely warm dessert. They had a good drinks menu, I enjoyed their cider. The meal cost including tip was less than £40 each, great value. Definitely worth another visit for my next trip to Swansea

We visited Banana Leaf last night, as we were staying in the area. What a wonderful restaurant it is. The service was friendly and attentive, the food was sublime and it was also really good value for money. I would highly recommend a visit to Banana Leaf if you’re in the area.

We came here once by accident and a second time on purpose. Creamy South Indian curries, crispy dosas and a wealth of appetizers offer something quite different from North Indian cuisine. The friendly staff round off the experience - this place is a cut above.
