Quite simply this place is terrible And used to be really good Chips fine good to exellent Fish large greasy batter minuscule amounts of fish . Hard and chewy at that .. So so dissapinting

Gone from being one of the best chippies in Minehead to one of the worst. Been twice in the last 6 weeks and both times food has tasted of burnt oil, chips have been warmed up. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Excellent! We found this place when we googled vegan food in Minehead. Was not expecting to see such a great little menu in a small chippy in Minehead!! We ordered 5 portions of the vegan 'fish' (banana blossom) all with chips....we were stuffed! And we have big appetites! The banana blossom fish was great, it doesn't taste exactly like cod but it resembles battered fish in a way I can't describe. You just have to try it! The batter was amazing and the chips were the best chips we've had in a very very long time! (years even!) 10/10 would recommend and would 100% visit again if we're ever back in Minehead.

I was recommended this fish and chip place by a local and was not disappointed! Picked up and eaten on the beach without any seagulls stealing it so one happy family! The choices on the menu were great with plenty of option for vegans, vegetarians and kids. Battered veggie sausage, I have been on the hunt for this for years!

Awful food!! Just full of grease no flavour. Over priced, best part was the can of cola. Locals rave about this place, wouldn’t waste your money.

We decided to have fish and chips on the evening of the 23 rd April while visiting our chalet at Dunster. When I served up the supper back at the chalet I tried to cut into my fish it shot across the table there was very little fish in side and the batter was so hard I could not eat it . It cost £14 for two fish and one portion of chips which we ended up throwing away three quarters of it . I feel it had been warmed up from lunch time . A lovely young man served us so I was bitterly disappointed with the food we received. I will not be returning.

Apparently great plant based options offered on the menu. However I am glad I asked about how they are cooked. Not vegan or vegetarian. Had to leave without ordering.

Amazing fish and chip shop with huge variety, including lots of vegan options! Always such a treat to have vegan fish and chips by the seaside. I had the banana blossom fish and chips and husband had the cod burger and pulled pork dirty chips, all delicious and fresh! Portion sizes are great, staff were friendly and chatty, and we were even able to phone ahead and pick up our order. Will definitely be back when we're next in the area!

Had not been for while, this used to be best fish and chip head, prewsume now under new ownership- chips barely cooked and the batter not cooked at all, inside had the texture of wallpaper paste- very disappointed

Update 03/24 Came back here again on another family Butlins chips, happy to say another great visit, very happy after my "Dirty Chippy", still amazing portions, didn't really need to order for kids given all the chips we got on normal portions. Well worth the trip. Original Review 02/23 Went looking for a good local chippy on a family trip to Butlins, picked out Bampton Street Fish Bar after looking at the menu and their generally great reviews we weren't disappointed, great portion sizes, will be coming back later for the "Dirty Chippy" options from the menu.

Hidden away and where the locals go - the best fish n chips we've ever had, even cooked a couple of sausages for our dog- a well deserved 5star rating, the service great with everyone chatting away - can't recommend enough👌

Went in to buy a large sausage and chips and was served by a lovely lady who made sure my order was correct. The food was piping hot I have heard the old owner has left so was expecting the new owners food not to my taste but I was mistaken it was better . The chips where fresh and hot crispy with no residue of oil like before well done to the new owners will be back on Friday Update 9/1/24 Re visit so much better loving way the food is cooked myself and the wife had cod and chips and it was delicious. The food wasn’t oily like it had been in the past definitely feels like a positive change

Superb freshly cooked gluten free fish and chips...great value compared to some seaside chippies. Tucked away on a narrow street but there is some parking directly outside. Quick service and allergies no problem...light crisp gf batter was tremendous.

Oh dear i hate having to say something bad but our dinner was so disappointing.Our haddock was so small ,more like the size you would serve a child. The battered burger was so over cooked that it was brittle and the batter was just in flakes. The batter on the very small fish was very nice and the chips were ok.

Only bought chips but they were very tasty and well cooked. The service was good as well.

We went to the shop at 8.00pm, they close at 8.30pm supposedly, only to be told they had run out of everything!!..are they having a laugh!!...ive never heard anything so ridiculous, so don't rely on this chippie for your evening meal.

Lovely friendly staff, really random that the burger dressing comes in pots and not actually on the burger.... but other than that, really enjoyed our tea 😁

Probably best fish and chips in Minehead Freshly cooked ,polite service. Very clean premises. We have tried other fish and chip shops in Minehead but this one hard to beat.

Brought a large chips and they didn't look like they were cooked properly or even taste like chips and they weren't even hot and got some mushy peas they weren't even hot and they tasted like eggs and only thing had was curry sauce

Super fish and chips and competativly priced. Best we have had in a long time. Will not even think of going elsewhere in Minehead. Fast, friendly and Great food.

Easily the best takeaway in Minehead by a mile. Yes it is a bit more expensive, but it's worth every penny.

First time trying this chippy and I'll definitely be back! Spotted their board in Wellington sq, otherwise I wouldn't have known about them. But went there as my friend is vegan and they have lots of vegan options. Shop was clean and really friendly and professional. Tried the vegan fish and chips made from banana blossom and nori. It was delicious! Light crispy batter and the chips were crispy too. Not the usual pale soggy chips in other shops. Large portion. Really impressed. Def be back.

Visited on a Tuesday lunchtime, greeted by a very professional young man, who clearly knows good hospitality and really knows how to cook fish n chips. Had the best cod and chips ever, and I’ve eaten loads of the stuff. Curry sauce was cracking. They also use bagasse compostable hot food boxes. Bonus points for that. Go there soon, eat heartily and you will thank me. Great job, I mean really great job. Thanks.

Sorry to say Going down hill , I used them since they opened and defo has changed not for the good fish is different sizes every time you buy it and the last two times dry and over cooked , I will be going to alcombe from now on

Wide choice, good kids menu, helpful, friendly staff worked out at £10 a head. I'm not a fish and chips fan but everyone else said it was good, hot and tasty.

Great little chip shop. Nice chips and cod with a light batter that doesn't weigh heavily on your stomach. Gluten free options. Pleasant staff. And I drove down a road called 'Cher' to get there!

Chips were alright but the chicken burger was a right mess they didn't listen and put salad in when I asked them not too and the chicken were just a little strip and it was tough. Didn't enjoy it at all my mum felt the same with her fish it was hard as well so we only ate the chips. Worst fish and chips I've had and chicken burger.

The worst fish and chips I have ever had. My daughters chicken burger looked like it had been cooked hours before or even a day before. Chicken strips tough went in The bin. Expensive and rubbish. Compared to a rival chip shop in the town which gives you value for money and is also edible..Sorry Bampton you have let yourselves down.

Got to be the worst cod&chips I have had in the West Country ever. The chips were so dry must have been lunchtimes leftovers and the cod if it actually was was just lots of batter which had been fried to quickly so gooey on the inside. Was swimming in oil and if I was blindfolded would have thought it had been fried in a Chinese takeaway. Krispies of Exmouth would turn in their fish fryer at this total carnage.

I was visiting from London and i asked a local resident where to eat and he recommended this fish and chip shop. Friendly, clean and meticulous and equally importantly very good food in every way. God quality even down to the mushy peas and generous portions. Professional approach and a great menu selection... I and my family would definitely go back.

Warning : you can get addicted to their service and products. Their fish and chips are every time perfect, delicious, excellent. Friendly and Professional Staff. Efficiency and service is excellent. Always clean and tidy. Has become our favourite Fish and Chips shop. They cook the Fish and chips in a separate oil and meat sausages in other, so ideal place for vegans or vegetarians. Chips ain't soggy which is great, tastes just like proper Fish and Chips. Prices are affordable. Perfect Fish and Fish Shop.

Best fish and chips in ages. Asked for a small portion and it was spot on, often find it is too much. For those who care about keeping the oceans clean so that we continue to have fish, it was good to see no plastic in sight.

Me and my partner and children love Bampton street chip shop they do the nicest fish and chips in minehead . I was going to treat the kids the other night to some fish and chips but when we got there we found it closed for no reason so we had to use another local chip shop instead. I really hope this was a blip as we like this chip shop a lot

A wonderful chip shop in the sea side town of minehead Somerset the food is fantastic and service was brilliant . The business is so well run and the vegetarian range for a chip shop is brilliant

Fantastic food. Cooked to order. My only grumble was the the guy serving kept taking bits of batter out of serving cabinet and eating them then licking his fingers and not washing them.... that is disgusting especially with covid. Also the young lady with piercings ... these should be covered.

There used to be a fish and chip shop for many years, sadly it closed down some time ago, the new Brampton road fish shop is indeed welcome and indeed serves a wonde full fish and chips, we had our first night tradition while staying at one of the Dunster beach chalets and we always have fish and chips, liked the reviews and gave it a go, chips were so nice I could have eat more and the fish had no greece left as a residue, perfectly cooked and extremely tasty, thank you for a top quality seaside meal

Excellent fish and chips. We phoned ahead to order, the piping hot food was ready in 10 minutes. The shop is tucked away, but well worth seeking out.

Staff were awful, not friendly, no smiles, portions were very poor, but it was hot and not bad albeit a bit greasy.

Under new management, very tasty and very generously sized portions along with a nice amount of options on the menu. There's also Vegan options on the menu so there's something for everyone. Great to see some Fentimans in the fridge too rather then just the usual sugary drinks!

We were recommended Bampton fish & chip shop by a friend and can honestly say the best we have had for years. Every time we go to Minehead we time it so that we can get fish and chips and eat at Dunster beach on the way home - a real treat. Love the easy eco packaging and the special touch of fresh lemon.

I'm sorry to say no where near as good as it was under previous management asked for a wing of chicken but they didn't understand what I wanted and thought I wanted chicken strips. Chips where very soggy and greasy.

Love this place, I am gluten intolerant, and although they don't do a gluten free battered fish, the oven baked cod more than makes up for it, especially with the chorizo butter. Would highly recommend!!

Thought I'd try the re-opened Bampton St Fish & Chip Shop as it has been closed for years and has re-opened under new owners. Perfect fish and chips, and my wifes burger was spot on too. What I did like is the eco -friendly packaging, no plastic and all recyclable. Excellent food will be back for sure.

Considering the circustances and the hope of reopening. Bampton street fish bar is now open again. First thing first I had large cod and chips. The chips were perfect and the cod melts in ones mouth. The slice of lemon was the finishing touch ,along with a spotless shop and staff. See you soon guys.

This is a really good fish and chip shop. The large cod is "large", big enough for 2 smaller eaters to share. Only been not so good a couple of times, once the food was greasy, and the other, the batter was a bit too thick. I still stick with this shop when in the area.

Very greasy fish and chips that were very dark as if the oil needed changing. Had read good reviews so was looking forward to sampling this - very disappointed.

The fish and chips served were freshly cooked to order so had to wait but it was hot and excellent which is the best way to have food.

Fish and sausages were cooked to order and were very good. The chips however were old and let it down.
