Love going into bakes and cakes. Have been regular for a short while and now when I go in I don't even have to ask for my order, I just get a thumbs up, a nod and a smile and my order is spot on. It's little things like this that make it worth going. Also the friendly range of staff always seem happy to help even when under pressure. Also if I wasn't on a diet I would have the cheese and jalapeños slice every day. I have brought people in from lancaster who haven't stopped talking about the chocolate éclairs for weeks. Fantastic job guys. Ric

Used Bakes and Cakes for over 10 years now and never once had a bad sandwich. Freshest bread delivered daily and lovely staff who do a great job and more than reasonable prices. Ideal place for families on day trips to get their sandwiches, cakes and pasties for the beach. If I could give 6 stars I would 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

There is a Very arrogant man who I think owns it ,after a big order he were very rude and embarrassed me as I dint no were to que up ....every time I am in there he makes u feel unwelcome even tho use to spend alot.i won't be goin ther agen

Love this bakery I've been coming here for years. However the staff are horrible and the guy that owns it looks down at everyone everytime I go in. Don't like people with big orders and try rush u when your ordering! The man who owns it is awful very rude and disrespectful. One time he tried to say I stole a drink. I spend around £20-£30 a week there and I think they need to teach the staff and owner a few manners!!!

Ordered some tea cakes in this shop and was very dissappointed the amount of butter on them was pathetic! You have to put plenty of butter on tea cakes! The table needed cleaning which we did and the toilet was disgusting. Though there seemed to be plenty of staff there was none looking after the shop customer area. This should be a good business however staff training needs to be a must. Extremely dissappointed!

Absolutel ridiculous, I paid for 2 meat and potatoe pies , one was ready and other was still baking so she took my name and I said will they be ready in 5 min + she no , but I will one to one side for you, so after 10 min I went in asked a SO CALLED shop assistant who worked there she I don't know , so I well could you tell if upu have any meat and potatoe pies ready for sale and again she said I don't know so I ask her again sane answer again, so eventually this other assistant said they will out soon and I will give you one + find you so I sat outside yhe shop for 10 minutes then went back in and the assistant are the meat + pot pies ready she I don't to 3 times, so the assistant stood next to her said yes there ready then next assistant said I came out the shop and couldn't find me ( which is a bit grazy as i am sat out dide the shop entrance abkut 6 foot away on flowrr wall, so 3 diff answers!!!!. So leaving the shop I said ignorant, obnoxious staff mber it's very simple when a customer ask you have you any meat × pot pies for sale I stead of saying I dont know sipmlely go to counter and check, so she staying good bye . Bye, thick , ignorant she was about 44 and had posh / middel class voice so it's either a mid life crisis or she has entered the work world and doesn't like it,

Really solid option for lunch or breakfast. Sausage or bacon barms for breakfast with hash browns or mushrooms/onions are delicious. Burgers or pasta/bacon boxes are tasty and filling. All reasonably priced and a good selection of cakes too!

Absolutely love bakes & cakes. Been my go too favourite for years for a before work breakfast and brew.Always fresh hot tasty food, quality ingredients and reasonable prices. Love the thick cut buttered toast and the sausages are really yummy. The cappuccinos are just amazing. Seating available inside and out which is great. All the staff are lovely and friendly. Thanks to the bakes and cakes team who do an amazing job :)

The way I have been spoken to by a member of staff is terrible.. queued my turn and went to look at the hot counter to be told you can’t queue here.. there was one other lady in already being served and me so I’m not sure where I was supposed to stand .. will not be going back if that’s how little they think of their customers

Great place, excellent food super friendly staff. None stop supply of fantastic cream cakes 🍰😔 (5/2/24)Last Monday all loyal customers had a fantastic treat, as the shop was closed for a new floor we were treated to a free yes absolutely free sandwich of your choice, you just had to pre order it the Friday before. Now that is proper cash back, loyalty & down right northern hospitality. Thanks guys we all at the garden st. Construcción site really appreciate that kind of service.10/10.👍

I ordered a sandwich today, and while it was toasting I watched the lady who prepared it clean all work surfaces with a cloth and spray. She then kept shoving the cloth down her top and pulling it out again to keep cleaning. Then she dropped it on the floor, picked it up, wiped a knife with it , then shoved it back down her top. The whole time not washing her hands and then proceeded to get my sandwich out from under the grill, no gloves and then gave it to me. I complained to another member of staff , who stared at me, like I had landed from mars, then said, “ what??” Then ignored me!!! The lady who was doing the “cleaning and not washing her hands, had a brown ponytail, no hat, kept touching her face too. Needless to say I didn’t eat my sandwich and will never return. I’ll spread the word too

Shocking customer service. After being spoken to like a child as i had my dog with me - ( I genuinely had no clue they couldnt go in). I had my 4 month old baby with me, I clearly was just trying to some quick lunch and being told to stand at the front door and wait infront of a que of people. I should of been told before taking my order regarding rules in a kinder manner and I would of always complied and gone somewhere else. Disgusting attitude on staff - I will never return.

AVOID - Awful customer service. We waited in line behind two other customers, as our turn came we walked towards the back to see if they had any pies left. Patiently waited for a couple of minutes to ask if there were any steak left as the selection was scattered, only to be rudely told we aren’t getting served as we didn’t wait in line (we did until it was our turn). I did mention this and that we just wanted to see if any steak pies were left and the lady bluntly said what you see is all we have and walked off - I didn’t bother to explain that they’re scattered ! I wouldn’t have dreamt of speaking to a customer like that when I worked in the industry! I used to come here regularly as a teen and didn’t go back after a barm was mouldy, I won’t be going back.

Would be ok of the staff wore gloves when making sandwiches. I saw one girl thay did, the others didn't care and due to that, I wouldn't recommend. Go to Pickles 50 yards away, the staff there are much nicer and actually care about hygiene. Also one woman in there was a total angry freak! Swearing and shouting for no reason. Proper weirdo. I put my sandwich in the bin. Didn't even take a bite.

Go here quite regularly.. had the most Amazing bacon, runny egg and mushroom muffin yesterday.. perfect! Also go weekly for an Assortment of Meat, Steak pies and pasties to take to Manchester every Saturday.. Excellent staff also Mark is so friendly and says " the usual shipment of pies " lol 😆

Visited St Anne's and came across cakes and bakes,had ordered and we because of our accents were taken of Australian,which gave my wife and my self a laugh,but to the point,it was excellent service and food,piping hot and very good food,cakes and bakes is a credit to St Anne's,the old saying is true,watch where the locals eat/shop and you can't go wrong,well done

What can I say it’s the place to visit for lunch coffee etc, 100% must try they even provide outside seating & it’s a sun-trap, the owner is lovely.

The meat and potatoes pies are are 1 out of 10, there's hardly any meat and what meat there is its pink , taste is virtually ZERO, the potatoes are like a SLUSH all wet and pastries is crisp and fairly rock hard , A Hollands meat and potatoe pie oven backed is 10 times better, if I go again I will take a video /pick of the pie, its a pity as some of the food they sell is very good

I do hope the current Chancellor of the exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng reads TripAdvisor. Also the current head of HMRC. They’re both crippling a small business over brown sauce! I visited St Annes today as I do at least twice a month. After a walk on the beach and a quick coffee we had a walk round the town. I was a little bit peckish so after deciding not to use one of the big firms like subway. ( we like to support small independent shops). I dropped into bakes and cakes. I should’ve known something was wrong the second I ordered a ham salad Bap. After ordering there was some discussion with the staff if I could have a Bap or not. After a member of staff looked in the bacon tray it was decided alas I could not. I was offered a large sub roll. Disappointed not to have one of the many Baps I could see over the counter I opted for pie peas and gravy. I was handed the box and had to ask for a fork (I struggle to eat gravy with my fingers).As the server returned with my fork, in front of me about 4 inches away was a large bottle of brown sauce. I asked could I have some brown sauce on my pie peas and gravy. The young server looked perplexed at this request, he turned to his left to what I can only presume it was a senior member of staff and asked could I have some brown sauce. Well to say that young server look perplexed, The most senior member of staff looked like I’d asked to take a dump in the doughnut display. “No we can’t put on any brown sauce “was the reply. I thought they were unable to put it on because it was my food so I asked can I put a squirt on? “No!” Was the quite blunt reply. I asked why not as the brown sauce was in 4 inches of my hand… “ tax purposes!” Was the reply 😳 Myself and 2 other customers all said at the same time “tax purposes?” Yes… what is the senior staff members reply. I left dumbstruck. I am genuinely writing a letter to the chancellor of the exchequer and to the head of the HMRC. Hoping this will support you going forward. if you can please answer a few questions that I can put to them.I promise you I will put the replies on here. Small businesses using portions of brown sauce maybe be paying too much tax. And if we can sort the brown sauce out will get onto other condiments and change the world. They’ve spent far too much time chasing Bernie Ecclestone and Jimmy Carr. Could you please let me know how much tax you pay on a squirt of brown sauce on a portion of pie peas and gravy? Is it more expensive than the tax on a dash of salt for instance? How do you consider the tax of brown sauce on a bacon and egg butty, is it more expensive tax than a squirt of tomato ketchup on a sausage and bacon butty? Do you tax the customer if they ask for sugar after you’ve poured the coffee? Cheers👍 Ps, joking aside… rude customer service has cost you not a frequent customer but a regular one. This is the best take out Cafe in St Anne’s, they even provide a seated outside area , Great Coffee , Great food , Great service, lovely Staff , I would 100% recommend all to try , I’ve a returning customer & always enjoyed my visit, once again 100% can’t fault this place , truly a great place to sit & enjoy a time out & great food & drinks & cakes , five star establishment, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ , as you can see in my photos my dog always smiles when I mention Bakes And Cakes

Called in this morning and purchased 6 Greenhalges potato cakes, I was surprised at the price of£4.20 when I questioned this and said I'd never paid anything like that before I was told "Well that's the price" but I rather foolishly paid it any way. Imagine my shock when I went in Pickles farm shop less than 50 yards away and found exactly the same product for £2. I went back to Cakes and Bakes and questioned the price again only to be confronted by a very rude lady who I think was the manageress. This shop is way overpriced and unhelpful. Shop around.

The worst Rocky Road cake I’ve ever had. Tastes of very little, cheap chocolate cheap biscuit, and a few small marshmallows on top. Nothing chewy included in the recipe or tasty, very very bland.

This is a lovely bakers with lovely food it is very reasonable in price. The staff are very efficient and friendly except for the owner who is quite grumpy and rude. Thought he was taking after his wife who was grumpy but she has improved. I know the public are very annoying but you are there to serve them I worked in a place serving the public and felt like being rude sometime but we were sacked if we were rude. If you don't like what you are doing it's time to get out

I have been a regular customer for the past few years. Today, I had the misfortune of having the “Dragon Tea Lady” as another member of Trip Adviser described her or perhaps the shop has another? I was stood in line, ordered hot pies and whilst I was looking what cakes to purchase this particular lady started bawling at me to come over to the pie counter. I didn’t hear her at first as I am hard of hearing and there was a lot of background noise. After placing a new order, large pies rather than medium what I originally asked for, I went back to where I was stood to continue to choose cakes expecting Dragon Tea Lady to come round to the main counter. I was, again, bawled at “Can you come over here”. So, back to the pie counter and mentioned I was viewing the cakes. She was not at all pleasant. I couldn’t get out of the shop fast enough. Please could the management train their staff to be polite. I would imagine this lady is detrimental to the business.

However the middle aged woman who does the tea and coffee is quite grumpy and never smiles She is sometimes quite rude. It's a shame that one person spoils the whole shop and could stop people coming in

Food is of a good quality in relation to the price. The middle aged, dark haired male member of staff was borderline rude and couldn't wait to complete the sale. Worth going for the produce. But don't expect a stellar customer service experience.

Best sausage roll ever fresh and so damn good

Oh my goodness, I bought a bakewell slice from this bakery and it was absolutely delicious. I have been googling recipes all weekend thinking about trying to recreate it as I don’t live in st Annes! You must try the cakes here!!

Always reliable there has only been a few times where they haven't has something in stock and that is mainly to do with supplier issues so it isn't really there fault apart from the staff are lovely and know what they are doing plus it's never too crowded so the wait times are never too bad.

Went in for tea and a cake, 2 teas 1cake between us, asked for it to be cut in two, said can,t do that, so asked for a knife, haven,t got a knife!

A smashing little bakery. Always busy. The prices are so cheap. A small area to sit and also a toilet at the rear of the cafe, this could have done with a once over, the floor was dirty and no toilet roll. Two cups of tea for £2.40 . The cakes are beautiful. They also sell hot roast meat sandwiches, hot soup, toasted teacake and a selection of pies, pasties and sausage rolls.

Great selection of cakes etc shame about the total lack of knowledge about allergens … asked about gluten free products due to having a celiac in party and told salad box and that couldn’t have bacon due to having fat on it … despite having signage staying ask about allergies he seemed to have no knowledge of which they are by law meant to know and have available .. In response to your resonse it was not a male i was talking to, and yes the young girl who was serving me looked to another college which is more than acceptable. it was the more senior staff member that was rude and unhelpful, i asked about breakfast items and was told bacon had fat on it so couldnt have that... this is true and i asked for advice as per your alegen signs, i was rudly told slad boxes which was not the information i was asking for .. the female staff member who was not new was rude and extreamly unhelpful .. an appolgy would have been better than saying i was lying in my review which i was not and have witness to the event ...

This place serves strong coffee, I really don't like the weak stuff Costa sell. The cakes on offer here are very good and it seems to be very busy whenever we visit. It has outside seating if the weather is fine. Haven't tries the pies...

Had to queue for quite a long time but glad we did , the food was very reasonable and very good. Especially recommend the coffee renoirs and the apple slices. All together came to less than £20 for 4 of us which was good value...

Was a regular visitor but service was rude and the toilets are closed. I thought toilets should be provided if you sit down inside or out I presume it’s your seats. Shame we was a regular customer but now go just round the corner to a more friendly one.

Visited this establishment summer 2021 with my family. Unfortunately one of the items- a pasty had a hair inside said pasty. This was of course thrown away- and I’m led to believe a supplier issue not the Hygiene standards of Bakes and Cakes. I left...

What you describe is a totally different incident involving another customer(s). My wife's order was simply coffee with cold milk which you got wrong and snapped at her. No other customer was involved. A shame you didn't just politely admit your error.

798920421 Last Friday, 16th July 2021, my wife was on the receiving end of unwarranted aggressive rudeness from the manager/owner. He made a mistake over a simple coffee order and realised it. Instead of apologising politely, he wanted to shift the blame on to her. This is not a good example to the rest of his staff. Needless to say, we and our friends won't be using this service again.

Great food, great seating area to watch the world go by, great value and friendly helpful staff, the owner always goes the extra mile my 1 year old nephew wanted marmalade on his toast but they had run out so the owner went straight out to buy some for him. We often have a snack and drink here as we find the prices are very reasonable. The coffee and Eccles cakes we bought today were very enjoyable.

I paid my usual visit to purchase my pie and peas which I must add are excellent and the staff are really nice, the manager is very strict with following the guidelines but he's very polite with it and cannot be faulted

Bakes and cakes have a nice variety of pies and rolls. All are baked in store. And always delicious. They have also vegan and vegetarian options.

Used to be the best Manchester tarts around. Had one today and it was awful. Jam tasted horrible and it run out all over me. Need to get them back to how they were.

Wonderful, staff wonderfully helpful the covid rules were followed to a T....cracking butty & brew...I will be back.
