Baan Thai in East Staffordshire

My go to spot in Burton/Derby. I always take friends here. Lovely vibe, very authentic. Don't know how people can dislike this place in other reviews! 5-Star easy.

Went as a family for my mums birthday. Had the set menu E for 4. The starters were ok, small amount. The red curry sea bass was good and flavoursome, noodles felt stodgy and lacked flavour. We sent back the pork as it was dry and very chewy. They then brought it back to the table to say that’s how it’s meant to be cooked. Overall ok, certainly wouldn’t go back. Daughter mentioned it was her nanas birthday but didn’t do anything. Which is a surprise. Gets a 3 star food hygiene which I’m not surprised due to how dirty the bathroom area is and kitchen door left open all the time.

Went with mates and we ordered some of the various set meals which to be fair were tasty especially the prawn dish, I found the amount of food for over £50 per 2 people was a bit lacking and could of done with at least one more main per 2 people

Good food, delightful staff. Table Cloth dirty. Instant coffee with lunch menu was disgusting. Tasteless and too weak. Only half a tsp of instant. Spoiled the meal for me.

Visited many times in the past, very disappointing this time, ordered spare ribs, 3 tiny bones with next to no meat. Main meals the beef in one was so chewy couldn’t eat it,the chicken dish was ok but had better,mentioned it about the beef when they came to clear the plates but no response. Won’t be going back, shame as used to be a great place.

Not only best Thai in Burton, not only best Asian restaurant, in my view on food alone this has to be the best restaurant in Burton. I've eaten Thai food around the world, including Thailand and Baan Thai let me tell you is right up there.

Our first visit to Baan Thai last night and we were blown away by the delicious food and great service.

As always - amazing food, service was fantastic and value for money second to none! I don’t consider myself a Thai fan but our party of 6 chose this place and I am glad! Been before and will definitely go again!

Always brilliant. The lunch menu is so cheap and the food is incredible. 2 courses and a tea or a coffee for £9.95 each or 1 course for £5.95. Unbelievable value, always fantastic service and the food is beautiful

First time visited here. Authentic tasty food (I had the fish, number 103). Lovely attentive staff. Good value for money. Nice decor too. Can't fault it and would highly recommend. Wish I was in Burton more so I could go back.

Back again this evening at the Baan Thai abdy it did not disappoint. Prompt and friendly service, very good wine reasonably priced and good Thai food. Nice interior decor and a good buzzy atmosphere. Give this place a go - the vest Asian restaurant in Burton.

Having read all the good reviews, we booked early for a 7:30pm meal. Night started great at the Micro Bar a few doors down. Got to restaurant around 7:15pm and were promptly seated. The place was full and we commented on the fact it was good that we booked.The menus arrived quickly and the drink orders placed whilst we selected our food. Drinks took a little while to come, but we figured the place is really busy so no big deal. Ordered food (which was all set menu). Starters arrived after about 30-40 minutes, we thought that was a long time but figured it is busy. After starters another long wait, About 40 minutes later, I asked what was happening and when will the food come and was told sorry, it will be here very soon. Another 10 minutes and the couple on the table next to us paid for their drinks and starters and left, they had been there longer than us. Other couples then started venting around us, so it was not just us. I then went up and asked again and was told it is coming now.Another 10 minutes and still nothing, so I went up to ask again and was told another 10 minutes at that point i said I was not paying for drinks or starters and was leaving, I was just told OK. I never got any sorry nor at any time during the night did someone come to us and say sorry we are having issues. I had to ask each time. As it was now past 9:30 options to eat elsewhere were now very limited with pubs stopping at 9pm and restaurants full, so ended up with fast food, which is not our thing.Never coming back here again. I can understand things go wrong, but a simple explanation of that would have been good. We could have at least made an earlier choice to leave and find somewhere else. The lack of communication was appalling and ruined a night out we were looking forward to.

Really love this place. Normally come early evening when not busy. Good choice of dishes and food always delicious and reasonably priced.

Always fantastic food. Visited with friends and we ordered a mixed starter/platter and then a set meal. There is always more food than we can eat and it is always top notch quality. Service is always friendly.

Mid week in Burton and you want decent food and great service then this is right up your avenue.Did we order too much food? .... yes we did, and that was the most disappointing part of the evening, not being able to eat all those great tasting meals put before us. The food was really good, the service impeccable and well priced. We will go back.

This really is a top-class Thai restaurant with typical decor one would expect in this type of establishment. The food was superb and would certainly recommend the sharing mixed Baan Thai starter and Thai green chicken curry. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Only a couple of minor criticisms would be that the tables are a little small to seat four people if you each separate dishes and the service was not the quickest. Having said that we wouldn’t have any hesitation in going back as the meals were reasonably priced and excellent.

Beautifully served by excellent staff, the food was amazing. The decor in the restaurant is very authentic, I would definitely go back again.

Stopped in here on a recommendation and it was well worth it. Friendly and welcoming with a good menu selection. I had the tom yum soup followed by beef mussman curry. The soup is probably one of the best versions I've had; hot and sour but full of fragrance and the curry was perfectly cooked with fall apart beef and a rich sauce.Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Went to the Baan Thai restaurant in Burton on Trent on speck and boy was I not disappointed. The Restaurant is well presented with authentic Thai decor. Soon as I arrived I just knew that this Restaurant is quality. Greeted by polite and attentive staff who give the impression that the restaurant is a family run business. The food is absolutely deliciously but be warned it is difficult to choose a meal as their menu is very comprehensive. Whatever, I went with my choice and was not disappointed. If you are visiting the Burton on Trent area this restaurant isa must. You will be hooked on Thai food for ever.

We love this place, We have been on many occasions and always received a warm welcome and lovely fresh cooked Thai food. I fully recommend this place. The massaman curry is especially good :)

I’ve visited this restaurant a number of times and never had a bad meal. Service can sometimes be on the slow side but I don’t mind that when I’m getting quality food. Overall can’t fault them!!

The food here is exceptional, we have the Tom yum soup, beef massaman and the crispy sea bass with mango dressing and it’s amazing. Its presentation and setting is very authentic and the food is the best food out of Thailand. I would highly recommend and will definitely keep coming back.

Visited this place for the first time yesterday and it was a great first experience. Prompt and attentive service and lovely atmosphere. I had the ribs and a beef Massamam and both were very good. My friend had a prawn starter that was a little dry and over cooked - his main was good. Reasonable value and a place we would revisit.

I am reviewing the lunchtime experience and the two course lunch deal. The presentation and quality of the Thai food they offer far exceeds other, more expensive, Thai establishments I have visited. In fact this is my number one.

On our weekly date night with my husband as a change we decided to visit Baan Thai, and what a let down it was! First table shown to had a screeching child next door and second table we were knocked every time someone left! Table decorations needed a good wash and were very grubby! Food was only ok, my husband and I like our food and were sorely disappointed! The restaurant and toilets are in need of an update! Wouldn’t bother with a return visit

What a find on a cold wet winters Saturday night in November. Four were wined and dined in perfect comfort. Our hosts knew a thing or two about loud boom boom music, there was none. Baan Thai is one of a disappearing number that caters to conversationalists. Service superb. It seems an advance booking is generally a good idea. We were fortunate purely because of the inclement weather.

I have been here twice now - We had the mixed starter to begin and then had pork and chicken dishes with rice for mains. The service was a bit slow this time as they took time to bring our drinks , but this doesn't take away from the atmosphere . We had two cobras and a starter and a main dish . The bill came to £42.70 . Absolutely love this place highly recommended.

Popped in here for a birthday treat, had 2 course lunch and coffee and it was superb. There was a great choice and it was so nicely presented and really tasty. I am definitely visiting again soon!

We ate here on Saturday night. It was a bit of a last minute decision to go out and they managed to squeeze us in despite being busy. I recommend you book if you want a table on a Saturday night! We have had take away from here a few times and have been really impressed so we had high hopes for eating in, we were not disappointed! The food was really delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. The staff were friendly and helpful. The service was quick and efficient but we were not rushed. The decor is typical of Thai style with wooden carvings and plants and water, all beautiful and very relaxing. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and will visit again!

We've found ourselves ordering Thai for lunch most weeks due to the incredibly great value and tasty food. Would highly recommend to eat in or take away at lunch time.

Went to try Thai food in this restaurant for my brother’s birthday. We had a really lovely and nice time there since it was so peaceful and the decoration were so nice as well. If you would like nice & quiet vibe for a dinner , this is the place to go. Also the food and service were fantastic.

Visted here on Saturday night with my partner. We were seated and served promptly . We had the mixed starter which was lovely and pork main and fish salad. I was disappointed that is was cold but I think that was my mistake I should have checked . The noodles and rice were very good and the quality of food and service was great . We will definitely be coming back . The bill came to £53 for a beer and coke, starter two mains and rice and noodles . If your in the area a string recommendation .

I booked this restaurant in June but it was a late booking so when we had to wait a while for our food, I wasn't too annoyed as when the food finally arrived it was lovely. I thought I'd give it another chance. Booked well in advance & an 8pm table for 4 people. We literally didn't leave the restaurant until well after 11pm as although our starters were delivered fairly early, we waited nearly 2 hours for our main course. I think most of us were past the point of being hungry when it finally arrived. I managed to negotiate our last round of drinks off the bill but seriously, neither my family nor I will ever entertain eating here again. Food is nice but not worth the wait.

I am not a world traveller, but this is simply the best Thai experience I have had. I entered at 18:45 - only one in but it filled up quickly. Nice decor, pleasant surroundings and attentive staff.

I always feel valued as a customer when we visit. The staff are always very obliging, through experience we had learnt to call mid week rather that a weekend due to the cosiness of the restaurant.

Had a need for food, didn't really know where to go.

Our first visit to this restaurant after recommendation from friends - and well worth it too! Booked in advance given it was a Friday night and it was already busy by the time we arrived. A couple came in later with no reservation so they had to settle for a take away as there were no tables available. We had a table by the window and whilst noisy due to a large party this didn’t detract from our delicious meal.

We have eaten Thai food in Many places but Baan Thai in Burton on Trent is the most outstanding food and we keep going back and will for many years to come. well done guys.

We visit Burton upon Trent once a year and always make sure we book a table at the Baan Thai. We have never been disappointed in all the years we have been coming here. We only wish we lived nearer.

Baan Thai has been in Burton for many years and is family run. The little small restaurant provides a nice authentic experience and serves great food. Worth a visit any time of the week and suitable for all occasions.

Never been here before but recommended by my daughter and boyfriend who came with us and we were not disappointed excellent service and food was fantastic we will be returning

Monday night is not the busiest, and we had plenty of tables to choose from. However the welcome was warm and staff very attentive. We shared the mixed starter which was fresh and served with a delighful salad. The steamed fish main course is a signature dish and brilliant lime and chilli flavours. My egg noodles with chicken also worked well. Wine is acceptably priced

The place was very busy which may have accounted for the slow service. Between us we sampled a variety of the starters and main courses accompanied by white wine and beer. They were all well-presented and delicious. The staff were very courteous. There was a very wide choice of dishes and we shall certainly visit again soon - but probably not on a Saturday.

My birthday falls on Valentine’s Day, a great day for a birthday but not when your husband forgets to book a restaurant to celebrate. I wanted Thai food and Baan Thai saved the day by managing for fit us and my parents in on a particularly busy evening. I am so glad they did!

They are busy so a lot of people must like it here. The staff are nice but the food was disappointing, mixed starter was ok but the hot and spicy prawn dish was cold. The massaman beef curry was nice but the chicken dish was served on a cold plate so it too was cold, sticky rice ok and spicy chicken noodles were pretty good, a bit hit and miss. Shame

Went to this restaurant with a group of friends last night, it was nearly empty and I could see why, the food was very ordinary for Thai, not a patch on the other main Thai restaurant in Burton, namely "Favourite Thai " . There was no atmosphere, and felt that they could not really be bothered . We had 2 set meals for 5 persons each, but the food was sparse......we had to ask where the other dishes were we ordered and in due course they came but only when we were nearly all finished. At £30 per head with drinks this was not good value at all. I know now why I have not been there for a long time, and will not be back.

I visit often as a couple and with friends, always have great service, very friendly owners that want to please. Chicken is amazing "satay Gai" is so succulent every time, even in takeaway, I honestly don't know how they do it! Sometimes can be a short wait during busy periods but never too bad that it would put you off. They also offer an "express lunch" that is fantastic value for money and you don't even get much smaller portion size. Overall one of mine and my boyfriends favourite restaurants in Burton, whether it is eat in or takeaway you get great quality regardless!Would recommend to anyone who is interested in quality food for a decent price!!

This is a lovely Thai restaurant. It was recommended by a work colleague when u asked for somewhere nice to go with my family. Parking is directly opposite, £1 for 2 hours. The decor is really nice, authentic Thai pictures, small wooden temple in the centre. You are welcomed with a warm smile and hello (in Thai). The food appears to be in small portions, but you soon realise that your eyes are bigger than your stomach! Very tasty and affordable. You are not rushed at all. It does start to fill up quickly, booking is advisable. The only point I would make is that it could do with a dusting to the walls in in the small spaces.
