This is outstanding cafe highly recommend this place if you are in sedgefield coffee great cakes to die for try it.staff are nice friendly with a warm welcome

My wife and I called in here for breakfast after the Wynyard Parkrun (that I would also strongly recommend). After the friendly welcome the first thing I noticed was the prices. We paid £12.50 for a regular cooked breakfast the previous week and I think this was £7.95 and was better in terms of quantity and quality. Throw in great service, ambience and location and you can't go wrong. Super-friendly and great all round.

We went to the horse racing at Sedgefield last night so was looking for somewhere for breakfast nearby. This cafe was amazing! The staff were so friendly, the prices really affordable and the food was great. We had a full english each and was stuffed. My only regret was that I was full and then I saw the apple pie, it had the thickest filling I had ever seen, so absolutely need to come back and tackle that!

What a lovely place to discover on a cold and windy morning. Ahead of a days walking, we stopped in the lovely village of Sedgefield and discovered a real gem of a cafe. Coming in off the street and with several bookings already in place, the ladies accommodated us for a full breakfast. And it was superb. All freshly cooked to order and a pot of tea that we found hard to empty!! Obviously a lot of good things going on here as every table became occupied and bookings were in place. Will certainly return here in the not too distant future; maybe a raceday!!

Absolute gem of a find for an impromptu coffee stop and the lovely staff were able to accommodate us during their lunch time rush; this place looks so popular that I would advise booking in advance! Will definitely try the food next time 😀 #supportlocalbusiness

Breakfast very poor, hard egg, under cooked hash brown, stale sausages tasting of perfume - horrible. One server plus the owner who was cleaning, making coffee, taking payment and a cook .Minimal menu selection, very basic. Although I want to support them I cannot accept food like that. Sad to see this little place like this and why no lunches?

Very clean pleasant little place and nice staff. Very limited selection of food and now becoming expensive but isn't everywhere. Food is alright but ordinary and no proper meals on offer at lunch time. Nice for a quick coffee when shopping.

What a great find, lovely friendly welcome, fast service, cosy and warm. We enjoyed paninis and a hot sandwich with a huge pot of tea. We sat chatting and weren't rushed. Lovely service, definitely be back. Thank you😊

Called in for breakfast yesterday whilst staying at the Travelodge nearby. My husband and I both had the full English. Beautifully cooked and presented - very generous portions. Good quality ingredients. Lovely white crockery and a teapot and cups and saucers! Staff friendly without being obtrusive. Very reasonably priced too . Would definitely recommend and revisit.

My friend visited for the first time last week and was super impressed. So much so that we both went on Saturday......whilst just enjoying a lite bite of tea, coffee, scone and cake....which were delicious......we feel our next visit must include something from their great menu. The place is exceptionally clean and social distanced and the staff more than welcoming and pleasant. This is a great find in Sedgefield and most definitely worth a visit!

I have visited the café a couple of times since they reopened to meet up with friends..Staff always helpful and friendly. Great choice from the menu, specials and a selection of homemade scones , cakes and treats. Great coffee , milkshakes and ice cream too spoilt for choice !Highly recommend Aubergine Café.

Arrived at approx 2pm on Saturday. Only two pieces of cake to choose from in cabinet. So disappointed as you would expect a good choice on a Saturday. Staff we pleasant.

Oh how I have missed my eggs royale. Excellent food, excellent value and excellent hardworking staff.

Been here a couple of times when In Sedgefield. Great value for a quick lunch time snack, or basic hot meal like sausage and chips or omelette. Staff are super friendly. Will be back again I’m sure.

Visited this cafe again today, had one of their speciality scones cheese/bacon/onion which was absolutely delicious.Any one after a lovely clean, bright and friendly cafe should give this little gem a try. I would highly recommend and just to add the scones are made fresh every morning not like other local establishments that I have visited in the past.

We utilised this cafe for a baby shower of 18 people. We opted for afternoon tea, which included unlimited non-alcoholic drinks. The food was absolutely delicious, so much choice, from sandwiches to cakes, to scones, sausage rolls and more. Excellent value for money! Jill was extremely helpful and friendly throughout, as I now live in Liverpool and organised the shower from there, she was there to offer any help and answer all of my queries when I rang. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff to ensure everyone had a really enjoyable experience. Jill and staff then boxed up the food that had not been eaten so we could take home. Really excellent service, so glad we came here for the day. Would more than happily go back if ever in Sedgefield. Thank you so much again x

Lovely cafe in the centre of Sedgefield. It does get busy. Food on the two occasions we have been for lunch has been lovely. Staff very helpful.

Menu being updated - I had quiche husband had oriental sandwich although he could not identify any coronation chicken it. I had the chocolate gateau which was beautiful.

Lots of variety on menu, food was lovely. Children's plate was just the right size. Staff very friendly and quick service. Didn't try cakes but they looked delicious. Save them for when we return.

Great cafe and food and ran by a lovely lady and her staff. Plenty of cafes in the local area but this is the best in my opinion.

First visit and first impressions were great. Clean, tidy cafe and efficient staff who all made us feel very welcome. Seems to attract people to sit in as well as those buying food to take away.I was particularly surprised that we were looked after by 4 different staff members; order taken, then served with drinks then food and then being asked if we were ok and would we like more drinks. Good to be treated like that.

Visited on the spur of the moment for a coffee .. we decided to have a snack.. I chose the soup of the day .. vegetable.. It was delicious... could have eaten another bowl .. my wife chose a sandwich which was also enjoyed.. together with coffee .. a simple snack but nevertheless very enjoyable

Great food, excellent value and friendly, efficient service. No cramped tables, no long waits and happy staff make for a lovely lunchtime pitstop that really gives other cafés in the village a run for their money!

My little girl and I popped in as a last minute visit. The table she wanted in the window was reserved but as the people who wanted it weren't due for nearly 2 hours we were able to get settled in. She wanted a muffin that had caught her eye at the counter and milk and I had a millionaires shortbread and hot chocolate. I barely got a mouthful before she decided she wanted mine, it was nice and the muffin tasted fresh. The drinks were nice and the staff made an effort to engage with her and on our way out she was given a chocolate which of course made her day. The menu is a nice mix between plenty of choice and not overwhelming. We'd been before and tried to go again recently when unfortunately they were full, we won't give up and will be back soon.

My wife and I often visit here for a tasty lunch: choose from the specials board - eg. corned-beef pie with chips and peas (with lovely gravy)

Aubergines is a great cafe, serving fab food and drinks by friendly staff.

Visited Aubergine today with my two young children as we have done on many occasions before. We’re always made feel very welcome, the staff is professional, friendly and very accommodating. The food is lovely and service is fast. Will keep returning for enjoyable food and treat experience.

Having stayed in the local Travelodge we were looking for a decent breakfast cafe nearby before setting off on a long journey. Aubergine came up on Tripadvisor and the reviews were good so off we went.

Very friendly and welcoming. Cant fault the attentiveness of the staff. The food is reasonably priced. I had an omlette with mozarella, spinach and baby tomatoes which was very tasty as was my partners corned beef pie. The individual Xmas pud which he had was better than the M&S; one we tried - very fruity/nutty. Filter coffee comes with free refils!

The claim that the food is all fresh and baked by the staff is open to question. The menu never changes, it’s either pie with frozen chips and veg from a tin or quiche. Some cake is home made but some bought in. It is good value for money, the welcome is good but please please change the menus and bin the frozen chips and veg.

We visited at Lunchtime and ordered corned beef pie and hot beef sandwich both with chunky chips. Food was lovely, the pie was definitely homemade as advertised. The service was first rate, very friendly and welcoming.

What a delightful cafe. The coffee is excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. Friendly helpful service and a really good menu with lots of choice from big meals to snacks and cakes. My friend had "one of the best scones ever". Keep up the good work - we'll be back!

Visited for afternoon tea for 4. Lovely variety of food on our platter including sandwiches, cheese scone and quiche. Sweet treats included a fruit scone, fruit tart, trifle and bake well tart. Absolutely delicious! Service was very attentive, every 3-4 minutes one of the waitresses came over (good to get your tea topped up but we wanted to relax and enjoy!) Thanks for having us

We are regular visitors her and often take our friends. All food is homemade on the premises. Had several types of food and can recommend everything. Breakfasts, lunches, home made pies , scones and cakes, one free re fill with filter coffee. Very pleasant staff. Also sells food to takeaway, eggs and preserves. Reasonable prices. Closed on Mondays which is baking day. Very popular cafe.

Went in with 5 colleagues for coffee and cakes after a meeting we all agreed the coffee was excellent and those that had the cakes said they were beautiful and to top it off we had great service thank you ladies

Visited regularly since opened and never tasted nicer food ! All food is served with a smile and the manners from staff is excellent ! The Saturday girls are very welcoming and always smiling, this adds to the very highly rated cafe. I will definitely be returning and recommend to all.

Just a little note to say that the Mariner’s Club sandwich I had today was as good as any sandwich I’ve ever had. The good people here even catered for my dining partner’s more unusual baked potato filling. Lovely food-lovely ladies.

We visited this cafe on 25th Aug, we were greeted by friendly staff who made us feel welcome and the cafe had a lovely atmosphere. We ordered our food which arrived quickly and tasted great, the corned beef pie, chips, peas and gravy was one of the meals we had and was home made and delicious! I would especially recommend this venue to anyone with young children as the staff were lovely with the kids & also the kids menu is great at just £4.95 for a meal, ice cream, lolly pop & a drink of squash. We would definitely visit again if in the area.

Live locally but haven't been here for ages so called in one rainy Saturday afternoon for a spot of lunch. Great menu selection & daily specials too & a children's meal deal. I opted for all day breakfast, hubby got corned beef pie (today's special) & kids got pizza & sausages. Whole individual pizza arrived, very generous portion sizes for the kids. The kids sausage meal was only half eaten but only because 4yr old devoured most of dad's corned beef pie instead! Breakfast was lovely, pie got (2) thumbs up as well! Food, drinks, followed by 3 cakes from the dessert counter the full bill was less than £33 which I thought was great value. Really lovely staff too, made an effort to talk to the kids which always goes down well. Definitely will be back.

busy day in Sedgefield and this was the only cafe with space to eat. Ordered a simple meal for the kids, when the young staff asked the woman/owner she was rude and dismissive ,no alternatives so went to the chip shop instead. I doubt this woman has any experience and is capable of running a decent cafe. Would not go near this place again

Well done, Aubergine Cafe! It's excellent to see that they have taken the time and effort to prepare a gluten free menu. From gluten free crumpets, sandwiches or toasted gluten free bread with a selection of fillings and toppings, jacket potatoes to cheesecake it's now clear and simple to know what's on offer and the cost. Staff as ever are friendly and helpful and the cafe looks likely to remain a popular local eatery.

My friend and i visited Sedgefield last Thursday(6th July) and found this little cafe.We had a pot of tea between us and i had a small slice of strawberry cheesecake.Lovely but small.The service was good and the place was nice and clean.

Having visited several times, this is a very friendly popular cafe. The homemade soup is often excellent and worth trying but not always gluten free due to the stock used. Overall gluten free options are limited and staff vary in awareness. The cheesecake however is a nice option to go with a cup of coffee and gluten free bread or crumpets are sometimes available, alternatives include jacket potatoes or omelette if you fancy something more substantial.

Had a excellent lunch with friends, all home cooked food, very good service the staff are very polite and friendly, nothing is too much trouble.Very good choice of food, and the cakes and scones are fabulous.Can definitely recommend this cafe for a visit, you will not be disappointed.

I have been to all of the cafe's in sedgefield and Aubergines is the best bar non. The quality can be tasted fresh free range products homemade cakes pies quiches. The staff are great and friendly. My favourite is the scones. made fresh that morning from scratch.not just a pre mixture like the others. Would highly recommend it to everyone and can't wait to go back

Wow what a cafe,the best in sedgefield by a mile.The breakfast was first class and the cakes and fresh coffee was divine.We visited the rivals the day before and this knocks spots off them.I really can't wait til the next time we are in the area to call again.The 2 girls were so friendly and nothing was to much this really was divine

I came here for a mid morning snack of hot chocolate and a scone. Although he experience was very good I am a bit of a Connoisseur when it comes to scones around the country and these were not up to the standard of a certain competitor a few doors down. The atmosphere was not as cosy but the staff were very friendly.

I regularly visit this cafe for a coffee and cake or a substantial lunch. The food is always excellent and the service is so friendly and efficient. Sarah and Christine, the owners, are both very attentive enduring everyone is happy.

Found this lovely little cafe after being refused a meal at The Dun Cow as 1350 was to late to order. They lost customers and we found a excellent cafe for a meal. Family run home made food at reasonable price what more could one ask for. Will most definitely drop in again

Popped in today after reading the good reviews. The staff are really friendly and it was really busy. We had a bacon roll and coffee and then 'forced' down a cake. Yum. We have taken their phone number so we can reserve a table for next time. I would be disappointed to go and not have a table. Also bought some home made chutney. We live about ten miles away but will definitely come back hopefully soon.

If they awarded medals for the friendliest and smiliest (is there such a word?) staff in a British tea shop, I reckon the relatively new team at Aubergine in Sedgefield’s High Street would have a fist full. I’m told that some members of staff before Christine and Sarah took over, didn’t always enjoy a good reputation for great customer service. This crew certainly can’t be faulted on that score. On our visit this week, they helped customers on and off with their coats, offered to come back and pour tea at intervals because the pot was rather large, and they couldn’t do too much to make sure we were happy with our choice of food. What’s more, I’m told, the loo was scrupulously clean. But to basics . . .The food wasn’t half bad either. We opted for home-made pie, chips and peas and our only regret was that there was so much of it that we couldn’t tackle any of the amazing cakes displayed behind the counter. What’s more, the prices were extremely reasonable. Well done, ladies - and the gentleman who couldn’t wait to get on his hands and knees with a dustpan and brush to clean up after a particularly messy young eater. Even if you don’t get a medal, I still think you all deserve one. Just don’t eat all that cake before my wife and I return!

Had a great first visit today, the cafe was busy but we couldn't have been made more welcome with our 2 year old twins, there was a box of toys, colouring books and crayons to keep them entertained and customers and staff alike were delightful to us. We all loved our lunch, we'll be popping in again soon after a feeding the ducks and running around at Hardwick Park.

Aubergine is a nice addition to the village and on some visits the whole experience can be very pleasing, from the nice tea / coffee and cakes to the good home cooked food and friendly staff, particularly working in the kitchens. Sadly there have been a handful of occasions when I have visited that i've noticed staff be quite frosty and rude to some customers. I wouldn't say it is particularly child friendly either. Sadly these two negative traits seems quite common in Sedgefield's two cafes on the high street. It'd be nice to see people smile and be more welcoming!

Me my husband and 2 boys went in here for breakfast when visited for the races. They made us feel very welcome but the food was very greasy! I ordered a bacon butty and they butter the bread?! So if you go here and don't like that now you know to mention it!the mushroom was right greasy too, but I suppose that's a fry up! Chocolate milkshake was gorgeous. Very busy place!

Cosy, friendly cafe, very helpful when I asked about something gluten free. I had a gorgeous cheesecake with strawberries (and cream on top). All home baked, they make other things as well. they also had G/F bread, omelette and jacket potatoes on the menu, just ask for details.

We happened upon this place after visiting nearby Hardwick Park parkrun. It looked perfect from the outside and didn't disappoint when we entered. The shining glass of the food cabinet, spotless floor and clean wiped tables immediately suggested high standards; and the warm welcome we got was lovely. Even without all that, I'd probably still return for the quality of food alone. I had a bacon and fried egg roll. Clearly good quality meat and non-greasy eggs whose yolks flowed into the soft wheatmeal bap when punctured. A mountainous fruit scone was enthusiastically despatched by my daughter and even the toast and jam my son opted for won instant approval - although the hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows wouldn't necessarily have been my choice of thirst quenching beverage! However, it was my wife - a connoisseur and maker of perfect fried egg sandwiches - who put the overriding seal of approval on things. Well done Aubergine - when we're next up from Brighton we'll be in again.

We only popped in for a quick coffee to take away, but I think we'll be popping back soon! It's the first time I've ever been inside Aubergine. The first thing I noticed was the great variety of delicious-looking cakes! They all looked very tasty. The staff were all very friendly. There is plenty of seating inside and they provide takeaway cups for coffee etc.

We had a birthday party saturday 15th october. Aubergine did buffet it was excellent quantity and quality superb bezt we have ever had. Would highly recommend service , very pleasant and could not do enough for us , well done Chris Pat and staff .

We have just had a lovely party catered by Aubergine in Sedgefield and the food supplied was amazing, all the guests commented on how fantastic the food was, thanks for make the party a smash hit.

Warm and friendly cafe- nothing is too much trouble . Staff are all very friendly and the Caramel shortbread and Krispie cake are best .

Unlike the previous reviewer, I have always found the staff in Aubergines to be very friendly and helpful, and certainly not lacking in social skills. The food served is always freshly cooked and all very tasty, having sampled the daily specials and also some from the main menu. A must is the afternoon tea which I had with 5 other friends. It was delicious, plentiful and extremely good value for money. Christine even gave us what we could not eat to take home. I would recommend this little homely cafe to anyone wanting good home cooked food - Aubergines is well worth a visit.

Attended Friday morning for a bacon and egg sandwich, clean and friendly, staff friendly, I would definitely come back to this place again and would recommend eating here
