At the suggestion of one of our party of four (plus baby) who had recently been to Aubaine in Selfridges we went to this Hampstead restaurant for breakfast on a cold but clear Saturday morning in early October. After having walked from Euston station into Hampstead we were ready for a good breakfast. Walked in off the street not having made a reservation where we were seated downstairs directly under the stairs (we had a child & buggy) and after looking at the menu and wishing we’d gone next door to Cote Brasserie we gave our orders to the waitress. Scrambled egg and salmon £8.00 (came with 1 piece of cold rock hard toasted bread with no butter or spread offered-maybe that’s the French way? two cherry tomatoes and curly kale), pot of tea £2.95, 2x formule sante £12.00 each (poached egg with avocado on seeded toast) one with fresh orange juice, one with a pot of tea, one pain au raisin £2.50 and one bottle of evian water (750ml) £4.00. We asked that one of the poached eggs be well done and when the food arrived the waitress said she couldn’t remember which was which but she could go back to the kitchen and ask but we declined this offer thinking we’d soon learn ourselves, well we did as they were both well done with one being more well done than the other making it more hard boiled than poached and did I mention my rock hard toast? All looked good (see my photo’s) and to be fair the scrambled egg , salmon and curly kale were fine but the rest was a poor do. Tea was nice as was the orange juice but you can‘t really mess that up. The total bill was £41.45 plus the norm (for Hampstead at any rate) service charge of 12.5% adding another £5.18 giving us a grand total of £46.63 for what was essentially three plates of egg, a bun and a couple of drinks. I had been thinking of trying this place for lunch or dinner but this experience of breakfast has put me off. I'm being generous with my overall rating of a three because it really falls between two and three.

The restaurant was overpriced and slightly pretentious. Not helped that it was next to Cote which is much better value and with better ambience. The wine list was expensive for what it was- the menu ditto. This is really an upmarket chain restaurant with nothing special to recommend it from its competitors -cote/giraffe/cafe rouge/carluccios.

it will be gone from hampstead before long.

Very slow service, visited for Sunday brunch. We waited over 30 minutes for our drinks which only appeared after we had to ask. Food, again was slow and eggs all overcooked.

Staff were friendly, although not particularly efficient. I think we caught them on a bad day. Distinct impression of the kitchen having a bad day as well. Had high hopes but were not realised.

Had lunch there with family; service was indifferent to unfriendly; waited 45 minutes for the food; starter (calamaris) was excellent, albeit a little too hot; mains platter was lamentable: limp prociutto, ice cold vegetables, olives from the tin and dodgy(?) mozzarella; in fairness, they left the mains off the bill after my complaints. However, had major intestinal problems in the evening. Not going there again.

Aubaine Hampstead is a local restaurant we have been to for breakfast a few times.
Its well located, nice and simple decor and the staff are friendly. Unfortunately, the service is extremely slow, we waited for 40-50 minutes between our first and Second course. The food presentation was terrible and lacked flavour. I ordered the Seared Beef with Balsamic Tomato Tart Tatin. This came as a floppy uncooked circular Puff pastry which had no puff layers at all. However the Sear beef was good. The main course for 2 out of our 3 diners was returned after tasting. The third diner of our party waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for their main course. To add insult to injury, the table was dirty with old food on the under surface and stuck to one diners clothing.

This is the first negative review I have written. Aubaine in Hampstead has really gone down-hill. Poor service, food average. Very over-priced. Staff lacking in knowledge and training. Staff who couldn't speak English had to call the head waiter. Head waiter too busy sitting at a table chatting with customers to even notice that we had walked in! Embarrassingly, the customer who he was chatting to, alerted him to the fact that we had been standing at the reception for 4 minutes. Asked for rare beef fillet but got medium. Too hungry to send it back. Forgot my side dish and admitted they gave it to the wrong table. Forgot to bring the dessert tray to our table and did not come back for 30 minutes after they cleared our main meal away. No offer of tea or coffee. Gave up after that and ordered the bill. Took them another 20 minutes to collect the payment. Complained about the service to the Head waiter but he was not interested and said he did his best! We did not pay the service charge!

I took my girlfriend here for a romantic evening. From the start it looked like the perfect place for date night. It was cosy and intimate and the waiters greeted us with warm smiles.
The food was really great. We are both fans of French food and what we had really did not disappoint. My lamb was tender and juicy, and my girlfriend had boullaibasse, which was actually amazing. It was a large portion, very creamy and full of flavour. At the end of the night, they even gave us a croissant and pain au chocolate on the house for next morning - must have seen that the date was going well!

Really friendly, great service and the food was truly delicious, including the dessert.

Definitely coming here again.

We found the way the selection of deserts were displayed very unappetising.
Every desert available was placed on a board/ plate almost touching each other. They had obviously been there for some considerable time as the cream was yellowed and all looked dried and rather shrivelled. We then had to have the waitress hold this platter over our table whilst she attempted to name and describe each desert in very poor English. We felt the display of deteriorated deserts was rather off putting, which was a shame.

My niece came to London for a weekend theatre visit and we met for brunch on Sunday. We were a party of four, my partner and I and my niece and her husband. The waiting staff were attentive, bringing the drinks we had ordered, promptly but giving us time to peruse the menu at our leisure.

Our food, when it arrived, looked very appetizing indeed. The presentation on the plate was pleasing to the eye but there was a downside to that. My niece's plate of scrambled Eggs Royale with smoked salmon was fulsome in quantity, but arrived cold to the table. The two full breakfasts that my partner and I had chosen were also cold when they arrived to the table. My niece's husband chose a "formule sante" and his was received warm, so was probably the last order prepared.

We did not complain. it had been so long since we had seen each other, that we spent a lot of time talking anyway, so the meals would, inevitably have got cold on the table, but I mention the fact now, in the hope that the kitchen devise a means to keep the food warm prior to service. I am sure that they will!

In my opinion, our dining experience was reasonably good. The waiting staff provided further drinks when requested and then left us to our own devices, to chat and catch up on family matters and at no time after we finished eating, did I feel that we were being hurried.

I have eaten at this restaurant before and was impressed with the service that time, also. On that occasion, a Saturday lunch, I was delighted with the standard of food. It was based on that visit that I chose Aubaine for this latest get-together.

Although this may seem like a negative review, particularly with regard to the food arriving cold, I must say that despite that mishap, I would be happy to pay a return visit in the not too distant future.

The place itself is lovely - quaint, beautifully decorated - but a number of things meant that the overall experience was poor. The place is relatively expensive and, for how much you're paying, you'd expect more. I ordered Oeufs Royal...the eggs and hollandaise sauce were beautiful, but the bread was stale and the amount of smoked salmon they gave you was pitiful. My partner didn't enjoy his full french breakfast either. Considering we got there prior to the lunchtime rush and there was around 4 waiters for 4 tables, we had to wait far too long on a number of occasions to catch their attention because they were busy chatting at the till. However, when we did manage to catch their attention, they were all lovely and very helpful. Considering portion sizes were so small, we were all still hungry after finishing our meals so ordered some almond croissants, which we were advised they didn't have. I don't understand how they had run out already, given that it was still early, and we hadn't been informed of this when we were given the menus. I then ordered a coffee and a pain au chocolat, which were both delicious. Overall, as I said, not a great experience.

Despite being positioned on Hampstead High Street, this place always gets my pick as it's always a notch or two above "high street" standard food. The service is friendly and efficient; the dishes are well-conceived and score highly on taste. The desserts/patisserie are worth visiting for in their own right. Really expensive for pretty tiny portions. £8.50 for two eggs on toast with some hollandaise sauce. £18 for a burger bap, one slice of lettuce, and about 100g of steak cut into strips.Food was average, but serving size considering the price was a huge disappointment. Also the place was full of screaming babies - I guess that is not their fault and says more about the location than anything but it didn't exactly add to the experience.

I have enjoyed eating at Aubaine in Mayfair before and by contrast was relatively disappointed in my experience at Aubaine in Hampstead. The menu and quality of food remained high, but the service was disappointing. On arrival, I sat down with my friends and almost immediately needed to get up and go to the loo, at which point the waitress physically pushed me back into my chair and said she would get me and my friend a gin and tonic, which my other friend who had arrived early and had already ordered one was drinking. I'm sure it was not meant in a pushy way but that's how it came across. What is more, given we were about to order a bottle of wine and the Gin & Tonics cost over £10 each, I wasn't particularly happy with this, but being British I just went along with it - to my annoyance later!

My husband and I had a relaxing meal at the Hampstead branch of Aubaine tonight. Our French waiter was excellent being very friendly and attentive. I was expecting French food but did not see any French dishes on the menu. My husband's goat's cheese salad was delicious but my superfood salad, although extremely healthy, lacked flavour. My roast cod main course consisted of perfectly cooked fish but was served with dark green spinach puree which again was probably very healthy but unpleasant to eat. My husband again fared better with his beef fillet and delicious fries. To compensate I had a wonderful gooey chocolate fondant for dessert and my husband had a disappointing dry and stale cake. It is a beautiful restaurant with great service, such a shame the food is inconsistent.

My family and I had a really enjoyable evening meal at Aubaine, Hampstead, and would definitely recommend it to friends and family, particularly those with children. The restaurant was beautifully designed and had a lovely rustic charm with 'shabby chic' decor and furniture and lots of flowers. It was easy to loose yourself in the moment and forget that you were on a busy high street and were not in Provence!Despite, being very quiet with only a few customers, the restaurant had a warm and friendly atmosphere which was generated by the genuine warmth and friendliness of the staff, who were intent in ensuring that customers had a great experience. I was really impressed with the care taken by both our main server and the manager to pace the service appropriately, where we felt neither ignored nor pressurised to order or finish our meal. Although, in my opinion, the menu was a little 'conservative' with not many truly authentic French dishes or vegetarian mains, there were still lots of great salads as starters, a good selection of fish and seafood dishes, and an extensive wine list. Plus, the food and drinks that we ordered were delicious and offered good value for money, particularly the children's fish goujon dish, which was a very generous sized portion. We ordered the following dishes: the children' fish goujons dish, the pan-fried sea bass, the lamb rump and side orders of French fries and broccoli. All dishes were served hot, matched the menu description perfectly and were very tasty. For instance, the sea-bass was cooked perfectly and had a lovely texture and taste, whilst the accompanying artichoke puree was light, tasty and full of flavour. However, my husband was a little disappointed that his lamb was not cooked medium rare, as requested. It was a little overcooked in some parts, thus making it a little dry.For desserts we ordered a slice of carrot cake, creme brulee and Mi Cuit au Chocolat, The carrot cake and creme brulee were real treats and tasted absolutely devine, but unfortunately the Mi Cuit au Chocolat was hard and quite heavy, and the chocolate sauce inside it, was dry and lumpy. Therefore, although I would rate the staff, service and environment very highly, some of our dishes did not meet a similar standard. Nevertheless, overall it was still a lovely experience and we would definitely return there again - with or without children.

The venue is well positioned on Hampstead High Street and offers a wide range of eating options for all day dining. The venue is really charming. The decoration and ambiance are really special. It manages to combine elegance with a French style rustic charm. The mood is really romantic and yet relaxed and cosy at the same time. We popped in for breakfast and we really enjoyed the experience. The staff on duty were friendly and helpful especially the Manager. He described various dishes on the breakfast menu and was very welcoming. We had the avocado toast which he recommended and the Eggs Benedict. I enjoyed the avocado toast but was a bit disappointed since the avocado was far to cold to be enjoyable when eaten with poached eggs. My guest had the Eggs Benedict and she loved them. They were really well cooked and tasty with the addition of Bayonne ham. Also unlike other places they had not overdone the Hollandaise sauce. I would say that the portion size of both dishes is fairly small. Both dishes could have done with a slightly bigger portion of bread. We were still a bit peckish when we finished and decided to share a croissant....it was very good. Really flaky and fresh. I am not really a jam person but the raspberry jam was sublime. Really fruity and bursting with flavour. When I looked at the label I could see why. The high fruit content in relation to sugar was the explanation. If you try it you won't be disappointed. The place is really relaxed and comfortable and we really enjoyed our breakfast. It was our first visit but we are looking forward to having an excuse to return soon.

We visited family in the UK over Easter and rented a house in Hampstead. We were pleasantly surprised to discover the area has become decidedly cosmopolitan and all the better for it! Wandering home late one night we passed Aubaine and having looked longingly at the menu outside decided we were under dressed and too late for a meal. The manager noticed my husband and I checking out the menu and came out to say he'd be glad to serve us although it was obvious they were finishing up for the night. My husband wanted soup to start but wasn't taken with the soups on the menu that night. The manager, mentioned that they'd made a traditional soup for the staff that day and asked if he would he like a bowl. My husband was excited to try something not listed on the menu and so enjoyed a delicious beef and vegetable soup that he said was the best he'd ever tasted - so it's worth asking! My husband and I then spent a very pleasant hour or so eating delicious, well prepared food in a beautiful decorated restaurant (that has much charm and ambiance) talking to the very entertaining and well traveled manager, Bogdan. We highly recommend this restaurant for its location, the beauty of the old building in which it's housed, the decor and of course the excellent food from a well conceived menu of choices. We were just sorry we were heading north the next day or we would have been back for breakfast and lunch too! If he's not too busy ensuring his customers are happy with their food you might also be fortunate enough to spend some time chatting with the very entertaining Bogdan!

Had lunch here with two friends last week. The restaurant was almost empty but the two female staff were slow and sullen and the young man was lovely but new.Despite advertising a set lunch outside I had to ask for the menu after being offered only the a la carte (this always puts me in a bad mood - it's mean spirited) The same with water - why can't tap water just be offered and if we want bottled water we would ask for it. We were not given a choice and bottled water was opened. It took an age for the food to be served and, once we had it, trying to grab the attention of the waitress as she read something by the till - meant the steak was cold by the time we had asked for, and been given the mustard. Surely mustard should automatically be offered with steak? The food was excellent but sorry there are too many other nice restaurants in Hampstead to chose from where service is efficient and friendly - shame for the chefs!

Booked for Mothers Day, the restaurant was only half-full in the afternoon however service was extremely slow, inefficient, and uninterested. The main arrived cold (small dry piece of fish fillet swimming in a plateful of some floury sauce), the glass with Bellini was for some reason half full when it was brought to the table. My daughter ordered a burger but received a chewy piece of steak (rather than ground meat as expected). The atmosphere is non-existent, with some cheesy music playing too loudly in the background. While the prices appear reasonable, the level of service and food is below standard, so I really cannot recommend this place unfortunately, it just doesn't deliver.

There is no special Sunday lunch menu (unless it's a Mother's Day) but instead they have a weekend brunch menu with something more than just a Sunday roast. We visited on the International Women's Day and a few Eastern European families - where this holiday is still a big deal - treated their beloved ladies for a meal and a cocktail. I wouldn’t call the restaurant spacious but it's cosy (apart from the artificial plants on the window sills and in the toilet). The quality of food was amazing - we had Salade à la Fourme d’Ambert and Carpaccio de boeuf for starter and Filet de Boeuf and Moules Marinière et Frites for main course respectively. The portions were not extremely big but they are not excessive either. The highlight of the lunch was a dessert plate where you can choose your sweet treats from. Unfortunately, in our case the choice was limited just to three things of which we had two - pistacchio macaroons and apple cake. But the manager came out to the dining hall to apologize personally (not to us, we just overheard) for the limited choice on that afternoon and told us about the International Women's Day celebrations in his native Romania. The waitresses were from Romania too, lovely and chatty young ladies. The atmosphere was so relaxing and homey that we spent over two hours there in total. Would not hesitate to recommend!

Lovely dinner at Aubaine Hampstead. The service was outstanding and could not have been friendlier. The atmosphere is cosy and the dishes were all superb - we chose the sharing platter as our starter and the mussels and sea bass for mains. And our coffees were delicious! We will return soon!

Quell merveilleux restaurant. Deco chaleureuse, accueil , gentillesse, service, il n'y a rien a redire. La cuisine est géniale, tout est frais , diversifie, les pâtisseries délicieuses . The decor and environment in Aubaine are very impressive. It has such warm colours and comfortable furniture at which to sit. The food is also of a very good quality. Although the menu is quite limited in terms of the number of choices, it is still a good menu with sufficient choices. We found all of the staff to be very helpful and friendly, and therefore felt very welcome here. I would definitely return to Aubaine for a special occasion as it is fairly pricy for what it is.

First I would like to say that the restaurant looks very chic inside and outside and the location is great. The food I can say it was cooked to perfection and the bread is to die for :).We had fish and beef as the main course and both really really nice, a little pricey but I cannot complain because of the quality and freshness of the food. Portion sizes are just perfect if you are having starter, main and desert. Also they have amazing deserts, we tried a few (not all at the same time of course) we went there second day. Lovely, polite and friendly staff and yes all in all I can say we had a great evening with wonderful food and wine. I would recommend it to anyone who has a great taste in fine dining and appreciate quality not quantity! I am definitely going back there again.

Had dinner on Valentine's day with my girlfriend. Service was really good. Our waitress was really friendly and helpful. Food came quickly, but was a bit pricey for the quantity (esp. as we had to share the sides). But overall had a good time, will definitely go back.

The starters were lovely, chilli squid and mixed salad. My lobster spaghetti for main was delicious but my boyfriends steak was dry and chewy and had to be sent back. They replaced it with a delicious bit of cod though and the service was brilliant. I would go back.

Very pleasant surroundings and welcoming staff. Food was superb - the French breakfast is highly recommended. As it was Valentine's Day there were special cakes - although the mille feuille is to die for at any time. Service was great and the maitre d' was attentive. Great value, great food, great ambience.

Although Aubaine has become a chain, the staff and ambience are far from the usual indifference once experiences from chains. I have been to other Aubaines, but the Hampstead branch has by far the best service and a great Manager.

I was there to have lunch with a friend and we chose Aubaine Hampstead because it is perfect for a girly catch up mid week. We spotted a couple of celebrities which, although I hate to admit, I do enjoy seeing a celeb or two!

I had the leek and potato soup which was rather watery and bland. My companion had the eggs benedict which was alright. We both had a main course of the superfood salad with added goats cheese. It was a bit flimsy but quite tasty.

I don't come to Aubaine for the food but for the atmosphere and service which is excellent.

I usually write reviews either when I like a restaurant very much or when I don't like it all. Aubaine Hampstead falls into the latter category. The good news is that it is a lovely space, a series of interlinked rooms that are tastefully and sensitively decorated. Additionally, the service was attentive and not unpleasant. But then the bad news begins and the worst news is the food. I was in a party of four and none of us was satisfied with the meal. To start with I ordered fish coujons fried in Japanese Panko breadcrumbs. This is usually a crispy delicious dish (that I make myself) but the Aubaine version was dry, tasteless and the breadcrumbs were almost certainly not Panko. Then came the main course. Three of us had the special of the day, boef bourginonne (spelling?), and found it tough and stringy. The presentation of the food was also lacking. The beef, for instance, was served in a slop with a dollop of mash on top of the meat, no greenery or garnish. It looked unappetising and was. The desserts were OK but no more than that. Finally, the cost was high. At over £40 per person, it was poor value and nothing compared to Cote next door in quality and value for money. I would avoid at all costs.

I have eaten at Aubaine on more than this occasion and have always had a good meal. This time my mains was not up to the mark. Had ordered the Lamb Cassoulet and it was a bland, tasteless stew. The service also left some to be desired.
That said when we mentioned this while leaving to the manager he offered us two mains on the house on our next visit.
Also Open Table had suggested that a fixed price menu was available but it wasn't. Maybe Open Table need to verify offers?

We ate in Aubine in Hampstead on Tuesday evening after doing so shopping in the local area. We were quite impressed by the outside appearance of the restaurant which seemed elegant and inviting and we decided to give it a go. The inside décor was chic and stylish and our expectations regarding the food were raised even higher. The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived and the staff gave us their full attention. Unfortunately this didn’t last long, as the evening went by we were left neglected on many occasions and we were struggling to get staff attention (we had to ask for the bill twice as the staff wouldn’t bring it to us in the first place). Regarding the food we decided to go for calamari, goujons for starters and Lamb Cassoulet, Mussels and Sea bass for mains. The food was ok, but nothing spectacular, and to be honest we were expecting something better, especially considering the price. All in all we were rather disappointed and we don’t think he restaurant offers good value at all.

We only went there as Cote was full next door. Small and expensive portions. We were brought one wrong dish and had to wait while rest of food on table - no apology. "Fresh" orange juice clearly out of a bottle. Noticed waitress picking up butter portions from floor and placing in the basket with bread. Service generally very poor so 12.5% addition to bill wholly unmerited.

Food was definitely below standard. My friend's soup watery and steak full of grizzle

I had the cod/risotto and although have a dairy problem the food was absolutely tasteless. Have had dairy free risottos in other establishments and they were tasty with herbs and other flavourings added. Although sent it back they left it on the final bill (this may to be honest have been a mistake but should not have been put in the position of having to ask for it to be taken off. We paid the bill then asked for the Manager as wished to express my extreme disappointment in the whole dining experience. I was told ' we try' and she obviously could not have cared less.

We had resisted entering the restaurant for some time, put off by the prices on the menu placed on the outside of the restaurant. It was the £18 hamburger that put us off. However, putting prejudice aside, we booked a table for six. We were seated in the rear of the restaurant which was tastefully decorated and slightly more intimate. We ordered the food and the manager made a great effort to assist one of the party to choose a good wine. Those who chose the starters were happy. The calamari dish was shared between two of us and was more than ample and delicious. Then the main courses were served. But this where it started to go wrong. Two of the main courses had been forgotten. The waitresses were concerned , and the manager swept up to our table and apologised to one of the guests, (not to all of us). Finally all of our dishes arrived. Three of us were happy with our dishes, the lobster spaghetti was excellent, as was the filet de boeuf. Three were not entirely happy. The chicken dish was a slice of plain chicken with rocket concealing it. The lamb and sausage cassoulet was a disappointment. The lamb was cut into large chunks, some consisting of fifty per cent fat. The sausage pieces were very few and small. They appeared to be over-cooked. The beans were dried out as if placed under a heater. However, it was the hamburger that stole the show. To be fair, the fries were excellent, crisp and hot. The burger was a small irregular cut of steak with the fat left on and cold. The texture of the bun was odd and tasteless. The desserts were excellent. The wine was a good choice for most dishes. The service was unobtrusive. On the whole, the décor was let down by the uneven quality of the food.

The restaurant looked inviting, bright and clean. The atmosphere was relaxed, comfortable and friendly. The menu was wide and offered a great choice of food and drink to suit all tastes. Food was freshly cooked and prepared and was full of nice flavours and seasoning. Staff were polite, helpful, pleasant and made us feel very welcome. I would like to return here to try another dish from the wide menu. The staff and manager worked well together and developed a good rapport with other customers. The décor was eye catching and had a flavour of France.

Well situated bistro style restaurant in Hampstead, open all day. Paprika & chilli dusted squid was excellent. Beef fillet was a big disappointment. Although it was cooked rare (as requested), three quarters of it was positively tough to chew; for some reason, the remaining quarter was tender. It was also unseasoned. The pepper sauce was barely peppery. At £26 this isn't good enough.

I went to a Aubaine for a lazy sunday lunch. I would highly recommend it. The dishes served were what I would describe as classic cuisine. However, the chain is a but above competitors due to the quality of the ingredients. In addition, the atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxing due to low level lighting and clean rustic decorations. The staff were friendly and engaging which made the experience even more enjoyable. I will definitely be returning to the restaurant within the near future.
Decor was OK.
Seated at a table for 2 in what seemed like a walkway so not particularly relaxing. I couldn't spot anywhere that looked much better that were free though.
Portions were meagre. Food looked like it had been reheated/microwaved. My lamb cassoulet was mainly cannelini beans, with about 6 small cubes of untrimmed (fatty) lamb. The "Roasted seasonal vegetables" were small square cubes of potato and swede which were undercooked. Looked white/blanched and unappetizing (and they were!). The best part was the brocolli, which was cooked OK.
My partner's mussels were "OK" but not hot enough really.
We both had the butternut squash (?) soup to start which was OK and hot but fairly bland.
The food wasn't bad enough to be sent back (we were hungry).
Staff were friendly enough and efficient.
My first visit and my last. There are far better places to eat in the vicinity for similar prices.

We booked for the 2 course with wine offer and all I can say is - don't bother! The food was awful! We both had chicken and mushroom pie with 'creamy mashed potatoe' which was nothing of the sort - the sauce was runny and insipid and the potato was supposedly incorporated into it! What rubbish! I couldn't eat it. The manager took the cost of the wine off the bill to apologise. We would never go back and recommend anyone else to give it a miss!

The service started well, we had two courses with a glass of house wine for £16.50. The starters was ok we had a soup and a terrine. The let down came when we ordered the main course. Both of us chose the chicken pie with mash. We only received the pie, when we asked where the mash was, they said the chef had forgotten. We had almost devoured the pie when the mash finally turned up. No apology was made and not even a gesture of a free coffee or dessert was offered. We we paid the bill which includes service charge and left without adding a tip.

We visited during Hampstead Restaurant week as Aubaine had a fixed menu and had advertised a Jazz evening etc.We had previously not visited because the prices had put us off for a chain restaurant. The set menu was very good and the food quality average-good and for £16/person good value, with 4 people the bill was £64. However by adding 1 drink each, some water and 1 dessert the final bill was over £140. Unfortunately with the average/slow service and average food, I can’t see us returning to Aubaine, as there are plenty of good restaurants who don’t over-charge on the pricing.

This place needs to raise its game. They serve "French Breakfast"-not to be confused with a French breakfast in France, a croissant, a fag and a strike. This features French breakfast tea. It is made with ze luke warm (chaud pas bouillante) water and something that would not pass as a tea bag. Dried leaf en papilotte. Enquiries were met with an arrogant gallic schrug (NW). Luckily I keep a secret stash of PG for such moments in my handbag so could witch up the brew. Dinner-another matter. Food is okay, if a little over seasoned but the service is again "Frarrogant", c'est francais but le customer? Bah....So if the food could keep up with the attitude of the staff, this could be Cote. But is doesn't and it isn't so I only go here if there are no tables in Cote. Vegetable coated in enough butter to swim the Channel. Lots of gobby oligarchs looking for class and shouting at their womenfolk. No broken glass and printed menu so we should be grateful for small mercies.
