Friendly pub, with on the whole great food, minus the flatbread. I ordered a flatbread but ended up with the garlic flatbread from the starter menu.

Comfortable, friendly, relaxed atmosphere, highly recommended

Attended for carvery yesterday - food OK but service none existent. For a very easy order of 4 x Sunday lunch carvery we had to prompt being seated despite booking, had to go to the bar to follow up on drinks and dessert orders and even had to request the bill twice eventually paying at the bar whilst staff walked past continually ignoring customers. Extremely poor and won't be back sadly.

Nice village pub great beers friendly staff, didn't have a meal so can't comment.

Waiting, and waiting, and waiting. In 2 hours we only got our first round of drinks which were ordered after 10 minutes, nobody came and asked us if we wanted more. When they took our initial food order, they apologised because they thought someone else already had. Didn't cater for a dairy allergy despite the menu stating they cater for all allergies. One of us went to the shop around the corner to get dairy free milk so she could have a coffee! No dessert she could have, so if you're vegan don't expect anything.

Went to the Astley for a family meal for my wife’s birthday. Food was excellent but the service left something to be improved on.. We had finished our main course , the carvery was superb, however we ordered another round of drinks and the server bought 3 drinks to the table, lifted one off the tray, while balancing the tray on her arm, and the other two drinks fell off and the red wine in the glass spilt over 3 of the party nearest the server, and the other 3 were splashed on shoes and trousers. Although the server was apologetic and bought us tea towels and paper roll to mop up the spillage on the table, the drinks were replaced, and that was it. After this happened one of the women in our party felt in her handbag and most of the contents were drenched. No other enquiry was made from any of the restaurant staff as to whether all was ok. Not pleased, I just hope the wine stains come off my trousers and the splashes on the other diners clothes. Not very happy.

Nice place to sit and socialise with friends and family only popped in for a drink on this occasion and the place was beautifully decorated and cosy I will visit again for food as I've been told it's very nice 🙂

Big family outing for a birthday celebration and they catered for us all very competently. We all enjoyed what we ordered, and I can recommend the 'Chicken Fajitas', coz I love food that you don't need knife & fork (little messy but that's part of the enjoyment). 4* only because no atmosphere appart from our very busy table - tbf was Wednesday night!

Down hill avoid So we booked for my daughter in laws birthday . 6 in total . Staff really slow. We was the only booking in . Now we know why. So we was given a new menu .Asked about all the other items on display showing food we have eaten before a big fat no as the boards aint been taken down . So we finally found something to eat of this menu . After waiting ages . And having to go the bar to get our dinks as no one could be bothered. The food came and the chips tasted of deep fat fish warm ups . My granddaughter refused hers . The food was ok . The cheesecake menu which we loved displayed cant order from . So some little menu given to us . We paid over 100 for the meal drinks . This place has gone so down hill run by kids .we defo wont return

Bistro quality food with pub service The food was very good definitely a cut above pub grub but the price reflected this , the service was OK but when we got our main course one of the orders had not been relayed to the chef so only came 10 minutes after everyone else's , overall a good night but for the prices they are charging they need to up their game on service

Smartly dressed staff were excellent on our visit. The food we had was as good as we expected with special mention for the salmon dish with king prawns. The place is in transition so please take this review as we experienced it

It’s been a while since we visited here and on this visit we looked after by some excellent smartly dressed staff. Our memories of previous visits were unfortunately to be our best as the huge menu boards we enjoyed are now longer an option, the menu and variety has been drastically cut back. That said the staff actually helped to create a meal that wasn’t on the menu and so after the disappointment of the limited choices we were very pleased with the meals we had. Mid priced good sized portion meals were freshly made. Good visit made more so by some excellent staff

I wouldn’t come back. We had a table of 10 people for a Sunday carvery, to be heavily disappointed. My dad was visitng from the USA with his Australian wife, so both were looking for to a classic “English carvery”. We waited around to be served, we had to go ask if we order at the bar or if it’s table service. We had someone take our drinks order, which took a while, whilst we still sat around, having no idea if we go up for the carvery or if they need to take our order. 2 out of the party of 10 wanted a mix grilled, which is advertised on the walls and above the bar. The server asked how they wanted the meat cooked, to later be told “we don’t do that anymore”. We waited at the carvery area, unsure how we get the meat… as nobody was around. Eventually someone showed up to cut the meat, but the selection of carvery was BIZZARE!!! And they DON’T have MASH!!?!! They did have a few selections of things (like bright yellow cheesy mash??) that had one spoonful left, but with 10 of us.. that wouldn’t go far, we were told “no sorry we’re not making anymore”. There was however… battered onion rings, battered sausage, battered mushrooms, potato croquets, deep fried potato balls and garlic toast?? We had almost finished our carveries before the kids heavily battered fish showed up, and again, waited around for a long time to ask for a bill / clear plates. I would absolutely NOT recommend the service or the carvery here. With how much we spent, I’m really disappointed.

Went with two friends not realising menu had changed,so no plum sauce so I settled for lasagne not realising how large the portion sizes would be ,it was very tasty and came with chips,side salad and ketchup,my friends had salmon which she loves but was covered in a sauce which she didn't,would have been better separate,my other friend had chicken wraps which was a massive meal and she took the majority home,but we had a lovely evening and would go again perhaps as a special treat .

40 minutes before being served. Had to ask to be served and the manager said she didn’t know we were there yet she told her staff where to sit us. No apology nothing. Average food. Really disappointed

Looked good and to be fair I only had the soup which was tomato but I definitely expected it to taste better. Seemed home made which was nice and portion was plenty but didn't taste as nice as I'd expect and the single chuck of bread was smothered in a spread that was not good. Strongly suggest investing in real butter. Service was with a smile but no fresh black pepper pepper available to make the soup taste of more. Only ground white pepper. Other people's meals looked good but if the soup was anything to go by they may have been disappointing. I would be willing t o try again though. Also the kids activity sheet was good. Although crayons were not volunteered when I asked I was given a decent selection of pens and pencils. EDIT I wrote that before going to the till realising I had left my purse at home!! Kyle behind the bar actually paid my bill as "his good deed for the day". What an absolute random act of kindness!! God bless that boy and would not let me credit his account from my phone. Customer service was already impressive now I'm astounded 👏 ❤️ Thanks Kyle. I hope your manager knows you just cemented a Customer xxxx

Went for a Family Birthday Meal yesterday (Sunday 22nd January), sat down by very friendly staff, even though it was packed they couldn't do enough for us. The food cooked by Dom was absolutely fantastic. Really looking forward to our next visit.

What a loverly little carvery , the food was hot and fresh with plenty of choices of veg and extras like onion rings battered chicken mushrooms , 10.95 well worth it , staff really nice friendly and very relaxed. No bad points at all , one yorkshire pudding per person but if you've room they will give you another happy 😀 also a very good menu with plenty of choice.

Came for Christmas dinner with the family there was 10 of us they said they could accommodate gluten free which was amazing to hear with a wheat allergy. £80 each the gluten free meal was served with 3 slices of turkey one parsnip a potato and extremely watery gravy which i had to wait 10 minutes to be served after everyone else no other gluten free options for sides were offered. There was only one dessert that was gluten free very disappointing meal had. more to the point the venue clearly wasn’t careful or observant and I was served something with wheat ingredients in my disappointing Christmas lunch which has resulted in myself being extremely ill for 2 days I may as well of just had the full dinner which the rest of my party received. If you are gluten free or have wheat allergies or any allergies avoid this place

We came for Christmas lunch and it was great. 3 courses, beautifully cooked, lovely service and a nice atmosphere.

Was very quiet on my visit for lunchtime. But the menu choices where limited on the day due to the Christmas menu availability. However staff where attentive and friendly food was excellent and prepared in good time. Would be happy to return.

Just moved to Astley village Visited the Village inn. The staff are excellent and their willingness to help is superb. Nothing is a problem to them. The food is excellent and quick to arrive. The manager herself dealt with my order which she tailored for my appetite when I was being fussy. Proper good pub which I shall visit again. Johnny Hearne

Never had a bad experience, it’s one of my a fave places to eat. We regularly hold family meals here as they are always accommodating. Recently came for dads 60th in October which was great 😊

We had reserved a table and when we arrived for the carvery were told that they had no chicken left which was a little disappointing. Everything else was available and there was plenty. I realise that seating for the carvery nerds to be close but it is rather pokey. Wod liked to have been seated elsewhere

I have been to this restaurant a number of times. The food is very good, but the standards of hygiene and the service have taken a tumble. We sat on one of the high tables next to the window which had about 20 Big black flies on the blinds we moved tables immediately then waited & waited for our drinks (arrived 20 minutes later ) our food arrived quickly but we had no cutlery I went to the bar and got them myself my husband asked for vinegar when it arrived the vinegar inside the bottle was cloudy & looked like it had something growing in the bottle a Second bottle was given to us, which was worse than the first one. These are really low standards. Vinegar should not look cloudy and snotty and the service is appalling

I didn’t even know this pub existed until I found it on the CaskFinder app. Goes to show how the app brings in custom. Great ale, the food looks good and the place is very well turned out.

The food itself was very nice, with good sized portions however it its the front of house that massively let's this place down. It was dreadful and non existent. Supposedly had table service, but the drinks took forever and a day to arrive when ordered (the pub was fairly quiet at this time too). Food arrived with the "waiter" quickly placing them on the table and immediately walking off, without asking if we wanted condiments, only to realise we had no cutlery neither, and ignored our calls when requesting them. This happened with both the starter and main. Nobody came to check and see if our meals where fine, after waiting a good while for someone to appear with no luck had to go to the bar to order our second lot of drinks. After finishing, our plates remained on the table with nobody coming to clear them and after waiting 10 mins opted to pay and leave rather than having dessert. Several tables around us also had dirty plates and cutlery during the whole time we ate at the venue without being cleared. Upon going up to pay all staff were sat in a corner chatting away amd laughing (was definitely not a staff meeting) and once provided with the bill was not asked how everything had been and received a half hearted thank you when payment was received with no acknowledgement when leaving. Will not return and will definitely not recommend to anyone.

Not far from where we live, so we always pop in for a pint with the dog... there is a separate dog area.... the food is always good....its just like having your tea at home.... the bar staff are always polite...

As a regular Green Crab customer, I appreciate and am used to a high standard of good pub food at reasonable prices, excellent service and clean pleasant surroundings. On Friday 8th September, I went for lunch to the Astley Village Inn for the first time. As with all my previous experiences within the group, internally, everything met the usual standard. My overall experience was spoiled when approaching the main entrance from the car park I saw that the area immediately in front of the door was heavily littered with old cigarette stubs and other detritus which had obviously been there a considerable time. I had invited a lady to lunch and had chosen the Astley because of my past experience within the group and the Astley’s location equidistant from both our homes. I was the first to arrive and my initial impression on approach was that it was a dump and I began to regret making the booking and extending the invitation to the lady I had invited. I entered reluctantly anticipating cancelling my reservation, to find the usual standard of welcome and service. We both enjoyed our respective quality meals. The maxim that ‘First impressions count’, applies here. A small effort with a broom would make a great deal of difference to prospective customers.

This place needs to change its outside signs as we have lived in the area for 5 year and always assumed it to be a grotty working man’s club. I called in with my parents and baby on the way to astley park and was pleasantly surprised, so much so my husband brought the other 2 kids after school to meet for tea. Loads of option and prices are very very fair. 3 of us had burgers all of which were very good, not the cheap frozen type you might expect. My mum had fish and chips which was massive. In all honesty you just can’t knock it. We will definitely be back ideal for a purse friendly bite to eat and drink after walking the dog ( dog friendly areas also ) The kids also got ice cream of which there was plenty variety and not the cheap Neapolitan style stuff you sometimes get at pub grub places. Can’t fault it for price

We booked a table for a party of twelve for a family birthday. Our table was waiting for us when we arrived. On ordering there were a couple of things we chose that they had run out of which was disappointing but not the end of the world. All the food was delicious, large portions and well cooked, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were pleasant and helpful. I'd seen some negative reviews just before we came which worried me a bit but no need, we had a nice relaxed evening with good food.

This was our very first visit and we had travelled from Southport and some from the other side of Manchester. As there were several of us, we decided on the Sunday Carvery. We were a family celebrating and were badly let down by the poor customer service and lack of food on offer. Without going into detail, all I can say is the place is run by a bunch of kids who don't know the first thing about operating in a customer service environment. It spoiled what should have been a lovely family reunion and celebration. Wouldn't recommend it! And won't be going again.

Omg went in for a drink the place was virtually empty maybe due to no John Smith's, the Guinness ran out after one pint. This place needs renaming to the barrens as it is devoid of most things

Really nice food with lots of choice. Service was excellent considering we were a large party (around 25) the food came quickly, freshly cooked and staff were great.

We have been twice and the first time I would have given 5 stars, however, this time, I'd rate at 3 and so I've gone in the middle. We thought the carvery was amazing the first time, however, this time everything was cold, the gammon seemed undercooked and the Yorkshire puddings were tough, not even crispy, just tough. However, the melting chocolate pudding was amazing. We then also have to wait at the bar for 5 minutes to pay because there was only one person serving and they were taking drinks orders too. All in all, if this has been our first time there, we wouldn't be going again, certainly not for a carvery.

I’ve Never had a bad meal here and the service is always fabulous! It is a Great place for big family/friend occasions- as they can hold larger parties, and the food always comes out all together and it’s always hot and fresh even though you have to pre order for bigger reservations. It’s a great place for date night, or a just a little family treat for lunch/dinner etc. Both my kids love it, even though my eldest can be fussy when it comes to food, he always finishes all of his food here, which is not something he does often. The Staff are all very accommodating with extra needs ie health conditions/ extra requirements/food intolerances. And check in on you from time to time (for drinks, extra sauces, crayons/paper for the kids etc) Lots of seating inside and plenty more outside for the warmer months. 🙌🏼 lots of parking. There are also disabled facilities available as well as child changing. 🤍

Visit this place for the second time and i can confirm that it worth a visit.. quite location an nice interiors.. the staff is very attentive and good food is delicious and tge portions are big. Definitely recommend it

Excellent food differently go again .

Not visited for a while as our last experience wasn’t good but thought we’d give it another try, won’t be going back, had to go and ask them if they’d take our order having been sat at the table 20 minutes with nobody coming to us, the Carvery is supposed to be on until 6pm, booked a table for 5 at 5pm for family who all wanted a carvery, came to order at 5.20pm ‘sorry no carvery left’ !! Same happened last time………! Not the best place with family either, table next to us very loud, getting shots after shots, swearing, not great when your with your family and a two year old…..won’t be returning…far better places around here….

Wow where do I start? Went here last Sunday for Carvery not mention about other foods we've been very surprised in a good way . The carvery for the price is far better than at Toby Carvery not mention about the price. The price was astonishing only £10.99 p.p the quality went beyond our beliefs. BIG FAT THANK YOU for this. The size could be larger maybe planning permission for extension expansion of this buisnbes worth be putting on the table and discusses over table with the management and staff. The only downsize which we've been witnessed is fact that easily anyone might walk away without paying the bill. Where on 🌎 is your awareness and cautiones the message to the management pay attention to it get payment in advance for order anything. Do upgrade the booking system instead of using old fusion way on paper crossing out tables which are /are not available. Do take urgent action for better and prompt service particularly waiters nobody has abilities 'read between lines or so' All in all I highly recommend going there particulary for location and family spirit in that floating everywhere. We go to the Astley a lot and always enjoyed it. So we decided to have our Golden wedding anniversary party there last night. It was superb. The food was delicious and the staff went above and beyond to make our special occasion even more special. Big thanks to them all and thanks again for all your help. Very nice place to eat. Massive menu. Very, very speedy cooking time and good service. Small dog-friendly area and an outdoor seating area. Will definitely be returning.

Food was o.k.bit expensive and menu too big.

Very impressed with the food and service. We telephoned on the off chance they would have a table for 8 and a dog straight away which to our delight they did. We had a concern when we arrived as the carpark was empty which isn't always a good sign. However, all the meals were enjoyed and the service was exceptional. Toilets were lovely and clean. Thank you.

1st time we been here and wasn't disappointed, food is the best we had in a long time, highly recommend and will be returning.

Excellent food and helpful staff

Really wasn't happy with this visit. For the first time ever all 6 plates had food left on them. It wasn't just myself that disliked it, but the entire family. The beef was more gristle, and fat than meat, and I'm not keen on Aunt Bessie's, which it seems most of the veg, and accoutrements where! It lacks the original made at home style, which adhered us to it in the first place. Sad really as it was much more enjoyable before.

Simply wow, great atmosphere, lovely clean bright place and very welcoming. The food was great start to finish and would strongly recommend the sticky toffee pudding cheesecake. Will definitely be back soon!

The food and prices are amazing- can’t complain but there is so much salad with the food , mainly leaves too. Yeah it’s good to have a bit but there’s more salad than the actual food you ordered

I've visited The Astley before a few months ago and was impressed with our experience. So I returned this evening and wish I hadn't bothered. First of all, the lights where off on the wall so we was sat in near enough darkness. When asked if they could switch them on I was told no, there was 'technical issues'. Fair enough. When we ordered the waitress came back 3 times to ask us to change our order as they had ran out of gammon, chicken and ham pie and jelfrazi curry. The food then took a further hour to arrive, after a member of the party asking how long it was going to be he was told 5 minutes we are next but watched the waitress come out with the table next to ours food. Who ordered after us. When the food arrived it came in an order so the youngest member (1 years old) arrived last and was scalding hot. The bread was stale, chips where cold, childrens meal had clearly been microwaved along with other parts of the meal. When the waitress collected our plates she was very rude and didn't offer and apologies. Sorry The Astley I won't be returning and I don't think many members of our party will be too. Very disappointed.

Sunday buffet was amazing! Large selection of different meats, veg and potatoes. Great list of desserts. Very well priced. Staff could do with being a little more organised. Definitely will be a regular visit.

Food was really good, just a shame about the service! Struggled to get the attention of staff, it wasn’t even busy but we were just left. Had to continuously ask for extra drinks and dessert, that was when you could actually get their attention! The glass saucer my coffee was on was filthy! Also, no gluten free bread.

We’ve been here numerous times for lunch and always left pleased with the food and service. The menu is huge- something for everyone here. We love the chicken jalfrezi and Cajun chicken. Large portions and all home cooked. They also do amazing cheesecakes that you can take away for later (there’s never enough room for dessert!)- we love the biscoff one!

Food portions are big, looks good but didn’t amaze me. Was average and service was okay. It’s ok if your in the area but I wouldn’t come back again.

After a bad experience here on boxing day we chose to give the Astley another try. Big mistake. As usual the staff ignore customers who arrive and have perfected the art of pretending that you do not exist. Some pretty dodgy patrons especially the fat...

I took my Mum for Sunday lunch. We had the carvery at £ 10.95 each. It was a good selection of meats and vegetables. You can go back if you wish for meat & vegetables if you wish. The waitress was friendly. We will go again.

Fairly large party, struggled to get staff's attention. Some of the time they were huddled together at the bar on phones. Had two dirty glasses. Food good and decent portion size but service abysmal. After waiting over 20 minutes for dessert we cancelled and left.

Amazing food here. I have been multiple times and will keep returning. The other pubs within the chain are also amazing but love that The Astley is closer to home for me. Would definitely recommend

went on a date nite,,wont bother again family pub for food n drinks,all kicked off police ambulance ect,,kids crying glass everywhere,,sold drinks to people who had already had more than enough,,young bar staff trying to deal with it with no managment around,,not the best,,was shockex...

First time coming here for Sunday lunch, never know a carvery like it to serve up more than just the usual meat & veg. There's deffinatly something for everyone. Came with my husband who is the fussiest of eaters. Even he had a smile on his face. The food was lovely, the staff were approachable and friendly, the atmosphere was great. I'd highly recommended this place. Thankyou so much for your hospitality today, we will deffinatly be back for more soon.

We often call here when we are visiting family so decided to book for Mum's Birthday. Most of us had the carvery and it would have been lovely if the food had not been cold. There were also issues with the beer being flat. I...

15th December, had a mediocre meal. The veg were served 10 mins after the meat, and as the plates were cold the food also became cold half way through the meal. Desserts ok, however the three lattes that followed were Luke warm. Thankfully that was resolved and hot lattes replaced them. Diners will drift away from this establishment unless things improve.

Today experience not very good Ordered Christmas dinner problems Cold plates Cold food- turkey, gravy, potatoes Vegetables arrived 10 minutes after main course Dessert jam Roly Poly was a mess on the plate and very dry Coffee served cold - replaced with hot ones on request When settling the bill of over £70 was told ‘It was bit of an off day at the Inn!’ Understatement! Will think twice before going back.

Meals fairly expensive for a family tea out, but large and good. We caught the end of the carvery so no roast potatoes left & hard boiled potatoes. Probably good if went earlier in the afternoon with as many visits as you like!
