Aspava Restaurant in Allerdale

Booked a table at another local restaurant. Sat for ten minutes without being acknowledged!! So thankfully we left and ended up here where the food and service were exceptional. So much to choose from on the traditional menu and the house wine was of a good standard. Thank you team we will be back

First visit last night and I was blown away, friendly staff, amazing food served hot and fresh and all meals came together at the same time. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you.

Easily one of the best restaurants in Cumbria. The freshly squeezed orange juice, olives, pickles and lamb chops are just exquisite but everything is good. The baklava are very good and the assorted cakes and sweets available at the neighbouring shop (or in the restaurant) are both beautiful works of art and culinary delights. I’ll be honest though, I like that it is often not too busy, this is the only reason I hesitate to write this review!

An atmospheric upstairs dining room with Turkish lamps and a tree growing from a pot, with a wide range of tasty and authentic food including spiced meats, Mediterranean vegetables dishes and (of course) rich and sweet Baklava for dessert! This felt well worth the money for what was a very pleasant experience in every way, from the attentive and professional service from the Turkish staff to our soft drinks made to traditional recipes (cherry juice and something made from root vegetables). We'd love to return on our next holiday!

I have been several times at various times of day and have never been disappointed with the food, drinks or service. It's been excellent.

Lovely food, definitely worth going

First visit as we were staying in area on holiday. Pre booked on phone found here on Tripadvisor with good ratings. Visited with husband and our autistic sound sensitive daughter. The staff were unbelievable. Attentive, caring, understanding, let us choose our table two floors to choose from. Upstairs although bigger more diners you couldn’t hear the coffee machine as much. The food was sensational. Really good traditional Turkish food with house specialities. Lots to choose from. Great Turkish wines and soft drinks choices. Lovely atmosphere definitely visit again. As they have their own patisserie puddings and Turkish delights a must. Had to take some home. Delicious!!! A fantastic start to our holiday.

THE BEST restaurant in the Lake District by a country mile. The food was exceptional great quality meat cooked to perfection. Will definitely be going back, the mixed grill was 12/10

The restaurant managed to squeeze me and my husband in at the last minute without a booking on a Saturday evening. We were very thankful, saved us traipsing around the town for food. The lady who was working that evening was really friendly as we're all the staff. The food and service was amazing, would absolutely recommend this restaurant. Oh and the Turkish delight was the best we ever tried, we bought a bag to enjoy for later 😋

Having lunch at Aspava was like visiting an old friend. I joked with the owner Mehmet that I would be taking root for half the day while waiting for the local garage to finish with my car, something Mehmet sympathised with; in Cumbria we don't have enough garages (or tradespeople for that matter) so it's not unusual to have to hand ones car over for 4 or 5 hours and then kill some time. Mehmet graciously allowed me to bide my time in his restaurant. For my part I enjoyed a tasty simple humus/pitta starter and the tender succulent mixed grill in the picture, all the meat locally sourced

Never having eaten Turkish before I was a little apprehensive. But didn't need to be. The food was fantastic; marinaded chicken wings so succulent and tasty. Service was very attentive and prompt and, despite a full restaurant, never lacking. Yes, a definite recommendation.

Food was good. Service was terrible as they had a big group in and ignored us. Owner came to apologize then still had to wait another 30 minutes for the the bill. Won't be going back, or recommending. Especially as gobby customer outside stuck his nosey beak in.

We went for dinner and also for Turkish breakfast on the next day.. The food flavour was awesome. We ordered a mix platter, sawarma , Turkish tea, and dessert. The breakfast was outstanding , the quality, the quantity of food was great. I recommend who wants to try the authentic Turkish breakfast to everyone. The staff was great and helpful.

It is a place that we had the opportunity to visit today, with delicious flavors from lahmacun to kebabs that will make you feel like you are in Turkey. The friendly face of the employees, the quality of service and the owners of the place, Mr. Mehmet, were very hospitable. A must-visit place. Our family liked it very much, we recommend it

First time Turkish. Absolutely loved it.

We asked for raspberry cheesecake and got blackcurrant. Didn't make a fuss. However when only ordering tea for one, a latte and two raspberry cheesecakes then getting blackcurrant, I certainly didn't expect a bill of £21.60 Just glad we only had a snack there and not dinner! Shame as I love Turkish food and would have returned. The cafe was clean and tidy and staff friendly and helpful.

Excellent food, very polite waiters, felt very looked after even though I was by myself. The chicken was very tasty, and the flatbreads to start was a lovely gesture. Although definitely on the pricier side, you get what you pay for!

Some of the best Turkish food we’ve eaten. (And we visit Turkey regularly ) Service was faultless and the staff were very friendly We had the sharing platter and it didn’t disappoint It was so good my partner wanted to go back the following night !! Highly recommend, we’ll be back next time in the Lake District

Delicious food and great service. Have eaten here twice now and will certainly come again and again. The food is amazing, all fresh and cooked to perfection with portion sizes that will satisfy. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming and the establishment is immaculate.

We've just enjoyed a lovely dinner here with friends in the upstairs restaurant. Top notch service from Mehmet and his very efficient friendly team. The food was absolutely excellent ..... authentic, top quality ingredients and well cooked [5 Stars!]. The loos were also squeaky clean. I recommend you book in advance, as it was busy on a Wednesday night in October ... which says it all! Not to be missed, if you're eating in Cockermouth.

Came here because of the TripAdvisor ratings and reviews and we were pleased that we did. Decided to go with the £65 meze for two instead of trying to work out ourselves which dishes to choose. Ordered a bottle of wine which was ok (we had one somewhere else the day after at the same kind of price which was much nicer). Oh my goodness - that meat! Beautifully tender and tasty. In fact the whole meal was top notch. We even found (just) room for a pud and a coffee. The only criticism was that the two young kids on the staff both came up separately and asked something along the lines of 'are you guys finished?' while we were still eating. They're obviously inexperienced but they need to stop doing that. No wonder the place was busy and has great reviews, as we really enjoyed it here.

My Husband and I went to Aspava on a Sunday evening whilst we were staying in Cockermouth. We were warmly greeted by the staff who looked after us during our meal. The service from them was wonderful. As for the food absolutely delicious it felt as though we were transported to Turkey. I can highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. Book a table because they are very popular.

Enjoyed an amazing Turkish breakfast, service was quick & very polite. A little difficult to get parked close by , I'd suggest finding a pay and display as street parking is too short to enjoy the delicious food .

Terrible to say but it was our first visit to Aspava, we we're greeted with a lovely warm welcome from owners Mehmet and Tracy and shown to our table. The staff were fantastic explaining the options on the menu and suggesting a really nice bottle of Turkish red wine, food was quick in arriving and was delicious, we had the meze and main set meal for 2, plenty of food for 2 people , but we really wanted one of the amazing desserts we had seen delivered to othe tables!! A honey cake and a chocolate pistachio with 2 turkish coffees later and we were done. A superb evening in lovely surroundings with fantastic food and great service, we will be regulars from now on.

Visited last night, had such a good experience, the food was great and the staff are so lovely and attentive in their service! we are vegan and vegetarian and there are so many options that we can still have, which doesn't often happen :) if you're planning to visit, take cash for tips, as they can't accept these on the card machine and they definitely deserve a tip!

Nice food however the table service was chaotic with no time for any interaction with customers and restaurant had no ambience due to bright lighting and tables too close together….very disappointed

I came here in a big family group of 12. The service was great, the staff were attentive to everyone's needs and the food was honest and tasty. I'd come again.

The place looks great and the service is super everyone is very kind and the chefs are exceptional in ghe kitchen authentic turkish dishes are presented and served with perfection.

Aspava Paisserie is a delight for eyes and taste buds. Lotus cake saved a birthday celebration and the service was knowledgable, polite and friendly. Boxed cake to survive even the rockiest road.

Nipped in for some of the decent looking desserts. Got two to takeaway, but very disappointed, it was way overpriced for what they were. The taste was very bland, didn't taste of much at all, definitely not worth £6 each. A bit of a shame as a local I won't be going again. Would have been better off spending £2 on a box of Mr Kipling's.

Tried to get in this restaurant yesterday but it wasn’t possible as fully booked so we came back again today, so happy we did very impressed with the food Halil was a wonderful waiter. Tomorrow is our last day in Cockermouth and we are already planning to come back for dinner ✅

RUDE STAFF!! What an experience. Me and my Turkish girlfriend came in to eat. We have been shocked by the prices but decided to proceed anyways due to the good ratings and we said we will not drink anything to save some money. My girlfriend ordered in Turkish and it took longer than usual and I asked what's going on as I don't speak Turkish. She said our waiter was insisting to order drinks and she said we will not as these prices are too much. From this point it was a nightmare. 6-8 Turkish man stood in the kitchen talking and staring at us... They brought the food, it was less than average. The lamb chops was very chewy and the rice tasteless. We said nothing... A short and chubby man was staring at me and showed me rude hand gestures and said "I'm the chef" and went into the kitchen 🤷🏻 okay... so I know who ruined our food 😅 This place is a daytime robbery where CHICKEN WINGS costs £21 🤣like how? Really great find casual find in Cockermouth, generous portions, lovely staff, and great Turkish flavours. It is great that they are open on Mondays when many places in Cockermouth are shut!

What a remarkable find in Cockermouth. Very hungry after some lake swimming and found Aspava to be the perfect remedy. Couple of lovely starters from the hot & cold meze selection followed by chicken kebab and lamb ribs. Food was consistently fantastic - I would genuinely travel from Leeds to eat those ribs again! Lovely staff - a wonderful evening. Thanks all.

Great food, service, atmosphere and location. Restaurant gets very full even in the week - booking advisable. Parking free after 6pm.

Staying nearby and Brewers Fayre pub attached to Premier Inn stopped food service before 9pm (ridiculous) so literally googled somewhere in Cockermouth and found Aspava, what a gem of a find, great food and not expensive. You honestly won’t go wrong if you like Turkish food. I just wish there was one of these near to me at home.

Food was ok but way overpriced and poor service

A very pleasant, friendly place to eat, with a varied menu. Spotlessly clean too. We really enjoyed our mixture of hot and cold food, washed down with Turkish beer. Everything was fresh and tasty, and the portions were huge! Excellent value. Highly recommended.

Excellent Turkish cuisine & their own patisserie next door too. Went for a very tasty breakfast platter, filled with a variety of tasty delicacies, with vegetarian options for my partner. Staff are extremely pleasant, attentive and helpful. Refreshing Turkish tea and coffee too. Some delicious treats available too and cakes made to order.

Well on arrival we got complimentary bread no dips ( we had to pay extra for thrm) Wasn't even given a plate Our waiter was very rude saying that the owner was very polite and so was the young lady But sorry I won't go back there

what a gem - we went here to celebrate a birthday and they were very good to us - Saturday night and the place was very busy, so make sure you book! Proper Turkish food in the style that will be familiar to anyone who has been there! The owner and staff are all very friendly.

Our pick of the Cockermouth restaurants. Came for dinner and returned for the excellent breakfasts. For dinner we had the mixed grill and it was all cooked very well with nice chilli sauce. The bread is freshly baked and delicious. The desserts on display when you walk in are also very tempting. We tried most of them and I loved the cinnamon and apple tart. The decor is tidy here, very clean and new. The service is friendly from the owner and staff. They clearly have a hard working kitchen too. The breakfasts should be tried too. The cold platter is more of a continental breakfast option. We also had the hot breakfasts which at £14 are amazing value and more akin to a Turkish brunch. Great place this and it won’t let you down.

Stunning flavoursome food for all. Two vegan and two meat eaters

Absolutely lovely place to eat. The staff looked after us brilliantly and the food was delicious. It's also one of the only restaurants in the area that is open on Sunday, which was handy for us! Clearly marked veggie and vegan options too, which was much appreciated. Just remember to take some cash to tip, as they don't accept tips on card.

Staying few days in Cockermouth so tried this restaurant Aspava for an evening meal, just me & my husband. Friendly atmosphere, all staff very attentive, premises clean, service very good. FOOD was excellent!! Good size portions. Prices reasonable. Thankyou for making a special occasion - SPECIAL! Certainly recommend the restaurant.

Went for mums 90th celebration as it’s her favourite place and it was superb as usual, the food is amazing and the staff are so accommodating and attentive without being intrusive, totally recommend this place and the pistachio cake is sublime!!!!

Been three times, once for Turkish breakfast and twice in evening- love the food , waiter explains choices/ ingredients and gives recommendations. Really flavoursome food, very clean and can see chefs doing the cooking when sitting downstairs - definitely worth a visit. Also have patisserie range which looks delicious but haven't yet tried

A brilliant Turkish restaurant in the heart of the high street. Again, like with other restaurants you need to book in advance. A very spacious restaurant. You walk past the kitchen and you can see your food being prepared! Amazing. Very upmarket and I’d recommend dressing accordingly. Fresh, quality ingredients used throughout and all served piping hot. The wait staff and other staff are very friendly and helpful. Prices similar to London but this is quality therefore worth it. Wouldn’t hesitate to return!

We had very good coffee here and the Honey cake (home made) was really tasty, also turkish pistacio slice was seriously wonderful. Very helpful friendly staff, highly recommend. When back in the area will come here for a full meal for sure.
