£3.15 for a granary loaf! £5 for a pack if very dry welsh cakes. As a local keen to support local businesses, won't be going again. The cakes looked amateurish and dry.

Visited today and bought a selection of cakes. Belgium buns muffins custard tarts The Belgium buns were not just undercooked but raw inside. I haven’t eaten the other cakes yet! This is the second time recently that I have bought undercooked cakes here, I rang the shop to complain but they were not particularly concerned. I insisted they take my details so that I can return for a refund. Sick of paying for poor quality. Some of the products on display looked overcooked/burned

I have not been here for ages and Askews is now Maiflour Bakery. So much better than my last visit, which was very lacklustre. A helpful staff member invited us to bring our dog inside rather than sit outside in the cold. Splendid traditional pasties and a 5star latte, so we were very happy. A wonderful range of home made cakes and pastries on display - the almond croissant I took back home with me was the best I have had outside France. A brisk trade at the counter and the handful of tables indicates the popularity of this great cafe.

We was in crickhowell village as we were visiting dentist. We popped into Mailflour Bakery/Andrews to get a drink & a bite to eat for my grandaughter & I was discriminated against & challenged because I have asthma & unable to wear a mask. I was told to leave the shop.So be aware this bakery discriminates people & I will be reporting to relevant departments. So if you are exempt from wearing a mask avoid this shop.

Anyone visiting Crickhowell must not miss going into Askews Bakery.....Its amazing the counter, which stretches the full length of the shop is packed with every kind of cake and savoury item you can imagine, from homemade apple pies to eccles cakes, and 5he custard slices are to die for.It was very different visiting this time, due to the restrictions because of the vivid virus,no seating for coffee etc was allowed. Usually there is a shopful of customers, but now only three are allowed in at a time. The staff work quickly and with a smile.Back to base to eat my cakes!

Sadly the staff at Askews let down the friendly reputation of Crickhowell. The staff at the rest of the Crickhowell high street shops always seem welcoming, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately Askews' staff are unwelcoming, unfriendly and appear rude in their abruptness. This would, perhaps, be forgivable if they are rushed off their feet with customers waiting for service, but the times I have encountered this has been when they have appeared to be quiet. I leave feeling that I have been a nuisance to them. They do not seem to comprehend the concept that a customer needs time to choose what they want to buy and if they were to readily allow for this they would probably sell more produce. As it was I felt that I couldn't choose fast enough and they wanted me to leave, despite only having been there about 2 minutes! Why aren't the management doing something about improving their staff's attitudes and customer service skills? I see that a 2019 review also commented on staff rudeness! Come on Askews - get your act together and in-line with the other lovely businesses in Crickhowell.

In the last year I have visited family in Crickhowell several times and explored the charming village where everyone seems incredibly friendly and welcoming. During several visits to Askew's I was struck by how unwelcoming their staff have been. Whilst admiring the array of food on offer myself and family members have been consistently made to feel as though we are irritations by several members of staff who came across as brusque and borderline rude. We were questioned a couple of times by staff and felt that we were taking too long over choice (2 minutes maximum) and ought to have been able to tell which assistant was waiting for us to take our order. Disgust was shown by staff when I asked to see the amount on the card machine before paying the dues.Sadly I believe this is likely a culture at this business (see other reviews - they possibly missed the customer service and interaction training days) which is a great shame given their food is usually excellent!Continue to go here for food however be aware you'll potentially leave feeling annoyed; they've lost my money.

The most adorable family run bakery and what a fantastic selection of bakery goods, I don’t think there’s anything I wouldn’t want to try, they have a massive selection and brilliant value for money. My personal favourites are the custard slices and doughnuts and ........ my husband says it’s the best batten-burgh he’s ever had. Like a lot of shops in Crickhowell it’s the local personal touch that makes all the difference and it’s so nice not to have any bigger brands there

What a lovely bakery. All produce freshly made on site, with a great smell as you walk in. The choice was crazy, traditional and modern baking treats. We had a wedge of brownie and custard slice, after a warm sausage roll. Nice pick me up after a decent walk on the hillside, extremely generous portions and friendly counter staff.

Had some lovely bread from this bakery whilst we stayed in Crickhowell. They have a marvellous range of cakes and pastries but I did wonder how they could get through much produce. \i would say that it can't all be fresh each day. |The millionaire's shortbread that we had one day definitely stale. Reading the favourable reviews from other contributors, my wife and I decided to call here for lunch as part of a day trip out. I have to agree that this is an excellent choice for a light lunch. Being a bakery meant that our sandwiches were really fresh and we also picked some cakes from the large display on offer. The coffee was of a good standard and everything was very reasonably priced and the service friendly and efficient. Note that there are no toilets at this establishment, but there are clean facilities at the tourist office two minutes walk away.

The last month three out of the four orders have had items missing. So today on the third occasion I went back into the store to ask for the missing item to only be told in a very rude manner I must purchase the item again!! This is appalling customer service for a mistake that the customer services assistant made. Our office will not be returning.

I Searched on Google for places open in Brecon at the time we were there, This looked good in images with a menu to suit us, so we went in, Almost immediately realised the menu I read on line with photos, was for food in packets pre made and warmed up not fresh prepared, Cold sausage panini cold bacon in paninis, cheese and mushroom on toast pre made, in a fridge wrapped in plastic packets did not scream quality, bit like costa food, all to be warmed up or re heated was not what I hoped or indeed bought, re heated bacon or re heated sausage did not inspire me. Instead, we had a coffee and a hot chocolate which were good, and a Croissant and Pan au Chocolate and were really only...OK. The building is interesting and full of character lovely in fact with a lot of effort with great design. But the lack of on premises prepared food of the type we went in to buy, the lack of cleanliness of building with dirty windows with cobwebs decorating the corners of where we sat, broken light fitting above us and others with many dead insects inside did little to impress. We felt like we interrupted the staff by ordering food, who were deep in conversation with each other when we came in and continued deep in conversation while we ordered. We were hungry and thirsty, so we had something to eat and drink to tide us over. Such a shame with a beautiful building nicely decorated full of style. Look like someone had made a lot of effort setting up this business but not day to day running of it. If in Brecon I would suggest looking around at others as there are many, as the online image of this did not match reality in many areas. Or at least on the day we visited. We a little later ate elsewhere in Brecon which was all fine. Maybe we just arrived on a bad day.

Travelled from south wales on our only child free weekend to recieve a terrible service! Arrived at 3:30 and the hot tub was freezing cold from the moment we got there! Tried to blame us for taking the lid off that it wasnt warm! Bed was unmade with no bottom sheet. Did not recieve an email with terms and conditions about bbq’s on the grass which id say having signs for people to see no bbq’s on the grass would be more obvious! Tried to fine us 100£ for the grass and 200£ for leaves being in the hot tub when i dont understand how you can avoid that if your in the hot tub most of the day/night with trees surrounding your pod! Just another excuse! We didn’t get the chance to use the hot tub! Filled us with excuses from the moment we got there promised the hot tub would be warm by 9 and then it went to theyll empty and refill with warm water instead, but that didnt happen! Also ignored any repsonsibility to answer our questions on when the hot tub would be useable! Could have saved ourselves £120 and stayed at home in our garden! Our third stay there and thats our thanks! Would not recommend or return!
