We have eaten in this restaurant for many years and have never had a poor meal until last evening. The food was tasteless and lacked any real spice or flavour. Disappointing to say the least!!

BYOB. Dropped into the Spar (100yds down road) and picked a four pack of Cobra. Service was great, food was really good. Great selection (generous portions) of dips for the popadoms. I had my standard lamb jalfrezi, pilau rice and garlic naan. The jalfrezi was tasty with a bit of heat, but not ridiculous like some are. Generous portion of meat in the curry too. Definitely recommend idm you are looking for a curry in Bridgend.

The guys in the Ashoka are so nice and helpful. I turned up there Saturday night, admittedly drunk, but they let me order their fabulous Shashliks, and they sorted out a taxi for me. Not only is their food wonderful, but they look after people as well, I really appreciate what they did for me. They are a wonderful asset to Bridgend.

My birthday so my wife decided to book Ashoka for 4 of us, never been before. The restaurant itself was very pleasant the waiters were very courteous things we're looking up. The food arrived poppadoms to start. good chutney tray better than my usual restaurant , then the main dishes. My food was ok in itself but it was Luke warm which spoiled everything I had to eat it as soon as possible while there was still some heat in it this is very poor the others didn't comment and I didn't ask them whether theirs was hot enough so for me I shall never return and cannot recommend the restaurant for meals.

I’m rating this on price and quality of food. First off the price for a takeaway is staggering but hey ho if the food is awesome why not pay the extra? The food tonight was average and the chips weren’t cooked and hard in the middle? It seems to be hit and miss however with the prices they change it should be spot on every time no ifs no buts!!I think if I had that in there restaurant I would have sent it back.Hopefully they will read this and do something or lose customers Over to you Ashoka

Totally over rated! Food quality average and so over priced, London prices in Bridgend!Staff not attentitive once served.Paid cash, had to remind waiter for my £6 odd change. This was once a great place to eat but unfortunately they have taken their finger off the pulse and forgot what they were once good at, food and service!! Take your hard earnt cash elsewhere in Bridgend for better Indian cuisine and great service at a fraction of the cost.In a nutshell, if your sober and looking for an authentic indian experience with great tasting food and appreciative staff try elsewhere in Bridgend.

As much as I have previously loved the food, I think they are compromising on the quality of the meat but still charging top prices. We had a lamb dish was was very chewy & not enjoyable. The chicken dish consisted of chicken cubes in a lot of sauce but the chicken tasted ‘stale’ and leftover from a previous night. The starters of meat samosas & onion bhaji were very good. It’s a shame if Ashoka let their standards & quality drop as people will change their loyalty. We are sorry to say that we will try somewhere else for good quality Indian food☹️

Tried Ashoka for the first time last night after reading and hearing good reviews, but hadn’t as it’s more expensive than other local Indians. Initially found the prawn puri starter to be stodgy and not as flavoursome as others we’ve had elsewhere. Main disappointment was the lamb tikka masala which as another reviewer found didn’t look similar to the many others I’ve had over the years but was equally flavourless. My Wifes chicken makhani, rice and naan were good though. Upshot is we won’t be using Ashoka again.

We ordered the same main dish one chicken tikka masala and one vegetable masala. They both came out looking like totally different curries, fine I thought, they look nice though, I was wrong. The “chef” somehow managed to remove all the spice and flavour you expect from Indian food and create the blandest tasteless things we’ve ever had, imaging being able to chew warm fresh air and you’ve nailed it. This wasn’t the worst part, didn’t bother with a dessert, got ice cubes at home for free. The bill came... I’m pleased I was sat down at the time, incredibly expensive. Please don’t visit this restaurant, I very regularly eat out at home and abroad and never tasted such expensive bland food in all my life. AVOID

Our second visit to ashoka in two weeks and once again not disappointed. Walked in absolutely hank marvin' starvin', and although busy a smiling waiter managed to accommodate. Nice cold bottle of cobra to start the evening-got to be done with a good Indian aye. A lovely waiter came over to take our order, I asked for a phaal; not on the menu but happy days they would make it, then to the waiters horror my other half ordered a passanda (he's a new level of wimp when it comes to spicy food, perhaps we need couples counselling as I simply cannot continue with a coconut-curry-eater). Both came our fast to my delight. I was so hungry this day that I was drooling on to my lovely folded napkin and hallucinating-the waiter was beginning to look like a poppadom. But yes anyway the curries arrive, piping hot and delicious, chicken tender and sauce hotter than lava, mm. My wimp of an other half said his passanda was also delicious- he thought he'd stepped up in the curry game from a korma..dear oh dear. Overall a smashing meal, will return. Work this morning was a difficult quest after giving my toilet a post-phaal battering. Thank you Ashoka bridgend, we shall be returning for more! Would recommend.

Had a takeaway from here today and was shocked when I picked it up to find that it was nearly £30 for 2 mains, chips, rice, onion bhajis, and a naan bread. I think those prices are way above the average Indian takeaway so I was expecting food to match it. Unfortunately I was disappointed. While I don't really have a bad word to say about the food, I would expect a lot better from the #1 Indian in the area.My chicken dhansak was more spicy than anything else and had a bit of an unwelcome, sour taste (this lentil based dish is supposed to be hot and sweet). As for my partners tandoori masala it was unnaturally red in colour which to me suggests a lot of food colouring and very, very oily, to the point where I dipped a chip in and it came out completely free from any of the sauce and just coated with oil. The chips are really white rank too. Crispy on the outside and kinda mushy in the centre. The rice was quite nice and the yoghurt and mint was probably the highlight. I could taste the fresh mint that had been used to prepare it. The onion bhajis were ok but very large and I think this meant that in order to ensure they were cooked all the way through, the outside was almost burned, although I have to say they did go down well. The naan was a little unusual because the mixed fruit was on top in a pizza style rather than inside the bread. All in all I was disappointed with my meal and I won't be returning.

I asked for an off menu main course which was just a combination of two dishes that were on the menu, so a half lamb, half chicken mixed Dhansak. This is normally no problem at an Indian but not a choice here. The started was a prawn puri dish, the puri bread was rock hard and I suspect it was not cooked fresh, but perhaps warmed up for too long in a microwave as that is how it seemed. The prawn sauce was ok but nothing special. The main dish was a large portion but seemed quite watery compared to what I am used to (I did debate whether it was not fresh but a defrosted portion, something I will never know I guess) it was not the most flavoursome murgh masala I have ever had but it was OK. The chilli naan bread was nice and obviously fresh. The price was average at £19.50 without drinks and all I can say is the meal was average to match.

I opted for the Kingfisher which came in a 660ml bottle. The Cobra in 330ml. The price difference was only just over a £1 :)Poppadoms with the side dishes ordered and on the table quickly. Spiced onions weren't the best I have to admit but everything else was very tasty.Vegetable pakora to start with. We shared the main which we opted for the Chicken Tikka Garlic Chilli with a side portion of fresh chillis. Garlic nan bread and basmati rice. Portion size was enough for two of us. All clean plates at the end of the meal. Very tasty food indeed.Hot fresh wipes to cleanse our hands with an after eight mint to follow.Reasonably priced. Will definitely be back again.

Called in with my family last night, no reservation but we managed to get a table. This place is busy all the time. Drinks ordered we had starters and the the mains, the food was fresh hot and delicious. All the portions are large and you won't be hungry. I had the mixed grill and it was excellent. My son did not know what to have and one of the waiters. Ash recommend a lamb dish that he loved. Great staff great food at a great price. Will be calling in a gain soon.

This place looks and sounds impressive when you consider the menu but it's far from it. I had the chicken Bhuna and my partner had the vegetable biryani. I had this on Sunday 21 May 2017 and I'm still ill now. My partner thought hers was horrible and didn't finish it. The chicken had clearly been sat around for a while as it was extremely tough. It has great ratings which attracted me at first but having had my experience I really wouldn't recommend going anywhere near his place.

Me and my ''WHOLE'' Family enjoyed a nice and relaxing Indian at Momtaj, First of is that somehow they had enough Space to fit all 24 of us in whilst not being squashed, My starter was sooo good that I had to order seconds!, The meal that I had was delicious it was the ''Railway lamb curry'', ''The whole meal was to a breathtaking experience.'' "Superb food and atmosphere, serving staff were great too, very enjoyable evening" ''I will defo be going back to momtaj'' For 24 of us it only came to £267 without the drinks because my cousin Joni bought the drinks for us on the night

The free poppadom offer is a con - added extra to our order to bring the price over ths £28 limit but no poppadoms! Ordered paneer masala and veg makhani but it was just makhani sauce for both with different things in it. Sickly sweet and grim.
