This was the first time I visited this place. On arrival, we found out you could only order from the Christmas menu, which is very limited. The quality of the food was very poor, and what you would expect from a budget cafe and the serving sizes were small. No matter what main course you ordered, you got the same roast potatoes and veg to share !!! Even a choice of new potatoes would have been better. If you just want a low end meal then this is for you.

4 of us booked the French evening. Four courses for £30 so excellent value. Onion soup, sweet and delicious , a choice of 3 starters, mains and desserts. My starter was scallops, juicy and plump. A main course of halibut left me almost too replete to tackle the tarte au citron, but I managed to squeeze it in. Everything beautifully presented and efficiently served.

I phoned yesterday to book a table for lunch for my wife and I today. Wonderful friendly greeting on the phone was matched with friendly yet professional greeting in person. The french onion soup was better than anything in France. The pork loin had an excellent farmer to match the brilliant butcher who delivered tender and succulent meat to Ashmores' amazing chef. All in all an excellent lunch at our leisure

Sunday Lunch at Ashmores is always good - delicious home-cooked meals without the washing up. Proper food made with love and care, and quality ingredients. I've been to this family-run restaurant numerous times and it's always a lovely experience; from the warm greeting when you walk through the door until you say goodbye, and they make an amazing Sunday roast! The goats-cheese & pumpkin soup starter looked and tasted scrumptious. The roast beef was cooked perfectly - super tender, served with a generous helping of all the trimmings and the baked vanilla cheesecake & profiterole desserts were seriously delicious. Great food, great atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. It's a real all-rounder. My Mum already booked a return visit to celebrate a 'big' birthday in December.

We were invited to Ashmores for a friend's birthday. There were about 20 of us. We were served promptly and the food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, fresh and flavoursome. The waiting staff were smartly dressed, efficient and super friendly. I had melon for starter, chicken breast in red wine sauce for mains and raspberry bavarois. Everything was amazing!!! The melon and berries were so fresh. As my main course arrived I could smell the red wine sauce - soooo good. The raspberry bavarois - light and full of raspberries. It was heavenly. We loved the restaurant too, well spaced out (not crammed in) and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely be going back when we visit friends, sadly we do not live in Nottingham.

Ashmore's was my husband's favourite restaurant, as we had always enjoyed excellent food and service. Therefore, when he very sadly passed away recently, it was the most suitable venue to hold his Wake. It was attended by about 44 people and everyone commented on how delicious and substantial the finger buffet was. Mr and Mrs Ashmore provided an excellent atmosphere and all the staff were very attentive and sensitive to everyone's needs given the occasion. I should like to thank Mr and Mrs Ashmore and staff for making the event so special considering the very sad circumstances. Pat and family.

Two friends and I enjoyed our fish evening at my favourite restaurant, Ashmores. The scallops were perfect and the monkfish was beautifully cooked and presented. We could not resist being tempted by the choice of sweets. I would have loved the chocolate pudding but chose the lighter bavarois. The meal was excellent value for money and the service was superb. I am pleased that the restaurant has reopened again after lockdown ....I have missed it so much.

Another birthday.....another excellent meal. The Christmas menu has such a variety that it was hard to choose. Thinking that I must leave room for a sweet I chose the very delicious melon for starter then the pork with chestnuts which really complemented this dish. Super roast potatoes and a good selection of vegetables really made a lovely main course. I chose the really moist Christmas pudding knowing that I am always too full on Christmas day. No fuss from arrival to being seated at our table. Menu varied and interesting dishes. A fairly good selection of wine too. Pricing is fair although many items carry a supplement.Service intervals were well spaced and all flowed smoothly. The food wasn't bad, the mussels were actually rather good. The problem was with the main courses, especially venison and lobster, both very dry and somewhat over-cooked. The duck was also rather heavy going but in fairness one guest certainly stated "no pink".We slipped in conversation that this was the 21st weekend of our youngest party member and they brought an extra candle sweet along for her, all very calm.

This is maybe our third or fourth visit here - this time for their twice-yearly Steak Night special menu. Prices exactly the same as two years ago - you can't say that for many places! Our 'special request' for a table position was remembered and acted on. Again, the decor is a bit 'old' with wedding-type chair covers; nice linen tablecloths - but paper serviettes. The gent's loo still has tables stacked up in it. Mainly an older clientele - younger customers don't know what they are missing! Good, short menu, with range of steaks (rib eye, rump, fillet) duck breast and lamb rump - and sea bass for non meat-eaters. Great prices - three courses (with the fillet) for only £25. All courses were very palatable, and quantities were excellent. We had a slight problem with one steak - cooked just a little too medium for the 'medium-rare on the rare side' requested. They could not have been more helpful, instantly taking it back and, short wait, changed it. They even offered a complimentary drink to apologise, which (not taken up!) was really appreciated. Maybe the only poor point was that everyone was crowded into just half of the restaurant. It made it look fuller, and we weren't really on top of each other - but maybe a little more space would have been nice; you could easily hear conversations from other tables. Very friendly, cheerful and helpful waitresses. I've noticed, too, that management has started to acknowledge and respond to Tripadviser reviews - a really good PR move. Especially if I have had a poor experience, I do appreciate some comment from the restaurant by way of explanation or apology, so well done! Definitely a place to return to - again and again.

The first impression is that this traditional dining room is rather over-dressed for a lunch service, although I guess it would be fine for dinner. The ubiquitous cream colour scheme does seem somewhat bland and old fashioned, but its not unpleasant and is obviously a hit with some customers. The staff are very smiley and welcoming, although they could have taken more interest in our reactions to the food itself. Our pate and garlic bread starters were good and we both really enjoyed them. The fried salmon main course was also very pleasant, but the squash and nut risotto was swimming in excess stock, which is just careless. Vegetarians should not assume without asking that this dish is the usual single concession to veggies - it includes parmesan cheese, which itself can never be veggie. On a more positive note, I disagree with the review from a young man who thought the red cabbage dish was too reminiscent of the 1980s, (apparently around the time he was just a babe in arms!). Ours included lovely, succulent raisins and was topped with a gentle citrus dressing, making it interesting and quite delicious.Whilst for me this restaurant doesn't get the hysterical plaudits of some reviewers, it is better than "Average" and is also quite well priced, so its well worth a try.

Whenever we are persuaded to go here for family events there is always RED CABBAGE! This has not changed in 10+ years. Neither has the decor to be honest - it looks like a nursing home. This place needs to modernise or risk going under as the captive audience of 80+ somethings die off.Our family group found that the service deiminished throughout the service - plates passed over other guests around the table to us rather than being served correctly. If you are under 80 years of age then avoid this place!

A group of 66 of us from our rambling group had the most fantastic Christmas meal here - ever! The food, service and ambience were second to none and the whole team did a fantastic job in looking after us. Jo was delightful to deal with and really helped in setting up the whole event. Excellent value for money and our group is already saying they want to go back there next year!

We had such a lovely meal last night, we both opted for the Christmas turkey dinner and it was incredible. You can tell all the food is homemade, absolute quality. Couldn't say enough positive things about this restaurant. Lovely atmosphere too. Thanks a lot.

If you are ever in Radcliffe on Trent book a table at Ashmores. It is well worth it. The food is always hot when served up including the vegetables served up piping hot in hot tureens - the waitresses are always warning to be careful as the serving dishes are hot. To me this is the sigh of a good restaurant knowing that your food is well cooked. There is always a good choice and the desserts are fabulous making it difficult to choose. The staff are pleasant and helpful and there is a small bar with good selection of wines spirits beers, ciders and soft drinks. I have frequented the restaurant numerous times and never been disappointed. Radcliffe on Trent is very fortunate to have this facility.

Visited Ashmores for a sunday lunch, it was perfect. We we greeted with a very warm welcome and a menu which i could of had anything from. The portions were outstanding for the price you pay its great, free unlimited bread, which is rare at restaurants now a days. 3 courses for £14.95 absolute bargain. Ashmores is a traditional english restaurant which is limited in nottingham. Keep it up.

What a gem!A visit to this family run restaurant is indeed a pleasure. It has a varied menu which changes regularly, with 2/3 course options for both lunch and dinner. Speciality evenings are held regularly. These include French, Italian, Game, Tapas etc. The food is cooked well and presented attractively. A comprehensive and realistically priced wine list is available. The service is efficient and friendly, so a visit guarantees an enjoyable experience.Since finding this gem we are regular visitors.A visit during the summer months is always a treat for me, as on the menu is lobster thermidor or cold lobster with salad. The price includes a strawberry dessert. Brilliant value and glorious food! Pre booking is not essential but advisable.Last night's French themed dinner of 4courses, coffee and a glass of wine for £25 was superb value and well worth travelling miles to partake in.Keep up the good work Ashmores!

A Friend and myself have recently visited Ashmores and we finally gave the summer Lobster promotion a go!!! (Unfortunately it has now ended). We have been going to the restaurant for many years, eating both lunch and dinners, which are always wonderful, and at a great value for money!! Ashmores for a few years now have been doing a summer Lobster promotion and we thought we better go and see what it is like… WOW – that’s all I can say!! It was delicious. I had the cold lobster salad, which was with avocado, mango and a lovely lime mayonnaise whereas my friend had the hot one, thermidor, which was served with a brandy, mustard, and cheese sauce - it was to die for!!! Both of us had 1/2 a lobster, which was £15.50 each including new Potatoes with a sprinkle of fresh mint, and to finish were strawberries and jelly with ice cream, the presentation was wonderful! Overall we had a lovely lunch at a great price and delicious food!! We will definitely be returning for lots of other tasty meals and especially next year for the summer lobster promotion.

We visited Ashmore's for the third time this year to experience their pudding and starter evening. It was great as always. 7 choices each of both starter and desert and you could choose any 4 in any order. A great night out with a difference. The food was really well presented and tasty. Great value for money. Can't wait for our visit in December for the Christmas menu. Really recommend this restaurant if you have not tried it before. Always a friendly welcome and superb food.

Not quite a hidden gem as this restaurant is well located in the centre of Radcliffe-on-Trent, just off the A52, but it's offers great food at a great price. Whilst it's possibly the opposite of trendy, this is it's appeal. You visit for the food, not the decor! Great British food at a good price - we actually visited on a Italian evening - not entirely sure where Italy featured (apart from the antipasti - which was nice - infact every course was nice - well presented and altogether very good.£130 for four people, four excellent courses, two bottles of wine. Therefore very good value. Friendly service. We will return.

My wife and I visited Ashmores for our wedding anniversary on 1st April 2016. It was a special menu based on fish. Every course was special from the mackerel pate amuse Boucher, the chowder, the starter - I had king prawns pan fried with chorizo, and then roast cod. The dessert was Apple and sultana with ice cream and cream. Finishing with coffee I was so full! The whole meal was excellent, and complemented by a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon blanc. Can't wait to visit again for the excellent food, attentive service and good value evening out

We have been enjoying meals at Ashmores for many years, having certain birthdays etc in this establishment. Always a warm welcome and the food just brilliant...but that is not the case now. We usually have Christmas Lunch at Ashmores and to be honest it has been very good but this year, cool welcome, shoved into a corner table and to top it the glass of Prosecco was quite a time before it came to the table. It was so awful we did not drink it and thought if this is the best they could do they should not have served it. Service was slow - starter for me was the best part of the meal. The turkey was so evenly cut it obviously was a prepacked jobbie, the vegetables were just awful what there was of them and my Cheese Board came straight out of the fridge ...solid cheese, solid butter and very cold plates. Cannot say much more really but will say this is the last time we will eat at this particular Restaurant. Also, must say, employing staff from the Village is not really a good idea as we, in particular, felt very uncomfortable. All I can say it is such a shame Clive is not in attendance there due to ill health and both Chris and I would like to wish him a speedy recovery.

This was my first visit to Ashmores and I was pleasantly surprised. It doesn't look much from the outside and the decor is rather old fashioned. However the food was excellent and the service second to none with friendly staff. It was a very relaxed atmosphere.I had 3 courses which is unusual for me as I usually just have a main or dessert but as the food on the menu was the kind of food I liked I decided to have all 3. I had a melon starter in a fruit coulis and I think I had venison for my main course which was delicious, followed by a chocolate dessert. The portions were just right. It was quite a drive from where we live but was definitely worth it. Will be back again.

Not especially auspicious from the outside and slightly old fashioned inside - not a bad point in the respect that it is a change to have crisp, clean table cloths nowadays. The lunch menu was slightly limited and the service a tad on the slow side but the food was fine if not exceptional. Worth the detour but we would not have found the place had friends not recommended it and we'd been in the area at the time.

I recently held an early 80th birthday celebration at Ashmores. Mark, the chef, very kindly cooked my favourite dish of Scallops. They were superb, served with crispy bacon and very well presented. A good selection of fresh vegetables were included in the price, which is unusual, as similar standard restaurants in the area charge extra for vegetables. As I love shellfish, I chose the mussels cooked in wine, garlic and cream for my starter. They, too, were delicious. At the moment, they have special offers of Lobster and strawberries OR Mussels and frites I shall be going there for a meal again soon before the shellfish offers end.Keep up the good work Ashmores we are so fortunate to have you in the village.

I spent ten days in Radcliffe on Trent this month and had three lovely meals at Ashmores again. The restaurant is comfortable and (unlike many restaurants these days) had pristine white tablecloths on each occasion - that really adds to the enjoyment of the occasion. The choice of starters, main courses and desserts was wide, interesting and tempting. The food was beautifully cooked and the presentation and service were excellent. I was surprised that they could offer such fare at the prices quoted, as well as offering two or three course tariffs.I wish that I lived nearer than 162 miles from Nottingham as I would be a frequent diner there.

We called in here on spec driving back from Nottingham around 8.30 mid-week, and needed a nice meal to round off a pleasant day at the tennis - we were looking for something more than a standard pub chain, and came across Ashmores which looked interesting. The visit started with trying to look at a menu outside (what sort of dining, what sort of price) - but it was really hard to work anything out - there was a 'newsletter menu' in the window, small print, covering the year from Jan to August - and the fact they were closed early June - so we were trying to work out, now, if they were even open! Went inside, looked a bit plush and expensive, and asked to see menu and if still open - they'd need to check with kitchen, as it was a 'specials night' and they only had two (largeish) parties in, who were well into their meals. Yes, able to stay open for us; special menu (a sea bass and a chicken dish, hardly steak!) and three or so steaks. There was a price alongside each meal. We orders prawn cocktail and the fillet steaks - my wife and I are diametrically opposite, she wanted medium rare on the rare side, I wanted well done on the shoe leather side...Prawn cocktails came, perfectly nice, though maybe slightly small and insipid looking prawns, nicely garnished. Wife had a glass of an excellent Merlot. The steaks were faultless - they came with individual choices of around five different sauces. Large portion of shoestring chips, peas and mushrooms accompanied. For desserts we had a semifredo and a vacherin (which my wife thought had slightly tart or sour taste, but which I found beautifully sour, so we ended up swapping most of our desserts, and both enjoyed them! Coffee and mint to finish off. We expected the bill to be quite considerable, assuming we were paying the advertised price for the steak, and that the starter and dessert were extra - but they were included as a fixed price 3-course menu, varying only slightly according to the main dish that was ordered. So a total cost of £55, including the wine and coke, was a good end to the day. We saw other 'specials menus', all around £20/£25 per person for three courses, and on this basis would be hard pushed to fault this place. A recent gourmet fish even (can't think of a gourmet evening without think about Faulty Towers!) was £25, and included option of half-lobster thermidor as a main, and scallops and king prawn starter.Decor (and the chairs, especially), was a bit 'wedding party'; maybe a few too many tables in the restaurant - I think would be better to have more space between them, and to cater, normally, for around half the number of covers they offer; the (large) men's loo was filled with a couple of old spare tables, but hey, you go for the food! A place to return to, definitely, and would definitely recommend this location. Check out their website (www.ashmoresrestaurant.com) and see the Specials nights - Fish, Italian, Vegetarian, French, Tapas - the list goes on... It was an older crowd on the evening we went there, but don't let that put you off!

After moving from Radcliffe 8 years ago, revisited for mothers day whilst visiting family and so very glad I did. We were welcomed warmly from the friendly staff who were very attentive even with the restaurant being completely full, they could not do enough for you! The menu was very appealing, I had the sea bass cooked to perfection the standards are the same from when we were living back in the village which is really impressive. Finally to mention the desserts me and my wife both had the apple and sultana pudding with butterscotch sauce, licked the bowl clean absolutely delicious, cannot fault the place, keep it up!!

We have been visiting this restaurant for about fifteen years as it is convenient for the more "genteel" members of the family who can not walk far. The veg on offer seems never to have changed - Christmas dinner after Christmas dinner has been graced with red cabbage, peas, carrots and boiled potatoes, as have meals at other times of the year. Last week was the final straw - three different meals ordered, all sharing the same veg - red cabbage, peas, carrots and boiled potatoes (and joy of joys, broccoli)! As for putting boiled onions with salmon, what is the cook thinking of? Mistook them for leeks, perchance. The sauce was excellent, but again, the same sauce for two different dishes - why? Surely one should expect the veg and sauces to fit the main part of the meal? Perhaps asparagus, kale, green beans etc. haven't made it to Radcliffe yet? But the very worst aspect of the whole experience - it was a FIXED PRICE menu, but of the eight starters, four had a supplement; likewise of nine mains, four had a supplement - including one of £5.95! Fixed price? A joke, surely. Please, chef or cook, rethink your veg options, and manager, rethink your pricing. To say nothing of the décor...

This is a family-run restaurant which consistently provides a high standard of freshly cooked food. It is unique in it's traditional approach to good food and service. The decor reflects this and does not attempt to present a "Blingy" environment. Some might say it has been caught in a time-warp, but this should not deter future visits. What they do, is done very well.I've already booked for their "Lobster & Strawberries" offer, and we are looking forward to it.
