Armenian Taverna in Manchester

I visit here with my Armenian girlfriend and the food has been good on both occasions. I fully recommend it.

Very much enjoyed. our first experience of Armenian cuisine and we loved it. Wine was great also, really came into its own with the food.

One of the best mixed grills I've had. Meat was tender and pink.

A Skewer of Disappointment with a Side of Regret! Truly terrible and painfully expensive for the privilege. Honestly one of the worst meals I’ve ever had out, and I’ve had airplane food that put this place to shame. I went with two friends. Our little tradition is to try a new restaurant every month or two. This one easily takes the crown for the worst yet, and unfortunately, it came with a king’s ransom of a bill. If the food had been good, we’d have swallowed it. Sadly, the only thing we swallowed was regret. One friend ordered the Garides (king prawns) to start. For £10.50, you get three standard-sized prawns drowning in greasy sauce, bulked out with more green peppers than a Tesco clearance shelf. I had the Yerevan Khachapuri, which sounded exciting but turned out to be a dense deep-pan pizza with identity issues. Then came a long, dry wait for the mains. We were left to marinate in our own conversation, completely ignored by staff. Empty glasses, no offers of another round. We eventually had to flag someone down like we were on a desert island. And the mains? Not worth the wait. My Tavari Shish Khorovadz (rib-eye) for £23.95 was a disaster. I was asked how I wanted it cooked, but it came out so incinerated I briefly wondered if it had been grilled in hell. The meat, skewered but not actually served on a skewer, was tough, dry, and lacked any trace of seasoning or tenderness. The plate was bulked out with a sad salad and three slithers of grilled potato, presumably to distract from the fact the meat could double as a chew toy. The décor makes it look like it’s trying to be upmarket, but I’ve had better meals in a cafe with plastic tablecloths and sticky menus. At least there, the food doesn’t make you wish you’d gone to McDonald’s instead. To add insult to indigestion, the bill came with an automatic 12.5% service charge that didn’t seem optional. My personal total: £51.30, which nearly made me choke. Or maybe that was just a bit of shish. Sheeeeeesh. Never again.

Five stars in a brotherly way, but the khachapuri could be fluffier, the moussaka is not so dry, and they don’t fry khinkali here

Every time I've dined here I've been blown away by the quality of the food the atmosphere and service. Amazing value for money. Everything is made fresh and or imported from Armenia. Thankyou so much I can't wait to come back!

We had a pretty bad experience at this restaurant we were very excited to visit. It started with me thinking my Chicken Kyiv was too tough (it was overcooked), and mentioning it to the waitress Sofia when she asked if everything was okay with our meal. When I said I felt like my chicken wasn’t tender enough, she proceeded to get really defensive and said “how can it be tender when it’s fried”? Actually, it can, if you cook it properly. I was very hungry so I ate most of the chicken, minus the outer coating, but I didn’t enjoy my meal. After that, Sofia pretty much ignored our table for the rest of the meal despite the restaurant only being at about 20% of their capacity. She didn’t make eye contact with me, didn’t say bye, or even wipe the table as my husband was waiting for his coffee. The meal cost us £60, and while most of the food wasn’t bad, but we definitely walked out with a bad taste in our mouths because of how we were treated. I’d not recommend this restaurant.

Slightly disappointing experience, I am pretty sure we got the wrong starters but the main course was good. Chaotic service with the manager berating his staff occasionally.

Excellent rendition of Armenian,as well as some Russian, Ukrainian, and Georgian dishes. Rare selection of outstanding Armenian wines and brandy. The owners Arman and Arusyak create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Great service, delicious food, amazing variety of Eastern dishes

The food was quite good, especially the main dishes such as kebab, shish, and chicken. However, the man who served us was very rude and unpleasant, and he mixed up several items in our order. In contrast, the lady server was quite nice and friendly. The man appeared to be the owner of the place. Additionally, I would suggest increasing the portion sizes. On the positive side, the location is great, and the newly renovated interior is excellent. The cleanliness throughout the restaurant, including the bathrooms, was also impressive.

There is honestly nowhere else in Manchester where you can sample and enjoy so many different styles of top quality wines affordably. Small measures for all wines regardless of the bottle cost, all probably new to you but with wonderful food to pair with them. Definitely a wine lover's place to sit on Albert Square and enjoy the sunshine and the entertainment of passsers by.

Amazing ambience, the food we had here was traditional Armenian and delicious! You must try the Honey cake for dessert. Cocktails and service were great too. We will definitely come back next time we visit Manchester!

Food absolutely lovely ,staff brilliant my only gripe is the tables are to close together.

Overall, an excellent experience. I have not had Armenian food before and following this, I would recommend it. Prices are on the high side mind and whilst delicious, I felt my prawn main dish was a prawn or two light for the money. The Armenian wine was delicious. You do pay a price mind. Consider that when booking.

Highlights include Khachapuri and grilled meats. We shared a banquet, which was absolutely delicious followed by honey cake and coffees. Service is attentive, and the quality of the dishes and ingredients make it well worth the visit. Absolutely a gem!

First time ever trying Armenian food and this place couldn’t have been a better option to introduce me to it. The cranberry-seasoned roasted lamb chops were incredible. Beautiful restaurant and quality service.

We had dinner there on a Friday evening. We were able to reserve a table in the afternoon and everything worked out great. Very nice, competent service! The food is divine! I'm vegan and have been able to order very tasty food everywhere (apart from dessert)🌱👍🏽⭐️ The wine recommendation for my friend was also great. We were very satisfied and had a full meal😂😋

What a great find! I remember the original restaurant back in the day in the basement. The reincarnation is really classy. Staff are very friendly and helpful, very knowledgeable on the wine. There is an amazing selection by the glass which is worth exploring. Wonderful food, fantastic vegetarian options. Will be back. Very highly recommended.

Have been many times and never disappointed, they also have an excellent selection of Armenian and Georgian wines. Outside seating in summer is lovely, recently refurbed inside. Great staff, very accommodating even for walk ins.

A unique restaurant. Dishes to suit the two V's and meat lovers. For me I made an excursion into V territory without realising. Starter of Broscht, then Khachapury ( a type of Armenian pizza - very simple a ring of crust with a mozzarella type cheese in the centre a bit spicy but not hot spice with a softish egg on top) finishing off with Babaganosh to clear the palate. I will definitely be back. For drink I went for an Ukrainian non alcohol beer Olobon. Try for yourself.

Absolutely wonderful experience. We booked our table about two hours before, thank goodness, as they were very busy. The welcome was polite and professional. The menu gives a varied choice and has plenty of vegetarian options. The wine list is confusing as the options are Armenian or Georgian and quite pricey. However, the food is very keenly priced and certainly compensates for this, especially as it's so good. Highly recommended.

If you are in Manchester and are already tired of noisy pubs, greasy, tasteless Great British Food, come here: hospitable hosts, pleasant atmosphere and light music, real barbecue, Caucasian cuisine (including borscht with solyanka). Prices, of course, are higher than in Yerevan, but you still need to get to Yerevan.

Great food, wonderful establishment in general but they get a 1 star review for not including VAT in their menu pricing. This is absolutely outrageous, and including service charge you can expect over 30% markup on whatever you are ordering - which isn’t exactly cheap in the first place. Not cool.

First time trying Armenian cuisine, didn’t know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Lots of choices on the menu, portions were solid and prices adequate. Place was packed yet the food didn't take long to arrive and standard was on point. Everything tasted freshly made on site. Pomegranate wine was the highlight of the evening. FOH was a bit confused, but it was valentines day so we get it. Will definitely come again.

Kebab shop quality at a high price, with miserable staff. We were made to feel unwelcome from the start. The older guy host (in a blue blazer, grey short hair) was hostile, he seems resentful of guests. The decor is white and gold, low atmosphere. One waitress was friendly, but the rest of the staff weren't. We ordered the Armenian Feast... No description of the food from the waiter. The starters were OK, no idea what they were. The main was a selection of dry meat, overcooked, not good. They charge extra for everything. We skipped dessert, I suggest you skip the whole place. Really disappointing. Two people starter and mains, one bottle of red, £131 - not worth it sadly.

Why didn’t anyone tell me that Armenian food is so good?! You don’t see many Armenian restaurants where I live, so I never had the opportunity to sample their delicious cuisine before. Luckily this place was a short walk from my hotel and has lots of vegetarian options so I decided to give it a try. I had the falafel to start, which was a little different than the typical Mediterranean style but nevertheless excellent and left me craving for more. Then I had the Mushroom Blini which was scrumptious and very satisfying, left me feeling like a superfood should.

Excellent service, delicious food! You can taste Armenian, Georgian and some Eastern European cuisine there, all very well cooked. So far the best place in Manchester.

Happened upon this place in a happy accident. Despite being obviously very busy for Valentine's, they were very accommodating and got me and my friend to a table. Small bar section in the front, but mainly a dining room with very pretty decor. All the staff were super sweet even when they were obviously quite busy (s/o Gleb (?) our waiter). The vegetarian options were flavorful and the portions were filling, which was awesome because I've never really eaten this cuisine before. Would recommend the mushroom stroganoff and the vegetable mussaka - I usually dislike bechamel dishes, but it was lovely. For the drinks, please please take a look at the wine list. I usually stick to homegrown reds (🇿🇦), but the pomegranate wine was a sweet surprise. I'd say it was comparable to a rosé; light, smooth and fruity. Overall, a great experience 🥰

We’ve been before and it was nice. Service was atrocious. Waited 15 mins to pay after we got the bill despite telling numerous staff we were waiting to pay. Asked to remove the service charge and the manager was really rude saying waiting 15 mins to pay was no reason and argued about it! Also my goulash c.£22 was really fatty about 50% fat - horrible cheap meat.

Really bad experience. I’ve been twice before and it was good. This time the service was extra slow. The food was smaller portions than usual. We waited over 20 minutes to pay despite repeatedly asking to pay. We asked for the 12.5% service to be removed and the waiter was really rude to us. I’ve been before and won’t be going back.

Shocking service. Slow. Unapologetic. And the prices on the drinks menu are not as presented on the bill. The apparent person in charge refusing to honour the price stated on the menu, which I suspect is against the relevant sales legislations. Check your bills. Don't be in a hurry. When the food does come, it's reasonable but not special

We had a very nice dinner. We ordered Armenian khacapuri and muttabal for starter, followed with mix khorovadz and dolma. The staffs were very helpful and informative. They are helping us a lot, giving us info about the food that we ordered, including the ingredients. So far, it's a very interesting and delicious dinner. If you like Turkish or Levantine cuisine, I think you should try Armenian food. It's delicious!

Sunday 9 February 14:30ish We were served with an undercooked/raw chicken Kiev. When this was brought to their attention, it was taken away with no apology or effort to make amends. A member of staff eventually appeared to apologise about the delay by this time the rest of the party had finished their main course, at this point we advised the staff to cancel the Chicken Kiev and take it off the bill. When the bill came, again there was no apology, only to point out that the food that Kiev had been taken off the bill, as if we should have been pleased with that. I won't be going back

Be sure to try the solyanka – it’s the best of the best! In the photo, you’ll see Chicken Kyiv and mixed shashlik.

I have had the chicken kebab, and shall I say the least it was fantastic. Juicy, tender and fresh. And the deserts all look really nice, I tried the honey one, and everyone who visit must try their deserts. The service was wonderful and with a smile all the time.

On a busiess trip, amazing food, services and atmosphere. When next in Manchester will certainly visit again.

Our overall experience was very good. The staff were really professional and nice. The atmosphere was fantastic and chic. Nice furniture. We ordered madzunova Khorosova and Shashlik for the main. Both dishes were amazing and delicious. However, it took between 30 to 45 minutes for our food to arrive!!! The chips were a bit too salty as well. But other than that, everything was perfect. The bathrooms were very clean. I would highly recommend it.

Tried the pomegranate wine a cross between a rose and an orange wine with the dry taste of pomegranate. Thoroughky enjoyed the chicken/ turkey minced kebabs added a rice which was enough for the 2 of us. A point knocked off for not very fresh pitta with the starter of mutabel and the restaurant not being apologetic. Beautiful chandelier. Amazing toilets.

A friend and I who’ve been to the old place many times in the past, and the new ground floor restaurant is lovely. The food and service were as good as ever, and I feel a bit mean only giving 4 stars for atmosphere, but that’s just because it was early lunch. The meat mixed starter platter for two was really good - a real mix of interesting flavours, and surprisingly filling! The mains were exactly what we keep going back for, and the price per person would’ve been about the £30 mark, but I got a nice bottle of wine between us. Marvellous.

We had a project Christmas meal here and it was absolutely amazing. Food was yummy and big portions. We had the party menu and the choice of dishes was great, something for everyone and we had many dietary preferences within our group that were all catered for. Such a friendly place. Everyone loved it and had great things to say, even those who were sceptical before hand.

The food was unbelievably scrumptious. I was surprised to realise that this place is actually one of the best restaurants I have tried around the city centre. The prices don't break the bank either, it's all very affordable. The decorations don't exactly suit my taste but the space itself feels quite fancy, neat and bright. I will definitely be coming back here soon, thank you to the restaurant for the lovely treat :)

But, one of the waiter was rude and we experienced not a pleasant situation, when manager was shouting at staff. According to reviews it happened before. This lesson should be learned

First time being here and the food was absolutely amazing, fresh and so tasty. Had the king prawn starter, mixed grill and honey cake which I’d definitely recommend. The staff were also really friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was really relaxed and chilled, not too loud! We will be back!

Sooo tasty OMG! And I'm talking about literally everything we ordered. Unfortunately I leave in another country I would go there very often. Really recommend. Wonderful Atmosphäre, delicious food and afortable prices. Thanks for the beautiful evening. The whole family truly enjoyed it.

Two years ago, we were here down in the basement. It was really good, and I rated it 5, but not today. The place is now newly renovated in an Italian style, which does not match with the Armenia style at all. Food quality and services are also disappointing. The staff is rude and impolite. The foods are too salty and badly presented. The wines are overpriced and not much to choose from, only areni nori is available.

I was most disappointed, the food was nice but cold. Not a problem I can fix that however my bread basket was missing, the best part of a mezze time meal!

We had a Christmas dinner party there, but unfortunately our festive mood was dampened. The food wasn't bad and the ambience was pretty cool, but what a terrible and rude restaurant manager… There were about 15 of us, but unfortunately some of our colleagues could not get to the restaurant because transportation was cancelled due to the aftermath of the storm. We paid the deposit in advance and when it was time to pay the bill the manager refused to take into account the fact that people struggled to get there and charged in full. We had a long conversation trying to convince him to adjust the bill however he was very stubborn and unyielding. it looked not only like ordinary greed but also absolutely unprofessional and not hospitable at all! He talked to us aggressively and rudely shouting across the restaurant. One of the ladies was upset when he raised his voice to her personally, however he refused to even apologise! We were astonished by the low standards of customer service. We will not return to this restaurant and discourage others from going.

Tasty, good portions. That's probably all that's good. Cons: 1. When booking they say one thing, when checking out they say something completely different. Keep in mind that Armenian hospitality does not always imply accurate calculation when issuing your check and the owner of the establishment shouts (no, perhaps it is more accurate to say - YELLS) at the guests. 2. Very fussy service, our order was clarified more than five times. 3. Very expensive, especially alcohol. My colleague paid £11.25 for a glass of wine and it was one of the NOT expensive wines. We were all shocked when we saw the check. By the way, the menu had a different price. 4. 12.5% ​​of your order amount is immediately added to your receipt. That's a lot for bad service. Will I come back here again? I doubt. Manchester has many good restaurants. Will our company hold a banquet here again? No.

Food was tasty but "rustic" in presentation. Festive menu on at £39.95 for 2 courses! When we booked the website had an a la carte menu, which was not available when we turned up. Drinks VERY expensive...Peroni £7.50. We felt rushed, the waiter actually asked if he could bring the main course when we were still eating starters. Owner looked miserable. 12.5% added for service charge. NOT going back.

This restaurant felt like a warm hug from home. The khachapuri, pickles, shashlik, khinkali, herring, and honey cake were all absolutely delicious. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, and the chef even showed us the brand of pickled mushrooms they served. A perfect blend of flavors and hospitality — highly recommend!
