Staff are lovely but service is slow. Starters were excellent but mains ranged from acceptable to poor. Chips were hard and undercooked, very lazy salad - handful of rocket salad from a bag - no dressing or any other garnish. Small and over cooked burger. Considering the price and the hotel 4 star rating I’m not sure the Beechill Gastro pub is worth a second visit. Overall - an expensive and disappointing night.

We were 13 to Dinner on Friday night, an evening out with friends which we’ve had at the BeechHill previous years. No one took charge of our group on arrival with menus. There was no set menu and the menus were just photocopies, We like to sit in the drawing room , order our meals then go into the restaurant when it’s ready but on Friday we went into the restaurant and it took a long time to take the orders. Food in general was just ok. The turkey was dry and the Christmas pudding cold. We had to ask for extra gravy and no cranberry sauce until requested. At no point did any staff ask us if our meal was ok. The candles on the table decorations were lit at the end of the meal. There was no toilet paper in the cubicle and 3 empty toilet rolls on a row!!! There was a reduction in our bill but we just wanted the BeechHill experience that we know and love.

We did not stay here, but had dinner on the recommendation of a friend who is from Derry. She was not wrong - great food, friendly, efficient service and a beautiful location. Previous diners include several Presidents of the USA ! The next time we are in Derry we will stay here as well as eat here as the location is so wonderful.

Start with the positives. The food was fantastic- innovative and delicious. Hotel itself is beautiful as are adjacent gardens. Now for our issues. From ordering to service of food we waited just short of an hour. Not acceptable when we we pretty much the only diners in the restaurant. There was just one (maybe I did see a second briefly) member of staff on who, through no fault of her own, could not cope. Our main gripe was that what we were served was not what was stated on the menu. Vegetables were missing from some dishes and replaced with others without us being informed. We did challenge this at the time but didn't really get an answer as to why it happened. Maybe they were between menus or as it was just after Christmas they ran out of certain ingredients. Very odd. Final confusion was with dessert where we ordered a baked Chocolate pudding only to find out it was served cold. After trying for 10 minutes to get the sole member of staffs attention we were told it was baked, but then put in fridge and thats why it was cold. Overall food quality and presentation was spot on. My Gnocchi was delicious and I can see why people come here- we must have just come at a bad time- such a shame for my mum who had bought the meal to us all as a Christmas present as felt she had let us down.

We ate in the Ardmore Restaurant on the 29th July. It was excellent. In every way. The setting is stunning with grounds always maintained to an exceptional standard. Inside the character of the place meets you in the foyer and you cannot help be impressed on every turn. We enjoyed a pre dinner drink in the bar and as we relaxed we were given time to study the menu and make our choices for our meal. After a few minutes we were escorted to our table in the conservatory restaurant. The view over the ponds, water wheel and the extensive rolling lawns just added to the feeling of comfort and calmness which is so often lost when dining out. The excellent pianist played a wide range of tunes but did so at a volume which added to the place rather than intrude in the experience. When the food came it was well presented and the tastes were just amazing. All three courses were perfect. Some comments in other reviews state the price is high. The Beech Hill experience is special and the Ardmore Restaurant just adds to this. Well worth the wee but extra you pay. The freshness and quality of the ingredients is evident and prepared to maximum effect by an excellent chef and full kitchen team. The service was excellent and the staff are very attentive. You get a real feeling that you matter to them. They all are happy you have chosen their restaurant to dine in and they all want you to come back again. Well done to all.

We stayed here as part of a relax and dine offer. We choose it because it offered a vegan menu, restaurants please note, vegans don't want to spend ages going through menus trying to veganise dishes but to be offered an already thought out menu by a chef who takes up the challenge. My vegan meal was excellent, the sever was very aware that I didn't want butter on any of the vegetables; the roll was also gluten free. It really is nice not to have to worry and check out everything. I got the feeling the vegan menu was in its infancy and they’re going with very safe choices but it is a start which all vegans welcome. There wasn’t a vegan breakfast offered which would have been nice but again the server was very willing to sort something with the chef to suit my needs. I do think this restaurant will grow and offer more choices as they become more familiar with what vegans want, we're not that hard to please, really we're not! We just want a nice meal with a little be of thought put into it, not handed a plate of pasta as is so often the case. Thank you Beech Hill.

We ate here on a Saturday night. The restaurant was quite busy and had the added enjoyment of a pianist tinkling the ivories on the grand piano...the food was beautifully presented and my steak was cooked to perfection...medium rare was exactly that. The vegetables were delicious and we were offered more which was lovely! We chose from the table de hôte menu and shared a starter and then shared the cheese board. That was a great idea as there was more than enough cheese, crackers, chutney etc for two. The starter of a goats cheese in a fabulous sesame crisp was so yummy it was difficult to share!!

A very nice place for dinner. It's special and in a lovely setting especially on a nice spring evening. The meals are made from high quality produce and delicious. The staff are quite attentive. There is a comfortable old world bar to relax in before/after dinner. I would certainly recommend for a special occasion as long as there is not a large function being held there at the same time.

A wonderful evening started relaxing in the oh so comfortable bar area where staff were attentive but not intrusive. Menus were handed out there and orders taken . It's a menu that changes regularly but on a glorious summer evening there was a glorious summer menuWe were seated just before starters arrived : and my tastebuds started to tingle : delicious food! Do ask for a wine recommendation : we had an amazingly smooth New Zealand Pinot noir which even went well with fish, Main courses were sublime : beautiful flavours and exquisite presentation . Summer roast vegetables to die for (so moorish!) At £26 for 3 courses do finish with a lemon tart : not sweet, not sharp just lemonyA wonderful night , wonderful food, wonderful service : a real treat

We went here on the recommendation of a friend of the owner. It sounded lovely and we were excited to have a special evening there. As they had an event on that evening, they could only take us at 5:30pm. We arrived on time and were told that the table wasn't ready. We sat in the lounge for 20 minutes beside a loud party who sang and swore solidly the entire time, so were relieved to be shown to the restaurant. We were one of only three tables and yet they sat us in the corner between the two others. The people at the other tables all knew each other, so as well as being beside a toddler, there was lots of conversations happening between the tables, which was also very disruptive. The service was okay, but the courses were then extremely rushed- the waitress took away our starter and immediately brought out our main. The steaks were average, and the veg was fantastic, especially the red cabbage, which was the best I've ever tasted. There was a very small portion of potatoes. The chocolate assiette was very mediocre, except for the mousse, which was lovely. My husband had the orange creme brûlée, which was really tasty. Overall, the food would be about 4 stars, but the experience and hurried service was a generous 2, so I've averaged it out. I did say to the girl at reception, who was very apologetic, but by that point our special occasion was not quite ruined, but was a long way from what we'd hoped for.

Stayed at the Beech Hill House hotel for a 2 night break and enjoyed some excellent food in their Ardmore restaurant. The restaurant has a lovely ambience both in the inner part and the "conservatory" area that overlooks a splendid view of part of the extensive gardens of the hotel. The food is beautifully presented with fresh flavours and it is good to know that a lot comes from their own garden. A little more pricey as is the wine, but certainly worth it. Worth trying are the salmon and pork mains.

The Ardmore is located in the upscale Beech Tree Inn just outside of Derry. The grounds of the home like most of Ireland are lush and green and the inn stately and quiet. The house and grounds all add to your dining experience and you are made to feel very special when you cross through the doors. What about the food? I'll get there. I just want the reader unfamiliar with the location to understand the meal starts the moment you drive past the country manor walls. The service and courses are all excellent, without ever becoming heavy or overpowering. The presentation is simple leaving the the food to be center of attention. It's a little pricey but probably our best meal thus far in Ireland.

Worst afternoon tea I've ever had.... Nothing dainty about it. We had to ask for some little sweet buns/ biscuits ,only 3 finger sandwiches each,a very large scone served with cream and jam and a little jar of Apple crumble. Would not recommend it at all. Staff were very nice and did bring a little plate of sweet things. But at £16.95 per person not good value.

We are just home from a most romantic dinner in the Ardmore Restaurant, Beech Hill Hotel. The evening menus was £29 for four courses of superb local produce cooked to perfection. My wife had vegetable soup, sirloin steak with champ, the apple and gooseberry tart with coconut ice cream. I started with the chicken liver pate and home made chutney, roast chicken and roast vegetables and the apple and gooseberry dessert. We had our coffee in the lounge by the fireplace and I struggled not to have a snooze it was just so homely and comfortable. The atmosphere was further enhanced with the live piano softly playing.Luxury with such a friendly genuine welcome at such reasonable prices made the whole evening very special. Many thanks to all in the Beech Hill for your very attentive care that ensured ever detail was just so perfect.Definitely will be back soon to experience the excellent food.Oh I am stuffed to bursting .

I visited this beautiful hotel as part of a conference and it is fair to say that the quality of the overall experience was very warm, inviting and more homely than you will find in any other Hotel in Derry City. Living locally I have always been aware of the great reputation held by this hotel and it most definitely lived up to it when I went to experience it first hand. They say its the simple things that people value the most and in my case this is true...I will never forget the quality in taste and aroma of the fresh coffee and scones served to us in the cosy lounge by the open fire. I will be back here at the next available opportunity. Thank You all for a wonderful experience!!

Last week we had the pleasure of going back to the Ardmore Restaurant at the Beech Hill Hotel for a quiet romantic meal in the build up to our son's wedding this week. As usual the welcome we received was warm and friendly and the menu we selected from was the "basic" tab menu. Well to call it basic is very misleading. Only the price was basic. The variety of local seasonal produce used in the menu was different again since our last visit, but the quality certainly hadn't changed. We both choose different courses just so that we could try each others selection. We were so spoiled for choice that we had our final course of coffee and shortbread in the large lounge with those two big homely fires. The perfect end to a perfect evening. It was a pity we had to go home.

Had arranged a group 'spook-tacular' lunch. Lovely building, nice friendly staff, good location, but the lunch wasn't balanced. A single plate of savoury 'nibbles', that really didnt satisfy our hunger, after a long journey. Oddly followed by a scone, and then bun stacks. More savoury & less sweet would have been more satisfying, a better balance and better value.
