The Gown Restaurant in Derry

Enjoyed a three course meal..started off with chicken which is so tasty. Had a delicious sirloin steak, red jus was amazing. Had apple tart in for dessert. All beautiful. Served by Mia, excellent ten out of ten service.

my sister found a SLUG in her lettuce. Would make me not want to go back as it shows lack of hygiene. The lettuce clearly wasn’t rinsed despite the waitress saying “we wash everything”. This is a 4 star hotel which cannot be justified.

One of Derry’s best kept secrets. Lovely ambience, beautiful food and professional and attentive staff. From first arrival until departure the staff are fully proficient in dealing with guests. The seating area in front of the bar for drinks before going into the restaurant is comfortable with an open gas fire. The set price menu, whilst not overly extensive, has something to please all tastes and it is refreshing that the sirloin steak option does not carry a supplement. Again the wine list has a good choice including a lovely Malbec at a reasonable price. The only issue we had was our allocated table was right beside the double swing doors from the kitchen and the constant stream of staff was very off putting. However, our request to be moved was facilitated immediately and our dishes and drinks transferred without any fuss. This is a nice location for a quiet romantic meal or with company and can’t be recommended highly enough. I had intimated to our waitress that I would be loathe to put a review on Tripadvisor as we wanted to keep this little gem of a restaurant to ourselves.

Spent our post 19th wedding anniversary (as we were both sick) & double birthdays celebration @Bishop's Gate Hotel Derry for an afternoon tea yesterday. The food was delicious. Hotel staff went above & beyond to make our afternoon tea special. Grazie mille ❤ Buon Appetito!

I was visiting from Australia and myself and a friend from Londonderry had lunch here on two occasions. The food and drink were both excellent, as was the atmosphere. Highly recommended and I will be back during my next visit!!

I was very disappointed with the duck I had as a mains it was very over cooked very tough,was dining with another couple who had lamb which she said was over cooked ,I did say to the waitress when she lifted the plates I had to leave my duck , I said to tell the chef he's over cooking the food came away very disappointed as I had dined there few months a to and food was amazing ,maybe they have changed the chef since but would not recommend it as a place to dine 😔

We came to eat in the restaurant last night to celebrate my cousin and her husband’s silver wedding anniversary and we had the best night! We’re visiting from Edinburgh, but my cousin is local! The food was delicious (lovely touch with the dessert for the couple celebrating!) and all staff were attentive and professional. Special mention for Leah - the best waitress/member of staff we’ve met on this trip! So kind, friendly and professional- so on the ball and aware of the juggle involved with having a 4 month old as she has one at home herself! First hot meal I’ve had in 4 months as a result of her excellent service. Can’t thank you enough for a lovely evening- we will definitely be back and I’ll be telling everyone at home about your gorgeous hotel/ restaurant! Thanks a million! 🤍

Popped in to this lovely well decorated hotel for lunch (the wig and Gown) , I did not stay here , just some business over a bite to eat , we sat in the restaurant and ordered from the menu , plenty on offer and all looked lovely , a bit slow on service to be honest and the lemon in the coke is a waste , but the thought was there , loved the dogs paintings of judges and the connection between the hotel with the courthouse next door, it does all look lovely the food was good and the staff were ok maybe need to smile a bit , but other than that this centrally located hotel would hit all the boxes , parking on the street maybe means a walk but again I was lucky to find a space outside the door , I’ll be back hopefully I’ll give a five next time see you soon….

I went for Sunday lunch as part of a party of 6. For starter I had goats cheese salad. This was very bland and uninspiring. It was meant to contain walnuts. It did. 5 tiny pieces. As a vegetarian I chose the vegetarian option of gnocchi. The menu stated that all main courses included buttery mash and roast potato. My main course contained neither so I asked for some mash which I got. When we received the bill I had been charged £3.50 for the. mash! Also the gnocchi was clearly shop bought and not freshly made. The vegetarian option would have been much cheaper than the meat or fish options. Not good enough. My dessert of lemon cheese cake was fair but there wasn't much of a lemon taste. Overall disappointing. Others in my group thoroughly enjoyed their meals hence the 3 star review. I would give 2 stars for my meal.

Loved it. Caesar salad was tasty. The sauce was fresh. And the poached egg was well done in a crispy batter. Although very little lettuce for some reason? I’d say no more than 10g of lettuce. Considering my partner got a massive bowl of soup. Main was teriyaki chicken which was the nicest chicken I’ve had. Potatoes also were good that came with the dish. Fries tasty. Baked Alaska was 10/10. Although it took 25 mins to serve the 2 desserts? I think they forgot about us. Customer service was 10/10. Never had to ask for anything they were always checking on us and established our desserts took a long time to come and apologised. Espresso martini was very nicely made and of high quality. No complaints really other than could put more lettuce as it is a salad

An excellent experience from start to finish. Booking was easy and straight forward and we were greeted on arrival. The choice of cocktails and wines was excellent as was the menu. Everything was fantastic with the quality of food first choice which was ideal as we were out for my wife’s birthday. Our server was Teddy who was friendly and knowledgeable and is an asset to the business. Surprised at some other comments as we had no complaints at all.

We were welcomed in out of the rain with no reservation. After being sat on the bar side, we were greeted by the enthusiastic Zaki who couldn’t have been more pleasant through our supper, drinks and desserts. Not a large menu but that’s what bar sides are for! We enjoyed the steak sandwich, chicken Kiev (should be Kyiv 😉) and fish tacos. Beers , cider and cocktail were all served quickly and on point. Try the bramble! The ladies in our party enjoyed the crème brûlée and lemon meringue cheesecake All in all, we are happy we stumbled on this beauty. In the dining room, you may want to be a little more dressed up on a Saturday night but we were welcomed by the staff in golf polos and tshirts after walking in the rain for a couple of hours .

First class food, service and setting. We dined in the private dining room to the back of the restaurant for my son's First Holy Communion. The room was beautifully set up with a personalised welcome sign and menus. Our entire party received a warm welcome from all the staff. Service was first class. Nothing was a bother and there was a relaxed atmosphere. Food was delicious and it arrived promptly. Well done Bishop's Gate.... our experience was amazing!

On arrival to restaurant our first impression was of he poor service you got the feeling the staff did not want to be there. Our food was average and overpriced for what we received will not return and unfortunately would put me off staying in the hotel.

Mediocre experience with poor service and disappointing meal. With a wait of over 40 minutes, the food was disappointing and the service was unpredictable with no sense of connection with anyone in our party. Overall, we decided to give this hotel a third chance for lunch and it just did not meet expectations at all.

Disappointing birthday dinner for family tonight. Staff rushed every part of the ordering, and were inattentive and uninterested, not a smile or mannerly approach among them. Sea bass was sent back as it was inedible. Did get replacement dish that was just ok. Steak was tough and was at least 2oz light in size. Got served soy sauce for hake dish instead of white wine sauce. Kids ice cream sundae was a plate of vanilla ice cream with blueberries and blackberries covered in toffee sauce. This is supposed to be 5 star food and service…the price is 5 star, that was all.
