Poor, poor service. Didn’t even get the chance to order. My husband & I stopped in for an early dinner as the menu looked good & it wasn’t very busy. The waiter was just bringing food to another couple when we sat down. He then brought a bill to another couple at the table next to us. They looked like they had been waiting a bit to get their bill. The waiter walked right by us again to the table the couple just left, cleared it off & then came back to wipe it down. The waiter then went behind the bar & made busy work of cleaning & playing with the till. He TOTALLY IGNORED us. He could easily see us from the bar but refused to look in our direction. We walked out. Apparently we weren’t the “right type” of customer.

Can’t believe there are so many 5 star reviews on here. Visited for evening meal to witness extremely slow service due to ONE person running the bar and front of house. He was running round like a mad man, dropping cutlery and serviettes, not very professional. Waited 20 mins for my drink and order to be taken. No cutlery when food arrived. Fish and chips seemed good value....hmm probably one if the worst I have tasted. Very greasy chips and batter in 3 separate goujons. The fish was tasteless and grey, definitely not cod or haddock which is much more tasty and flaky. They are near the sea for fresh fish! If I come back to Derry I will be eating elsewhere I’m afraid. Not recommended.

I booked this hotel because they advertised "live music every night" in hotel bar. It turned out to have no entertainment at all. Appently restaurant was recently refurbished, when we were there restaurant walls were dirty and had old food splatter on them. We also returned our evening meal due to chemical smell and taste from food. Strong urine smell from ensuite. I very much regret booking a two night stay here.

Had bar food lunch and it was very poor. Something as easy as fish and chips was well below average. Fish came out in three slim goujons which, whilst the batter was crisp, had little to zero fish. Plate was left very greasy. The mushy peas were dreadful- dry, chalky and not edible. Chips were fine. All in all paid £12 for batter and chips and a soda water. Would not recommend and would definitely not return. There are much much nicer places to eat, for better value in the same vicinity.

Having failed to be offered a table for dinner in the Maldron's main restaurant, we decided that the only alternative was the hotel's 'Lyric' bar which luckily seemed not to be very busy. When we tried to place an order for food, however, we were told that the kitchen was too busy and they couldn't take any orders for 30 minutes. By now we were getting a little desperate - it was Sunday and likely to be 9pm before we could even place an order (the time we had been told the kitchen closed). Nevertheless, when the meal did arrive it was very good and at reasonable cost.

The egg salad had an excessive amount of mayo in it. They both came with corn chips which were stale. Salad with a terrible tasting dressing on it and disgusting cole slaw that was overly salty with too much mayo. Never again.

This is the worst food I've had in the four weeks I've been traveling in Scotland and Ireland! I ordered a bowl of fish chowder and bruschetta. The chowder was nice and creamy but the fish consisted primarily of fake crab. I think there was a small mussel or two and possibly some bits of baby octopus. How hard is it to have access to good quality fresh fish around here?! Based on many other restaurants we've eaten at over the last 4 weeks, it's pretty easy! The bruschetta, or I should say what they call bruschetta, was abysmal!! Sliced, unripe tomatoes, sprinkled with dried basil on French bread, layered alternately with slices of mozzarella and toasted. It was gross and tasteless! Hubby's chicken wrap was less than mediocre as well. Whoever they have making decisions about cooking items such as these must have come out of the McDonald's school of cooking and should be relegated to washing dishes because they know nothing about cooking real food!! There is no way in heck I would ever eat here again. The ambiance is nice and service good, but without good food, that doesn't mean much.

This bar is part of the Maldron Hotel on Butcher Street [it was the Tower Hotel] and it has it's own entrance from the street. Over the years I'd been in it, but not since it's called the Lyric Bar. It has the reputation of a good music venue, so it was time to suss it out. As I was in Derry on Friday night last I called in. The first thing that hit me was the heat. It was a beautiful evening but it was oppressive inside. Surely the hotel has air con? Anyhow, two youngish lads were providing the music, and although they were a bit loud, they weren't bad. The crowd were typical hotel people, just calling in for a drink or two before they headed off to another venue. Staff were ok and the pint was good. Toilets are located in the hotel, so you have to leave the bar and go past reception. They have wi-fi, but you need to get the code at reception.

We used the bar twice during our stay at the Maldron Hotel this past weekend for food and drinks. It's a little expensive for bar food and some items are better than others. The first day I had a Panini but I have to say I've had better in a coffee shop for half the cost. The 2nd time we had the burgers and the beef burger is absolutely delicious would highly recommend. The staff are very helpful and friendly. There was live music in the bar on one night which seemed to draw quite a crowd (traditional Irish music). On another night there was a lively hen party who provided their own entertainment which wasn't suitable for children or indeed some adults but I guess you have to expect these sorts of things in a city centre bar.

Stayed here earlier in the year with my partner, upon arrival the receptionist was lovely, wish I could remember her name. Very pleasant & welcoming. When we had got checked in we asked about dining and she recommended we try the hotel bar. We went to the room & got ourselves ready then headed to the bar around 7pm, we ordered drinks & asked for bar menus. The unhappy looking barman returned with the drinks and no menus. After reminding him he replied that they were not serving food after 7 - bearing in mind it was maybe 7.05 - It is advertised til 9pm but maybe it was different this particular day which would not have been a problem although as we sat & had our drinks (which we wouldn't have bothered getting if we knew we weren't getting food) we watched 3 other tables all receive their food, the kitchen was obviously still cooking. Maybe his shift was over or he maybe had somewhere to be that night but either way we still felt unwanted and disappointed and will not return. Only reason I gave a rating of 3 was the lovely receptionist, thank you.

I was out with my father yesterday, and decided to pop into The Lyric with him as we could hear some Traditional music as we passed.I went to the bar and ordered and paid for (£8.50) a G&T and a Guinness. I then returned to the bar and ordered 2 portions of chips and asked if I could have some cheese on them. The barman then said that's £3.90, I'll add them to your bill, I asked what bill, and he said you haven't paid for your drinks! He then spent 5 mins going through a pile of note paper he had in his hand, at one point I even turned to some tourists who were sitting at the bar and asked them if they seen me pay, they confirmed that I had. He then stood at the till for another 5-10 minutes trying to work the thing, then got on the phone. Eventually he came back to me saying it would be £6 for the 2 cheesy chips, that this point I'd had enough, and took the £5 back from him, then he leaned across the bar and said "Thanks very much for embarrassing me on my 1st night"!! - I had been trying to give him every break possible bearing in mind he pretty much argued with me saying I hadn't paid when I had! At this stage I went to the edge of the bar and asked to speak to the Manager, while waiting the chips arrived, but I explained to the girl who brought them that I didn't pay for them and had cancelled the order, when I spoke to her she was extremely defensive, and asked me to step into the hotel area as she claimed I was raising my voice! (bear in mind there was loud music playing!) - I stated that I wasn't but even if I was I had every right to be irate after what had just happened, I also pointed out that if it was the barmans first night he should have been "shadowed" she then said he was a very experienced barman and didn't need help! At this stage I returned to my father (about 15 mins after I'd gone to the bar!).The manageress then came over and asked if we wanted a complimentary drink, I said no thanks, it was too little too late!

Called in here a few times. Nice atmosphere and loadsa wall local themed photographic decor.Great quality pints.Only down side on our recent visit was the wife's cocktail was really poor. Boring tumbler glass, not mixed/shaken, yawn!!Great bar for the rugby when it starts.

Not your traditional Irish Pub, but a great place to hear some music. The interior is more contemporary. Good drinks. We had a good time the evening we were there. The music was very good, but a little loud.

Bar service is not up to the same service standard provided by the Adjoining hotel staff. Bartender unfamiliar with common American mixed drinks.

This was a nice wee bar where we went for a drink after our dinner in the Tower Hotel restaurant. Lots of photographs on the walls. There was a bit of music as well on the Fri night which was quite good.

The waiters were spectacular and the atmosphere delightful. Great little piece of history to sit back and unwind!

Heard Lyric did live music so popped in for a drink. It was dead. 4 other people in the bar and absolutely no atmosphere. No live music or even the promise of any. The music from the stereo was so loud it made chatting difficult. Plenty of photos to stare at instead as tried to finish drink to leave onto somewhere with a bit more of an atmosphere. Nothing remarable...would avoid going back

We went to the bar both nite of our stay in the hotel, birthday coctails were amazing, and the artists both nites just set the scene perefectly, real good music, only downside was the music stopping, relativley early in the evening, which I suspect was through respect for clientelle staying in the hotel, and to although for non customers to be ushered of the premises before closing time, hower if your staying in the hotel your quite welome to stay on a little while.

Convenient as it was our hotel lobby bar, it was a quiet stop to end the evening and enjoy a pint (or two) before bed.

By far, the best Chinese in Derry! Best chicken and cheese rolls. Best specials. Great service either via just eat or after a night on the town! Highly recommend kam House.

Had arranged a group 'spook-tacular' lunch. Lovely building, nice friendly staff, good location, but the lunch wasn't balanced. A single plate of savoury 'nibbles', that really didnt satisfy our hunger, after a long journey. Oddly followed by a scone, and then bun stacks. More savoury & less sweet would have been more satisfying, a better balance and better value.

Man this bar was great, what a party we had. Great music and better drinks with family made for a great evening.
