This bakery is lost within its own hype: I bought 2 of the apricot pastries and 2 of the gooseberry pastries, but bizarrely only half of them were boxed up - the remainder were wrapped into a paper bag. All for the princely sum of £18. Needless to say, the pastries in the bag were pretty unrecognisable upon opening an hour later. Clearly there is a weird policy here of '1 box per customer', no matter what you spend. Go to Livy's further up the street, like all of the locals do ...

Lackadaisical and unprofessional. Some might like the quaint charm of a bakery that never makes enough product to cover a morning let alone a working day and others might fall for marketing BS that implies being sold out results from insatiable demand for a high quality product and we all like the feel good vibes of Bake Off but the reality is that this is run like a hobby business. Do not bother to make this a destination for your day. Don’t think you can reliably stop off here for lunch or a bite to eat. Even if the food is OK they make a tiny quantity and shut when it runs out. The allure of the Bake Off connection rapidly wears off when you get here around 12.00 and repeatedly find it either closed or with nothing much left to buy but crumbs. It’s amateur & treats customers as mugs. There are much, much better professional operations out there (If not in Dunkeld tbf. The crown is held by Mhorr bread in Callander in our opinion) This might have been acceptable from a student. Several years down the line it’s just a farce & the food although not as bad as the rest of the town is just not so good it justifies the whatev’s attitude.

Firstly, yes the pastries are good. Worth £4? Not quite, but they are good. The cakes are comparable to the cakes available at the co-op across the road. Our main issue is the atmosphere and general effort at the bakery. The staff are miserable, minimum service that is functional and nothing more. If you dare attempt to enter the bakery anytime before 9.40 then be ready for glares and disdain. I'm not sure how a company can grumpily turn away so many customers without any attempt at changing opening hours or increasing stock. We used to visit weekly, then monthly, now yearly. We are now at the next step. Goodbye tarted up Madeira loafs, the tourists can have you.

Very cosy little bakery with a lovely interior and atmosphere. Good range of pastries, sourdough breads/rolls and focaccias. What’s a bit disappointing is a lack of vegan options. Even the courgette and pea soup was not vegan as it had cream in it. Also, coffee was served in a takeaway cup for sitting in which feels like such a waste.

Really terrible customer service, please consider the staff you hire. We arrived on Saturday, they were almost sold out (which is completely fine) but their opening hours stated they shut at 3.30pm. We arrived around 1.30pm and grabbed some of the last bits of food and a coffee to sit in. My oat milk cappuccino was average at best. The two younger servers seemed utterly disinterested and frankly rude when we attempted to praise a salad we'd ordered, entirely ignoring the comment and not engaging with us at all. They continued to shut off the coffee machine and close the place without bothering to ask if any of us sitting in might want another. Will not be back! The hype isn't worth the bad customer service. The only reason this isn't 1 star is because the kale salad was very tasty.

Got married in August in the area. We were being very indecisive about the cake and didn't want to spend a lot on a proper wedding cake. Finally, decided to message Aran bakery, with about a month to go. They said they couldn't deliver so we organised the delivery ourselves. We got an apple and olive cake and a gluten free chocolate cake (devils food is the official name if I remember correctly). Oh. My. God. They were so delicious, and I LOVED the butter cream on top. At some point during the wedding, the labels (GF and non-GF) somehow must have not been very visible, and so some people who I know for a fact would never touch a GF cake with a barge pole, came up to me to say that the chocolate cake was delicious! For the next two days us and the bridal party stayed in a lodge and ate the remainers of the cake right out of the box. It was actually incredible and I still remember that devils food cake. I haven't had a reason to buy a cake since but the moment someone's birthday comes up I'll be on it.

Surely one of the very best bakery and coffee shops in the northern hemisphere. The best bacon roll I have ever had (and I have eaten a few) with rhubarb ketchup: roll and bacon both perfectly crisped. Then an exquisite spiced plum and patisserie cream (perfect) pastry with a ginger crumb. And fabulous coffee. So good we returned the next day and I had exactly the same. A wonderful discovery. Bought bread and one of Flora’s cookery books. My wife described the first recipe I made from it as “the best thing you have made”. Tiny, with only 9 seats, but proof that small is beautiful.

If you're in Dunkeld then you have to visit here! We popped in here for lunch on a recent holiday to the area and it is probably the best bakery I've ever experienced. I initially thought I was opting for their bacon roll (luxury) but went with the cheddar and kimchi toastie instead... bear with me. I love cheese toasties and kimchi but would have never thought of the two going together but wow! Their sourdough bread is the best I have ever had and the filling is simply life changing. I'll be using this as a filling at home but I know it'll never be like theirs.

Let's start with the positives. The lamination on the croissants is impressive and the tiramisu Danish was scrummy! ;-) That is where my positive praise ends. Firstly, having spent nearly £100 on two Christmas hampers- I was surprised to find both hampers stuffed into one bag upon collection. An interesting assumption that I would gift two hampers to one person/party! I therefore thought it reasonable to ask one of the servers for another bag - which prompted a look of what can only be described as either confusion or disdain. She duly disappeared behind the counter to then proceed to stare at us. No paper bag ever materialised. My partner and I should have just bailed there and then but we stupidly decided to purchase a couple of pastries and some terrible tea. Now I understand that this bakery trades until they sell out and there is no space inside to sit and eat any produce you purchase however having spent a fair bit of money with this establishment as well as seeing two blokes scoffing their cake and pastries inside - we decided to do the same. The same woman who awkwardly served us previously decided to take it upon herself to approach myself and my partner to tell us to leave with our goods as there was no space indoors to eat what we had purchased. Please note that: A. the bakery was empty. B. two blokes were allowed to eat without interruption inside prior to our arrival C. we literally were in the bakery for less than 5 minutes It's a real shame that the poor, downright awkward service skills of one individual can actually turn what should have been a pleasant experience into a terrible one that necessitates a tripadvisor review! So my advice is take your pastry complete with its epic lamination and get outta dodge before you are asked to leave with immediate effect.

I really wanted to love Aran, been following them on Instagram and had high hopes. The coffee wasn't up to much, yet another place that doesn't know the difference between a flat white and latte - a flat white isn't a small latte. The Danish was nice however tasted a little oily, and the filling/topping wasn't enough. The sausage roll was average, didn't get the apple or safe coming through. Also pretty expensive, although I get it's a tourist spot.

Can't even comment on the quality of the food as it didn't even get that far, planned to visit Dunkeld and was really looking forward to trying this place after reading all the reviews. We entered the shop, there was bread of a few different types laying out for self serve and there were flies all over them, there were cakes behind a glass counter and again flies crawling all over, so we left immediately. It is beyond me why you would run this type of business and not have your products covered. It's not easy to control flies in the heat but you can definitely cover your food same as other establishments in the area. Totally disappointed as it was the first place we stopped off at on our trip.

The drinks menu is creative and extensive. Something for everyone. Our server explained the concept of the menu. The key is to look at hints chart: if you like 'this type of drink' try 'this' here. I chose Cheerful. It blew me away. I am not usually a whiskey fan, but it gave a kick to the champagne and the balsamic gave a depth of flavour unique to what I have ever had before. Definitely worth a stop. The bar is gorgeous.
