I booked an afternoon tea for a friends birthday - but upon turning up found that there had been a technical glitch and the afternoon tea wasn’t available. Rather than just apologise for this IT error and fob us off - the manager went totally out of his way to make amends. We were treated like royalty. We opted for a lunch instead and the food was delicious. The service is outstanding and if you are lucky enough to sit outside you have a view of the heart of Saffron Walden while you eat. Truly recommend a visit here if you are in saffron Walden

Really disappointing lunch - rather overpriced for what we got - 5? prawns in very greasy sauce and poached eggs underdone atop a very few spear of spindly asparagus on underwhelming sliced bread... Cakes overpriced for the size and in one case dry and flavourless. Not sure how to put this but person serving a bit off - like he was doing us a favour and I sort of got told to sit down a couple of times. Strange. I expect he was having a bad day. Always used to head here when in SW and enjoy what we had. We feel it's gone downhill so we likely won't bother going again.

We called in to the cafe last week at about 1115 on a weekday. We have visited before and always enjoyed the coffee and cakes. On this occasion most of the tables were empty with reserved signs on them. We sat at the end of a large table where 4 people were already sitting.Eventually a man appeared and told us our table was reserved. We pointed out that this was the only table we could find that did not display a reserved sign.He said that the reserved sign was at the other end of the table where the diners were already sitting. As there were no other free tables we left and went elsewhere. It was obvious that the cafe was understaffed and they had roped off the tables to restrict the numbers. The man could have explained this and told us there would be a delay but was just so rude we left.If the cafe continues with this attitude they will not have to rope off half the premises to keep people away because no one will bother to return including us!

Always visit this shop has great selection of items. Today visited the cafe which is very nice to sit in. Took 25 minutes for them to get around to taking our order and then ages for coffee which was nice and hot to come. Cheese scones served warm also good. They seemed to be serving the regulars first though and leaving us just waiting!

We have visited this shop several times and never come away empty handed! It is very original and has lots of rooms. Even if you did not purchase anything during your visit, you would come away with lots of creative ideas. Items are arranged by style, colour or designer. It is relatively expensive, but the prices match the quality of the products. They do a lovely selection of greetings card, next to the till as you walk in. It is a well-established family business and the history is displayed on a wall. The people on the till have always been friendly, chatty and welcoming. We have not visited the café yet, because when we visit the town, we always eat in a restaurant.

Smashed avocado and poached egg on sour dough toast, egg perfectly cooked, but what was in the avocado? Overpowering and unrecognisable could taste lime juice but not the avocado when I asked what the other taste was I was told “no I don’t know what’s in it” couldn’t eat it, shame as lovely place to have lunch.

Visited yesterday, had cappuccino and cream scones, which were tasty. My main concern is that sitting on the balcony there are 3 tables spaced very close together. They are definitely not one metre apart and with no one wearing masks I was not particularly happy about sitting there. Although the tea was fine, although we got someone else's bill, I would not be happy to return in the current climate.

I noticed in the local paper that Angela Reed were doing takeaway afternoon teas and as my mum was 80 this year and I had to cancel an afternoon tea out I thought this would be just the job. She, and I, were absolutely over the moon with it. The chef had even made a special Happy 80th Birthday chocolate plaque, it was all amazing and such top quality. So easy to order on line, lovely follow up call and easy to collect from the cafe. You do need to be hungry as there is plenty of it! Would definitely recommend and will have no hesitation in having another, thank you so much Angela Reed.

Our favourite Cafe Coucou was overflowing on a busy Saturday, and- having tried it twice without success- we had to look elsewhere for a light lunch. Anything after Cafe Coucou was always going to be a very poor second, but we hadn’t anticipated it being a very poor fifth or sixth... Such a pity as we like this shop, and have bought one or two nice pieces here on our visits to Saffron Walden. They’d run out of avocados by 1.30 so we had to settle for poached eggs on toast. This turned out to be two rather small and vinegary eggs on a single piece of toast. A meagre light lunch for £6.95 a go. No better than an average caff turns out for half the price. We left feeling hungry. And ripped off. Can’t recommend. And won’t be returning.

You can sit outside as well, was very busy when we went. Friendly staff freshly prepared food and drinks. Very convenient if you are looking around their shop as well.

This is a new addition to the Angela Reid shop.Very cleverly done. Good cooking, simple menu - but nothing more is required.Attentive staff. Excellent cake. I have not tried much of the savoury - yet. I am a local so that is to come.Love meeting my friends for coffee. Light and airy, great atmosphere.

A nice environment, and the staff are pleasant and attentive. The last time there I had a bacon sandwich, which was a dissapointment, just one slice of bacon, and expensive. Previous visits have been very satisfactory.

We followed our noses and ears through the furniture store to find stairs leading to very attractive first floor cafe. We enjoyed excellent morning coffees and a bacon sandwich [great bread, delicious bacon] and cake seated on tiny balcony in the sun. Our destinations, St. Mary's Church and the Fry Gallery are close by.

My hubby and I paid a visit a few months back when the cafe had only been open a few weeks and we were very impressed. Despite it being a bit later than "lunchtime" there were plenty of savoury options - I had a delicious goats' cheese tart and Mr Carnivore enjoyed a pie featuring chorizo, which was right up his street! Since then I have been admiring from afar via the cafe's Facebook page the amazing cakes they keep producing....we really must get a return visit in our calendars!

Strawberry and Rhubarb Posh Pop was a treat for my daughter and 'lush' apparently ;) we will return - thank you to the staff for friendly efficient service :)

My friend and I had lunch today at Angela Reed. Lovely and clean. Efficient and friendly staff. Interesting menu. Reasonably priced. Food cooked 'from scratch'. Absolutely delicious too. Good sized portions. What a treat. Will definitely return when we visit Saffron Walden.

The cafe is in such a pleasant setting my partner and I go at least once a week if we can, even though we only live round the corner! Yes it does have its busy times like any good cafe but if you want lovely food then go here! The elderflower and coconut cake is to die for and my favourite by a mile! The staff are lovely and friendly and we would recommend you come and try it! You can always browse the lovely shop as well either on your way in or out! Well worth a visit!!

Very good venue with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. A simple menu but with plenty of choice and executed well. The choice of cakes and the display is very good.On this occasion I had a lovely bacon sandwich , not difficult , but very easy to get wrong from my experiences !Bread was excellent.Love the staff aprons. My only critisism would be that I would prefer a table ordering service as oppose to queueing at the till to order and pay.

I'll start by saying that I very much admire the furniture side of the shop and have always been impressed by their offering and value for money. For this reason, I was keen to visit the cafe and for it to be similarly impressive; unfortunately, I was disappointed. The venue is attractive, light and airy and as a means of drawing customers through their merchandise displays is a very clever device. The staff were friendly although became slightly muddled with what should have been a relatively straightforward order. The range of foods offered is narrow in keeping with the catering facilities available, with which I have no problem providing that those few items are tasty, well presented and good value for money. Sadly, my hot smoked salmon salad was a modest portion size with very little salmon present and lacking the wow factor in terms of seasoning and visual impact; it certainly didn't justify the price tag. Cathy's courgette and feta salad was similarly okay but nothing to recommend a return visit. There are other well regarded venues in and just out of town that demonstrate how to offer great food that looks stunning at fair prices; I would recommend that they pick up a few tips because I would genuinely like to see the cafe achieve the standards consistently maintained in the rest of the business.

This cafe is on the top floor of a furniture store very close to the market square. Lots of nice things to see on the way to the cafe. A lovely setting with a nice terraced view over myriad rooftops. Lovely coffee, great cakes, fantastic bacon sandwich, and very friendly staff

I have been here on three occasions. Food is always excellent. It has a lovely interior and a nice deck space outside with views over the Saffron Walden rooftops.

This is great new addition to a thriving cafe culture in Saffron Walden. Angela Reed (a furniture shop) has added a cafe on its top floor, with outside area. The cafe is very smart and modern. It was full when we visited and we were lucky to get table. The home roast of coffee was very nice, served in white Villeroy and Boch cups and saucers. We enjoyed savoury and sweet treats. The chocolate scones were an unusual success. Our only suggestion is that the young women serving looked a bit hassled, perhaps not used to a busy cafe yet, and didn't have much time for pleasantries.

We had a fabulous Sunday roast here today, can’t complain about anything. The staff are friendly and welcoming and super attentive. We had two courses which was very well priced for the quality of food. One thing we would like is to bring back the scotch egg starter please.

The old punch bowl is the place to be at the week days and weekends, the selection of gins is a huge success. They offer great food at a reasonable price and worth your money, the team behind the bar are always helpful. They have a very good sized garden to enjoy a beer in the sun.

We had a good time at the restaurant, nestled away from wedding festivities elsewhere on the grounds. The wait staff were both friendly and attentive. The cream tea was good and we were indulged without the usual reservations requirement which was appreciated. Our sandwiches were fresh with tasty fillings and the scones warm and generously sized. However for the price we felt the trio of desserts was incredibly basic. A real shame since the rest was so enjoyable.

Used this eatery when staying at the Premier Inn Saffron Walton a couple of years ago and there were no complaints then but things have changed. When we went to get our table at 7.30pm we were told that we weren’t being rushed but we need to get our orders in before 7.40pm or we wouldn’t be able to eat anything as the kitchen closes at 8.00pm. Once seated we were then presented with both the menu and a list, equally as long, of items that weren’t available on the menu. By this time we only had 8 minutes on the clock to decide whilst cross-checking the menu! The food itself was pretty average. After the meal we went to have one more drink in the bar. Once sat down with our drinks we were quickly told it was last orders, soon after that, around 5 minutes, all guests had to leave the bar. The England game was switched off half way through, maybe not a bad thing, and the door was practically slammed behind us as we were turfed into the lobby with the remainder of our drinks. I realise this is not the staff’s fault, they are only enforcing the rules but it all felt very rushed and stressful. Other guests were clearly annoyed by this. On the whole I think the opening hours could be handled better and something needs to be done about the lack of options, whatever the reasons, it was embarrassing.
