Anexo Tapas in East Hertfordshire

Had pardon peppers that were not fresh, chewy to eat. Potato bravas, over cooked Chicken skewers, over cooked could not remove from the skewer. Chorizo over cooked..shame …. It’s not the anexo I have eaten at many times before the move to a new location…

Such a great vibe at Anexo. Food is delicious and the atmosphere is superb. There is something magical about independent spots like this. We’ll be back.

Loved the food and the atmosphere in the new location, but there were a couple of small concerns which I'd like to point out and I hope this is taken constructively. We still had a lovely evening and I am in no way suggesting the whole experience was bad. One of our party had a strict vegan diet and unfortunately staff could not tell us with any certainty which dishes were entirely vegan. When we asked which dishes, the responses were vague and one comment was "depends how vegan you wanna be". We ordered some patatas bravas and they did accommodate us by having the sauces on the side, but when we asked which of the sauces were vegan the waitress just pointed at the alioli and said "erm.. definitely not that one because it's alioli'. I would just like to clarify that traditional alioli is simply garlic, oil salt and lemon (which is absolutely suitable for vegans), so what they are serving is actually mayonnaise.. (which is fine, nothing wrong with a bit of mayo, it's just not the same thing as alioli). This response to our question also meant we still had no idea if she could have the other dip! Overall we had a really great meal, but a few small changes would have made it amazing and more inclusive for everyone at the table. Marking on the menu which food items are suitable for a vegan diet would be a great start and an easy fix and just having some alternative sauces available/ knowing for certain what's in them! Of the few vegan plates we did have, they were absolutely delicious, so achieving this wouldn't be a tall order and I think would open up the restaurant to an even wider audience.

This was my second time to this restaurant, the first was to the original one located in a different venue in Hertford. What a difference to my first meal-I found it all a little disappointing. The food was very average and a little tasteless. I ordered the chicken skewers which were overcooked- so dry I couldn’t get them off the skewer! We had to ask for them to be removed from our bill even though we complained about them. The fish cakes were bland and the sourdough felt slightly stale. All in all it was not the best meal and certainly nowhere near the standard when I first visited its original location.

Love Anexo's new home in the Storehouse & bonus of having outdoor seating when sunny gives it a holiday vibe. Highly recommend the vegetarian options; the friend artichoke hearts with aubergine puree is one of the most delicious tapas I've ever had. So inventive and moreish. My carnivore-loving husband devoured the cauliflower steak with pisto as much as I did! Perfectly complimented with the white rioja.

A lovely place to eat. Good selection of tapas. Attentive staff. It needed a bit of background music in my opinion. Maybe some traditional Spanish guitar. Quiet enough you can still talk.

Pretty poor, booked a table and we we're sat downstairs around the bar amongst other couples, one who particularly liked the sound of his own voice so it wasn't very personal. Food was ok, but came out in dribs and drabs. We cancelled our last item due to waiting over 15 minutes. Probably won't return

I mean, I grew up in the south of Spain. Tapas is what I grew up with so I'm a bit traditional when it comes to a tapas restaurant, tapas and anything that calls itself tapas. So, for me, this didn't make the Spanish tapas grade. However, as a spin on a tapas restaurant goes and as far as good food goes it was really good. So it was more a small plates restaurant with a hint of Spain thrown in here and there. The Jamón Croquetas were nice.

I wish I had found this restaurant sooner! Amazing food & atmosphere…. A refreshing change to the usual restaurants in the area. My new fave in Hertford! A must try for anyone that hasn’t been. X

Just had an amazing birthday dinner here - the waitress who served us was so nice and recommended some great dishes - the mussels and pork belly were our favourites. House wine was very good as well. Would definitely recommend!

Two of us dined in the downstairs bar stool section on a Friday night - great for a cosy night out but with a bit of atmosphere. We shared about 6/7 of the Tapas options - with the crispy crushed potatoes and the meatballs being our favourite dishes but most of the food was fantastic. Special mention to the waitress Amy downstairs who was running the bar stool section and was fantastic in taking ours and everyone else's orders, getting our drinkings and generally looking after us! Great job! Sadly didn't get a chance to take too many pictures, but it looked so good when it came most of the time we dived straight in! Well worth a visit for a fun place for dinner.

Turned up just before the evening rush without a booking and with my newborn in tow. Had a really lovely, friendly welcome and they squeezed my partner and me in. Despite knowing we needed to be a quick turn around for them, the staff didn't make us feel rushed at all. The tapas was delicious, would love to go back for a full meal and to try out the whole menu! Highly recommended!

Overpriced average quality food. Was there a year ago and it was much much better. Very disappointed this time around

We were at Annexo for opening night and have been many many times since - it is our favourite local to go to, but tonight was the first time that the food was not on point. We had to send 2 dishes back and didn’t get one of them (olives). The 2 dishes sent back were not replaced, they had just assumed we didn’t want them and took them off the bill. Generally the food wasn’t as tasty. The staff were lovely as per, none of this is their fault. But as we love this place so much, we felt compelled to write this review as constructive feedback.

Me and my husband just visited Anexo Hertford for the first time. And we were very happy. Book the bar stools opposed to the table in the restaurant if you want an intimate couple experience with dimmed ambiance downstairs. The food was fantastic and so was the service. My only request was that the pulpo 🐙 was more typical español with potatoes and paprika. We can wait to come again we loved all of it especially the food. Gracias

The downstairs bar stool area is a nice place to eat. The food was very good (apart from the octopus which was too chewy).

Incredible food, incredible waitresses/waiters and such a wonderful atmosphere! We can’t wait to come back!

Very nice tapas, although more big plates than small tapas size. House white rioja was exceptional value. Excellent staff and service. Only odd point: they don't have a phone so it's hard to adjust booking if required. Hertford House (part of group) opposite take their calls instead. Anexo highly recommended and clearly very popular. Creme brulee is outstanding as are the mushroom croquettes with truffle alioli.

First time in this restaurant today and I was hoping for something a lot better, the food was mediocre but the service was excellent.

Very good quality food in an authentic, relaxed setting. Croquetas and meatballs were as good as offered up in a Sevillan tapas bar.

Hands down THE best tapas I have ever had! This place was suggested by a work colleague and I’m very grateful to them for doing so. This place should be booked up weeks in advance it really is that good. Amazing service, wood fired ovens, great prices and chefs! I cannot recommend any one single dish as each plate that arrived piping hot to our table was insane good. Please do yourself a favour and go, go, GO! vamos!! Tried to book in mid November for a party of 12 for a Christmas night out, had to email as over 7 people, very slow response from Anexo, finally they confirmed a booking & a promise that deposit details would follow, didn’t hear anything from them for 3weeks, in the meantime booked elsewhere as felt they had let me down, in the email that arrived 3 weeks later Anexo confirmed wrong date & gave me 4 days to pay the deposit! , I’m so glad we didn’t go there, terrible customer service.

A well put together menu, tasty mix of vegetatian, meat and seafood..... decent wine list. Staff great, we had a great night there.

1st time here and from start to finish was a great experience. Food was fantastic will be back.

Pretty disappointing.. some dishes were good and some were a complete let down. Ham croquettes and green peppers were good. Black cod was a complete disaster... The dish was essentially boiled cod, caned chickpeas, jarred olives and a slide of some pickle on top. Absolutely tasteless.. Patatas bravas were lacking in sauce, which asked for more and the staff forgot about. Meatballs were ok and the pepper croquettes were awful, probs from frozen. The service started of really well however we were quickly forgotten. We kept reminding them to bring what we have ordered as it was completely forgotten by the staff. We received olives mid dinner (which was actually not charged for), then we kept asking for water, my glass of wine was empty for ages an it took a while until they bring me another one.. we have been at Anexo before,when it just opened, and were impressed by it. This time round we were disappointed.. I don't think we will be returning any time soon..

Very tasty tapas and reasonably priced. Had the croquetas, pan con tomate, salted cod and steak with chimichurri - all good.

Really nice food and friendly service. My only issue was that we were rushed through.

I came in with my family last night and we had a fantastic experience. The food was better than food I had eaten in Spain. Our favourite dishes were the ‘specials chicken’ the octopus and the spiced Cauliflower. The service was impeccable and the manageress Sadie was extremely helpful and very entertaining. I highly recommend eating at Anexo

Travelled from SW London cos I’d heard great things about Anexo. Hands down the best tapas I’ve ever had in the UK. On levels with the food I ate during my long stays in Barcelona. Ingredients are fresh and cooked to the highest standards. I’d certain recommend the octopus and hanger steak with chimichurri.

Absolutely amazing food and service. We went last night , a family meal for my husband's birthday. Really recommend this place, we will definitely go again.

Friendly staff and service with good starters and dessert. Octopus was a bit overdone but sauce was good. Pork was well-cooked but salsa was tasteless and did nothing to moisten the pork.

Sabie was excellent at attending to our needs. The service was impeccable and I’m glad to say that my first tapas experience was an Anexo experience. The menu is consolidated to a handful of dishes per category, with each dish leaving you wanting more. The chefs clearly care about the work they put in. A server accidentally dropped a glass at another table, and I was happy to see that they weren’t scolded for it. Instead, another member of staff came along to help and made sure the server who dropped the glass was okay. I would definitely come back.

Wow! The food here is incredible. This was our second visit and on both visits, we absolutely could not fault anything. The service was fast and staff were friendly and helpful. My partner enjoyed the chicken skewers and the steak whilst as a vegetarian, I’ve found the food from the vegetable section to be perfect. We both thought the patatas bravas were the best we’ve had! We sat downstairs in the bar stools area which we were unsure of but actually ended up preferring to the restaurant upstairs. The atmosphere was brilliant. We can’t wait to return!

Great food and excellent service for sure although I have to say paying over £30 for a small jug of sangria is quite alarming. Definitely recommend Anexo but by god make sure it's payday when you go.

It seems that you are in the main square where the manager is a very good worker.

Whilst the service was great, (the man that greeted us was great!) I couldn't help but feel slightly underwhelmed by the food, just feel as though nothing really jumped out at us flavour-wise! Though the main issue was the price against portion sizes in honesty. 11.50 for the charcuterie "board" is utterly extortionate. Understand tapas is made up of small plates, but a full experience will cost you an arm and a leg!

Very nice, fresh food however, the portions are about half the size shown in the photos (the £10 cheeseboard only had 3 small pieces of cheese and some crackers on a small plate for example)

Great to finally have a Spanish Tapas restaurant in Hertford, I feel it's long overdue. This is like an a la carte tapas menu, it can't be compared to Casa Lua in Ware as it is finer dining, so more expensive and refined. Am looking forward to popping in to try the wine and Charcuterie downstairs, it will be a fun experience I'm sure as the staff are very welcoming and friendly.

We were very excited that Hertford was to have it's own tapas restaurant...you must visit Anexo! They have managed to recreate Spanish fine dining into tapas sized plates. All the staff were excellent but special mention must go to Eduardo who gave us some brilliant recommendations with both food and wine. We really enjoyed our time here - the atmosphere was perfect and we will be coming again very soon. Please go and you can thank us later!

Fantastic Spanish tapas bar with outdoor seatings on Parliament Square. Exciting menu choices and super delicious fresh food. Patatas bravas (sweet potato dish) and jamon croquettes (ham) is a must :) Compliments to the chef!!
