Came here for a preprandial drink before going to the Grill restaurant. It's a great bar with superb staff - exactly what you would expect from the Savoy.

Was recommended to come here the next time we were back in London by my friend. So glad we did. The Savoy itself is fabulous. The American bar was excellent the staff were informative, helpful and friendly especially the young gentleman that served us. We had a couple of cocktails which were amazing and I also had a glass champagne which was also very nice. It was a real treat and an experience I would definitely recommend. We loved it so much that we will definitely be returning anytime we are in London.

We had a pleasant experience at the American Bar at the Savoy, but I wasn't massively impressed. The Savoy is quite an amazing place as you would expect. .. and the service was very good - although I don't recall anything special when we responded to the waitress to inform her that it was our son's 21st . The main reason we went was to have some special drinks in a special place with some good ambience. We all had cocktails .. and I don't think any of us were particularly impressed.. 60% of the glass is full of a large block of ice which has hardly begun to melt by the time you finish the drink... and the rest of the glass containing some rather bland cocktails. If I splash out on a cocktail, which we only do on special occasions .. (and we certainly did for the ones at the Savoy at £20-£28 each), I expect a bit of a taste "kick" and an alcoholic "punch". Our son had one of the Savoy specials, which had coffee in it. He commented that it was "watery". The same with the margarita that I had... the main taste I remember was salt.. which should complement the lime and triple sec.. but it was also weak. And the jazz was not very jazz at all. I remember one (maybe two) tracks that I'd call jazz - the rest was more pop. Pleasant background but please don't call George Ezra a jazz musician (I thought it was Elton John but apparently it was George Ezra). I don't really know what the rest was, but it was in a similar vein - bland like the cocktails. In summary, I'd say, i) Venue - excellent ii) Service - very good, iii) Drinks - v. poor iv) Music - disappointing. I was close to giving a "poor", but as we left feeling like it was a memorable and pleasant experience, I'll be generous and mark the the evening as being very "average" especially considering the price.

The Savoy is well known for luxury and elegance. The same is true for the cocktails at the American bar in The Savoy. You can't help but feel comfortable and at ease in the plush blue seating and bright marble adorning the walls. Our server Ben did an excellent job of walking us through their offerings and the thought process involved in the menu design. If you happen to visit, be sure to try: 1. Cardamom Angel Face. This is a twist on the original Angel Face cocktail. The addition of the Cardamom adds a herbaceous mysterious element to it. It's definitely a stand-out drink for me. I might be biased because I enjoy Calvados, but it's still a wonderful drink. 2. Jabberwock Sour. A sour with Kol Nut Tea, sign me up. They say we eat with our eyes, and the sight of this cocktail will make your mouth water. The foamy head and the tall, elegant glass just scream to be enjoyed. 3. Fine and Fancy. For the person in your life who loves a bubbly 🍾 elegant drink. Ingredients like Suze are made to be bitter, but when used properly, the bitter element adds to the overall profile of the drink. It's not bitter for bitter sake. You can't ignore the fact that this drink is a feast for the eyes. 4. Kings Cobbler. If you still have room, I suggest giving this cocktail a sip. Fruity, refreshing, and citrus forward what's not to like.

On sunday afternoon we arrived for pre drinks before our afternoon tea, the service was good, the wine was beautiful and good value, but what spoiled the occasion was a young couple bringing in a takeaway sandwiches, they began eating and making mess on the table and leaving there half eating sandwich on display, whilst other guest are enjoying the ambience of the bar, i really can't understand how they allow this, it's really poor for such a beautiful stunning bar

Everything was great. A little pricey but a lovely treat for my 65th birthday. What spoiled it for me was having to walk two flights of stairs , across a room, down more stairs and along the corridor to get to the ladies toilet. I am disabled and this was a horror to me, resulting in not being able to have a drink because I couldn’t go to the toilet. I can’t believe there are no nearer bathrooms. And I’m amazed no one is replying to this……

My partner and I have celebrated many special occasions here, and even more "just because" occasions 🍸 The American Bar has quickly become my favourite bar in London (perhaps the world). It's truly an experience like nothing else. The team there never fail to make you feel at home, with their warm welcomes and endless knowledge of their cocktails - I highly recommend asking them to explain their menus and cocktails to you ✨ I've tried a fair few of their signature cocktails (over the months) and am always delighted by the subtlety and depth of flavour. I particularly love the cocktails that are recommended by our waiter, they take great care to consider your personal tastes and preferences. Their current cocktail menu is beautifully curated and honours the history of The Savoy - the Tea o'Clock is a MUST try! Andrea (the manager) explained to us the process of making it - which involved many tests, fermentation, using real scones and clotted cream, all resulting in a delicate powdery pink drink that tastes EXACTLY like high tea 🫖 All of this is accompanied by live piano, soft murmurs from the tables around you, and delicious bar snacks - bliss! I already cannot wait to be back - see you all soon 🍸

Had booked the American Bar for a spot of lunch on Saturday and it was lovely. However the bathroom is down two flights of stairs then another corridor, im unstable on my feet so it was an ordeal to go to the bathroom. We had no reservations but had heard wonderful comments from our friends so we thought we would try to stop by for lunch. There was a large more formal area where people were having high tea. We walked past that area into a bar with comfortable seating around the room. This wasn’t a typical bar but what appeared to be an historic room with memorabilia on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. We had a fish plate that was quite large and very good, some tasty French fries, and three small hamburger sliders. The sliders were delicious.

How disappointing. We have been to the savoy before and once again decided to pop in on the spur of the moment for a warming drink. (Friday 29th December @ noon) Firstly we were misdirected by a young man in the foyer to go down the steps where we could enjoy coffee. On arrival told no. However a delightful young lady personally took us back up the stairs and again up to the american bar where we were greeted by most personable staff and seated. Our order was taken. Two Irish coffees. One black coffee with baileys and one very hot chocolate with a brandy on the side. It was expected that we would all drink our delights together. We were advised that the Irish coffees came with mince pies. Sadly all our requests arrived at different times. Irish coffees arrived without the mince pies that eventually arrived long after everything else. The brandy arrived long before the hot chocolate. The black coffee and baileys didn't come together either. It was only four people's drink. The bar was not busy. Savoy take note please...not up to your normal high standards. There was quite time lapses between deliveries to table.

Had a day in London and stopped for the first time (but not last!) for a swift pre-dinner drink, just because. Atmosphere is spot on: cosy, relaxed, and still refined and elegant. I ordered a gin martini with a twist of lemon and noted to the waiter that I *do* take vermouth and with only those specs, I received the best martini I've had (I'm rather used to having to practically make it myself at most bars!) Kudos to the barman! It was in fact so good that I decided to stop back for another after the meal. Only one quibble: while the first server was perfectly attentive to all guests, the second server I had was definitely more interested in checking on other customers than a solo guest - despite sort of flitting about my table numerous times, I was unable to make the eye-contact necessary to indicate that I'd like to pay my tab and ended up having to tap her shoulder when she finally got within reach.

American Bar is a historical bartending institution amongst cocktailogists... but maybe that's all it is. Or at least don't come here expecting the serious splendor and the craft of legend. It seems to be primarily coasting on good will and historical reputation. I met some friends here for a cocktail evening as they were staying at the Savoy. It is elegant, no doubt. With shiny polished metals, art deco-esque patterns, and the typical glitz and glamour associated with the Savoy. It surely doesn't disappoint in terms of décor and atmosphere. Staff are top notch of the hospitality industry, as expected. Not a sour face or unfriendly demeanor in the house. The pianist was also talented. But that's where the memorability ends. The cocktails sound decent and thoughtful on paper. Nothing groundbreaking. While the Last Call seemed tempting, the price tag wasn't (£40 seems steep even if it does have Glenfiddich 21). This bar is pretty standard in terms of prices. When any regular London cocktail bar is charging £14 a drink, the average here of £22 is pretty reasonable and expected. It's no doubt expensive but considering the place and city and it being 2024, it's not outrageous for a hotel at this level. That said, if I am paying £22 at the famous American Bar at the Savoy, I want to be wowed. The cocktails here are instantly forgettable. The names are cool, but the taste and presentation is not. I struggled to even recall what I ordered, that's how unimpressive they are. I did try the "Jove and Jive" which was essentially a suped up Manhattan. I will never claim to be a super-taster, but I'm okay at getting flavours. None of the alleged ingredients stood out except for the bourbon and vermouth. A real shame. I also gave their classics a shot and ordered a jenever Martinez, which was very well-made and tasted exactly how it should. So, perhaps it's their cocktail menu that is a little lacklustre and not the skill of the bartenders. I guess for a place that has been around so long, there are only so many ways to reinvent the wheel. It really only deserves 3 stars for me personally, but it was better than other luxury hotel bars I've given 3 stars for, so it's only fair since we can't give half-stars. And honestly, the staff was fantastic. I'm glad I finally got to try this historic bar, but I can't say I will rush to ever return. It just wasn't as fantastic as the cocktail books and blogs would have me believe.

4 of us went here for a drink after a wonderful lunch in the Savoy Grill. It was 3 o’clock in the afternoon with no one in the bar - we asked if we could have a drink (the bar looked closed) and we were told yes but you only have an hour and a half….. We were seated at a table in the middle and I asked if we could have one of the corner tables (all empty) but I was told no because it was reserved. No one arrived to sit at the table during our allotted hour and a half! Nice cocktails, obviously pricey, but with such aggressive, strict service and no atmosphere, we regretted not having gone elsewhere (No.1 Aldwych is always welcoming!).

Me and my dad make a habit of visiting London bi-annually, and each time we select a different restaurant and a few different bars to attend. On the recommendation of a co worker, we visited the American bar. Despite the bar being relatively empty we were sat incredibly close to another group, and I mean ridiculously close. We politely asked if we could be moved to one of the many other vacant tables, as to be able to engage in our own conversation without prying ears, and vice versa. We were rudely declined, despite a table for two next to us remaining vacant for forty minutes. The drinks were excellent, and the service was snappy, other than the hostess who was incredibly rude and demanded my father move his chair as to not block a party of eight who did not arrive for another half an hour. The chap with a moustache and a mullet thing going on was incredible, he was attentive, and very knowledgeable. Despite him, and the drinks being great. Can't help but feel let down.

The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the rather brusque way in which you're met at the door - the way you're told how long you've got the table for before being thrown out isn't very welcoming; it's wasn't done with any charm and I've never had that experience at the Dorchester or Claridges! We had a good time and didn't outstay our welcome, which seems to be important to the people staffing the entrance. Weirdly, it was quieter when we left than when we went in, so they didn't really need to take that charmless attitude with paying customers.

A fabulous afternoon celebrating our anniversary. The staff were lovely - helpful & professional. The cocktails were delicious & don’t get me started on the toilets! Heaven. Visiting here will become a new tradition each time we’re in London. Thank you.

The American Bar is not worth the time or cost. I looked forward to a special stop to see historical items (there were few) and have a good drink in this storied bar. They served the worst Old Fashioned ever and when I commented it was tasteless and weak, the waiter acted like he didn't know what that meant. I said it's missing an ingredient, try again pls. He took it back to the bar & they added a decoration cherry. Really, for $20. My friend's gin Collins was like water. Save your money, and effort to get there, and hit a neighborhood pub.

Delightful evening in the American Bar served by Isaac, who was absolutely brilliant. It’s not every day you get to talk about literature and sip Hemingway daiquiris in such a beautiful setting! A very memorable evening - thank you Isaac!

Lacking the ambiance of the wider Savoy Hotel, perhaps if one visits when a pianist is playing it has a bit more atmosphere. The art deco design is beautiful and cocktails are well-made, but wouldn't return in a hurry. I prefer the likes of The Ned.

Probably 1 of the best known bars in the world and the oldest surviving American style bar in London. This is not a bar I would go to often as the prices are actually quite high but for the experience and being able to taste their creations, it’s worth it. The feel is so old world and nostalgic. Amazing to see all the famous people that spent time here, their pics adorn the walls.

A huge disappointment. We can tell that over the years the bar has lost its panache. The reception was not very welcoming. We felt like we were disturbing the staff with our presence. If you go to a place like the American Bar you expect a certain level of service and quality, especially if you pay 35 £ for two non-alcoholic drinks. Our cocktails were watery and one glass was chipped, absolutely a no-go in a (former) top world class bar and hotel. Also, there should be a minimum dress code. What a disgrace.

This used to be one of my favourite places after work for a drink with colleagues. Unfortunately its really gone down hill recently. They used to have a really extensive wine list. Last week when we went, this had been reduced to a very short list with limited choice, all of my favourites were gone. The service was also dreadful. It took ages to get served and even getting an extra glass took 15 minutes. What made matters worse, it used to be that once you had a table, you were set for the evening. Now you get the table for an hour and a half, then get kicked out. I will not be going again, they have lost a regular customer and all the people I used to take with me.

First time visiting here on a very busy Friday evening. We didn’t have a reservation but we were seated right away. The space is very large and we were sat about as far from the actual bar as it was possible to be but the seating was comfortable and the setting was lovely, although it d say it lacked the elegance of other iconic hotel bars, such as the Rivoli Bar. I think this in part comes from having a much denser seating plan and having a lack of dress code. Staff were wonderful, first class device but not at all high minded or stuffy. It was busy so service wasn’t fast, but was relaxed and everything came as ordered and perfectly made. In terms of snacks there is a small menu of the usual hotel bar choices. We had lobster rolls which were delicious. Every member of staff we encountered in other areas of the hotel were wonderfully polite and welcoming, which makes such a difference as often one can be made to feel more of an inconvenience. We will be coming back again and cannot wait!

Great bar.. Sometimes difficult to get them to make an Oscar Wilde cocktail but they are usually ok with a Hemmigway.

Bought my son and his girlfriend for a drink before our lunch at the Grill. It was very quiet for a Bank Holiday, but it was nice enough. It’s my second time in the bar and even though the service is impeccable it’s just a bit quiet. My son and his girlfriend both work in hospitality and were fascinated by the bar and the hotel, and the history. I kind of wish I’d asked that they could watch the cocktails be made etc. I love The Savoy, and glad I could share with my family.

Amazing attentive staff trained to perfection. Just the right amount of attention. Great cocktails. Not cheap, but that’s what you’d expect at the Savoy.

we had not been to the american bar for many years but having just seen rick stein at the adelphi opposite we decided to pop across First it was a bit strange on walking up to the bar to find a lady by a pedestal in a sense “ guarding “ the entrance she asked for my name which i gave then we’re shown a rather poor table some distance from the bar but i requested a different table and it was found- nearer the bar . had 2 glasses of rose champagne and ( this was the reason i wanted to come ) a lobster roll my wife a salmon plate . The lobster roll was not like the one at the beaumont hôtel bar it was 3 very small rolls with a filling that could have been anything indeed was it lobster ? Not good., my wife the salmon listed as being with capers did not come with capers but on request they came .So with the passport control to the bar , the rather lobster less rolls and the caper less salmon allied to a slightly questioning staff who seemed to wonder why we were there at 9.45 in the evening we did not feel entirely comfortable .great shame as it used to be a favourite of ours as was the restaurant overlooking the entrance recently revived - this experience did not encourage us to return and try the restaurant .

Nipped in for a drink with my parents. Service was absolutely impeccable. Drinks were good, with ample selection. The downside was that the piano player took a "10 minute break" just after we sat down. We certainly took our time with our drinks, but he only just got back to the piano as we were about to leave. This was a real shame, since the piano is such an important part of the ambience here

We called at the Savoy American Bar after a show. We are teetotal so decided on a pot of Earl Grey tea.The staff , ambience & pianist were excellent and they deserve 5 stars. The tea was a little disappointing, it lacked the taste of a high end Earl Grey and I could only give 2 stars. The accompanying cookies were good.

We came to the Savoy for our first year anniversary, and started our evening at The American Bar. We sat at the bar and were greeted by two wonderful Bartenders, Luciano & Alex, who were so attentive and made sure our glasses were never empty! A special experience made by the wonderful atmosphere and exceptional customer service. If you want to go for drinks for a special occasion, this is your place
