We had an unforgettable experience at the American Bar at the Savoy. From the moment we arrived, we were pampered with exceptional service and warm hospitality. The cocktails were crafted to perfection, and as a special touch, we enjoyed complimentary vintage champagne. An outstanding evening—highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy classic elegance with a modern flair

Had a magical evening with my friends here at savoy’s famous American bar. The staff were as always the best you could ask for, Rachel you looked after us beautifully and Marilyn as always. We enjoyed food, and many unique cocktails. I described what I liked to to Rachel and they crafted a cocktail from scratch which was the best cocktail I’ve sipped in my life. We had great seats facing the grand piano played exquisitely by Harrison, who took song recommendations and played through the night. Thank you Savoy!

4 of us went here for a drink after a wonderful lunch in the Savoy Grill. It was 3 o’clock in the afternoon with no one in the bar - we asked if we could have a drink (the bar looked closed) and we were told yes but you only have an hour and a half….. We were seated at a table in the middle and I asked if we could have one of the corner tables (all empty) but I was told no because it was reserved. No one arrived to sit at the table during our allotted hour and a half! Nice cocktails, obviously pricey, but with such aggressive, strict service and no atmosphere, we regretted not having gone elsewhere (No.1 Aldwych is always welcoming!).

To me, this bar is definitely worth the cost. The drinks are always impeccable and the service is top notch. It's best to dress on the nicer side, but since this is essentially a hotel bar you'll be welcomed regardless of your outfit. I've only had the complementary nibbles, so I can't speak to the food.

Heard a lot about the place & decided on an impromptu visit to the American Bar. The reception as we entered the lobby was friendly enough but the guy who greeted us at the bar was acting rather supercilious as if he owned the place. Did we have a reservation, were we going to have dinner followed by ok we will give u a table but u need to leave by 645pm. Not once did he make us feel welcome nor did he smile. The tables were so close to one another that I was getting knocked every time someone passed by. Nicole our waitress was nice enuff though. Having been to many lovelier bars around the world it was very disappointing. For me it was a first & a last. There are so many other great places where I can go spend my money. I really wish I had bothered to get the guy’s name. All I remember is he was wearing an ill fitted suit that looked a couple of sizes too small 😏

Lovely bar. Professional staff. piano player who sings. So a lovely atmosphere with a feel of glamour. Cocktails are expensive but very nice, we shared ours so we tried 4 in all. Only negative is cost of course; £30 a drink. One thing which I thought was a bit naughty is that they don't list the full price for the drinks on the menu, they add the VAT on the bill, so be prepared for that.

Me and my dad make a habit of visiting London bi-annually, and each time we select a different restaurant and a few different bars to attend. On the recommendation of a co worker, we visited the American bar. Despite the bar being relatively empty we were sat incredibly close to another group, and I mean ridiculously close. We politely asked if we could be moved to one of the many other vacant tables, as to be able to engage in our own conversation without prying ears, and vice versa. We were rudely declined, despite a table for two next to us remaining vacant for forty minutes. The drinks were excellent, and the service was snappy, other than the hostess who was incredibly rude and demanded my father move his chair as to not block a party of eight who did not arrive for another half an hour. The chap with a moustache and a mullet thing going on was incredible, he was attentive, and very knowledgeable. Despite him, and the drinks being great. Can't help but feel let down.

It's a classy venue for sure, the drinks are well made (not cheap, but remember where you are) and the waiting staff are delightful and knowledgeable, they're more than happy to talk about their product. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the rather brusque way in which you're met at the door - the way you're told how long you've got the table for before being thrown out isn't very welcoming; it's wasn't done with any charm and I've never had that experience at the Dorchester or Claridges! We had a good time and didn't outstay our welcome, which seems to be important to the people staffing the entrance. Weirdly, it was quieter when we left than when we went in, so they didn't really need to take that charmless attitude with paying customers.

The American Bar is not worth the time or cost. I looked forward to a special stop to see historical items (there were few) and have a good drink in this storied bar. They served the worst Old Fashioned ever and when I commented it was tasteless and weak, the waiter acted like he didn't know what that meant. I said it's missing an ingredient, try again pls. He took it back to the bar & they added a decoration cherry. Really, for $20. My friend's gin Collins was like water. Save your money, and effort to get there, and hit a neighborhood pub.

A huge disappointment. We can tell that over the years the bar has lost its panache. The reception was not very welcoming. We felt like we were disturbing the staff with our presence. If you go to a place like the American Bar you expect a certain level of service and quality, especially if you pay 35 £ for two non-alcoholic drinks. Our cocktails were watery and one glass was chipped, absolutely a no-go in a (former) top world class bar and hotel. Also, there should be a minimum dress code. What a disgrace.

This used to be one of my favourite places after work for a drink with colleagues. Unfortunately its really gone down hill recently. They used to have a really extensive wine list. Last week when we went, this had been reduced to a very short list with limited choice, all of my favourites were gone. The service was also dreadful. It took ages to get served and even getting an extra glass took 15 minutes. What made matters worse, it used to be that once you had a table, you were set for the evening. Now you get the table for an hour and a half, then get kicked out. I will not be going again, they have lost a regular customer and all the people I used to take with me.

First time visiting here on a very busy Friday evening. We didn’t have a reservation but we were seated right away. The space is very large and we were sat about as far from the actual bar as it was possible to be but the seating was comfortable and the setting was lovely, although it d say it lacked the elegance of other iconic hotel bars, such as the Rivoli Bar. I think this in part comes from having a much denser seating plan and having a lack of dress code. Staff were wonderful, first class device but not at all high minded or stuffy. It was busy so service wasn’t fast, but was relaxed and everything came as ordered and perfectly made. In terms of snacks there is a small menu of the usual hotel bar choices. We had lobster rolls which were delicious. Every member of staff we encountered in other areas of the hotel were wonderfully polite and welcoming, which makes such a difference as often one can be made to feel more of an inconvenience. We will be coming back again and cannot wait!

The lobster roll was not like the one at the beaumont hôtel bar it was 3 very small rolls with a filling that could have been anything indeed was it lobster ? Not good., my wife the salmon listed as being with capers did not come with capers but on request they came .So with the passport control to the bar , the rather lobster less rolls and the caper less salmon allied to a slightly questioning staff who seemed to wonder why we were there at 9.45 in the evening we did not feel entirely comfortable .great shame as it used to be a favourite of ours as was the restaurant overlooking the entrance recently revived - this experience did not encourage us to return and try the restaurant .

We weren’t dressed for the Savoy but then again I wouldn’t say other guests were either. Even so it didn’t feel that welcoming. The front of house seemed reluctant and initially gave use poor seats. By the time we’d moved we were sat next to a guy on his own that seemed to think very highly of himself as he sat there in a quater zip jumper and Clark’s shoes. He occasionally glancing at us, trying to hide his displeasure, no doubt at our denim…? The waiting staff were knowledgeable and polite but seemed a little disingenuous in that way that trained but inexperienced hosts often can. We all had martinis. They were mixed well, but it was obvious that the glasses had not been chilled sufficient and thus the drinks were a little warmer than they should have been. In terms of décore, the place seemed dated rather than classically stylish; some of the furniture was even a bit tacky, in my humble opinion. We only stayed for one although we had time to kill and might have had more. It was disappointing because we had come directly from the excellent Lyle’s across time where we had lunch. The bar was a real contrast to the much more modern and friendly Lyle’s, which trades on current excellence rather than past glory. I probably won’t go back.

After visiting the Savoy Theatre we thought we would treat ourselves to a nightcap at the American Bar. Hopefully giving the hotel a chance to redeem itself after the terrible Afternoon Tea the Savoy served us earlier in the day. It didn’t redeem itself at all. We were seated in the dimly lit bar , the first person we saw was our waiter from Afternoon Tea off duty sipping champagne with his mother, Nathan , who was the only redeeming factor of the visit , offered us our drinks menu. There was nothing that took our fancy even though the menu was large. My wife in the fancied her go to cocktail, a strawberry daiquiris, we found it under BOTTLED drinks , what’s going on this is the Savoy hotel and they can’t make a daiquiris from scratch. Then to cap it off the piano player started up and that was the end of all conversation, the room isn’t that big and the piano drowned out everything. We left without ordering anything. How on earth the bar won Best Bar in 2018 I’ll never know . The Langhams is much better

We had pre dinner drinks and nibbles. Callum our waiter was very attentive and because my wife is dairy intolerant, he double checked everything. The service was quick and nibbles were continuously refilled. The drinks were superb. Will definitely be going there again.

The American bar is located in the Savoy hotel on the Strand. There are a limited number of tables for two that can be booked, otherwise there is a walk-in policy. The bar is art deco in style and very comfortable with excellent service and a nice, relaxed atmosphere. They have quite a relaxed dress code. There is an extensive cocktail menu, but as you would expect, the drinks are expensive, starting at around £24 for a cocktail. For a treat, it's definitely one to visit.

Cocktails were tasteless and nothing special for £26 I can get a better cocktail in slug and lettuce for £12 and these are buy one get one free. Place is smaller than it looks nothing much to it. My partners cocktail had a big ice block in it, once removed took the drink to half the glass. Not worth it. I wouldn’t bother nothing fancy about any of the cocktails! Glasses were standard glass tumblers. Overall it cost £60 for 2 cocktails with one not even being drank as was tastelss.

Visited the American bar for a big birthday - we were kept waiting for about 15 mins before anyone can to the desk and then waited some considerable time (we had to ask) for the drinks menu was provided. They cleared the table quickly in some cases before we’d completely finished our drinks. Michael, the pianist was great but this experience would make me think twice before visiting again. Such a shame as we have always loved visiting before

Lovely place for a drink and meet; all quite beautiful. The only issue was - l switched dark rum for Baccardi in a cocktail and was charged a supplement.

I arranged to meet a friend here on the Saturday before Christmas, and as there were no tables available for booking, I guessed it would be quite busy. However the staff member who greeted me on arrival could not have been more pleasant and helpful. She found us a table for two, near the bar and by a window which was lovely. She did say we could only have the table until 4 (I arrived at 2.30) but we actually stayed beyond that and none of the staff made us feel hurried or unwelcome. We each had a cocktail and then a glass of pink Nyetimber fizz. We also ordered the lobster rolls to share. Our waiter was Nathan and he was very attentive and helpful. He brought some olives and nibbles to the table while I was dithering about which cocktail to have and he topped these up once we had demolished them. I love the ambience of the American Bar, the staff are great and the drinks and food are excellent. Yes it is pricy but I expected it to be, it's the Savoy after all. Wonderful afternoon with one of my oldest friends, spent in a great location.

Used to love this place. Now it is just grim. Overpacked, nothing to recommend it really. Sad it has lost its fabulousness.

We went to the Savoy yesterday expecting a luxurious experience and were sadly disappointed. Admittedly, they were extremely busy being just two days before Christmas and I'm sure that at less busy times the service may be better. However, for a hotel of such stature, I would have thought they might be better prepared for this.  1) Service We were greeted at the reception stand with "you can have the table until 7pm", which was in just over one hour. This is not welcoming in the slightest and in fact translates to "we don't really care about you. The next guests are more important. Just pay us as much as you can fit in until 7pm then leave". You are very much left with the feeling that you aren't wanted. This was further confirmed when a flurry of staff came to the table. One took drinks, one served the nuts and olives, one brought the drinks, and another came round to top them up. I will say that the 4th waiter, Nathan, was very good. Having three others that seemingly did just half a job each before giving up and sending someone else over, is not a pleasant experience. Again, it shows they just don't care, and there is no personal touch. At a 5* hotel, and reportedly one of the best bars in the world, I don't think it would be too difficult to welcome us with, hello Mr and Mrs..... welcome back..... etc. I mean, they do know our names after all.  2) The bar itself It may be hard to comment on this because our table was far away from the bar. It was in the lobby area with the piano. Unfortunately, no one was playing the piano when we were there. The pianist walked around for twenty minutes or so, but then started at 7. The time we had to leave. The seating area itself was not special at all. The carpet was reminiscent of any hotel bar, but more closely resembling a holiday inn than one of London's finest. The table we were seated at also was not ideal as we could not sit together or opposite each other but had to sit at right angles, with a pillar between us.  3) Atmosphere The room itself was extremely hot and also very noisy. Some music, live or otherwise would have been welcome but all we could hear was other conversations competing to be heard with the tables around us.  4) Drinks. To be fair, we didn't have the cocktails but a bottle of wine so can't really comment. The cocktails looked great, it's just not my thing. 5) To sum up. I think it is unlikely that we will be returning. There are other bars in London, particularly the Connaught and Raffles at Ovo that are more luxurious and deliver what you should expect at a superior hotel. A shame.

Another fantastic experience in the American Bar! This time for my 'special' birthday. Warmly welcomed and made to feel like much valued guests as soon as we arrived. A particular mention for Isaac (and fellow northerner) who truly went out of his way to deliver the Savoy Service. Also the pianist, who is brilliant. Until next time!

Rude and unwelcoming. You cannot drink in this bar unless you wait 90 minutes for a table or you are a resident of the hotel. It’s really not worth the wait either - there are many much better options like Corinthia and Sofitel St James. Just avoid it if you can!

Iconic place with a dazzling history. We were warmly greeted for my sisters bday. Unfortunately we had to dash off to the Savoy theatre! My sister had the Kings cobbler and mine was the Cupid cockails. Orange based taste ! The piano man brought the house down! Service was brilliant too

I took my parents to The American Bar for cocktails as a special festive treat. We were lucky to get a table straight away and were very excited as this has become our Christmas tradition. Staff were pleasant and welcoming as always. The cocktail menu was varied with some very unusual and exciting drinks. Unfortunately our trip was let down when I asked for one of the cocktails on the menu to be made with vodka instead of gin. The waitress informed me that this would not be possible as the cocktails are pre-made. I was very shocked and disappointed to hear this. The American Bar is frequently up there in lists of the best cocktail bars in the world - surely somewhere of this calibre should make cocktails on demand. It is really unacceptable to charge up to £40 for pre-made cocktails. We had planned to stay for a few but this put us off and we left after one drink.

Booked in advance. Airport style security which I welcomed the evening was raining so cloudy but you could still see all the light display across Londons landmarks I'd bought the ticket with either complimentary cider or mulled wine unfortunately they had no cider so had to have mulled wine. Atmosphere was nice dj present also
