I highly recommend American bar to people who fell in love with cozy ambiance. The drink menu is extensive and well-curated, featuring a wide range of champagne, expertly mixed cocktails, and a selection of fine spirits. I had a wonderful experience at American bar. Thanks to @callum and @Ethan. From the moment we were seated, they greeted us with a warm smile and was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. Their suggestions were perfect, and they made sure our drinks were always refilled promptly.Looking forward to visit again. Thank you guys.

Lovely bar. Professional staff. piano player who sings. So a lovely atmosphere with a feel of glamour. Cocktails are expensive but very nice, we shared ours so we tried 4 in all. Only negative is cost of course; £30 a drink. One thing which I thought was a bit naughty is that they don't list the full price for the drinks on the menu, they add the VAT on the bill, so be prepared for that.

Excellence! We have tried to visit the American bar a couple of times and it was closed for renovations and the other times, it was fully booked. Finally we were able to get a table following a dinner reservation and we will defiantly be returning. We were in safe hands with our waiter, who was very knowledgeable and guided us through the various cocktails. The atmosphere was perfection and we cant recommend it enough. Definitely will be returning.

After a walking tour of the area we ticked off an iconic bucket list with a trip to the Savoy. After checking with the concierge that it was ok to just walk into the bar with no booking we ascended the stairs . Greeted and booked in and shown to our seats in this art deco style bar . They have a nice trick of actually greeting you by name and the staff always make you feel comfortable . After ordering a couple of drinks and snacking on the nibbles we also ordered a quick bite to eat . Fantastic experience and can't wait to go again Shout out to Ione for looking after us .

It's a classy venue for sure, the drinks are well made (not cheap, but remember where you are) and the waiting staff are delightful and knowledgeable, they're more than happy to talk about their product. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the rather brusque way in which you're met at the door - the way you're told how long you've got the table for before being thrown out isn't very welcoming; it's wasn't done with any charm and I've never had that experience at the Dorchester or Claridges! We had a good time and didn't outstay our welcome, which seems to be important to the people staffing the entrance. Weirdly, it was quieter when we left than when we went in, so they didn't really need to take that charmless attitude with paying customers.

The American Bar is not worth the time or cost. I looked forward to a special stop to see historical items (there were few) and have a good drink in this storied bar. They served the worst Old Fashioned ever and when I commented it was tasteless and weak, the waiter acted like he didn't know what that meant. I said it's missing an ingredient, try again pls. He took it back to the bar & they added a decoration cherry. Really, for $20. My friend's gin Collins was like water. Save your money, and effort to get there, and hit a neighborhood pub.

Probably 1 of the best known bars in the world and the oldest surviving American style bar in London. This is not a bar I would go to often as the prices are actually quite high but for the experience and being able to taste their creations, it’s worth it. The feel is so old world and nostalgic. Amazing to see all the famous people that spent time here, their pics adorn the walls.

A huge disappointment. We can tell that over the years the bar has lost its panache. The reception was not very welcoming. We felt like we were disturbing the staff with our presence. If you go to a place like the American Bar you expect a certain level of service and quality, especially if you pay 35 £ for two non-alcoholic drinks. Our cocktails were watery and one glass was chipped, absolutely a no-go in a (former) top world class bar and hotel. Also, there should be a minimum dress code. What a disgrace.

This used to be one of my favourite places after work for a drink with colleagues. Unfortunately its really gone down hill recently. They used to have a really extensive wine list. Last week when we went, this had been reduced to a very short list with limited choice, all of my favourites were gone. The service was also dreadful. It took ages to get served and even getting an extra glass took 15 minutes. What made matters worse, it used to be that once you had a table, you were set for the evening. Now you get the table for an hour and a half, then get kicked out. I will not be going again, they have lost a regular customer and all the people I used to take with me.

First time visiting here on a very busy Friday evening. We didn’t have a reservation but we were seated right away. The space is very large and we were sat about as far from the actual bar as it was possible to be but the seating was comfortable and the setting was lovely, although it d say it lacked the elegance of other iconic hotel bars, such as the Rivoli Bar. I think this in part comes from having a much denser seating plan and having a lack of dress code. Staff were wonderful, first class device but not at all high minded or stuffy. It was busy so service wasn’t fast, but was relaxed and everything came as ordered and perfectly made. In terms of snacks there is a small menu of the usual hotel bar choices. We had lobster rolls which were delicious. Every member of staff we encountered in other areas of the hotel were wonderfully polite and welcoming, which makes such a difference as often one can be made to feel more of an inconvenience. We will be coming back again and cannot wait!

The lobster roll was not like the one at the beaumont hôtel bar it was 3 very small rolls with a filling that could have been anything indeed was it lobster ? Not good., my wife the salmon listed as being with capers did not come with capers but on request they came .So with the passport control to the bar , the rather lobster less rolls and the caper less salmon allied to a slightly questioning staff who seemed to wonder why we were there at 9.45 in the evening we did not feel entirely comfortable .great shame as it used to be a favourite of ours as was the restaurant overlooking the entrance recently revived - this experience did not encourage us to return and try the restaurant .

Said ok we will wait so took my number then said oh we may have something now. Within 10 minutes had a text to say we had a table ?? Just ruined the experience. We weren’t dressed for the Savoy but then again I wouldn’t say other guests were either. Even so it didn’t feel that welcoming. The front of house seemed reluctant and initially gave use poor seats. By the time we’d moved we were sat next to a guy on his own that seemed to think very highly of himself as he sat there in a quater zip jumper and Clark’s shoes. He occasionally glancing at us, trying to hide his displeasure, no doubt at our denim…? The waiting staff were knowledgeable and polite but seemed a little disingenuous in that way that trained but inexperienced hosts often can. We all had martinis. They were mixed well, but it was obvious that the glasses had not been chilled sufficient and thus the drinks were a little warmer than they should have been. In terms of décore, the place seemed dated rather than classically stylish; some of the furniture was even a bit tacky, in my humble opinion. We only stayed for one although we had time to kill and might have had more. It was disappointing because we had come directly from the excellent Lyle’s across time where we had lunch. The bar was a real contrast to the much more modern and friendly Lyle’s, which trades on current excellence rather than past glory. I probably won’t go back.

After visiting the Savoy Theatre we thought we would treat ourselves to a nightcap at the American Bar. Hopefully giving the hotel a chance to redeem itself after the terrible Afternoon Tea the Savoy served us earlier in the day. It didn’t redeem itself at all. We were seated in the dimly lit bar , the first person we saw was our waiter from Afternoon Tea off duty sipping champagne with his mother, Nathan , who was the only redeeming factor of the visit , offered us our drinks menu. There was nothing that took our fancy even though the menu was large. My wife in the fancied her go to cocktail, a strawberry daiquiris, we found it under BOTTLED drinks , what’s going on this is the Savoy hotel and they can’t make a daiquiris from scratch. Then to cap it off the piano player started up and that was the end of all conversation, the room isn’t that big and the piano drowned out everything. We left without ordering anything. How on earth the bar won Best Bar in 2018 I’ll never know . The Langhams is much better

I arranged to meet a friend here on the Saturday before Christmas, and as there were no tables available for booking, I guessed it would be quite busy. However the staff member who greeted me on arrival could not have been more pleasant and helpful. She found us a table for two, near the bar and by a window which was lovely. She did say we could only have the table until 4 (I arrived at 2.30) but we actually stayed beyond that and none of the staff made us feel hurried or unwelcome. We each had a cocktail and then a glass of pink Nyetimber fizz. We also ordered the lobster rolls to share. Our waiter was Nathan and he was very attentive and helpful. He brought some olives and nibbles to the table while I was dithering about which cocktail to have and he topped these up once we had demolished them. I love the ambience of the American Bar, the staff are great and the drinks and food are excellent. Yes it is pricy but I expected it to be, it's the Savoy after all. We went to the Savoy yesterday expecting a luxurious experience and were sadly disappointed. Admittedly, they were extremely busy being just two days before Christmas and I'm sure that at less busy times the service may be better. However, for a hotel of such stature, I would have thought they might be better prepared for this.  1) Service We were greeted at the reception stand with "you can have the table until 7pm", which was in just over one hour. This is not welcoming in the slightest and in fact translates to "we don't really care about you. The next guests are more important. Just pay us as much as you can fit in until 7pm then leave". You are very much left with the feeling that you aren't wanted. This was further confirmed when a flurry of staff came to the table. One took drinks, one served the nuts and olives, one brought the drinks, and another came round to top them up. I will say that the 4th waiter, Nathan, was very good. Having three others that seemingly did just half a job each before giving up and sending someone else over, is not a pleasant experience. Again, it shows they just don't care, and there is no personal touch. At a 5* hotel, and reportedly one of the best bars in the world, I don't think it would be too difficult to welcome us with, hello Mr and Mrs..... welcome back..... etc. I mean, they do know our names after all.  2) The bar itself It may be hard to comment on this because our table was far away from the bar. It was in the lobby area with the piano. Unfortunately, no one was playing the piano when we were there. The pianist walked around for twenty minutes or so, but then started at 7. The time we had to leave. The seating area itself was not special at all. The carpet was reminiscent of any hotel bar, but more closely resembling a holiday inn than one of London's finest. The table we were seated at also was not ideal as we could not sit together or opposite each other but had to sit at right angles, with a pillar between us.  3) Atmosphere The room itself was extremely hot and also very noisy. Some music, live or otherwise would have been welcome but all we could hear was other conversations competing to be heard with the tables around us.  4) Drinks. To be fair, we didn't have the cocktails but a bottle of wine so can't really comment. The cocktails looked great, it's just not my thing. 5) To sum up. I think it is unlikely that we will be returning. There are other bars in London, particularly the Connaught and Raffles at Ovo that are more luxurious and deliver what you should expect at a superior hotel. A shame.

Staff were pleasant and welcoming as always. The cocktail menu was varied with some very unusual and exciting drinks. Unfortunately our trip was let down when I asked for one of the cocktails on the menu to be made with vodka instead of gin. The waitress informed me that this would not be possible as the cocktails are pre-made. I was very shocked and disappointed to hear this. The American Bar is frequently up there in lists of the best cocktail bars in the world - surely somewhere of this calibre should make cocktails on demand. It is really unacceptable to charge up to £40 for pre-made cocktails. We had planned to stay for a few but this put us off and we left after one drink.

Apparently it had been made and served to someone else! No atmosphere, poor service and made to feel that we were not welcome. Will not be going again.

A repeat visit. Well.. this visit turned out to be one of my most enjoyable starts to a London night out (that continued elsewhere for dinner) in the post covid era. This experience at the iconic American bar was everything (and more) and we had hoped for. A wonderful greeting A fabulous table Superb 'beverages engaging piano bar music delicious table food which became our starter for the evening Chelsie and Giuseppe were professional, attentive and made wonderful hosts. This visit was so impressive and enjoyable and is exactly how remembered the American bar from years ago. We intend exploring more of the Savoy, including the restaurants.

Booked a table in the American Bar at the Savoy for a birthday celebration. Although we were early for our table they did let us in with the front desk reminding us that the clock starts when you sit down. The waiting staff were excellent and very friendly and there is a good choice of cocktails. We were sat in an area away from the main bar where the piano is and to be honest we could have been in any bar. The tables around the edges are so close together that there is no privacy whatsoever. Unfortunately not a place I would visit again it lacks any real buzz and probably overrated. Would have been nice to actually have seen the bar.

We booked the American Bar as we were staying in the Savoy for my partners birthday. We started off with drinks and our waiter was Andrea I believe he was very welcoming and friendly we stared our stay with champagne which’s was lovely and great treat. We had booked the bar for the evening and we had oysters, hot dogs and fries our strange combination was ever so enjoyable. We then tried a number of cocktails on the menu and also not on the menu. They can make anything I believe that takes your fancy. Whilst sitting relaxing we enjoyed the piano being played and some impressive singing. I interacted with a number of the staff all lovely, friendly and helpful. As it was my partners birthday he was given a selection of scrumptious cakes. The bar has a wonderful atmosphere and so much history. Thank you All for making our visit so enjoyable

Visited for my girlfriend's birthday as a special evening and got worried in advance by some of the recent mixed reviews. Glad we stuck to it, it was great. First things first: it's expensive. Obviously it is. It's the Savoy. That said, the "Olive 22" is the best cocktail I have ever had. At £22 it's pricey but it's say £4-5 more than some really average drinks you might get in upmarket east London bars nowadays. For the sheer quality plus atmosphere I don't think it's that crazy. Also for access to one of London's great culinary experiences/rooms/historic spaces, you can have 1-2 drinks and pay much less than you would for an unsatisfying average meal in Soho nowadays. On the atmosphere, this is where I really don't get some of the below reviews. Admittedly we sat right at the bar which was quite special. But a) anyone can do that - you just book in advance and request to sit there. B) there's a room adjacent to the bar which is also lovely. Admittedly the entry lounge is probably a bit less special feeling but it's still a pretty beautiful and luxe space, nothing like an "airport lounge" or whatever total nonsense someone was saying downthread. It all feels like what it is - one of the most prestigious hotels in the world. It's not subtle or hip, but if you want that you're not coming here. The staff are great. It was such a pleasure to watch a super skilled bartender at work and he was super friendly without being overbearing. The cocktail list is an interesting balance of novel and classic which I think gets the tone right for what you're coming here for. For me personally I'd have some more options on the less sweet side of things but a lot of people won't agree with that. The glassware, presentation, execution are all subtle and pretty special. I obviously won't be coming here with any regularity because I'm not a billionaire but if you want a silly fancy drink in a luxe space; or if you want to see one of London's most important culinary heritage spaces without taking out a mortgage on a Michelin star meal, give this a try!

The last stop for my birthday day out, hubby and I visited for a cocktail (I hadn't been back here for years!). It has changed, had a one hour time slot and it was busy but coats not automatically taken off you until someone else needed the seat next to us then they were removed. Lovely pianist/singer. Enjoyed my dry martini and the bar snacks. Service was excellent from our waiter Nathan.

To Nathan, Thank you for serving me on a Friday night, 1 Sep. The martini with a lemon twist was just what I needed. You have been most courteous and friendly. All the best and see you there soon! To Jonny, You made my time in American Bar that much more pleasant with your approach and willingness to tell me everything I wanted to know and more. I'll come back some time soon to tell you more about cars and Croatia! Will try some recipes from the book!

I’ve been going to the American Bar on and off for years but was disappointed this time - it’s all changed and has lost its charm. Service was perfunctory, we were told we could only stay for 90 mins, & were left too long without service. My best drink in the world is (was) their whiskey sour - velvety perfection - but this time it was good to OK but not great. It was served over ice instead of their traditional straight up. When they served straight up it was in an over-wide champagne coupe, uncomfy to drink from. The bottom of the glass was wet so kept sticking to the coaster. Little details like this show the service has slipped. I asked for the traditional flute and got a flute with a really extended over-long stem. What in earth for? If all seemed too “flashy” with silly glasses instead of the understated traditional sophisticated style I am used to - and the quality of the drink has dipped to “average” so not sure I will go again. It’s not worth the price if it is no longer absolute perfection re service and drinks as it once was. What a shame. I loved it there.

Had drinks here while staying at the hotel. Everyone around us were given complimentary snacks. Not us. It was so strange , We had to ask and then they were brought to us. Was it that we were 4 women and everyone around us were couples ? Or just poor service .

We had a very lovely visit to the American Bar, apparently on the first Monday that they opened before 4pm. Quite quiet when we first arrived around 3.30pm but Gloria and another guy where really welcoming and attentive. Had a couple of cocktails and champagne and it was really a lovely experience. Our friends from Scotland’s first time in London thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Savoy. On another note. While I made sure everyone in our party had dressed correctly and I had taken time to check out the dress code, I was disappointed to see a group of guys come in shortly after us wearing joggers and tatty trainers! That was the only negative point I would make on an otherwise wonderful experience is that some other ‘guests’ weren’t dressed as I thought they should have considering the surroundings.

Great cocktails and ambiance! Highly recommended. In particular the "stomping at the Savoy"! The decor in elegant Deco style and the Josephine Baker theme aquarelle was additional. But, just come for the cocktails.

We have visited this bar on many occasions and not sure what has happened with the staff. We was appointed a very nice corner table, however the service was very poor. We waited 40 mins before receiving menus then after ordering a bottle of champagne we again waited and was given four flutes, one of which didn’t get fully filled. The waitresses returned with a fresh bottle and completed the glass. Given that we ordered a full bottle and not individual glasses was odd. We didn’t want to be kept waiting longer as we had a dinner reservation and wanted to celebrate our party’s birthday celebrations so, we continued. We then opted for a cocktail, which again took forever! The bar wasn’t even at full capacity….. When we asked for the bill we had only been charged for 2 glasses of champagne, not 4. I had to go and look for the waiter as there was nobody around to explain this to. There was no thanks whatsoever for pointing this out! We paid the bill and left and unfortunately will not be in a hurry to return unless service changes. Very disappointing start to our celebrations.

We visited the bar for drinks on Saturday afternoon. We arrived when the bar opened and were seated immediately in a lovely area for the 7 of us. We stayed for a couple of hours and had a mix of cocktails, beers during our visit - the cocktails are exceptional. We also had the cheese, meat and salmon platters which were also very good. The service was excellent - the server did get a couple of orders wrong but as she did it from memory rather than writing it down that was not too bad. Such a lovely bar with a great atmosphere and in a beautiful hotel. We will definitely visit again.
