This was a really great restaurant but sadly not as good as it once was. Service was poor, orders were mixed up and the cost is much more than it is worth. Food is still high quality but a little gem is no longer sparkling.

A real shame as it's my local Thai and has substantially gone downhill. Both the red and panang curries were filled with too much coconut milk lacking flavour. The beef was dry and over cooked. I have lived here for 14 years and that was definitely not the case before.

Got a seat next to a heater, really great service and the food was excellent. Only downside was the cocktails which either didn’t have enough alcohol or were probably far too diluted. Would definitely visit again minus the cocktails!

After several successful visits over the last year or so, tonight was a disappointment and bordering on poor rather than average, so I am being generous with 3 stars. The food was tasty enough and the wine very drinkable. When we arrived the restaurant was full and despite reserving a table well in advance, we were given what must have been the worst table in the place. If it wasn't for the fact that we were hungry and were on a time limit we would have walked. The table was next to the toilet, opposite a store cupboard, had a view of a rubbish bin and was also next to the washing up room with clattering dishes all night. Service was surly to say the least, one waitress was OK the other was rude, dismissive and clearly didn't want to be there. Sadly, the overall experience tonight means that we won't return and will look next time towards Clapham Junction where we know there are some Thai restaurants that actually want your custom. I seriously considered removing the added automatic 12.5% service charge from the bill but couldn't be bothered with the hassle so just paid up and left. Disappointing in the extreme!

I am seriously taken aback when I see some positive reviews on this restaurant - the food is all microwaved or pre-prepared, totally lacks flavour and is overpriced. It has been like that for a few years now and when I have it a new chance last week I wish I had not. If you have no clue about the beautiful flavours of honest Thai food, by all means go and have some overpriced rice, but if you like and understand Thai, don’t even consider it! If I could give zero, I would.

Being new to the area we needed somewhere to have a local meal and our preferred option had fallen through, after checking out the menu online we decided to try Cafe Amaranth, and it surpassed all expectations. First of all, we both ordered dishes with chicken and unlike those restaurants that will only put 2 or 3 pieces of meat in your main dish, both the stir fried noodles and the noodle soup had a considerable amount! Portions were also great for the price, in other Thai restaurants I have tried the portions have been small, which kept me away from Thai restaurants for quite some time, but now we have found this place we will definitely be going back. I had the Laksa noodle soup, and it was amazing. The two staff members who looked after us during our visit were also so polite and friendly. The man who I think was the manager came to check that we were enjoying our meal and he seemed genuinely so pleased that we were happy with it.

We got a takeaway from here and the food was nice and tasty. My only complaint would be that some of the curries didn't have a veggie option and that meant that as a veggie there wasn't a huge amount of choice! Also, I ordered online and asked for tofu to be added to my veggie green curry but it wasn't. I would happily go or get another takeaway from there again though.

We visited Amaranth last night following a good experience a while ago. I had booked in advance requesting a window table and we were fortunate that on a warm night, we had a table next to the fully opening sliding windows. House wine by the glass is very well priced and drinkable so we had a few! Between the three of us we ordered the supreme mixed platter for 2 plus a separate portion of Edamame Beans. This was a perfect way to start the meal with delicious prawns, chicken satay, duck spring rolls etc. The Edamame beans were salty and delicious. For a main course my wife opted for a salad that although we asked for it to have little heat, came quite hot and spicy. Perhaps next time we will say no heat! The other diners in our group opted for the Chicken Stir Fry with cashew nuts, one with Jasmine Rice whilst I opted for fried rice. The stir fry and the rice were both delicious. The restaurant on a Thursday evening was totally full plus many take aways were being collected and delivered, judging by the quality of the food I can see why. The total bill including service charge, wine and generous and tasty food was £27 a person. A bargain and one we will repeat.

We went to Amaranth on a quiet Monday evening as we wanted to eat local and a Thai meal suited. Service was very friendly and we ordered House white, red and rose wine. All were very drinkable and reasonably priced. We had a range of shared starters comprising Edamame beans, Chicken Satay and Ginger Chicken skewers, all of which were delicious. My wife ordered a salad for a main course and be warned, it is served spicy so if you don't want it too chilli hot, make sure you stress this when ordering. My daughter and I both went for chicken stir fry dishes with Jasmine rice - delicious. The bill, that included 12.5% service charge, was extremely reasonable and we all left saying we had a pleasant meal and would happily return.

Despite calling 9 times, the calls to the restaurant were diverted to a voicemail that was never responded to (on a Friday night!!). My husband then drove to to see what was happening as we had paid online and was offered a 20% discount off our next order.....no level of customer service, the order would have never arrived and no apology.

Went in to collect takeaway, was ready a full 10 mins later than estimated on the phone, and only after I asked several times how long it would be. Wouldn’t be so bad to wait 10 extra mins for good food but gosh it’s the worst pad Thai I’ve had in a long time - tastes like they’ve got a pre-mixed sauce they tip over noodles and a bit of chicken. Kitchens and wait staff all seemed a bit chaotic and multiple delivery drivers coming in to collect orders so appears they’re compromising on quality to serve too many customers at once.

Well what can say. We decided to eat at this venue after a long day of moving house. This would be our last meal in Earlsfield and we've always fancied trying this Thai venue. We thought we'd be able to pop in for a quick round of curry maybe even some noodles. But sadly it was not to be. We had to wait to be seated, and then left to our own devices for 20 mins we finally managed to order beers, starters and mains. The beers turned up after 10 mins, we drunk the beers and then had to wait a whole hour before we managed to get the waitresses attention to bring our food. She then forgot our starters and brought out our mains. No apologies just sticking the food in front of us. The food was good put didn't make up for the time we spent waiting. When the bill came service had been added, although we had made it quite clear that we weren't happy. A poor ending to our time in Earlsfield.

The chicken was from the freezer. It was very dry. Pad krapow is supposed to made with tiny morsals of meat. This was just large chunks of boiled crubbish. Girlfriend's red duck curry was slightly better but not great. Again duck was just mass produced frozen drivel. This was spicier than my dish even though on the menu mine was supposed to be very hot. Here is a restaurant owner that is jaded and complacent. The menu promises mostly classic authentic Thai dishes but the ingredients are those of a kitchen that can't be bothered to source and combine anything other than the most basic sources that may have come out of a bottle. Our sweet and sour spare ribs were boiled and virtually tasteless. Without the assistance of some painted on cloying source to liven then up they would have been sent back. The 'tempura' soft shell crab was soggy, the weeping sizzling beef had no trace of a Thai herb, and pullet chicken, a 'chef's special', tasted, well it tasted a like chicken and not much else. The salad upon which it rested, was acceptable. There was one bright spot in an otherwise pedestrian dining experience, the prawn salad had a conglomeration of herbs, including lemongrass, chillies, lime juice, coriander and perfectly cooked warm prawns to make it a dish worth eating. The service was indifferent. The meal for two adults and a teenager came to £73 plus service. We won't be going back.

We arrived unreserved on the evening of Friday 18th Dec, when the World seemed to be finishing work for the Hols, but were welcomed and directed straight to a table. On enquiring, we were assured that the shank was slow cooked to tender perfection - and it didn't disappoint. My only slight quibble is that we asked if it came with anything, as a guide to what else to order and were told it just came 'on its own'. On its arrival, we found several halves of baby potatoes reclining decadently in the delicious nut sauce! After soft-shelled crab and tempura prawns and the side orders of pak-choi & broccoli and coconut rice, this proved to be a bit of a challenge...Service was enthusiastic, efficient, prompt and nicely cheeky - "Small or Large Singha beer? - Aah - two big men must be two big beers..."Nice One, Amaranth.

That's the place in a nutshell. Very nice food, not great but good enough but the service is terrible. Waited an hour and a half for our main course this evening! The place has expanded by about three times but still has the same number of staff. And is it just me but I can't stand it when you have waited for ever for someone to bring you a drink or food but the owner just ignores you? Tonight she spent the entire time thumbing receipts and going through the till roll. PUT THEM DOWN AND HELP OUT! A very good local restaurant is going down the pan.

Delicious thai food, well worth a visit, in the Earslfield area of London. Inexpensive, yummy pad thai, tamarind duck. A huge hit with all the family. They also offer takeaways too - perfect for a night in when you can't be bothered to cook!!

Lovely restaurant, the service is somewhat slow in places but the food (from what we had) can not be criticised. Very popular with local Earlsfield people.

I love Thai food and like to try different Thai restaurants and also cook it myself. The food quality here is below average. I love Thai fish cakes and make it myself so I can tell a good one from a bad one, and the ones in Amaranth, I am sorry to say were terrible. My cod dish was rubbery and dry, the sauce was awful. The curries were below average. The place feels like it needs a good clean, we sat next to a white wall which was full of dirty marks.I will not be returning and will advise you to look elsewhere if you want decent Thai.

I've just had an early dinner with my friend in Earlsfield - we went to this amazing Thai place .. The Thai beef salad was just brilliant .. A couple of cold beers and the scallops .. Glorious day outside .. Some nice chatter inside and great atmosphere .. My friend had the fish tamarind which I tasted and it was equally impressive - when the bill came it was great value . I will definitely be back and can recommend this place 100% - what a gem and right near the tube ...

I used yo visit here years ago when I lived in the area, so as I was passing I thought I'd introduce the place to my partner. If was lunchtime and it seemed closed, but on further inspection we saw a staff member who then opened the side door for us. We had a mixed starter for two, followed by Laksa & chicken green curry. Both dishes were flavourful but the Laksa was very special. The right amount of heat from the chilli and sweetness from the coconut. As I have been here many times before I didn't take notice of the reviews here, so I'm surprised to read so many negative ones now. It's a shame because both the restaurant and shop serve good quality product. But I agree the service at the restaurant is not great, but in the shop across the road (where we went to purchase ingredients to recreate our meal at home) was superb.

A friend of mine has recently moved to the area, and as we both like thai food, we went to try this place. The restaurant was pretty much empty, yet all the staff was completely ignoring us and it took ages before someone took our orders. The food was alright, but rather average. When we wanted to order a dessert, they were all ignoring us again, so after about half an hour we just gave up.

We live nearby and have visited two or three times. The service is consistently slow, the food is fine: nice, but not incredible, with occasional disappointments, and now it is no longer BYO it isn't particularly good value either. We want it to be great, but sadly it just isn't. No more chances!

It was my first experience to Amaranth and I have to say that me and my family really enjoy the dinner. The starter that we share was very tasty, I love it. Pak thai (i hope I wrote correctly) was very nice and the soup spicy and yummy. The girls were very polite and service was on perfect timing. Next time I fancy thai definately I will go back to Amaranth.

Amaranth used to be a lovely restaurant with a good vibe and good fresh Thai food.... Over the last 4/5 years it has gone worse and worse.... starters are re - heated in the microwave and mains taste oriental(-ish) but certainly not Thai. It is ok for dinner with a large group of friends for the sake of grabbing something quick and average, but it is certainly not where to go for good food. There are lots of great restaurants in Earlsfield and this is by far the worst.

This is a reveiw for the takeaway of thsi restaurant in Earlsfield. We have had food from here many times, and it has generally always been pretty good. Last night however, after eating a Pad Thai, my wife began to feel unwell about three hours afterwards, and then spent the whole night up with faily agressive food poisoning. I had different dish and was fine. My wife called the restaurant today to let them know. NOt because we were looking for a freebie, but so that they could perhaps check the Pad Thai, or perhaps see if the particular staff memmeber who made it was unwell etc. so that they don't do the same to someone else. She was given the brush off, with them stating that "the chicken for both meals was from same batch, and no one else has complained, so can't be us". This is a disgraceful attitude for any restaurant/takeaway. Firstly, there is egg in a pad thai that may well have been the difference, but regardless, I would expect any restaurant to take a customers notice that they had been unwell, serious enough to at least say they will investigate. Clearly throwing away a batch of pad thai, checking on staff and cleaning down a few surfaces for that section is more hassle for them that its worth to mitigate the risk of potentially poisoning a few other people. Shame as this was a nice local takeaway we enjoyed often, but I can't consider eating here again when they respond with this kind of attiude.

Turned up at ten past 9pm to be given an admonishing look with a 'You booked for 8.30' in a quarter full restaurant. (I had in fact rung to say we'd arrive at 9pm). A table by faulty air-con was pointed out to our group of four - (very different from being shown to your table). Various people fiddled with the air-con next to us but it was freezing so we moved to the adjoining room. I sat at a table for 4 but it had a diary on it and was told not to sit there. I pushed two tables together to make a four. A waitress came over and gave us menus though we'd already placed our order. We did kind of know at this point that this wasn't going to work out. Our restaurant radar is pretty sharp and we had a brief conversation about bailing out, cutting our losses and leaving. We didn't - big mistake. The food is terrible, the service poor and unwelcoming. We left half the food and got out quickly. £90 quid for four including a cold bottle of Malbec. My daughter felt unwell and was ill in the night - which probably cannot be attributed to the restaurant - as the rest of us weren't sick. My advice - if you know a place doesn't feel right - trust your instincts and leave! (I wish I'd trusted mine). Best avoid this place.

We visited here for the first time yesterday.Thai green curry was bland. Thai beef salad was atrocious. Beef was as tough as leather. I asked for a knife and it was incredibly difficult to cut. I suspect it was a cut of beef more suitable for braising than flash frying. The place was very busy and we can't really work out why.We will not go there again.

The restaurant recently expanded- There are 2 rooms on the ground floor and 1 room in the basement. On the other side of Earlsfield station there is it's Take-Away and Store branch.I love Thai food and the food that is offered at this restaurant is very tasty ad fresh. There is a good choice of dishes on the menu. The service is good and quick. The prices are reasonable, not the cheapest I've seen for this sort of food but neither were they overpriced. The reason I will not give 5 starts is that the restaurant is no longer BYO.

Really good Thai food, served with a smile. The only thing was I didn't think it had enough spice but thats just a personal preference. Value whys it was £20 per head for 2 courses and drinks which isn't half bad in London. We will be going back.

Recommended to us so were expecting a really authentic experience. Cooked beef and chicken had just been added to sauces and not marinated or cooked in them. Asked for glasses of water which were warm. Service was over efficient initially and then became non existent, except for the persistent desire to top up our wine - our finished plates sat in front of us for over twenty minutes until we asked for the bill.We were just visiting the area and live 'out in the sticks' in North East Essex but we certainly enjoy better Thai meals out there than this offering.

We had been to this restaurant several times before, but not in the last 18 months. Since our last visit, the restaurant has expanded significantly and now has a booze licence (it is no longer BYO). Although the food was very tasty and reasonably priced, the portions were a bit on the small size. My wife and I had two starters, two mains, and rice and were left a bit hungry. But, the food was very good.Although the BYO aspect was not the main attraction to us, it was always a benefit. Since this change and the expansion, there is little that makes this restaurant stand out above others in the area.

I've visited Amaranth many times and their take-away it's always good. if know what you want to order, call them 10 minutes before you show up and beat the queue in the evening. I haven't been to the restaurant recently, so I can't comment but it used to be good and offer a different menu. Really upset to hear that they don't let you BYO wine anymore. However I personally prefer booking downstairs - saves you from getting your clothes smelly because of sitting near the kitchen upstairs.

Once packed and buzzing this place expanded, did away with its BYO booze policy and seems to have crashed and burned. Having been back twice since the changes the food was nice enough but the service quite poor verging on rude and the new wine list not impressive. Serving stale prawn crackers isn't a great idea either. Oh dear.

Amaranth is a great place for Thai food. A very comprehensive menu that will appease any customer and for good value. Up until recently, this used to be BYOB (Bring your own booze) and has since changed to not being so. However, the sign on the door says BYO with tiny small print (lesson to be learned here) that states that it no longer does this. Of course when you pitch up with a bottle of wine unknowingly, you will be turned away. We drank the wine outside and went in afterwards, after all it was an honest mistake. Overall, good food, NOT BYO, and well priced. Try not to reserve a table downstairs as it's a bit dingy in the basement.

Charming spot with authentic Thai flavors; great service and cozy atmosphere. Must-visit! The pad Thai and green curry are standout dishes, and the cocktails complement the meal perfectly.
