Alverbank Hotel, Restaurant & Bar in Gosport

Place is wonderful with a beautiful view of the sea we come every year for our wedding anniversary as our wedding reception was here! Food was amazing and customer service was awesome especially from anisha

A small group of us visited Comedy at the Alverbank, which is hosted by Jake once a month. This month was in aid of Comic Relief, and as usual it was an entertaining and fun-filled evening! Jake makes everyone feel welcome with his quick wit. The tickets are excellent value for money and there is an option to eat. All the Alverbank staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. Kerry, on the door, escorts you to your seat, always with a smile on her face. Anisha will take your drinks orders, Meg and Tegan serve behind the bar and Lottie serves your food. The food is always delicious and Thursday night was no exception. Thanks must go to Chefs Francis and Adam for this. They can cater for any dietary requirement and will alter or amend anything to suit. Finally, Thanks must be given to Abby and Dave for managing such a wonderful venue. Their hard work has resulted in the Alverbank being a favourite of ours. We will be back next month!

Had an afternoon roast lunch, was very nicely cooked. Hot and enough gravy and veg. Will defanitly revisit.

The Alverbank is definitely our favourite venue for the comedy evening, which is held once a month & hosted by the very talented & amazing Jake Young, who always manages to get top acts & is naturally very funny. The hotel is immaculate throughout & in a great location. Abby & Dave make every guest feel special, comfortable & welcome. The food prepared by the chefs Harvey & Adam is always a delight. Fantastic service by the lovely Anisha, Kerry & Lottie, who like the owners hold customer service & friendliness a priority. Meg & Tegan work so hard at the very busy bar, preparing drinks for the guests & like the rest of the team hold the same high values. Thank you to you all x

Lottie gave us a fantastic description of the hotel and surrounding area. So much so that we’re looking to find a room to stay here asap. Ivan managed our food and table wonderfully. What a place. Honestly I’ve travelled and this is a hiddden gem ❤️

We regularly attend the hotel, particularly for the Comedy Nights. Abby and the whole team are incredible and we are so well looked after, food is lovely and the entertainment (particularly with Jake on standup comedy nights) is second to none. Would highly recommend for a group or couples night out!

We visited today for lunch and were the only family here, but this isn't reflective of the restaurant because it was absolutely beautiful. The host was very attentive and frequently checked in on us. We had our baby with us in his pram and this was considered when we were seated too. Our meals were absolutely delicious as was the wine. It's walking distance to both Stanley Park and Stokes Bay beach, so the location couldn't be better. Car parking is limited, but free for paying customers. There are clean baby changing facilities available on the ground floor too. We will definitely be visiting again soon!

What a little gem, a beautiful and charming hotel, real fires and a lovely vibe, a stones throw from the beach with stunning views. The food was divine and the staff were absolutely wonderful. Special shout out to the manager Claire who is just fabulous, a bundle of energy and refreshing to be around.

Couldn't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay but the food, setting and service was absolutely fantastic. It was the first time that we had ever visited and we will definitely be back!

Excellent service by extremely friendly staff. I would thoroughly recommend coming to The Alverbank, whether for the superb food, an event or just for a cup of coffee.

We had an absolutely fabulous full English here today! The staff are always so helpful and lovely too - our favourite place to go and best breakfast in the area.

We went for breakfast and the staff couldnt be more accommodating! The meal was delicious and well prepared and looked good on the plate too! The apple juice was delicious and my favourite parts of my Garden breakfast was the wilted spinach and crispy hash browns. Thank you all for your contribution to a wonderful little birthday breakfast - we felt very welcomed and well looked after

My son and his wife wedding held here and it was brilliant can't fault it. Staff were fantastic.

The first time we walked into The Alverbank we knew we wanted our wedding there. Such a lovely building with a beautiful view. We married on 8 June 24 and had an amazing and perfect day. We couldn't have asked for anything better. We will always have wonderful memories. The staff were efficient and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was excellent and well presented. We cannot praise Claire enough. Right from the beginning she put us at ease with her lovely personality and her advice and guidance throughout our journey was invaluable. It was fun. We knew we were in safe hands. The day went so smoothly and we didn't have to worry about a thing. We have had so many comments from our guests saying how lovely everything was. In fact we want to do it all again!! Amazing place! Our son had his wedding reception here nearly two years ago and it was incredible. We have visited several times since then with various different friends and it never fails to diappoint. Staff venue and food are all 5*+. Cannot recommend enough. Attended outdoor Shakespeare's As you like it theatrical performance on the terrace. It was a magical setting and the whole event ran so smoothly thanks to Roxanne and her wonderful staff. Great location good prices going back very soon xxx

We attended a wedding reception on 12 July The food was excellent The team of girls looking after the guests were great happy polite and made the effort to try and remember guest names this made for a very enjoyable evening

Every time we come here the staff are exceptional at looking after every need, dietary, medical, and everything else you could imagine. The food is always immaculate. Would recommend to everyone!!

Had my wedding at the Alverbank 28th march 2024 and loved every second of it as the staff made it such an amazing day they helped so so much and did more than I could have asked for. Claire who we spoke to and had meetings with about the wedding is amazing she made it so nice and relaxed during the year or so whilst having the meetings to get the wedding planned. Such an amazing day. If we had to do it all again we would come back and do it with them.

A very fine grand house with SUPERB staff in a great location just off the beach. Easy access to the Solent area. We went to Lee on Solent one day and Gosport marina the next. The listed hotel is quite boutique with lovely rooms, comfy beds and a grand entrance hall. The breakfast was also SUPERB. There is a small bar area too serving some fine whiskies! But mostly its the staff that make your stay so good. Well done.

An excellent weekend spent at the Alverbank Hotel for a family Golden Wedding Anniversary. The location is great and the staff were all amazing, as was the view from the bath! The welcome was warm and friendly and throughout our 2 night stay, Claire and the Team made sure that we had everything that we could possibly need. Special thanks to Anesha who proactively looked after us so well, especially at breakfast. We look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

We married here on 29/02/2024, and we honestly had the most amazingly perfect day. We had a relatively short engagement (6 months!) and Claire and the team were superb throughout the entire process. Living in Gosport, we wanted to keep our wedding local and we are so lucky to have The Alverbank on our doorstop. After we visited for dinner, we knew that we wanted to get married here as the service we received was excellent. When we met Claire, the wedding coordinator, it was the icing on the cake. Claire made everything so straightforward for us, and our 6 months of planning felt so easy. We held our wedding ceremony here and evening reception which is helpful as we wanted everything in one venue. There is so much space for guests between the events when they are turning the rooms around. Even though it rained all day and we couldn't make use of the gardens, it didn't matter as the venue still has so much space. On the day itself, the staff were fantastic, and all of our guests have echoed our thoughts and feelings. The food service was perfect, and nobody waited to be served for drinks throughout the night considering we had 100+ people in the evening. The food was incredible. The food tasting experience was a pleasure in itself and on the day the chef and the team outdid themselves with the quality when cooking for the masses. I think my review explains just how happy we are with how our wedding day went - I could obviously continue! If you are considering this as a wedding venue, or a party venue for any occasion, i urge you to visit to see what a hidden gem this place is! :) Added bonus is that it is dog friendly, so our pooch could be with us on our special day! thank you to everybody at The Alverbank!

My favourite roast (apart from my own). Staff are always friendly and attentive. Food service can be a bit slow and we've found on a couple of occasions that items on the menu have already sold out which is disappointing. Still would return.

Nice decor and location, food definitely not worth the price. I had the tomato ragout with dumplings and the ragout was more like a watery tasteless soup and the dumplings were the dense-est ive ever had. I didnt eat it and had it taken off the tab. Husband has the steak and asked for medium rare and it came VERY rare. My SIL had the roast dinner and although the beef was cooked well the roast potatoes were very hard and a bit undercooked. Nothing was really worth the price that was advertised to be honest and it was our second time there recently (not by our choice but others) and previously the ramen had by hubby was watery and lacked any real flavor and the salad i had was pretty much just a hunk of watery mozzarella and some tomatoes..... Very disappointing. I would happily pay weatherspoons prices for this quality but nothing more and we wont be going again any time soon unless there is a substantial change and maybe a new chef. Such a shame as gosport could really do with somewhere for fine dining as with the location as nice as this i think they can expect many customers to not be coming more than once.

Great place, with helpful friendly staff that go the extra mile to accommodate you. Our room was spotlessly clean and being room No1 we had the roll top bath in the window and a beautiful view of the Isle of Wight. Hired the function hall for my wife’s 60th birthday party and have to say Roxanne was extremely helpful and professional, with good advice and answering any questions promptly. All in all a 5 star service, would definitely recommend.

A lovely selection of small plates to share for a Birthday celebration. Our waitress Anisha was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back soon.

Gorgeous roast in a lovely setting. The belly pork was cooked to perfection washed down with a pint of the local ale from the Powder Monkey brewery. Evan took our booking and made sure everything was OK with our meals, highly recommended for quality and service.

We had a delicious sunday roast with sea views, an open lit fire and fantastic service. Can’t wait to go back it was excellent!

We chose the Alverbank for our Christmas family meal as it was one of a few places that offered their Christmas menu on a Sunday. The welcome from the team was lovely, as we were a large party they gave us the private dining room which was splendid. The food was fabulous, all 3 courses were served in a timely manner and all piping hot. Service was excellent throughout the whole meal. Myself and my family would like to say a huge thank you to the team at The Alverbank, we have found our new family Christmas tradition!! We will be back before next Christmas though !

What an amazing private dining / 90th Birthday celebration we had on 11th November 2023. The consideration and detail from Roxanne, the events manager, took from our first meeting,  through the many email exchanges and our last pre-event meeting. The day was absolutely perfect in every detail; the ambience, excellent food and wonderful service. A massive appreciation to Billy too whose attentiveness, energy and great humour ensured the day was simply wonderful. We really can't recommend The Alverbank and the team enough. Just perfect 👌⭐️

The Alverbank were kind enough to host our wedding last month and I cannot recommend them highly enough. From our very first meeting, Claire and the team were incredibly helpful, accommodating, and friendly, and took so much stress away from planning our day. They could not have done any more for us, exceeding our expectations in every single way possible. The chef at the Alverbank (Jack) is incredible - his food is honestly the best around and we have eaten here so many times now it's honestly my favourite place to go. To have him cater our wedding was a privilege and it was the most memorable and exquisite meal - Jack made suggestions and amendments to our choices which levelled them up to such a top tier choice, and it was perfect. The Alverbank went to great lengths to make our day perfect - even setting up the tables and function room completely for us and so much better than we could ever have done! It was such a surprise to be able to walk into our wedding reception and see such a beautiful set up and made it so special for us both. Not only the wedding, planning, meals, and hospitality, the accommodation at the venue is simply amazing. The honeymoon suite is most probably the nicest rooms I have ever stayed in, and that includes our 5-star hotel for honeymoon itself in Devon. It is stunning. The views are incredible, yet it feels private, luxurious, and comfortable. I could have stayed there for weeks!! Our wedding was absolutely MADE by the team at the Alverbank. From the meal the night before, the breakfast the morning after, and the extra touches they made on the day (I noticed the tea lights and added chalk signs, the gift table, and how you coordinated the day so effortlessly, even though you did nothing to boast about these elements) - we are eternally grateful. The venue and team will hold a special place in our hearts forever more. Thank you for everything.

Beautiful little costal hotel with excellent restaurant in the middle of a dog friendly park. Fantastic views of the ocean. Room was comfortable (mattress was firm but I like that for my sleep). It's a historic building so expect creaks and squeaks but that's part of its character. Activities include walking the beach and the park. Very relaxing.

Absolutely fabulous food, The Breakfast was sublime, comfy rooms, but the best asset is the staff, they all go above and beyond to help with a smile. We were very fortunate to be looked after by Anisha who went above and beyond during our stay there to ensure we had the best time, we did.

Extraordinary Sunday roasts that really need to be sampled to be believed! Fantastic customer service in an idyllic location with amazing sea views.

This was our first visit for a very long time and our Sunday lunch was perfect. Very tasty food, hot and good portions without being overwhelming. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The Alverbank will definitely be our go-to place to eat in future.

Nearly half hour waiting for 4x lattes.

I love visiting here however received a parking fine of £100 even though I entered my reg into the tablet in reception. Now I have to submit an appeal via letter as there is no phone number or email to contact them through to appeal . Contacted yourselves who advised me I have to appeal through the fine company . I would have thought being your establishment you could have over turned this as I have bank statements clearly stating I had spent my money in your premises at said time and date .

Nice place, ok food, but not recommended as you'll get a parking fine if you park in the hotel car park. We were eating in the restaurant for about 2 hours and got a £100 parking fine. Staff not interested in cancelling the fine. Won't be returning.

Had a absolutely delicious Sunday Roast yesterday. Freshly cooked veg and Yorkshire pudding to die for. Service was excellent too. Highly recommended. Will be back.

The Alverbank is in a lovely old building with a large garden overlooking the Solent where, over the years, we've enjoyed meeting friends for a couple of drinks. Unfortunately, the latest management team seems to have a policy of table service only. So, even if you end up sitting a step away from the barperson at the bar, you have to wait for someone else to take your order and bring the drinks over. The shock comes when you are then required to pay 10% service charge for the pleasure. Sadly, we won't be going back for drinks here whilst they operate this money-making scheme. Such a shame. ~~~ Noting the reply below: I totally agree with the idea of customers being given the opportunity to show their appreciation for staff who have provided friendly and helpful meal service. We always do just that. However, in this case, we felt that slapping an unannounced 10% surcharge on our bill for being required to wait around for available staff to fetch us drinks we had tried to buy directly from the bar was a bit of a cheek. Rather than ruin other people's evenings by causing a fuss, we paid the surcharge as there was no indication it was optional.

Went to the jazz eve last night very nice,had some nibbles and a drink,lovely eve.

We had a lunch for 11 in a private room on a wet day - could have had brighter lights! BUT virtually everything eaten was really good - service impeccable and really enjoyable. It is pricey but worth it - my rib eye steak was amazing - thank you

A hidden gem. Warm and friendly, attentive and efficient staff and excellent food. From their garden are spectacular views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. I held my husband’s wake at the Alverbank on a spring afternoon. I wanted hot food that would be easy to eat while everyone caught up so we chose fish pie and shepherd’s pie which went down a storm. Their spacious entertaining room was ideal for everyone to gather and talk of their memories of my husband. He had a wonderful send off. Thank you, it could not have been more perfect.

Went to a comedy night which was brilliant. What wasn't great is that as of April 2022 the Alverbank are still doing bubbles, even though all Covid restrictions were lifted months ago. We were a group of 3, Alverbank said they only had tickets left for bubbles of 4 so we had to buy an extra ticket. I know we didn't have to but we wanted to see the acts. Once inside we were sat on chairs In rows, like a school assembly. So the idea of "bubbles" was a complete nonsense.

Came here for a wedding, a beautiful building inside and out. All of the staff were very friendly, amazing wedding meal too! 3 courses were lovely and the blondie was the nicest desert I've ever had. Came back a month later to try the food and drink again and was blown away again, I would recommend anyone to come and try their food! Beautifully cooked and the staff are all lovely and very friendly! I'll definitely be back for more food! I'd recommend booking if you're coming to eat though :)

We had my daughter's wedding reception at this wonderful hotel, the staff were brilliant, the meals were unbelievable, the service was faultless. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, daughter's room had a view of the Solent. Terrible Just hour and a half before check we where informed we could not have our room as it had been double booked. Would never book here again and anyone thinking of it be carful they could double book and you will loose your room

I booked the hotels private dining for a big birthday. Everything was wonderful, the food, the service and the rooms. I would highly recommend this hotel.
