Al's Plaice Fish and Chips in Forest of Dean

Called in this evening & although we had missed the official Gluten Free days, Al very kindly went above & beyond to provide a portion of GF Chicken Nuggets & Chips with our order. Everything was hot & delicious, exceptional food & service, we shall definitely return. Thanks Al, much appreciated.

Great fish and chips. Ordered using the app whilst at Forest Holidays. Hot and fresh at agreed pickup time.

Ordered fish and chips twice with curry gravy and peas , they got order wrong only 1 chips but then did give us 2nd chips free. Food was hot, chips nice, peas tasteless and fish was very very thin wrapped around alot of crispy batter. £24 and thats without the chips Expensive for what you got.

Really nice except curry sauce was a bit watery & disappointing, not usual quality or consistency

Great service, ordered gluten free but they dont do this on fridays. This is not stated in just eat, but they called to let me know and cancelled order so i got money refunded. Just Eat needs updating when Glutin Free is available

Absolutely fantastic fish and chips served here. Chips fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Fish lovely and flaky and thin crispy batter. Definitely made a new regular customer of me. Keep it up!

Great GF options, only let down by the chips being greasy

Delivery was after the latest expected time. Food is lovely, but unfortunately on this occasion was not even like warm. Disappointing considering the price for food and delivery.

Best chip shop in the forest if not in the whole of Gloucestershire. They offer a gluten free menu on Tuesdays and Wednesday. Great prices, quick service and great quality food and perfect customer service. The owner is very down to earth and all the staff are so friendly.

Gravy was so salty it was inedible

Good food as always, but I still don’t get how a shop 3 minutes away from someone’s home can take 70 minutes to deliver, even at the busiest of times.

Atmosphere and service was ok but the food absolutely disgusting, chips soggy and cold , pie was well thrown away and kids lost their teeth eating the scampi, how so many left good reviews beats me, must be lack of competition in the area. Prices above average too. Worth looking around first

Ordered online to collect as we were passing through to go to our campsite after a day out and when we arrived it was ready right on time, we drove a further 10 minutes parked up and got into the caravan and the food was still fresh and delicious. The staff were great, really polite and made the experience that much better.

Great fish and chips, battered sausage, spring rolls and curry sauce. But the fish cake needs to be hand made. That was the only part I didn’t like. All the best.

All food delivered hot to our cabin. Lemon & tartare sauce missing from order but the fish was delicious without it! All meals were spot on, generous portion sizes and value for money. Highly recommended.

Good serve one item not in bag when delivered. I phoned and they did a new delivery of the missing item for me , it arrived very quickly so can't fault that service at all.

Awesome chippy. Was a busy Saturday night but I appreciate the extra mile they went to for gluten free meal when their gluten free days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Great tasty meal. Will be returning again.

Really good sized portion of fish and very tasty. Chips were a touch dry, curry sauce however was way too small. Especially for the price. Its put me off buying from here again unfortunately.

Friendly staff and delicious food! Picked up as a takeaway whilst visiting the area. We ordered on one of their gluten free evenings and they were very conscious of the safety aspects. Definitely recommended

Lovely food, big portions, good value.

Food was cold when I got delivered. Order 2 bottles of Dr Pepper and one bottle of coke and received one Dr Pepper one coke and a cherry coke. Salt and vinegar on cheesy chips and asked for only salt. Cheese was all stuck to the paper. It said delivery was about 30 minutes and it was over an hour until the food was delivered

Fish was terrible hard batter and hard fish never ate any of the cod

Food from Al's Plaice is always fantastic, absolutely delicious and freshly cooked. At least, that's how I remember it - but so far today it's over two hours since ordering, multiple delivery time updates later and still no idea if we're having dinner tonight.

From Bristol staying at the forest of dean. Husband coeliac. Found this place online after searching gluten free on google and visited tonight. Omg it was lush!!! Al was fantastic, explaining how they handle gluten free orders...proper put my husband at rest (thanks). He went above and beyond. So friendly to us, chatting about our home town and yet every person that entered the shop while we waited, he made to feel they were his only customer. Really lovely person. Food was banging. Pricing very fair considering the price of potatoes and fish these days. Al even hand wrote a list of places we could visit with our dogs nearby. I worked in a chippy in Bristol for like 20 years and have to say hands down, your locals are so lucky to have you. Decent food, decent prices, outstanding customer service. Al has the chip shop art/craft down to a tee!! Can't wait til we're back in November . Thank youb

Went here as we were staying in ellwood fc. Wanted really onion rings but as it was a Friday they didn't do them, but when he could see the disappointment on my face he went out of his way to make them for me, they were very much greatfully recieved and enjoyed, they were well worth the time that was made. We will definitely be calling again when in the area as everything was excellent, fish & chips, curry were enjoyed by us all. Portions were generous. They were better than the tram stop which we had had they previous week. Thank you once again.

Delivery Early friday, chips really awful, looked and tasted as though they had been rewarmed from lunch time Fish was ok, but greasy but edible.

Chips ok but cod was hard to find in the mass of batter. £10 quid for this was a rip off. They must know they're frying small pieces of fish. Won't be using them again

Stopped her in the car to have fish and chips. I am from up North so very particular about my fish and chips. This is the best fish and chips I have tasted in the Forest area FOD. Also very good service and they took my waste boxes back and recycled, so great food and environmental.

Order arrived late due to being busy and traffic problems. On arrival the meal was very greasy, leading to most of the meal being left. Very disappointed, as left hungry after food was late and unable to be eaten.

Quite possibly the best chicken nuggets I've ever had... especially, with the gravy. Everything was cooked fresh. If you're staying at Forest Holidays in the Forest of Dean, you have to try this fish and chip shop. Definitely worth a visit

Down on holiday .Absolute Gem of a takeaway place . What made it for me was the food came lovely and hot . Lovely presentation with boxes and good quality food . The delivery driver was extremely polite and friendly . Will definitely be ordering again .

Absolutely awful service, ordered 7 meals, got chips for 3 of them. Couldn't even try to split the chips out as the portions were too small. Should have realised when there was no queue outside. I should have waited in the queue at the tram stop. Really not recommended.

The kind of Fish & Chips I thought only existed on the Suffolk coast - freshly cooked with real care taken to get it right. Cheers Al 😁
