Not Quite All the Stars Every time I come down to East London - there is a "New" burger joint thats opened - and like the sucker I am - I grab the nieces & nephew and head out to try it. Obviously the munchkins think I'm the best Uncle ever ! The location: Green Street, Forest Gate, East London - E7. Lets start with Location - nowhere to park at all - best come after 8pm if you want free parking. The appearance: Very glitzy American Diner - which was good in America in the 50's - but I don't think its all that in 2023 London. In fact I just don't see the point of this retro theme - not sure who they are aiming this at - as the prices are beyond the pockets of the average teen (maybe not London teens - as I'm a northerner once you're past Watford and I don't know any teens with £15 to blow on a burger unless they've just got their Birthday, Eid, Christmas money !) - So I'm guessing its aiming at kids & young adults but mum & or dad have to come along to foot the bill ! The kids were not that taken by the interior at all. The burgers were way better than their nearest rival Route 58. However in my opinion and those of the tribe - we all prefer Loaded Burger - which incidentally is even pricier ! I tried to locate their website - www.allstarsgourmet.co.uk - but got redirected to a holding page - so they don't actually have a website. What we ordered: The Classic Allstars Burger - £4.49 - Plus Extra fried egg (runny yolk) - £1.20 6oz Beef patty served with American cheese, fried onions, tomato, lettuce & Allstars secret sauce. The VIP - bacon cheeseburger - £7.95 6oz Beef patty served with American cheese, blue cheese, turkey bacon, onion rings, fried onions, pickles, tomato, lettuce & allstars secret sauce. Starstruck - £6.95 Grilled chicken & a 6oz beef patty served with American cheese, tomato, lettuce & mayonnaise. Side Order: Rosemary & thyme homemade chips - £1.95 Chilli Nachos - £3.95 - Tortilla chips topped with beef, jalapenos, salsa & melted cheese. Drinks: 7up, Pepsi & a J2O at £1.95 each _______ The others said their food was good but I can only comment on what I had eaten - which was ...... The Classic Allstars Burger - £4.49 - Plus Extra fried egg (runny yolk) - £1.20 Rosemary & thyme homemade chips - £1.95 Chilli Nachos - £3.95 The Nachos where nice and fresh - good taste & texture - good crunch - but the cheese on the Nachos was not great - id have preferred the sort of runny cheese you get at the movies. The beef was good and over all the Nachos were not bad at all. The Rosemary & Thyme Homemade Chip - tasted of just chips - no seasoning at all - they didn't appear to be homemade either. I'd blank those in the future if I ever go back ? The Classic Allstars Burger - Plus Extra fried egg (runny yolk) - The burger was a good size and way better than expected. However the Egg I requested and paid £1.20 for - which I wanted runny - was hard and totally cooked through. What a letdown. It just proves that they are not bothered about standards. The Order would have clearly stated extra egg (runny) - as I insisted with the waiter that is what I wanted and was reassured - that is what I Will get ???? Just proves to me that the Chef doesn't read the order ticket & is not bothered about what leaves his kitchen - If he cared he would not have allowed this mistake to happen. He’s Fired ! The next person to be fired - would be whoever is controlling the Pass - they should have spotted the error and checked the order to make sure what was ordered matches what is going to the customer - FIRED ! 3rd person to be Fired - is the waiter - again - he took the order and knew my requirements as I was very particular about it - He should have double checked with the Pass controller or chef that the order was correct and as requested - He didn't - He’s Fired ! I pointed the issue out with the waiter and he said he would get another Egg - WHAT ? The whole order should be redone - what am I supposed to do - wait for another runny egg to arrive and then rebuild the burger myself ? I declined - ate my burger and left feeling done over for paying for something which I didn't get in the way I wanted. It’s the small things which separate the good and the bad or average food places. The food is good here; the prices are a little steep for what you get. I think they should take £1 off everything on the Menu - which would then be the correct pricing. £1.20 for an egg is horrific - Tops it should be .60p £2 for a drink - is off the mark too - McDonalds just around the corner charges £1.29 for a large cola. Lets see what happens when i next come to London and if the nieces & nephews want to come here again - I’m not sure I want to, unless the owner replies to this message and invites us all to a replacement meal (on the house, of course).

¡No puedo esperar a regresar! ! !

Definitivamente no volveré a ir

I went in to order a box of 12 glazed donuts yesterday and had a terrible experience, one of the men working there was refusing to give me a batch of new donuts and said he weren’t allowed to pack some new ones in a box as I had told him that the pre made ones I bought last time tasted off when I took them home, he carried on refusing to give me the new batch and gave me and old batch which looked burnt and off, so I kindly asked him to give me a new batch, he then went ahead and done so, the other man putting the new batch out looked like he weren’t enjoying the job at all and kept making faces that made me feel uncomfortable for even asking for new ones. I’m paying £16 for these donuts and I should be entitled to ask for a new batch to be put into a box as I’m the one paying for it, I didn’t appreciate that, due to being long about what I had asked for, they had a queue of people waiting behind me getting annoyed, not my fault but theirs, can’t follow simple instructions and look annoyed at doing their job! Please do the job your asked to do next time, makes people’s lives easier!

I visited with a friend for a pre booked, three course dinner to celebrate my birthday and see Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland. ( Fabulous!). This was my first visit. The hall is beautiful and huge. We were seated at a table by a pillar with uplighting. Not good for my friend’s migraine. We asked to move and were. There was some confusion about all our details coming with us but all fine. My starter was crab cakes. Three tiny patties, fine for a starter, but I could taste everything but crab. The Waldorf Salad was mainly apple with a few bits of celery and leaves and the patties tasted predominantly of lemon. My main was Crispy Gressingham Duck. It wasn’t. The skin was soggy and the duck over cooked. With salad and a side of potatoes swimming in garlic butter. In the first interval dessert was a deconstructed apple crumble of sorts. Nice, but weirdly dry and a bit bland. The hall is beautiful but, on the ground floor area, you are seated alongside the busy bar area. Very noisy and bustling. The service was great, but overall I didn’t think our meal, at that standard of cooking, plus a bottle of wine was worth over £100 a head.
