Not the best but not the worst I've had

Generous portions, spotlessly clean, lovely people and all freshly made to order. We took our time and ate in, it was a nice break and we'll certainly go back.

We can't fault it at all. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was speedy. We will definitely be returning when we are back in Kent! We stopped there by chance on our way to the apartment we rented for our half-term break around 4 pm. We took our usual when trying new takeaways on the seaside holidays: two portions of cod and chips. We are a family of three (my husband is a big eater, and I love fish and chips but our son rarely eats more than a couple of chips). We don't like to waste food because of a fussy 10 years old so we always take 2 portions to share then we can always get more if needs be. I split one portion in half between myself and our son without much hope that he'd eat much, especially since he ate some lunch and lots of snacks during our 3 hours journey while the second portion was for my husband. We couldn't believe our eyes when our son ate most of his half! I never remember to take photos of the food. I am rather about enjoying food not taking photos of it but this time I took a photo of the only bit our son left. Well at least until it was finished by me later on :). Tempura butter was crispy, the fish inside cooked to perfection, chips were fluffy inside and crispy enough on the outside. To say that the portions were generous is an understatement. My husband managed to eat all of his somehow because, as he said, it was too delicious, and he couldn't stop eating despite being full. We all were super full but satisfied. Later during our stay, when exploring Margate, we realised that it must have been the cheapest takeaway in the area by a considerable amount! Also, portion sizes were bigger than in other places, and I don't only mean the fish but also the chips (we only had a look when passing by other establishments as we already knew where we would order every time during our stay). As we all know, it's impossible to have fish and chips every day, but if we lived in the area, I think at least once a week would be a must. We made most of it during our stay, and we will definitely be back for more. I was shocked to read some other reviews suggesting that the portions were not big enough. It seems to be locals who were used to the even bigger portions previously. My question is, how many people were you feeding with just one portion? Worst Chip Shop experience I’ve had to endure!! Ordered basic couple of meals.. TOOK 23 MINUTES to sort order and happily served the 3 people that had ordered after me before me!! Then when a reference to the time taken was made the owners were rude and as I walked out I heard a swear word…. Gets better…. got the food home, well if you like excessive amounts of throat cutting chips and poor food then this is your place! Never ever will I use again

Fish was over cooked & dried out and batter too hard to eat. Went out of our way to buy here on reading the reviews but was hugely disappointed 😔. Dogs enjoyed the left over cod with their tea. Tbf the curry sauce was very good but very salty.

Absolutely my favourite fish and chip take away chips and cod always freshly cooked every time The large cod is large feeds me and my 8 year old Cod so far has always been very fresh and firm can't fault them keep up the good work Update even with the cost of living these guys prices have not shot up and there cod is still really large just had yet another great piece of fresh cod great chips fed four me three kids for 14 pounds just great value great food

Excellent fish, chips and mushy peas! But make sure you have a hearty appetite- the portions are HUGE! We live in France, so proper fish and chips is a real treat when we visit England, and this was by far the BEST we can remember for many years! Thoroughly recommended.

I ordered a large cod and chips. Wrapped up it was the size of a baby in swaddling. Unwrapped, it didn’t disappoint. The fish had a crispy batter and large white flakes. The chips were fluffy and perfectly seasoned. Overall it was great value for money. Wouldn’t hesitate to visit again when I’m next in Margate.

They really don't joke around with portion sizes. We got two large fish n chips for two people because we were really hungry and we barely were able to eat the fish and one portion of chips. We were so full! The fish was really good, the chips could've been crispier tbut that's just my preference. And all that for a very reasonable price. The establishment was clean and the staff were friendly and chatty What more could you want

Despite all of the fantastic reviews on Google, I do have a complaint. This place is a bit too far from London otherwise I would be here at least once a week. But maybe not such a bad thing for my diet plan! Seriously the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. I can see myself coming back to Margate just for this place. Amazing 👏

Tried this chippy because of the good reviews and happy to say this is a good chippy. The prices are good and potion size ample. I could not eat all my dinner on a medium cod and chips with mushy peas. They do not sell pots of gravy but you can get curry sauce and mushy peas. Parking can be difficult.

Very helpful as we gave them a large party order and they did a fantastic job and would recommend them, we had a party of 14.

Excellent! 5 star fish and chips, certainly one of the best places in Thanet for our traditional meal, cooked fresh to order and service with a smile. If you do have to wait for serving it's only because it's busy due to it's popularity with locals who know good fresh fish and chips, and definitely worth the time you may have to spend in line.

The absolute best fish and chips in Thanet. They cook to order, either while you wait or phone in advance and go and collect. You will not be disappointed !

Lucky to have it as a local. Tried nearly everything on the menu and never been disappointed. Very friendly staff. Incredibly good value. Looks lovely and clean. In the current climate they are doing their very best to be covid secure and they ladies and gentlemen are doing a wonderful job. I would eat here every day the grub is delicious. It is always a nice treat having an Alfie's for the family and me.

Amazing Margate fish experience in every way.... BUT, you might find fish and/or chips are on your menu every day 🤞 Mouth watering writing this review 💦 Was in a rush or I could have shown a way better pic of the oh so crispy, crunchy, just the tight thickness batter surrounding a very succulent, firm yet soft white piece of medium size cod with mushy peas, and for me, lashings of vinegar and some salt It was perfectly cooked as was the 🌞 friendly and professional chit chat 🙏 Thank you and 💯see you again soon (the chips looked awesome and it took a lot to say no thanks 👼)

Always great food, the only place I get fish and chips from. The whole family enjoy it and its worth every penny. Can be really busy at times but that's due to its popularity and the fact that your food is fresh. If you've not tried them your missing out.
