Great atmosphere didn't know this pub was in Saltburn hidden gem behind the top promenade get the cliff to the top and walk through the cut on a night loom for the beer garden lights. Bar staff excellent Joshua made us feel so welcome will be back for another drink soon

“Back Alex”; what a great discovery! Lovely friendly staff and bar staff Gemma and Maisie (soon got to know their names), quaint surroundings, dog friendly, good price drinks and a welcoming coal fire after a troop across the beach on a chilly day, I mean what more could you want? Definitely going to call it our friendly “local” even though we don’t live in Saltburn. 🤷🏼‍♀️It’s the kind of pub you can call in on you own and soon get chatting to the locals and holiday makers alike.

Not the most comfortable of places we've encountered on our travels. Lady that served us was fine. The things we witnessed after we not so good. A young lad stood behind the bar on his phone obviously not old enough to serve but then blatantly ignores a customer at the bar. Older lady sat at the bar drinking who decides to serve but can't get the card machine working. The trip to the gents isn't one you'd want to do after a few pints. Walk between empty barrels and dodge the bike parked down there. Signs everywhere that people caught stealing from the pub will be reported to the police. Begs the question on the regular clientele with signs like that. Been in many pubs on our travels around the UK and Europe so seen many toilets signs. All except this one are regarding drug misuse. Vastly different from the other establishments in Saltburn-by-the-Sea in many respects which are far superior and very much more visitor friendly. My advice if you happen to be in Saltburn-by-the-Sea is to dodge this place.

Lovely pub in Saltburn, my friends and I love coming here. Always good vibes and good service. All staff are friendly and plenty of options for drink. Also got a jukebox so you can put money in to choose your own songs 😊

Lovely quirky and quaint pub a little off the road but well worth a step off the tracks. Absolutely brimming with character and history. Really friendly staff and locals. This would absolutely be a 5 ⭐ review based only on the building, decor and people. The one thing I have to drop a star for is the lack of a cask ale or two. This place was absolutely made to have a real ale on cask and it's really disappointing to see it without any. You can get a Shipyard so it's not a complete loss but it would be a must visit with that simple addition. Still a great place though and I loved visiting. The beer yard outside is a bit of a sun trap too which is a bonus. Very dog friendly. 😊 Didn't have any food so can't rate that.

Fun, smallish eclectic pub. 3 rooms, (though one technically is a pool room). Good atmosphere, friendly staff and ok prices for a good pint, good selection of ales and spirits. No food. TVs, dog friendly, open fire in middle room and pool. Could be a little tight for wheelchairs. Is it worth a visit? absolutely, is it worth a second visit? Definitely.

Excellent place. Very welcoming. Popped on for a quick pint and stayed for hours. Recommended. No idea what food is like, so can't give that a rating.

Great pub (a proper pub) brilliant atmosphere, lovely cozy fire and plenty of seating. Staff are fab, quick efficient service with a smile and time to chat to you which is rare these days. Spent a lovely afternoon in the company of gyrating Geoff, a flamboyant local who was the best company. We will definitely be back. Came for a few pints with my friends for a catch up from uni. Josh, Emma and Amy were really helpful and really brought a good fun positive vibe to the bar. Thoroughly enjoyed the night would recommend to anyone.

Wow me an my family came to North Yorkshire to look for the best local pubs and eating houses. Boy did we find some buties, we stumbled across a small fishing town called saltburn by the sea and although at first glance’s the run down town with scruffy ally’s and crack den looking flats near the seafront we did find a little gem. The back Alex pub as it’s known to the locals is without the only place worth visiting in the town. We got greated by the friendliest bar staff we have ever met, the manager I believe called Emma made us feel like we were visiting a 5 star resort and her co worker Josh supplied us with the finest refreshments a family could ask for. Thank you for your kind hospitality the back Alex we will be back with more of our family and friends, hopefully the town can accommodate all our caravans and vehicles. 😎

What a gem of a find amongst the Jewel Streets!! The warmest of welcomes from (special mentions) Emma and Anne, winner of the most dog friendly pub in Teeside and rightly deserved. We were made to feel so welcome by everyone in the pub. The decor is incredible, the drinks delicious, pub is cosy and warm, just like the welcome - we cannot wait to come back!!!

I absolutely love it in the Back Alex, the staff and customers are friendly and the jukebox has an amazingly varied selection!😀 I also like that there's 'gender neutral' toilets, being non binary I found this a really comfortable!😍

Hi just come from Whitby on the bus to saltburn for the day and found Alexander vaults pub a breath of fresh air great pub with fair prices good atmosphere Whitby has a lot to learn and start charging a proper price for their beer well done Alexander vaults keep up the good work and show them overcharging Whitby pubs to get their heads out of arses and stop ripping holiday makers off thinking they got something special there

During our brief visit to the Vaults recently we were made welcome by the friendly landlady. I asked about the large cannonball on her war memorabilia shelf. Research indicates it could have been from the English Civil War, Battle of Marske Beach when the locals repelled Cromwell's forces coming from the sea!

Hey THIS IS THE BEST PUB IN THE AREA (trust me). Me and my fellow Russian and Ukrainian friends went to Saltburn for a couple days - every night was spent in this pub. All the tiny details always grab your attention, and the staff was so charming😭 I forgot all their names but these were the people who made us feel welcomed. Others should learn - this pub is an example of how to retain guests. Best pool games and the tastiest beer🌶🌩

Relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Clean and tidy. After lockdown etc, went back with a friend. They didn’t have what I normally drink in stock. Mentioned this to Gemma, it was on sale the following week. Can’t fault owners and staff enough. Best in town.

This place is a hidden gem. Tucked away down a small back street in Saltburn, it’s like a Tardis inside. Great atmosphere, warm welcome, brilliant selection of drinks (great array of whiskey if that’s your thing). It gets busy with walkers and locals. Dog and child friendly and 2 pool tables.

Amazing pub without a doubt. You only need to look at the amazing reviews. Yes I work there but also the landlady is one of my best friends of over 20 years. It’s a real pub through and through and she has always gone out of her way to give the best service ever and treats everyone like her family and goes above and beyond to help people when needed. So to read the comment from Lucy c I cannot not comment. Part of me didn’t want to comment but decided against it. The reason she left a negative review is simply through bitterness as she was barred . I won’t say for why as it isn’t my place , however I will say if I had been served flat beer or any drink I wouldn’t want to return. She however did want to but was refused because of her behaviour. Also just to note a flat pint will never be served here. Again all you need to do is look at all the amazing reviews we have . Xxx

We fell upon this pub yesterday after a random trip to saltburn and all I can say is WOW !!! Straight away when you walk in you can feel the warmth and friendliness off the locals and being dog friendly our bobby was made such a fuss of it was really nice Then came along joanne the landlady who is a absolute darling ❤️ she made us feel so welcome We hadn’t eaten and they don’t serve food so when I asked if we could get a pizza the answer was of course you can they will deliver here 😂 All I can say is that was a most enjoyable evening and I will definitely be back This is a proper good old English pub with the friendliest locals I have come across in a very long time

Very nice chilled out pub with plenty of seating areas nice Chesterfields in different corners with the odd antique bits and bobs dotted about the place with a nice old open fire place on the go. Only bad thing to say is there's no gluten Free bottles of larger which is a shame but it's quite the same situation in lot of pubs .
