Alex Gooch Bakery in Cardiff

Perhaps we timed our visit wrongly, being just after the morning rush but we left disappointed. You pay 'top dollar', so expect the best, but this was some way off. Limited selection of pastries, small 'large black', cold cappuccino, and hot chocolate minus marshmallows even though there was a big jar of them on the counter. And staff were not that welcoming. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day!

They put together an amazing selection with some great champers for a low key wedding, couldn't be happier with how it turned out. The staff are friendly, welcoming and made sure everything was great. Thank you so much!

Called in today in Roath - I absolutely love this place - got 2 loaves of focaccia bread and 2 cappuccino’s to take away - it was absolutely gawwwwjus!!!! Lovely man served me too - thank you so much

Really disappointing visit today. Got a small sourdough and two jam doughnuts for £9. Sourdough tasted stale with no real flavour and doughnuts were oily and unpleasant. Feel totally ripped off! Lidl’s sourdough is better.

Popped in yesterday whilst waiting for the library to open. It's the same as the Whitchurch Road one and very well furnished. It's also got a nice little courtyard out the back with water bowls for dogs. The problem is it's extremely quiet. It's so quiet it feels odd. Pretty pricey (a few people have mentioned this to me and they weren't wrong). I asked for a cortado but I was given what I would say was a macchiato. The man did say their cortado was small, odd. All a bit of a strange experience to be honest. Annoying because it's in a handy location, which is probably its problem.

All other locations are amazing but at this one the staff seem to be uncomfortable with being there which has made every interaction so awkward - they could do with training on coffee here too as the machine isn't dialled in properly and they have always over steamed the oat milk - sticking to the other spots from now on.

Went in here for the first time yesterday for a takeaway. Staff not welcoming AT ALL! Asked for a cappuccino super hot and got the smallest flat white which was left on the counter to cool!!! When questioned I was told it was a cappuccino! (Clearly not) Food was lovely but overpriced. Such a shame as we have just moved to Radyr so this would have been our regular haunt, we will have to keep looking!

Went in to buy a loaf of fresh bread , unfortunately they don't take cash. So left without buying any .

I used to love this bakery but if they took cash and therefore didn't have to pay high bank charges they could afford to pay more staff. If you don't want my CASH I will not shop there anymore

Really good food, but this shop regularly doesn’t have enough staff and the wait is too long.

Beautiful as always, I am in love with the sourdough and the plethora of plant based products. Tried the breakfast roll this morning and it was stunning. I would definitely recommend Edit: attended multiple times since and can totally recommend the Kuinn Aman(?) Not sure how to spell it but it's like a deep fried croissant with a sugar syrup coating

The coffee, the almond and chocolate croissants, the delicious cakes, the sourdough and the incredibly warm welcome from the staff (especially Flora and Lou who go out of their way to make you feel at home) in this fantastic bakery / cafe are all excellent.

Lovely location, delicious yummy food and genuine atmosphere. The baristas and staff are a lovely bunch and overall offer a very warm and pleasant experience (Special mention to Flora!) Awesome vegan options, would have rated this place highly after every single visit. One of the best Vegan spots ever found, very happy to support it :)

Well… wow! What a great place. I’m not from the area just happened to drive past while at work and thought yeah why not. Asked the very polite and helpful lady at the till what she would recommend and I couldn’t fault it. I got a focaccia which was absolutely incredible, so soft and full of flavour. A cheese toastie again fantastic flavour and perfectly cooked. I got a chocolate cruffin which I haven’t eaten yet but am eagerly looking forward to it as a treat for later. I wish I could rate higher than 5 stars as this was absolutely amazing food. I hope I’m in the area again soon as I will be thinking about this food for a long time

Really lovely coffee but sadly no gluten free products.

The coffee and bakes are very good. Service, for us, has not been warm and welcoming on two occasions. Vegan only, prices higher than average.

Still my favourite baker and now closer from home :) Please come and visit.

Already loved this bakery before they opened up closer to home. The most lovely freshly baked bread and pastries, especially the cronuts (Croissant doughnut hybrid)! All of their food is freshly made and they also do a phenomenal hot chocolate that is rich and not too sweet and lovely coffee. This will definitely be my new local favourite.
