Alderman green fish bar in Coventry

Nice food but becoming very expensive lately, I use this chippy regularly and it is very popular so expect queue's. Parking can be a nightmare as chippy is on a bend in the road.

Ordered 2 large haddock, chips & mushy peas. Got it home, the batter was thin & tasteless, the fish still had its skin on so I couldn’t eat that (the dog enjoyed it) & my partners fish had bones in it. Chips were ok but nothing exciting & despite the peas being bright green they were the only thing about the meal that was lovely. I presumed because of the large queue & the extortionate prices that we’d been in for a treat but in reality we paid £19 for an inedible meal. Definitely won’t be going back.

I tried this today after high recommendations from friends. Myself and my husband both had fish, chips and curry sauce. Everything was hot so I can’t complain about that. The curry sauce and chips were also lovely. However the fish was not great at all, the batter was soft ( we had it wrapped so not too much of a problem) the fish inside was mushy, not flaky or fish like consistency at all. My husband also had a bone in his fish. We both ended up leaving most of our fish. We will get from here again but will not be ordering the fish, so will try something different. Thank you

Had a pie and chip and my Mrs had donner meat and chips, really got the juices flowing that night, however the aftermath was horrendous she basically blasted the porcelain off the bog, anyways would recommend have been a customer for a long time and will Still continue to eat here, also cockroach Dave in the comments was the inspiration for making this.

We called in for a very late tea as were were coming back from the hospital after an operation, and ordered mini fish, chips and mushy peas and steak and kidney pie and chips. We have never used this chip shop before and will not be using it again. The mini fish was awful, the very small bit of fish was covered with awful greasy and chewy batter and the chips in both our meals were scrappy and overcooked. The pie was ok but that's because there was no cooking involved. The whole meal cost over £12 and after the day we had, we just wanted some decent food without the hassle of cooking, mine went in the bin( even my cats wouldn't eat the bit of fish) along with my husbands chips, needless to say we went to bed hungry. Would not recommend

I have bought food from here quite a few times, but this visit will be my last. Arrived and queued as normal, but staff ignored me and two others to serve a guy waiting in the doorway..... I wasn't the only person who was made to wait longer even though we were in the queue long before this chap showed up. Just shear rudeness.... never again.

Can never fault the food. That’s if they get the order right asked for a mixed couple a couple of times now and just got doner meat - drive pretty far out to get the food so when I get home to find it’s incorrect pretty annoying make sure you watch them as they do the meat. But when they do get it right the food is great

Ordered via Uber eats, put in the notes for salt and vinegar on chips. Chips came with no salt and vinegar. Next time I ordered via Uber eats, I put Same notes but decide to call restaurant to clarify the notes I added. Young lady on phone was very rude, hung up before I could finish talking, when I tried to explain briefly why I called (about last time notes not being looked at) she rudely interrupted me and shouted “anything else” clearly she couldn’t handle the heat in the kitchen. Food was terrible and tasteless rang to complain person I spoke to was abrubt and rude saying all I wanted was free food. My family had looked forward to a Friday treat all week and were very let down and disappointed. Would definitely not recommended this place. Spent nearly 25 pounds on tasteless food. Fish was non discript batter soggy, chips tasted of nothing. My son usually eats all his sausage and chips and left 80 percent of his. The person on the phone who I presume is the owner or manager has the people's skills of a robot and is clearly in denial about the quality of his food.

We have eaten here for many years. Last night's order included the chefs special buger (not on very often) when cutting it on half the middle was raw and inedible which had to be thrown away. A really disappointing meal will be a while before we order again.

Ordered food with the just eat app and it was missing an item So I popped to the shop and was met with a very cheery greeting They listened and replaced the missing item plus more The food is always amazing and you always get a very warm welcome

Cannot believe it, ordered dinner from Aldermans green fish bar at 18:00 and it was delivered at 21:30. Absolutely fuming. I have been charged 18 pounds for something that I sent back!! Never going there again. Do not use!!!!!

This business seems quite happy breaking both the law, and government guidelines within the Coronavirus Act 2020. For the second time I was refused service due to having a Mental Health condition that exempts me from wearing a mask. I am considering taking legal action. I don't think the staff even know that they will be personally liable if they breach the Equality Act 2010 by discriminating against someone with a disability.

I was disgusted and humiliated when I visited this shop and was refused service after I explained that I did not need to wear a mask. To make things worse the Manager came over to the counter and shouted in my face about how him having diabetes was one of the reasons he was refusing to serve me. I tried to explain that what they were doing was not even following the Government guidelines but this fell on deaf ears too. I'm hoping this blatant discrimination might have been a one off but I am considering taking things further anyway, as any discrimination is of course, against the law. Also, in an effort to stop them subjecting other customers to such confrontational, and potentially criminal, behaviour.

The food was good as usual. But the older women in the shop always forgets to pack my order correctly. Like today for instance, I asked for Tartare Sauce but she gave me a jar of cockles, which I had to pay for me, when I didn’t even ask for. This isn’t the first time this has happened, I have been using the shop for over 3 years, and it’s happened numerous times. When the whole order isn’t packed, and items are missing. They need to have staff just listen and understand correctly. Was just such a disappointment today!

First time we were disappointed with our very large cod. Told that it was fresh (not frozen) fish as usual but was definitely frozen, so chewy. Batter was excessive and uncooked next to the fish.

The food here is really good and value for money. The staff are really good and polite too.However a big downside is the waiting time. I appreciate covid forces us all into a different way of life but even before this, you can queue for ages for your chips. (not good when queuing outside in November) There seems to be more focus on the delivery side of things than those people in the queue.Speed this up and it'll be great

Heard about this chippi had high expectations well it was very disappointing let’s start with the fish it was pure batter & greasy 4 of us all agreed loads of chips but very ( white ) I’ve used this chip shop for many years it’s never been the same since the Cypriots left won’t be returning!!!!

The fish cakes were to die for - this place is fantastic. Don’t call the owner Greek tho - he’ll spit in your kebab and the owners son just noms cockles next to the kebab machine

Really nice food and the people there are very nice with very quick service. The shop is always busy too, but they always are fast too.

I have used this fish bar for many years. A month ago we had two small fish and a portion of chips. Huge amount of chips but the fish was overcooked and dry. Oh well everyone has a bad day so today we ordered the same and not long after it opened.I really cannot describe the taste of the fish . (mini cod) Batter had a funny taste to it and the fish inside was meagre and stringy. Chips smaller but that's ok but once again didn't really taste very nice. Oh and the price has gone up too. Unfortunately maybe time to find somewhere else.

I ordered chicken tikka kebab and chips in a tray and was extremely disappointed. Chicken tasted burnt and was dry and overcooked. It was my 1st time using them and i will be very wary using them again

Amazing fish and chips , the fish was cooked fresh on arrival so it was lovely to eat hot instead of warm like most chip shops would highly recommend this chippy to anyone that's in Coventry visiting or even that lives there !!!

I make quite a detour to visit this excellent Fish & Chip shop, but it's worth the trouble.The staff are both efficient and friendly and though it's always busy I have never had to queue for long. Although there is a wide choice of food, I stick to Cod or Haddock, unusually they will grill their fish, rather than Deep Fry, if you wish. The fish is superb, so much tastier than in establishments closer to home.With the very good 'Old Crown' just up the road this out of the way corner of Coventry is an excellent place to eat and drink.

Great food - quite extensive and more than fish and chips. It’s very popular, hence the queues. But, it’s worth the wait because everything is fresh and hot.

Called in for tea while traveling in the area, had Cod and chips and mixed kebab and chips, cooked fresh, large portions, food was lovely, very friendly staff, will call again next time travelling in the area, tables outside so sat in sun and enjoyed.

Highly recommended the cod is made fresh cooked and batted to perfection one of best serves I’ve received in Coventry due to the friendly staff go above and beyond to give you quick fast serves with a smile wouldn’t dream of eating anywhere esle would drive miles if I had to couldn’t eat at another chippy after eating here

This place is the best chippy we have been to. Over the years and moving to different places, we have tried a few. The staff are really friendly and the food is delicious and fresh. I am surprised by the negative views, if you treat people with respect and they will do the same! It's not rocket science. Great place & I would highly recommend!

Nice food but the same women misses things of my order EVERYTIME she serves me it has to be the 4th time now that she’s missed something!!!if I get served by someone else my order is perfect me it always seems to be her she is also rude and disrespectful she once hugged someone over my uncovered food

After a few years of missing out on a chippy due to my coeliac's disease I decided to search Tripadviser for a gluten free chip shop, to fulfil a craving. Alderman green fish bar popped up but I couldn't see any reviews confirming they were gluten free.

I loved the service and how clean the restaurant is. Perfect for a take out with your friends. I would absolutely recommend dropping by.

Lovely and high quality food. We had the grilled haddock and the peri-peri chicken and they were delicious. The staff was very kind and friendly as well. Definitely going back.

The amount of years I have drove past this little gold mine and not popped in. I decided today to pop in and get a takeaway for both my wife and myself. Chatted with the owner on facebook and then popped in, said hello.

The cod and haddock come battered or grilled... The kebab meats are tasty and worth a try also we love a half chicken every now and again.. Bloody lovely.. Staff are amazing the lace is so clean to.. Just amazing here

Food is excellent and the place is very popular so its always full. Appears that Haddock is the norm and Cod you order, and I have no problem with that, guarantees you fresh cod which hasnt sat!

Went in to get a quick bite on my lunch break, I got kabab meat and chips in a tray, the food was both fresh and delightful, the food was served very fast, The staff were very kind and friendly and fast as well as making sure that I was satisfied with my order.

Popped in for a quick bite before lunch and got myself a battered sausage,chips and a chicken burger, was told the wait would be five minutes and had a lovely chat with the server Victoria. Got home and the food was excellent ,glad that this is my local

I was in Alderman's Green area of Coventry and called in to this fish and chip shop. It was a lovely sunnyvday and I ate them outside. They provideTables. You won't be disappointed. They come highly recommended. The queue outside the door is testimony to this. Delicious fish and chips.

I have visited this fish bar many times.i usually call in noon time when it has just opened.being a vegetarian I choose chips scollops and mushy peas.the portion of chips is large enough for three people to enjoy,scollops crispy and lovely mushy peas.the shop is spotlessly clean and the staff very friendly.all in all the best fish and chip shop around this area.

We don't live anywhere near Aldermans Green Chip shop but we still drive over especially as it's the best Chip shop in Coventry and no where else has chips as good quality or delicious.
