Albert's Schloss in Birmingham

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish! Considering we came for lunch on December 20th when a lot of people were breaking up for Christmas, the service and food were top notch, especially considering how busy it was. The festive menu was so tasty, and with great presentation. It was my wife's birthday and we had a great time. Thank you.

I was appalled by the way my friends and I (3M, 3F) were treated while trying to enter this venue on New Year’s Eve. What started as an exciting night quickly turned into a humiliating and upsetting experience due to the rude and unprofessional behavior of the staff at the entrance. We spoke with the person managing the line earlier in the evening, who assured us that we could purchase tickets at the door. However, as we approached the front, the bouncers and the woman handling payments were hostile from the start. They asked for our IDs, which we provided, and then directed us to pay by card. As we prepared to pay, the woman taking payments inexplicably questioned one of my friends, asking, “Are you okay?” The question was entirely unwarranted and left us stunned. After a minute of unnecessary interrogation, my friend was finally allowed to proceed. When it was my turn to step forward, I presented my ID and prepared to pay. However, I was stopped immediately by a male bouncer who claimed I was “too drunk” and added, “your attitude stinks.” This accusation was not only false but insulting—I am teetotal and do not drink alcohol at all. Despite explaining this calmly, the staff remained rude, dismissive, and unwilling to listen. They conferred with the person at the front, who had earlier assured us entry, and decided to turn us all away. Those in my group who had already paid were refunded, while the rest of us were denied entry for reasons that were completely fabricated. The behavior of the bouncers and the woman at the payment desk was unacceptable—condescending, power-hungry, and completely unfit for a venue that is supposedly held in “high regard.” This was my first experience with this venue, and it will undoubtedly be my last. No one should have to endure being singled out, disrespected, or humiliated just for trying to enjoy a night out. If I could give zero stars, I would. Whoever is in charge needs to seriously address the front-line staff’s behavior and implement proper training on respect and professionalism. This was an absolutely disgraceful experience, and I will never return.

Fantastic venue, food, music staff amazing.

Really slow service and staff inattentive. 2 and half hours for two courses was way too long with children in tow. There was a big push to sell drinks whilst we sat there with empty plates and just wanted a dessert menu. Had to ask to order mains, then ask for the dessert menu and then ask twice for the bill. Waited at least 20-30 minutes each time we asked for something. Food was good when it arrived but the slow service soured our overall experience.

We have been this lovely place first time it was good experience, most I scared to go new pub or restaurant because not finding more option to eat , here also same not found much but I’m happy what we ate,service and food was great and staff are very friendly and helpful they then nicely guideline the people to eat . #Albert’tschloss

Me and my friends booked a table for christmas and had an amazing time! Ines was especially attentive and helpful, really willing to accommodate our needs. Will definitely be back!

Bouncers AJ,Naz and Nema. Great customer service and great doormen. Very respectful and very gentle with all the people we showed up with, we were with. Very good lads I’m happy that they were the ones working on the night we came.

If you have 2 days to wait for a server and then a drink then it's ok

I’m from London and have visited this Albert Schloss a number of times when in Birmingham. My most recent visit a Friday night in December and I can honestly say I don’t see the hype. £18.50 for a beer and a cocktail and no where to sit. People barging into each other. The environment isn’t safe for anyone with a disability. Ques and ques of people outside being let in despite inside being extremely full. Dangerous and very unsafe.

Was very busy had to wait 1 hr for a starter our wheelchair was put in a corner though had to keep asking people to move to get out use toilet which wasn’t ideal when there were other tables available

Good food and service. Had an amazing Christmas lunch with my colleagues. The staff was polite and the service was good.

Booked a table for 4 this weekend, unfortunately we couldn't get there due to the storm and trains being cancelled (we were coming from Cheshire) so we rang ahead to let them know and they still charged us £10 each. Disgusting service, no human compassion

If you want to enjoy good food and drink and a friendly party atmosphere with great service, then this is the place to go. It ticks all the boxes, you get what you pay for and didn’t disappoint.

Love the food and the atmosphere here. We always look forward to our visit. We were lucky to have Harry again as our server he’s great at his job and a lovely guy. We did the small plates on the Friday night and went back for breakfast Saturday morning. Looking forward to our Christmas party there next Saturday!

Overpriced for what it, schnitzel was quite greasy. Lovely atmosphere and drinks. Was nice to try somewhere new but don’t think I would return.

Awful service and general rudeness off bar staff in Birminghams Albert Schloss last night

Went last thursday and ordered 2 vodka and coke. When the bartender run it up on the till it showed £6.25 each.He passes me the card machine and it's magically £15. The guy had added a 20% tip without saying a word. I questioned it and was told to pay or he would get a bouncer. Staff stealing from customers

Is the name Albert Schloss German for absolute shizen cause it may as well be (all be it sloppy) considering the Germans are meant to have no sense of humour this place was a fu@#ing joke

The usual good atmosphere we have experienced in other Albert Schloss' but it is so frustrating not to be able to get served quickly without having to wait behind orders for Cocktails (which take ages to make) in a Bier Haus!.

Came here last night for a meal before a show at the symphony hall.Have been here before but not for a meal. Meal and waiting staff lovely...couldn't fault either,staff were polite and cheerful. However,as it was a very wet rainy night I had an umbrella...as we were shown our seats which were squashed up a corner and someone's coat took up most of the seat on a hook right by my husband's seat I was told 'can you put that away please' I was shocked as to what he was referring to...as I hadn't even took my coat off or even sat down.'sorry put what away?' I replied... 'That' erm what? 'your umbrella' !!!!!!! Absolutely shocked! I said well if you move that coat we can sit down...to which he threw some customers coat on a bar stool opposite! The customer then came and had a go at us for 'dumping his coat' to which I replied 'it wasn't us' the customer then apologised. It was the gentleman on front of house...! Seriously needs some patience and manners! We spent nearly £70.

Such an amazing place. Full of atmosphere, friendly staff and the cheese fondue was out of this world!

Managed to get a table for 5, you really need to book early for this place, it's a magnet for the 20-35 years old. It's not really German, it's German style beer and food, I'll give you that, but there's no Umpah Band !!! There is live music though.. Very popular, but the food and drink comes out quickly so no complaints, if you don't book, its a long queue outside...

Fantastic live music and great party atmosphere. Very popular venue. Can be very crowded. Get served fairly quickly at the bar despite this. Expect to queue if arriving post 8pm.

Nice looking bar. Quite busy, but not a great experience. Visited with a friend on the afternoon of 29th November. They had one of my favourite ales on, Mad Goose. The young bearded tattooed man poured 2 pints, and they were bith very cloudy, Mad Goose is a bright, clear ale, so I asked him to change them. He became very arrogant, and said "so I just waste these then" and marched up the bar, where he seemed to give bith pints to another customer? Upon his return I told him that the beer was not right, he shrugged and I had two Pauliners. Which were fine. He cockily asked if I liked the colour of these, before he asked me to pay. Rude, arrogant, and poor product knowledge.

Fabulous breakfast and double celebration, visit to german market and husbands birthday. Great service by harry and surprise bday muffin. Thank you to dj gor bday message and record. Thank you for making us so welcome.

Amazing staff and professional service.

Visited for Sunday dinner. We didn’t make a booking so they kindly sat us at the bar which was great! Food, service and atmosphere was excellent. The staff in particular are always so wonderful and friendly and provide the best service !

Atmosphere fantastic, shame the food we had wasn't. Set Christmas dinner, starter of smoked salmon missing celearic slaw, bread broken and hard and turkey was dry and pig in blanket rock hard. I was so looking forward to it on my first visit to Birmingham as was recommended. Also I know the place is busy but our waiter was particularly sharp on a couple of occasions when we asked where the side of potatoes and veg were for the main (turns out on another table and he then blamed the server in front of us when we asked for another, not great!) and when ordering drinks. Then wanted a 10% service charge on top that despite this not being advised when company paid for Christmas night in advance ,would have happily paid if service was good but no chance!!

Had such a fab time at Albert Schloss - such lovely friendly service, food, drinks and music. Great vibe.

Been here a few times on visits to Birmingham each time midweek lunchtime, good selection of lager and cosy table with a fire in the middle is a firm customer favourite.

Organised a school reunion on a Saturday night. Events team were fantastic from the start and the team & entertainment were fantastic. Ludwigs was a great space to hire for a special occasion

Had an absolutely lovely afternoon.... super company, a lovely relaxed atmosphere with a singer in the background. The sunday roast and dessert were delicious and plentiful! Reece was funny and attentive!

Visited last Saturday. Be careful! When booking for 9 people we had to secure it with a £300 deposit (not required for 8 or less), this was just for drinks! It's £500 for food. On the evening this turned out to be a 'MINIMUM SPEND', that's 6-7 pints per person! After 2.5 hours we had to leave the venue and the staff blankly refused to refund the remaining third of the balance! Live music was ok but space around our booth was very limited with a lot of through traffic.

We had a lovely dining experience today, my son's birthday. The service was 10/10, Reece was our waiter, he really is an asset to Albert Schloss, lovely guy, he made our day. The three course meal was amazing 10/10. I would highly recommend Albert Schloss, a relaxed environment, piano playing, a perfect day, we will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family. Thankyou

What can I say ,it's like your own fun ,warm bubble ...my daughter and myself had the most fabulous Sunday afternoon fantastic service , atmosphere amazing . Cocktails 🤩🤩🤩 ,we had the pleasure of being served by the lovely Caroline a most fantastic lady ,she engaged in conversation and gave so much input and advice on what cocktails to have based on our tastes , ✋ up to the lovely lady so satisfying to engage with her . Also a hands up to the manager who took the time and trouble to ask how much we were enjoying our afternoon. Last hands up to the lovely young lady who sang and played key board and the gospel choir later on fantastic. All I can say is go visit ,you won't regret it !!!

The beer was excellent, and the burgers were made with good-quality meat. However, the mature male waiter didn’t have a good attitude and didn’t explain things clearly when I was unsure how to order from the menu. I left feeling disappointed. A few months ago, I visited with a friend for lunch,and The British guests were given seats with a view, by the window while we foreigners were seated at wooden tables. At other this restaurants, people are free to sit at a variety of seats regardless of nationality. I think the attitude of shopkeepers should be reviewed. I think it's the service industry that treats every customer equally. I don’t think I’ll return, as I felt quite uncomfortable.

Is this restaurant serious? I am wearing a Burberry windbreaker and a standard shirt on my upper body 👔， The black pants are made of pure cotton and paired with white Salomon, creating a perfect casual and formal outfit. However, the security guard said I had a clothing issue and refused to let me in! I would like to know what your dress code is exactly！ it’s totally crazy!

Excellent place, second time we visited here, staff are incredible,very friendly & helpful, just realised they have a branch near us in London! Just wish they hadn’t got rid of the beef wellington on the menu as it was just superb! Food was amazing. Would love to go here in the evening if they have live music!

From the outside the place looks very interesting so we were drawn in. Giving 5 stars for the service. The food was not great for our taste but I am optimistic it will be better next time. One of the food items was much too oily for our liking. Shanice the waitress took our feedback very well and communicated it to the chefs. Best of all she didn’t even charge us for it. And she gave us a dessert drink for free.

Massive plates of food - my pork shoulder could have fed 3 ! Wonderful atmosphere with a fantastic singer - first time visit, hope to be back again soon.

Last night, we had a fantastic dining experience thanks to our waitress Mra, who truly went above and beyond. She was attentive, friendly, and had a great sense of timing—always there when we needed her without being overbearing. What impressed us most was her excellent beer recommendation. She suggested a beer that was perfectly balanced, refreshing, and exactly what we were looking for. Her warm smile and professionalism made our evening so enjoyable. If you’re looking for great service and a spot-on beer suggestion, I highly recommend dining here and asking for her!

A bit late with this review but I arrived on a Sunday morning and was the only customer. The manager Reece was attentive, friendly, very caring and a great person overall. Without him - it would have just been a normal restaurant experience. Thank you Reece

I’ve been to Albert Schloss a few times now and normally have a good night there. Thought I’d drop in for a few drinks last night on my way home but before I could I was stopped by the bouncer who looked me up and down as if to say I wasn’t dressed for the occasion. I was wearing smart casual shoes, trousers, a plain white tee shirt, and a jacket over it. He then proceeded to tell me that they aren’t letting in people who are there on their own/ single people. To which I asked why, and what the reason was, to which he didn’t really have an answer for. I was a bit shocked as I’d never been turned away from there before. He then proceeded to ask me if I was from the hospitality industry as I know on Sundays they have industry nights which I’ve been to on some occasions as some of my friends work in hospitality. And I said no but some of friends are and might be joining later. He still seemed to have an issue with letting me in even thought the place was fairly empty. I didn’t want to name drop as I wanted to see the reason for not letting me in. He then was a bout to deny me entry until I mentioned a few people I knew there, which allowed him to then change his mind and let me in. Im only writing this review because I think it pretty shocking that they discriminate against single men from going into their establishments. It used to be like this 20 years ago, but I’m shocked that it still happens now. What’s worse is that I then saw plenty of other single guys/ girls walk into the place after I was inside. Not dropping the race card but was it because I was a POC? You start thinking these things when things like this happen. Bouncers sometimes have been able to get away with discriminating against men/ groups of men, especially those that are POC, however times have changed and I think this is pretty poor from an establishment that seems to be quite inclusive. I just hope that others haven’t had to go through this type of experience or at least Albert Schloss make sure that this kind of treatment doesn’t happen in future. I’ve not had any kind of issues before here, but I felt the need to write this so that someone could address it or at least be aware that they can start losing valuable customers or start to get a bad reputation if this continues.

This is not a restaurant by any standards ! My party and I wanted to book a restaurant to celebrate an anniversary and when we walked in we couldn't quite believe it ! It's basically a nightclub that serves food ! It was absolutely rammed even though there are door staff counting people in and out we had to wait a while before we were seated and there was literally nowhere to stand without being pushed and shoved out of the way, we couldnt speak to each other because it was too noisy, even after we were seated it was just way too noisy to catch up across the table. The food was nice, but you advertise yourself as some fantastic Oktoberfest Bierhalle ! But are just a packed nightclub ! Please change your advertising and make people aware you are not a Bierhalle, or a restaurant !! We were all quite disappointed !

Visited Friday 11/10/24 It's a good bar with good atmosphere but the bar staff need re training for manners. They need to understand they are employed and reflecting the business. The tall dark haired skinny barman stands there like he is only serving who he feels he wants?? You're BAR staff you dafty. If you want to feel like you're actually something get a REAL job 😂😂 I won't be booking our Christmas party with yourselves on the reflection of your bar staff. How bad is that when your lowly bar staff has just cost you a table of 35? Ridiculous business sense.

Went to Alberts this Saturday and I have to say Bano on the bar was amazing, she was upstairs, one woman show, I have never seen anyone pour and serve drinks like it- she deserves a raise!! The only person on the upstairs bar yet her hospitality is amazing. She had to deal with many rude people but did so in such a courteous manner, Kudos!!! Hard job on a Saturday night but she made it great for us.

A "supposed" German themed beer hall but due to its initial popularity its very busy and very, very noisy. I'd describe it as an Anglo-German attempt as the details are wrong. When is Lemonchello a German shot ? Mainly British roasts on a Sunday???? The authentic German beer was expensive but good.

Bouncer was very entilted and left us waiting outside when one of our friends was already inside. He was standing speaking to his colleague and ignored us for 10 minutes. Many people were let in through another direction of the queue. Finally we were let in with no apology and a disrespectful attitude.

Service left some room for improvement given the price poont. Bar was good, but restaurant missed the mark. Orders confused, drinks not right. Overall a good evening largely due to the company. Wouldn't rush back.

Booked this for a pre birthday celebration and pre concert family meal. Unfortunately we was very late for out table, but I must say they still accommodated all 8 of us. We was given a great large table in the perfect location of the restaurant. The staff was all awesome. The drinks flowed, especially my perfect made Margarita's. Our food was outstanding. Thank you to all the kitchen team, amazing food cooked to perfection.. Big thank you goes out to Matt the manager, Jacob our waiter and Sofia our server. This venue is totally perfect. Amazing atmosphere, great drinks, outstanding food and perfect service.

A nice large venue with loud music in the evening with a party vibe. They lost a star for over charging me at the bar and not listening to me when I questioned it, then the barmaid went and poured an extra drink I didn't order. There were 3 of us, not 4. Trying to get a member of staff to speak to was near impossible as they only served new people at the bar.

Lemonchello is cheap. Doesn’t taste like lemons at all.entertainment consisted of a DJ which was shocking. It was a Sunday night played random music with a blue cross on stage which was hiddious.

I visited as part of a group of colleagues, service was OK but slow, and one drink not delivered but was rectified. Music was too loud to hold a conversation with each other. The drinks were a reasonable price, but the added £1 to pay for the artisites is a bit of a rip off. As an observation if you are using glitter balls they need dusting regularly.

Great food and beer, service was fast, they even managed to squeeze us in when they were full (we didn't have a reservation). Our server Jon was amazing.

Not bad inside. Had a poor experience with the door staff and manager which was very disappointing, I just popped outside to ring my family and they wanted to throw me out; the default position was trying to look for a reason for it. I was let back in as there was no reason for it. Door security should be much more than that. Disappointing really as otherwise it was alright.
