This restaurant is attractively situated in a Georgian street, and offers something a little different for the discerning diner. The food was expertly cooked and tasty and prices were reasonable. Helpful staff also added to the enjoyment of the experience. The restaurant is modern and well-appointed whilst maintaining character. I had a stuffed vine leaf starter for something suitably Roman, whilst my hubby chose king prawns (so good I snaffled one!) He and my sons then chose Turkish mixed grills which they found delicious. All the food tasted good, and my son also enjoyed his baked Halloumi starter. The restaurant also offers vegetarian and vegan options. My only criticism is I would have preferred my sea bass to have been pre-boned. Otherwise though, overall a lovely place to eat, recommended. :)

Popped in here for a quick meal, I’m really into Turkish right now. We just ordered some meze. I liken it to being served up stuff from Iceland, poor quality deep fried things and the dips turned out of pots - nothing appeared fresh. It’s was expensive for what we had. Service was good though, but I wouldn’t recommend. Sorry.

My only regret about my visit to Alanya in Colchester is that I couldn't finish it all. We started with the dolma and babaganoush, which was served with Turkish bread, all of which was excellent. I had the Iskender lamb kofte which I very much enjoyed but the size of the portion defeated me. My wife said that the King Prawns were the best that she had had in a long time. It wasn't cheap so don't go until you are hungry enough to eat everything. I thought £5 for a bottle of Efes, £5.50 by the time service is added on, was a bit steep, but overall, a good experience.

My sister and I visited this restaurant as we were looking for good vegetarian food in Colchester and we were walking up and down looking at menus. The food here was delicious and the welcome was very warm. We had a mix of dishes, cold meze, hot meze and the vegetable and halloumi kebab. All were very tasty and very well presented with good flatbread.

Went here for a date night with the hubs, walked in to an empty restaurant on a Saturday night, the lady welcomed us and was very sweet, ordered a drink but they didn’t have it, so ended up with something else, waitress was apologetic though - food came out pretty quick - it was nice - the chilli sauce was our only let down - if you like lime pickle this is the place to get your chilli sauce from, very over powering by lime - me and my husband both love Turkish food especially the chilli sauces but this was by far not the nicest one we have tasted. All in all the restaurant was ok, the waitress was very sweet an the food was tasty. Not sure we will be hurrying back anytime soon though...

We visited our friends in Colchester this weekend and they told us we have booked a Turkish restaurant ...we admit we were a little wary ! On arrival they asked us if we were happy with the table and we were offered a choice. The hostess made us feel welcome and ensured we were comfortable. Unfortunately there was a large table which was making a lot of noise and the conversation was not for family hearing which did initially affect the enjoyment of the evening they were very crude and made a lot of mess but left shortly after we had started the meal. For one criticism e felt the mess they left at the table should have been cleared up however busy they were as it was very off putting for guest who arrived later and spoilt the overall ambience of the restaurant - in fairness have taken 5 minutes. The food was served and had lovely flavour and was a great surprise. the service was attentive but not intrusive and we were all really pleased with the meal, the freshness and quantity. The chef came to the table to ensure was all ok , a nice touch. A good evening would recommend and hope they do well!! Would return and will be looking for similar where we live

We recently visited the restaurant and made the food order one was supposed to come with chips another was to come with mashed potatoes both came with rice. When this was questioned after some huffing and puffing the right ingredients were delivered. By Colchester standards this is a very expensive restaurant. Server was ok but after the meal we were talking and it became very obvious they wanted to leave as they kept hovering over us and at one point put the lights out at the back of the restaurant. When this was mentioned denials were forthcoming. The decor has not changed very much from when it was the Indian Ocean. Some prints on the wall. It closes Sunday and Monday. There never seems to be many people eating even on Friday and Saturday evening.lf this continues I reckon they will be out of business within six months because there are many restaurants in Colchester that serve better meals for a much cheaper price. We wont be going back.

I waited to try this new restsurant since it’s opening, and finally got the chance last night. It was quite empty for a friday night, but we didn’t go for the ambiance, more to relax and eat well, which we did.The owners are very welcoming and friendly. The food was very good, we had chicken shashlik and lamb shashlik, it was really good, very flavoursome, grilled and tender at the same time.I can’t wait to go back with the children

Nicely placed 5 mins walk away from the main town and situated on North Hill is the hidden gem Alanya. We were greeted on arrival by our hostess Handan with a very warm welcome and shown to our table. The menu was extensive and crammed with lots of delicious authentic food. So much in fact that we struggled to decide, at which point Handan kindly offered some advice. I was offered the chance to go off menu and allow Ayhan (the chef) the chance to cook me a dish from his home area (Adana). Wow ! This dish was amazing.....cooked to my liking and spiced to perfection. My Wife, Son and his girlfriend chose their dishes from the menu. All the dishes were beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The portions were very generous and well worth the prices, which were very reasonable.Ayhan even came out of the kitchen and sat with me and chatted for a while about his home area and family. He genuinely cares about the food he prepares and wants all the guests to enjoy their experience. This was definitely the best Turkish food I have eaten (and that includes visits to Turkey and Northern Cyprus!)The only thing missing was the sunshine. ....but it is January !!!I am planning a return visit with work colleagues and their Wives. I don't recommend somewhere if I don't love it......and I love Alanya.I wish Handan and Ayhan a long and successful time in Colchester. I'm sure it will be if my experience is anything to go by.As a guide. ....meze starters, 4 mains, 2 beers each, deserts and tea.... £120. Bargain.

Brilliant night of authentic food and accommodating hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble to change and combine different dishes from the menu. One person in our party who had travelled to Adana where the chef originates from commented on the food's authenticity. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal accompanied by some delicious Turkish wine.

Had dinner here the other evening and the food was great. Trouble being we had eyes bigger than our bellies and couldn’t do justice to some of it. Took it home with us instead. The lamb cutlets were divine, so tender. The hot meze was delicious. Overall a lovely restaurant. I wish it every success and look forward to my next visit. Go it’s worth a visit.

We found this restaurant to be a very pleasant, with a good selection if reasonably priced dishes to suit most tastes. We had an excellent and enjoyable meal which was generously portioned and very tasty. The service was attentive but not intrusive, and our waitress was very good. This is a restaurant we will gladly return to again.

Overpriced, overrated and disappointing experience. Came here last week for my daughter's 21st. We found the service to be unfriendly and unattentive, many waiters standing around doing nothing, when we left nobody opened the door or wished us goodbye. The food to be reasonable, however i paid £25 for the Mirra special and my lamb was very chewy. My daughters pornstar cocktail was £12 and was sickly sweet and unpleasant to drink. Our bill was a lot higher than we were expecting. W thought it was very overpriced and overated.
