Al Khayma in Redbridge

Really nice place to chill and grab some good food. We went at a time when there was nobody there very quiet and soft music in the background, sat next to the windows as it was summer. Food was good and tasty and our waitress was kind and helpful always looking over in case we needed anything. Drinks were nice and colourful. Nice decor 👌 would recommend.

Inside surrounding is good. Enough space, not too much crowd. and sitting is comfortable. Quality and value of the food was ok-ish. They tried to include Service charge with the bill. so, I ask them to cancel it. Make sure you check the bill properly. We are not supposed to pay service charge without our consent. Staff was busy and hard to get them even though there were not a lot of customers inside. When we ate first time here, the service was great.

Al Khayma is the best hidden secret in Illford! I had been wanting to eat Lebanese food for a while and knew there were a few decent restaurants in the city but my partner convinced me that his colleagues swore by this ‘fantastic’ restaurant in Illford but I was not convinced! However since he insisted and I wanted to eat, I begrudgingly took his suggestion and he booked us in for dinner. The place was easy to find. Just 7 minutes walking from Illford train station on the newly Elizabeth Line or 2-3 bus stop if one does not fancy the walk. There we were greeted by Saad who was super friendly and accommodating. He was extremely helpful and helped us with some choices on the menu while offering excellent suggestions! The restaurant had an ambient atmosphere and the gentle traditional music playing in the background gave it a relaxing vide that travelled the mind to exotic destinations. It also had a well decorated flower wall that would look great for those #hashtags on Instagram (if anyone is up to that kind of stuff!) So when the food arrived, the restaurant offered little appetising sides with Lebanese bread that was warm and homely. I ordered the Shish Tawook (charcoal grilled skewers of chicken) which was juicy and cooked to perfection with a side of chips but it also came with a complimentary salad. My partner ordered a grilled boneless baby chicken that he said it was crispy on the outside with a soft interior that was super tender and flavoursome. But wait. There is more..! Since it was B.H Monday and were were out-out, we decided to do a little extra and ordered a Halloumi side and another one called Batara Harra. In one word I would describe it as mind blowing! The portion of the Halloumi was surprisingly generous and the Batara Harra was a dish of potato cubes marinated in all sorts of flavours and served on a bed of sweet peppers and chilly. It came with a quartered lemon (which I thought was odd) but after a few bites I decided to drizzle some on top of the potatoes (assuming that it might serve a specific purpose) and boy was I right about that! I genuinely don’t understand how a few drops of lemon can transform a dish so much but honestly if you order this food, just use the lemon! You won’t regret it. After completion of dinner we were offered free of charge a traditional Lebanese tea which unfortunately did not have the time to be taste but that was not a problem as we were already decided that we would be visiting this place again. Overall lovely staff, great food with generous portions and a relatively reasonable bill that would work out about £20-25 per person including drinks. Extra bonus is the Valentine’s Park across the street. A huge park with a central lake for an evening stroll, that also includes a large playground area if you are visiting the area with children. So yes, that was our culinary experience at the Al Khayma. Friendly service, great food, clean establishment and reasonable prices. Really nothing more to ask. Highly recommended!

Authentic Lebanese food plus i loved the atmosphere.

Had very bad experience, we had birthday event and first they change the venue at last minute and ,they charge per head and serve the food in less quantity, I never ever recommend some one to have event there .

People saying the food is authentic lebanese seriously have no clue on what real lebanese food tastes like. This restaurant looks amazing and is comfortable, service I found polite but the food is nothing comparable to lebanese. Meat has no flavour, no zing, no parsley, sumac, garlic....staple marinades. To top it all off...its really expensive!!!! I don't mind paying for good food but this place is all looks and no substance. Maybe if you like shisha and mocktails this place is good but not for the food.

Lebanese thuggery inside this place i wouldn't trust them if it was the last place on earth. The restaurant is filthy inside like big dirty rats have sabotaged the place. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS.

Omg SO delicious. We had the lentil soup, Shish taouk with rice/salad and veg moussaka. Followed it with Lebanese tea, kunafa and baklawa. Everything was incredible. Not sure if we were just hungry or if it was 10000/10 but honestly some of the best Lebanese food I’ve had. Incredible find and prices are very reasonable too.

If you are in Ilford or even if you are not, check this place out. Won't lie little intimidating walking in at first, but once you see all the families eating together, sharing and interacting with each other really sets you at ease. Most the pictures are of the upstairs seating area, but don't be put off by downstairs. Made to feel welcome and looked after. Real family vibes. Was happy when I relised they don't serve alcohol, was able to focus solely on the food and was not disappointed!! There Hummos with shawarma was fresh and packed with flavour. Everything had that charcoal grilled taste to it and the bread was warm fresh and plenty of it (didn't even order any!!) All in all this is amazing. We will be back.

Music was too loud. Felt like being in a club. The shisha was not great at all. Not what we ordered. Despite mentioning this to the waiter they insisted it was the flavour we ordered when it clearly was not. Lying to customers in the face. I would not go back again

Really bad decor in the shisha lounge. The place was very dirty, dusty sofas, tables and chairs dirty. Nothing about it looked presentable. We had food, which was OK, nothing great.

Was empty when we went. The food was tasty, good customer service and mocktails were so amazingly delicious. We ordered a grilled Haloumi starter, chicken & lamb platter and the sea food platter. This was enough for 4 hungry people. However we stayed for shisha also and the service we received was pretty poor. There were only 2 groups, ourselves and a couple of females, the staff weren't attentive to us at all and spent most of the time trying to impress the women.

I don't recommend this place as the food is priced too high for the quality that is provided. Interior decor is horrible and takey and only one staff members was super nice and helpful. She was a black African woman who was acting manger or front of house. Her service was 100%

Food was average...nothing more. Waiters seemed like they had better things to do than serve customers. Everything took ages, including water.

We had a big family celebration dinner. Food fresh, excellent taste and on time. Saad is brilliant with accomodating everything from food to people's different requirements. As is the manageress. They go the extra mile for you. Great atmosphere. We all felt very well looked after.

Me and my family went to alkayma few days ago before 5p.m and the one who was there in the restaurant smiled and said we open 5 But no problem he let us go inside the restaurant then he took the order and he did serve us even the mocktails he made it for us he made us feel we are special and many staff in the restaurant isn’t just one Definitely I will come back

Average food. Average service. 7 people on the table and they give us 4 glasses, three people's worth of cutlery, hardly any serving spoons with the dishes. Horrible decor inside. Who on earth gives this place 5 stars?

Only had dessert but which was ok

Good food and excellent service. They gave us a wrong starter but immediately corrected it, asked us to keep the one they gave by mistake. Then gave us complementary tea and baklava and topped it up by giving us a discount. Everyone makes mistake, how you manage it sets you apart from others. Thank you for the wondering service and making us feel special.

We visited AlKhayma today in the evening, and had a great time! We ordered a selection of starters, main meals and dessert. The food was delicious, with authentic Lebanese flavours. All staff were very friendly, professional and attentive- especially Saad, who went above and beyond. They even offered us baklawa and tea on the house! We would highly recommend this restaurant, and we will definitely come back again!

I walked in to order some food (takeaway). The service was mediocre at best, 0 interaction, I was just asked what I wanted (luckily I knew beforehand) I ordered a falafel wrap that was just very bland, the fries that came with it were soft and oily, I ate a handful and the rest ended up in the bin. Honestly I've had better food from food stands (and cheaper!). I was expecting more from a restaurant that has 4.3 stars on Google Maps 🤷🏼‍♂️

I went out with my wife yesterday for valentines day and ordered the chicken shawarma and mix shawarma but it tasted awful and had to wait at least 1 hour for the food to arrive when it was not even busy. As for the good side the small boy had took good care of me and my wife and constantly worked hard. Overall good service but very low quality food

Food was alright but bit expensive

Group of 8 visited on Saturday evening for my sister in laws birthday. The staff were accommodating and attentive especially our waitress Hadiyah on the 1st floor. The food was very average, apart from the falafel which was delicious. Unfortunately, no matter how good the falafel was a 3hr wait is unacceptable and they weren’t particularly busy either. All in all, we had a good get together, the food was average and staff were friendly, but service was unbelievably slow.

Got a takeaway from them and I’m very disappointed that I got raw chicken. I really don’t know how they even sent this out as we opened the lid we saw pink chicken.

Food and ambiance are both passable but wouldn’t visit again sadly as it wasn’t upto our expectation and lacked that charm it had when we visited in the past. We ordered mix platter and an extra dish - lamb had a distinct taste of a specific spice to it which sort of killed its authentic taste and chicken was just regular - the bread was fresh and loved the humous. I have had Labenese food before at other places and would now incidentally prefer those over this. Interior, although glittery however appears to be run down and lacked that aura visible via the pics shared online - overall we just didn’t enjoy the vibe.

Would give 0 stars if I could. I walked in to buy a shawarma for takeaway, the worker looked at me as if I'm an alien. He said 'what do you want'? To which I replied 'I would like a shawarma for takeaway please'. He went to the front till near the entrance without calling me (he was cleaning too so I thought maybe he's putting his equipment away). He then proceeded to loudly shouting to get my attention. I walked to the till which is hidden behind the hall at the entrance, and ordered. Thereafter, he did not tell me where to wait or if I could sit, I was left near the entrance behind the hall. I just wondered around a little while on my phone (my 1st time at this restaurant and covid signs everywhere so not sure if i could even enter or sit at the tables). Then the manager came down and looked at me very suspiciously and asked 'everything ok?', to which I responded, 'yes I've ordered'. He not so politely then said 'take a seat'. Then my food was ready and when he gave me the bag no eye contact was made no smile, I said 'thank you have a great evening', and got no response. The shawarma wasn't great either, I'd give it 3/10 due to it being vertically filled on one half while the other half was empty so I folded it in on itself vertically. Also, the entire time it felt like I was not wanted there and even my presence was not acknowledged except by the guy that had no choice but to attend to my order, which he done very rudely, as well as the manager who only came to me as he was very likely suspicious for whatever reason (maybe me just standing around walking up and down a little while on my phone, as not told if I could sit or if I could come back inside after ordering). My first experience here and I'll never be going to al khayma again. The workers need to be replaced or taught how to respect and acknowledge customers, and the manager needs to understand that looking at people as if they're thieves or a risk is disrespectful and uncalled for. I'm a medical student, last thing I want on a weekend evening is to be treated like that at a restaurant after all the stresses I already have.

Big flies 🪰 all over the place. And cold, probably heating system is not adequate. Food below average, and; as usual with such restaurants, drinks and juices are way to expensive for no reason. Sorry, I couldn't mention anything good about this restaurant. 2 🌟 only because the waiters are good👍

This restaurant was a mixed bag. Very slow service. Bizarrely telling me a meal I'd ordered wasn't available in that form despite it clearly being so on their menu. Getting a shisha after dinner took forever and needed the intervention of a local regular to get it done. Our drinks didn't arrive and when I paid the bill I was given no sight of the receipt before or after paying to confirm if it was correct. Nevertheless, the food was excellent, the shisha long lasting, the atmosphere good, the place was clean. And the regular who helped us out was such lovely company that the evening overall was great fun. I guess Lebanese staff don't exactly do 'fast food' but they could do with putting a little more effort into looking after casual customers. I would really liked to have given a higher rating. The food deserved it.
