Akbar's Kitchen in South Somerset

Having a short break near Shepton Mallet I found this place on Google to satisfy my Friday night curry fix. Not an easy thing to do given that we had the dog with us. It's an unusual place, which is a bit of an understatement. The kitchen and the bar being two separate business in a shared pub. A pub that seemingly dates back to the middle ages, along with everything else in Bruton. It's a fascinating town. The menu, although claiming Persian cuisine caters for everyone. You order and pay for your drinks in the pub and your food at the kitchen door. Friendly, obliging staff are more than happy to help with the menu. The wife and I opting for the Persian curry which we enjoyed but obviously somewhat different to our usual. There are a couple of other curry options which will have to wait for another day. No 'Indian' starters, poppadoms etc but given the size of the meal you don't need them. The rice and flatbread were very good, and I could have done without the salad, but when in Rome. Prices are very good considering and it's well worth looking up for something a bit different. It might not suit everyone but I would be more than happy to go back. Parking on the street I guess could be problematic at times.

Great Persian food and a good range of standard pub food too. Seating available in the back of the Sun Inn pub if you want to eat in.

We came in for a very late lunch and were served promptly. The persian starter which we shared, and the two main persian courses were delicious and generous.

Persian food is excellent and the chef was really lovely, would definitely recommend.

Had a really nice roast here for the price and a good Persian curry. Pretty straightforward curry but well cooked and nicely flavoured. The roast was much better than expected - roasties were excellent and the veg element was very decent. The staff here are all great and though it’s quite simple looking from outside, its a nice boozer. The garden is good and must be even nicer when it’s hot. Lots of amazing food pubs in this region but the sun definitely has a niche.

One of the best lamb curries I've ever had. Also, the salad was well presented and substantial.

Was my fave place until I phoned up and he ended the phone on me which was really rude. so I couldn’t tell him I wanted to cancel my order as I couldn’t collect. I understand it may be busy but that’s no way to treat customers by ending the phone call on them and I can’t ring back as he wont answer. 7.50 for delivery yet he said over the phone he won’t deliver the item I wanted even tho it was the minimum delivery amount. Just seems like he couldn’t be bothered tbh as he was busy with other things. Bit shocking really as they offer delivery but don’t actually deliver only when they feel like it.
