Excellent food probably one of the best Indian meals I have had. Some dishes not often seen. Service was excellent also.

Great food and excellent service. I don't know much about curry etc but the options were excellent, exciting flavours that were accurately described by the menu. Rapid service that was so good I went there twice during my stay.

Total shambles. They play the game of seeing a load of people come in, get your order in ASAP, get your drinks in, then make you wait for an hour for your starters but keep topping up your drinks. Don't care about the regulars giving it rave reviews, the food is average, the service is poor and slow, and there are better places to eat at. Good luck when it's busy because you'll just get played or lost

I love Indian cuisine and this place was outstanding, we had poppadoms, the chutney tray, onion bhadji, prawn puri, chicken tikka Bhuna and king prawn karai, the staff were efficient and friendly, could not fault any of the food or staff, although it does not lose them a point at all because it was all fantastic it was very warm in there. Would suggest this to anyone who likes Indian food.

Excellent food and service. As a large group of 11 pensioners, including a wheelchair user we were very well looked after with everyone served promptly and with courtesy. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we would definitely recommend.

We have just tried our first North Indian in this restaurant (takeaway). Took advantage of the 10% discount, quite frankly, couldn't eat it, it tasted more like beef casserole with uncooked garlic, no keema in the keema nan breads neither, we even went to collect it. Do not waste your money.

Arrived at 8.15 for pre booked table. Wrong drinks brought out to start with. Got starter after about 45 mins. Ordered another two drinks and one was not brought over at all. It got to 9.45 still no meal asked where it was and they came back saying another 5 mins. Aware that restaurants have to kick people out at 10 we asked what was going to happen with our meals. He replied eat what can in the ten minutes and we will box up the rest! We had ordered at 8.30 so plenty of time to get us a curry well before 10pm! We then said forget it and box it to takeaway. They then brought the bill over and had charged us for the extra drink which never arrived, asked for that to be removed. Then my friend requested to have the takeaway discount added since we were effectively forced into a takeaway! They did oblige but surely they should be doing this as a courtesy when this arises anyway! Also staff not wearing masks properly at all. The place was rammed, no social distancing in place at all. Basically came over as greedy people trying to squeeze people in unsafely for their own gains! Won’t be returning.

Average food but my friend was served the wrong order, after asking for the original order he was served a completely dish again and still expected to pay for it. Not mentioning waiting 40 mins for poppadoms and 1hr for tap water.

Totally agree with the previous review that after asking you to sanitise your hands it was all downhill with any Covid measures. There were people sat in the area where you walk in with no masks on, staff only wearing masks only over their mouths and not noses, majority of customers not wearing masks when not seated (especially when walking to and from the toilets where the space is quite narrow between tables) and when this was raised staff just shrugged their shoulders, menus being reused between tables (disposable or online menus would be much better) approx 100 people (on a Friday night) seemed way too busy to feel safe, no spare or spaced out tables. This is a real shame as the food was (and always is) lovely but I will not be returning unless further safety measures are implemented.

Visited on 9th October hand sanitizers available when you walked in went downhill from then on, staff not wearing masks correctly, touching their noses and then the customers glass! Couldn’t believe what I was seeing , menus left on table which I thought was odd considering every other restaurant I’ve been in since covid you’ve been given a paper one which is then disposed of , not much social distancing either and seemed way too many people in there as well . Food was nice even though the service seemed rushed and they was trying to clear up when we was still eating , taking table cloth off when was still sitting down .

We visited here for the first time the other month, great service by the staff, very friendly and on hand straight away with all our needs. The food was amazing too. Great atmosphere in there and quick service. No over priced either, I will most definetley be heading back.

We went for a meal and it was lovely as always (Chicken Roshni and Tarka Daal). The environment is safe with appropriate distance between customers. Look forward to the next visit 😀

All the reviews regarding the staff are completely true. Was rushed to order before being seated. Starter ordered at 20.30, arrived at 22.00 - no apology. Don't rush us to order and then leave us waiting, for an hour and half.The food is better in many other curry houses in Coventry and the staff probably won't have an attitude problem.

First time here. I thought it was really nice. Nice friendly service and the portion was quite generous If you like hear get the chefs special with the bullet chillies in it I can’t remember what it’s called but it begins with R. All around nice visit will definitely be returning:)

Waited 40minutes before leaving as once we were seated not a single member of staff came to take our order, I got up twice to ask for some service was completely ignored air conditioning was leaking above us we highlighted this with the staff but it was ignored after complaining to the manager behind the counter for waiting 40minutes he gave no reason and just ignored us no apology given no reason given would never come back here staff had very poor attitude and service was terrible

I dine here often and have never been disappointed, food is 5* I have tried most dishes and always perfection and service excellent friendly staff. I am missing my visit due to the unfortunate circumstances at present and looking forward to go once back to normality.

We went for my daughter's birthday on Friday night there was 8 of us, and the service was brilliant and as always the food was delicious and plenty of it. The staff are very welcoming and friendly we wouldn't go anywhere else.

Very disappointed with the service. Sat there for two hours waiting for the food. The popadoms were stale. 16 of us went and they served up the food for 8 people while the other 8 had to wait another half hour. Got all the drinks wrong. When they did bring the food the first 8 had hot plates to keep their food warm. The second 8 didn’t get hot plates. It was so loud in there you couldn’t talk to the person next to you. No air con on which made it unbearably hot. Overall not a fun experience.

Booked a table for 7:30 as we all needed to be elsewhere later in the evening, took 15 min before even asked for drinks,waited another 15 then came round with food order, (hadn't even had our drinks served) clock ticks on to 8pm then waiter comes round with popadoms which we didn't order saying these were free as meal going to be late!!!! A 7:30 booking I recieved food at 9:10,cood was full of oil and lamb didn't taste of lamb,all in all terrible night as I missed prior engagement. Note to akbars don't keep taking bookings when u cannot cope when full

Came to celebrate my brothers 50th a party of 12. Place was busy but no excuse for atrocious service and tasteless cold food. Dishes missed and then cold when they turned up. Staff not bothered and totally disinterested. No offer of recompense will not be going back ever. Only gave 1 star because I had to. Don't bother wasting your money.

I went with a prospective client, booked a table for 8pm, had to argue with staff to get a table, they wanted to give my table to people who arrived after me. Ordered meal and left waiting for starter for 1hr, would still be waiting if I had not again argued with staff. Service totally unacceptable, and staff rude.

I was looking at my menu and at the table and chatting with my family and within 7 minutes of this time I was told by one of the waiters to hurry up and choose my food, eat and get out as there were people waiting for a table. Appalling! He didnt tell anyone else and I think people were there before me and left after me. And we were a table of 6! I think it was racism. Will never go here again. Waiters kept banging into my chair and table with their trolleys. Learn some bloody manners!!Such rubbish service.

Very nice food, really enjoyable, however they did overbook the restaurant with it being New Years and forget about us at one point, as well as bring out less poppadoms than we asked for but they rectified it soon enough. It’s fair to say it was most likely down to New Years and how busy it was. Other than that, can’t fault it. I’m sure it would be lovely when quieter. Drinks are also extortionate, would avoid buying or only having tap water.Still a great night out!

First time visiting this curry house & it turned out to be a really good choice. I did not know the place & it was chosen by friends who had also not been but had visited restaurants nearby & always wanted to try. The menu is very traditional & choice is easy. Food arrived in good time & ate very nicely. Everyone enjoyed the meal which was priced as you would expect to pay. The staff are great and very attentive. Everyone was very polite. There are plenty of tables & there is a room upstairs and a bar. We had ate early evening but still quite a lot of other dinners & by the time we left it was busy with some large tables which might have been Xmas night outs. Lots of Indian restaurants have set high standards nowadays & this place is in the mix. So some would now say this is average but I really enjoyed my visit so listing as very good.

Our range of curries all had a similar look and were too oily. Breads were good but nothing was ‘stand out’. Service was very professional and attentive.

We have eaten here over 50 times over the years as visit both normally and when watching ice hockey. For some reason, as food and service always excellent have not written a review. So time to correct this. Without fail a warm welcome from everyone, service that would make other restaurants and 5 star hotels envious. Food always excellent, red hot and quick. Add the free parking in the Ramada hotel across the road and a 10 minute walk to the arena and the perfect place to start the evening. As above, also go when Ice Hockey not on and will always be one of our favourite places to eat. Also good value for money.

This was our first time at Akbar’s and won’t be our last! It was fully booked all evening so very busy and popular but the service was polite and slick. The food was really good and it’s now our new favourite a fantastic night thank you

There were some real positives with this restaurant, the waiter service was very quick and the naan bread was amazing. The atmosphere was great as well.

3rd visit in 3 years whilst on a business trip. Efficient & quick service with tremendous food. Had something different each time with great portions. Still stuffed the day after!!! Looking forward to my next visit already

Food is ok but lacks spice and flavour. If you want a"British" curry then fine if you want something more authentic go somewhere else

My husband, son and I were staying in Coventry overnight on a Saturday and just turned up at Akbar's to eat. They were very busy and also very accommodating. We got a drink and waited for around 10 mins before a table was ready.

Went to Akbars with my husband for a date night, resturant has a lovely decor throughout. Liked that we was sat in a nice romantic booth. Friendly staff and food was fantastic. Would highly recommend.

Visited this restaurant with my boyfriend. We were walked to a table . Table was booked online requesting for a candle on table to make it slightly romantic. Asked a waiter about candle and he asked what I needed the candle for that if there is fire in the building it will be my own fault . He then threw table napkin in front of us and walked off. We were sat there for over 10 minutes and nobody came to take order for any drinks. My boyfriend and myself stood up to leave then we got approached so we told him we were going because we've been waiting. He told us that we were on our phones and that's why they never came to us . He then said bye bye to us while we exited the restaurant. Staff were mostly rude and need to be trained on how to interact with customers.

Fab food fast and friendly service at a reasonable price. A short walk out of the main town area opposite the Ramada hotel.

Having eaten there years ago, was looking forward to returning but was disappointed. Service was friendly enough and efficient but food was a let down. All 4 of our group had a different main course but each dish had sauces that looked and tasted the same. Similarly with the veg side dishes, which were mainly sauce of the same appearance and very little veg. Poppadoms were oily and under cooked. Our decaff coffees consisted of a pot of hot water and sachets of instant coffee to open and pour ourselves.

This is the 3rd visit to Akbar’s and again well worth the visit. The ambiance and food are second to none. Staff are so friendly and attentive, but no overly so. The food is wonderful, so tasty and seasoned to perfection. Next visit to Coventry we’ll be back

I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t visited Akbar’s for a while, but when I returned recently for a takeaway, I was welcomed as if I’d been there the day before! As always, the staff were ultra friendly, I was offered a free drink whilst I waited, and it was great to see the restaurant has expanded and looks so good! And, above all, the food was excellent, nothing like your average curry house, it was made with a varied range of quality ingredients and tasted really good. I’m so pleased I went back and will definitely be returning soon!

Nice food and I had friendly waiters however I did find the restaurant a little too dark...I have however ordered the food home which was lovely.

We have been to this restaurant many times over many years. We are never disappointed. The food and staff are the best. Here's to many more visits.

Akbars has a lovely atmosphere and the tables are nicely spread out so you never have to hear anyone else's conversation.

Food was of a good standard but the staff were very interested in myself and my friends. Asking us if we had boyfriends and why some of us didn’t. Then following the conversation with some more un necessary personal questions.

walked in and asked the staff if it was halal to which they said yes but when we asked to see their certificate, they were all very confused. a member of staff then came to us and said they were halal but did not have a certificate. so we decided to leave as we were uncomfortable eating somewhere that was not certified. as we were walking out, one of the staff decided to make a rude comment about how we were "acting up" in Bengali, possibly thinking that we wouldn't understand or hear.

Thank you to all the staff at My Dhabba where we had a fantastic meal for my big birthday. All my colleagues were happy with staff and the food, even the chef come out to say hello to everyone. We were not rushed out like some places you goto. See u soon. Thks jass

The mixed Korai was truly superb, excellent lemon rice, and probably the best Peshwari nan bread I have ever eaten, staff where excellent , great service great food, great ambiance , would I eat here again deffo, worth the visit, honest great food at a great price

We went to Akbars on a recommendation whilst working away. The staff were very surly and the food was nothing to write home about. Between the three of us we were quite disappointed. I had a lamb dish and it was not good at all. The garlic bread was awful.

Never having ventured further than the hotel I was given a recommendation to try the local Indian restaurant, being a stone 's through away it seemed a logical choice and it didn't disappoint, excellent selection of food complimented with prompt service, all in all a good choice.

11 friends for dinner after a rugby match at The Butts Arena - only a 5 minute walk. Handled large group with friendly, efficient service. Food very tasty, served promptly, and excellent prices. Many thanks.

Seen a couple of bad reviews, I don’t know everyone has their bad days I guess. We were a big party for Saturday night. We were greeted well and asked to get a drink at the bar while our table was being prepared. We were shown upstairs and it was so beautiful!! The food was delicious! I don’t think any of us had complaints, good wine list and the service was fantastic, good attention to detail and prompt attention to our needs, very polite and friendly. Very clean place, nice toilets we had a really nice night, Thankyou.

went here for a work leaving party , amazing food not to spicy to over power the taste and had a few beers and forgot my scarf ( and my wife to be wouldn't let me forget it after she noticed a month later as it was hand made matching set for my family ) I had given up hope of finding it and just excepted cold shoulder I was getting , but gave them a call around 1.5 months after I had my.meal and not only had they found the scarf but kept it in immaculate condition, and sent a picture to confirm it was the correct one , they went above and beyond when I was a customer in the shop and that great level of customer service continued after , thankyou so much

As we were out on Saturday and feeling hungry we thought we would pop in to Akbar, being fairly close. We had not booked a table, and wanted to get some food before going back home. The restaurant was very busy but we thought we would check if they had a table. Within 2-3 minutes we had a table, and got served drinks/food very promptly. The food was delicious and would definitely recommend.

An overhyped restaurant I have always wanted to visit, It was OK, nothing great. Disappointed that it was a Bangladeshi restaurant and not Indian as described everywhere. Kebabs were good, the Curries were very spicy with huge portions. The stuffed veg paratha was the best.

Visited here for dinner with my wife. It is a busy place with plenty of Asian folk eating (always a good sign). The service was quick and efficient. Decor modern understated. The food pretty damm good.

Booked on line the day before. We were greeted with a polite group of staff who seated us at our table and were very attentive but not over pressing. We had Poppadum's a starter and a main with the usual rice and breads. It was served in a timely manner, was hot and very good. The mains that we ordered were delicious. The portions are very generous and I must admit we had to ask for at least half our meals to be put into a bag so that we could take them away. No problem, so we had another meal out of them at home. A tip is not to over order.

Booked at table for Saturday 2nd February at 8.30pm using there online booking service. After arriving 5 minutes early, we were greeted with total mayhem! The place was packed with people standing around not knowing where they were going or what was happening. After 10 minutes we finally managed to catch someones attention and explained we had booked at table to which he chuntered something to us ....still not sure what he said.... and walked away, 5 minutes later caught another member of staff's attention, to which we were told we would just have to wait. Understand they were busy but it was total mayhem.....needless to say we left and went next door to 'Mint'. Brilliant meal and service and we could hear ourselves think. I totally get that Saturday is busy and we've had to wait before but this time the staff were ignorant and rude. No one visibly greeting customers and when you try to catch someones eye they ignored you.

I had my evening meal here on a Saturday night. The restaurant was full. It is very welcoming and has a lovely ambience. The prices are reasonable. The service is friendly and first class. The food was absolutely delicious . I had a lamb jalfrezi. I can't wait to go back and try more courses. It is among the best Indian cuisine experiences that I have had.

My friend called the restaurant to know if they offer vegan options and after being asking what does she mean and if she wants chicken, they asked if there are "men" with her they could speak to instead!! My friend though she missunderstood but the man on the phone repatead THREE times if he could talk to a man instead!! Not supporting places like that!! So embarrassing!!

I visited Akbar’s one evening with a group of friends. Whilst the service was adequate, I found the food to be particularly sub standard. Being not a huge lover of curry etc I decided to try the sirloin steak but what I was presented with was just a mess (see photo).

Visited this restaurant after celebrating our son’s graduation. With a wide choice of dishes and good size portions, we all had delicious meals. Particularly impressed by the level of service, spacious dining areas and the warm welcome. Would recommend a visit.

We visited this restaurant only after being thrown out of supposedly the best Indian restaurant in Coventry! Reason? For making the mistake of asking for a Chicken Dansak ! It wasn't on their menu apparently? I was shouted at for this and told to make it myself!! which defeats the object for going out in the first place? I can only think the owner is a tiny bit unhinged.

Stay in Coventry a couple of times throughout the year and always visit this restaurant. The service is great and the food delicious. The chef specialities are a nice touch. Highly recommend.

This establishment can pride itself on freshness and flavor. The dishes and sides are good to share and for an excellent evening out with friends or business dinner.

Whenever we visit Coventry we always eat here as often as possible. The food and service are fantastic and it’s like coming home in every sense. Can’t wait to come again :)

We have been here many times and have really enjoyed it. The food is delicious - we recommend the chicken jeera and chicken madras. The last time that we went the keema naan did not have as much meat in as normal, but hope this was just a blip as we really like it here! The service is usually very good and the waiters are friendly. We will be back!

8 people visited last week and the service and food was as expected. Note if you don't like your food spicy go for a slightly milder dish than you would normally, as they are always very heavy handed with spice. Price was a little expensive, as visited miller and carter later that week and was actually cheaper.

As a regular, visited on a Friday night. As expected, food was great tasty, spicy and extremely enjoyable. Staff welcoming and happy to see a female waitress, Shannon makes a good addition to the team. Many new staff faces but the same attentive level of service. Give it a try you wont be dissapointed

My daughter took us to Akbars her favourite curry restaurant in Coventry.

Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived, so we were seated in the bar and got drinks really quickly. Table came free within 10 minutes. Really impressed with the decor, which manages to walk the fine line between retro Indian cool and modern. Service was excellent - attentive but not overbearing. The food is also amazing - and really (really) good value. Will definitely be back!

I come here regularly with a few friends and we are always welcomed in by the lovely staff and are always seated straight away.

We hadn't booked but called in around 5:45m on a Saturday and were seated straight away. Other people already in and eating and quite busy. As people left reserved signs were going on the tables so I would recommend booking to make sure of a seat. Had poppadoms and chutney then chicken rogon josh and chicken jalfrazie, 1 pilau rice, 1 bombay aloo and 2 naan. The food was very tasty and the portions were generous. Service was slick and the 'older' guy who took our order was very good. Enjoyed a pint of draft Cobra with the meal. Would recommend as a good restaurant.

Booked in advance as they get really busy on Friday nights. Great atmosphere inside. We had a starter, mains with extra chips and papadums plus three rounds of drinks for £25 a head. Very tasty food and good value. Very pleasant service. Naz runs a great place! We were five minutes early and were taken straight through to our table. All courses came promptly and were delicious. The best Indian Restaurant in Coventry and always reliable.

Still one of the best Indian restaurants in town and the food is always spot on. Service is generally good and I suggest asking for one of the sunken booths if you want a little privacy

Friends and I were working in the area for the past three months and stumbled across Akbars. We enjoyed it so much the first time that we came back 4 more times and even had it as the venue of our course completion party. The menu is varied and there’s something for everyone. The prices are very reasonable in comparison to curry houses of the same quality closer to home. Alcohol, sides, mains and rice plus poppadoms for £26 per person including tip. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Fui un viernes por la noche con mi otra mitad, reservamos una mesa 5 días de antelación! Una vez que llegamos nos dijeron que esperar en la zona de descanso de 15 minutos más tarde caminamos a nuestra mesa, el servicio era un poco lento, ya que tenía que mirar alrededor y grita por un camarero! ! ! Tuve un pollo tikka tawa, keema nan y pilau arroz. . . . El curry no sabor agradable, sabía de sosa y correoso! Se quejaron al camarero y él farfulló algo bajo su aliento y salías! De ahí que dijo que este lugar es una broma! Pagué mi cuenta y nunca miramos atrás en el lugar! ! !
