Totally overpriced!! £75+ for sushi and main course for two people (no alcohol)… This was our second trip here and it’s really declined, so much so, we will not be returning. The place is really grubby - I dread to think what the kitchen is like if the customer facing area is in that state. It’s definitely not worth the premium price. The salmon was tough and tasted like it was from Costco, the egg fried rice was soggy - overall the meal was disappointing. The only positive was the service. The young waitresses and waiters were very polite and attentive.

Delicious Asian cuisine. Tasty dishes, reasonably priced. A nice option for going out on a date and beyond

My spicy beef ramen was truly amazing, but my daughter's chicken udon had some horrible gristly bits in it.

The food definitely over price. Some of the food has overcooked outside but still cold inside. The food has no consistency which we ordered the soft shell cab roll with some of it has roe some of doesn’t. we weren’t satisfied so we just paid for the foods we had and left. No body asked us how was the foods or experience at all.

Best Japanese restaurant in Northampton. The young sushi chef (I think his name was (Krystian) was really friendly and made excellent rolls and maki sushi. I will come back.

The atmosphere is great in the restaurant But there’s been a few issues tonight First the tea was very weak didn’t haven’t much green tea to taste but they swapped it for a new one, it was better but still quite weak The miso soup isn’t great we’ve had multiple returns on it and its still been lukewarm the bowl itself is hot but the soup isn’t, most likely has been microwaved The sushi is not bad no complaints

Great food from an independent local chain at decent prices. A bit of a hidden gem - doesn't look like it's anything special from the outside but it's a lovely restaurant. I had beef yaki udon and some salmon sushi rolls, both were delicious.

Order spicy chicken ramen and jjigae kimchi. Atmosphere was great, service was quick, staff polite and helpful. Food tastes amazing with big portions. Definitely recommend you try it.

First time going to Akasaka after a recommendation and it did not disappoint. Went straight after a comedy show and it was a great end to the evening. Food was incredible and did not disappoint so overall I would for sure be back.

Food for delivery is terrible,small portions and arriving cold,my last order came without rice.Completely different story when you eat at the restaurant.Its delicious and there is nice atmosphere.

First time going to a Japanese restaurant and it was amazing! The food I had were: - Dumplings (first time having them and they were very nice). -Fried squid (surprisingly chewy but tasty). -Chicken Ramen : The soup was like chicken soup mixed with a hige amalgamation of herbs and spices. The noodles were very fine, tender and addicting to eat. The chicken itself was full of flavour and cooked very well. For someone who is not that much of a fan of big, steamed veg - this dish made me want to eat all my onions and sweet peppers. -I had a little sake, and it honestly tastes like if someone made Lambrini stronger and with a hint of wheat (which someone makes sense since it is a "rice alcoholic beverage". On top of that : -Beautiful paintings -a beautiful restaurant with japanses ornaments -very good staff -beautiful Japanese-style cutlery and plates... ... All add up to one MAGNIFICENT restaurant for either yourself, or a little group to go to.

Food is fairly affordable and lots of options available for all dietary needs.

Extortion. Completely overpriced for awful quality food. Would not go here again. Poor. For two people, it cost us £80. The quality of the food like the sushi and salmon was so bad! How are you charging that much for less than OK food? Absolutely ridiculous. Not recommended.

Great food. Great sushi and sashimi options. Nonetheless, they have a newly expanded Korean food option, not to mention they play loads of K-pop. Very spicy for traditionalist, and they’re able to make mild flavors as well for the timid amongst us. Even though most clients sit there on their phones, people are friendly and open, and even the staff are not distracted on their phones, like most places, making us feel even more welcome. They used to have great bento boxes, But sadly no more.

Lovely atmosphere and quick service! Really enjoyed the food. Veggie and vegan options are clearly labelled to save you from guessing!

A little bit pricey, but the portions are generous and especially the bulgogi alone is worth coming in for. Can seat large groups of 8 people and the food is served fairly quickly. I wouldn't use the hand dryer in the women's bathroom though.

The miso soup and the gren tea were very weak. The sushi was adequate. It's a shame as the restaurant has a good atmosphere.

Food was absolutely lovely, service was good and the girls that served us were very friendly, atmosphere was pleasant but wasn't very busy but we did go in there at 4pm so it was never going to be busy. We came up from Essex for the day and very glad we found Akasaka and if we're in the area again then we would definitely eat here again. Excellent value for money too and the portions are of a generous size too.

It supposed to be a mixed between Japanese and Korean food, none of them good. I ordered yakisoba...they gave me spaghetti noodles. Lemonade is not real lemonade....is sprite or whatever... My man had some chicken spicy...it was greasy. Overall I wouldn't recommend unless they make some changes.

Food is rather boring having in mind its an Asian style restaurant. Our server with blonde hair tonight was beyond any service. She just did what she felt was right, totally ignored any of us. And I really don't appreciate when you come home from a restaurant smelling of food. I literally put all my clothes to wash.

We had a very nice dinner. Everything was served hot and delicious and was made with fresh ingredients. Service also very nice.

Lovely first visit, would return.

This is our second visit and had great food both times. We made a booking as it was close to Christmas and they called us on the day to check we were still coming. Fair enough. The food was quick and all fresh and tasty. The sushi was nice but nothing out of the ordinary. It was traditional rather than fusion or modern. But it was good. All the mains were yummy although I had the pork katsu curry and the meat was a little tough but after some curry sauce and steaming rice it was still very nice. Great miso soup. The prawn tempura was crispy and succulent. We spent £180 for 6 people although none of us drunk alcohol.

Great place and the food was excellent. The service was also great, all in one fantastic evening.

Don’t get me wrong, the food is great but I’ve noticed the Caucasian waitresses are always gossiping and not doing any work. They didn’t provide any help or give service when I was trying to get their attention. Not happy about that. Apart from that wonderful food and atmosphere, but would not come again. Fix your staff.

My partner and I went our for dinner, I choose this beautiful hidden restaurant in the center of Northampton and we were really impressed by the variety of dishes on the menu, so it was difficult to decide. He had noodles with seafood and I had a Corean soup and both of them were exceptional, at decent price, tho. Congratulations to Abdul, the chef, he turns everything into a culinary masterpiece :)

Staff were professional and courteous. Good was at a decent price point and delicious with a large amount. Will be going back definitely. A little taste of Asia

The food was good especially the agedashi tofu, everything I ordered agreed with me and it was my first time trying anything Korean or Japanese. The staff were nice and the food did not take time to be served at all, I was impressed. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, it gives a cosy vibe. Based on my experience today I'd say, It's a good place to eat if you are looking to try something new.

I rarely give reviews but they totally deserve it!! Food 10/10. Service and environment was great. Definitely in my top 5 in Northampton. The ramen WAS OUT OF THE WORLD. FULL FLAVOR!!!

Welcomed by Jasmine on our arrival and promptly seated, despite the fact we were early! Jasmine and Kelly took very good care of us throughout, which was great because we had no idea what we were doing! Jasmine was able to advise on dishes and beverages which was really helpful. Food and drinks arrived promptly, and the food was perfectly cooked, looked fabulous and tasted delicious. Prices were reasonable and the menu has a good selection to suit most people. Highly recommended! 😎

Lovely place for food. We had the chicken yakisoba and the beef bibimbap and highly recommend both. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious. What more can you ask for?☺

Really delicious food, you will not regret chosing this restaurant. Lovely prawn tempura sushi starter, sizzling mains of Korean marinated Beef Bulgogi, Spicy Chicken and Osam Bulgogi. Really friendly service. Highly recommend. We will certainly be back!

After living in Japan for 23 years, I have an understanding of Japanese cuisine. I had katu curry (when you type on a Japanese keyboard it is katu not katsu) the katu was overcooked and the rice was such a small portion as to seem like a practical joke. Real sushi from a place like sushiro or kappazushi does not have sesame on the outside. Makrel is not a normal topping. Asahi beer is not worth 5 pounds. It's an expensive, inauthentic experience which costs a fortune. The staff are nice though.

Really poor experience at a usually great restaurant! Bit into a sushi roll only to find a wire in the middle. The staff couldn't say what it was or how it got there. We asked for a replacement platter that was safe to eat and for it to be removed from the bill. Once the bill comes, staff suddenly contest this and refuse to refund the item. After much back and forth with staff, including being asked to not leave until a manager could be reached on the phone, I left the restaurant in tears of frustration after paying in full. It was a special meal that was completely ruined and could have been easily rectified with better communication and a bit of care. I'd usually expect the manager to immediately come to the table after something like this and alleviate concerns / apologise - not the case. There was no concern whatsoever that a foreign choking hazard was found in the food. Couldn't speak to a manager and no response to emails for a month now. Hate to be negative but reluctantly sharing my experience as dread to think what could have happened and staff need more support to handle matters like this in the future. Such a shame as one of our favourite restaurants and usually brilliant food. Hope we finally get a response and explanation.

The yakitori was pink in the middle. Chicken shouldn't be pink. Also the fish i got as a main wasn't de-boned and it was small bones the type the cheff is meant to remove. Do not cone here.

Akasaka is a Japanese restaurant in Northampton, I don’t normally eat Japanese food, now I definitely do, chop sticks is the way to go. The restaurant is really nicely decorated with a lovely ambiance, one tip don’t take the table by the door as it does get draftly. The service is excellent, attentive and helpful, the food is cooked with fresh ingredients, it’s tasty and the portion size is generous, my recommendation is try using the chop sticks for the full experience, I definitely recommend and I will return

First time visiting Akasaka last night in Northampton, we'd never heard of it before but what a great find. Food was fantastic, staff were very helpful. All round great night

Bimbibap was great but avoid the seafood, not worth the price

We have been to Akasaka multiple times and the food is always very good no matter what you order. They are able to customise the dish to your taste / needs. The staff are very friendly and provide great service.

Ordered chicken teriyaki and it was terrible, chicken tasted like old plastic. Chicken katsu was not bad but the salad was poor. My fried squid tasted like balls of oil and mush. Not coming again

As this restaurant has been established in Northampton since 2017 and we have never been, we decided to give it a try. We booked a table for 9pm on a Saturday night and were greeted by a happy and helpful member of staff. They showed us to our table which was right near the front door, which felt like it was in the waiting area so we declined that and asked to sit further inside which was no problem. When seated the waitress said "we shut at 10", so we knew then we had an hour. Thanks. The decor is a bit bland but spotless. The large tiled floor makes it feel cold and was really slippery to walk on. There were 3 other tables in use and seemed quite empty. The service was a little quick as they wanted us out within the hour and whilst we were eating they were clearing up around us which made us feel uncomfortable. I ordered the beef bulgogi with boiled rice and my wife had the chicken teriyaki with boiled rice. Both meals arrived quite quickly, tasted fresh and were nice. The portions were not too large and just right for us. We decided against staying for any desserts. The total price came to £43.90 including a glass of wine each, which I think is quite reasonable. Overall the experience was good and we will probably visit again.

Went with my friends for lunch and the food was amazing staff were very sweet and charming. Also I had dropped my gold bracelet which was given by my mom , it was until the end of the day when I had called them to ask for it and they had safely kept it. The girl who handed it to me was very polite on the phone as well and I am very thankful to the restaurant for their service . I will surely be visiting again ❤️

Top Japanese / Korean food. Akasaka at their very best for food. Only slight downside was service was pretty slow, and restaurant wasn't super busy. But overall its worth the wait!

Pleasantly surprised by this Japanese Korean fusion. The gyosa we're particularly good and the selection of sashimi was the best in Northampton

Pre-theatre meal, so it was a bit quiet. Otherwise a really good meal - aubergine & miso sauce starter fabulous, excellent kimchi, I had a bibimbap main with beef - very good. Service good, would go again.

Visited here twice now and I'm always left wanting to come again! Akasaka is on my top list of places to go for very tasty Japanese and Korean food. The hospitality is always very friendly and the food is reasonable priced for the great taste. Looking forward to the next time I can come and dine

The place was good. Good food. Starter was great! Loved the sushi! Main was lovely. I had Korean marinated beef with boiled rice. The food portions were too large for me. Service was ok but not great. We had to ask them for the desert menu and noone came to get our order. We ended up leaving without having any desert. The desert was very limited just ice creams and one type of cheese cake. I expected more.

The roll sushi is okay, the stir-fried chicken is like Hong Kong style, ok, the ramen is really not good, put the fried chicken and side dishes on top of a bowl of doll noodles, it's so oily, I feel uncomfortable after eating it.

Tonight was our first time in Akasaka as Ginza is becoming a very poor experience looks like Ginza now fast food take away “restoran” We were very happy with the food and service in Akasaka, the staff were polite, nice and helpful. We enjoyed the environment and the food was delicious and not very pricey but depends on what you are after. The place is quite busy and seems that it's quite popular Thank you Akasaka we will be returning

It was a rainy Sunday (6th Nov 2022) and I decided to try this Korean Dish for the first time. It is called bibimbap. I choose Prawns with teriyaki sauce and it was tasty. It came super hot in a stone pot. You can choose other bibimbap options like Chicken.

Like others one of the best meals I've had not only recently but ever... definitely value for money, starters, mains, pudding and drinks for a couple for around £60 can't go wrong especially when you taste the food, the only slight criticism was the waiting staff could be more attentive as had to get someone's attention to order and ended up going to bar to pay, appart from that it was perfect.

Very, very substandard. Before I write this I want to point out there were some very good things at Akasaka, but some bad things happened too. We had: Kimchi (excellent) Edamame beans (excellent) Octopus balls (very good) Eel sushi (very good) Mackerel sushi (ok) Scallop sushi (ok) Tuna sushi (very bad) Salmon avocado roll (very bad) Chicken Katsu curry (excellent) Bottle of Sanerre (OK) Fizzy Sake (very bad) I should point out that the service, was for the most part, also very good. The tuna was off, and the sake was sweet and perfumed and not nice at all. We made this known early on. At the end of the meal I went up to the counter to query the items that I was not happy with. The waitress tried to mumble that the sushi is 'like that' and over the course of the conversation told me it comes in every other day, as well as coming in weekly. Similarly the sake, which she said was meant to taste 'like that'. The most galling thing, is that I am the customer, I am paying for these items and if they are substandard I should be able to tell you, and we can negotiate. But I felt like I had to fight to be heard, there was no apology (apart from one nice waitress) and no attempt to placate me, it was all done extremely begrudgingly. The waitress asked if the sake had been drunk, which it had clearly not, I also had to point out that the menu stated the alcohol content to be 14% when it was actually 6%. I have the constitution of an ox, but I defintely felt off later that night, and this was confirmed to both my wife and I the morning after. I would only recommend if you want to play Russian roulette with your stomach. I see there are lots of positive reviews on here, and I am genuinely happy for these customers and Akasaka, but I don't want to take the risk. I will not be coming here again. I prefer Sakura. (After telling the waiter the sake was horrid my wife asked for a gin and tonic but we were told that was not stocked as it is not typically Japanese. There sushi is not typically Japanese either, it was an embarrassment, I am certain it had been frozen and thawed out. Maybe it's a mistake to call it sushi and charge the prices you charge).

Has a good on line booking system, and the menu is available online as well so you can plan what you want in advance other than the drinks menu. Tables are set with chopsticks and cutlery no need to ask, the food is higher quality with options you wouldn't get in a conveyor belt establishment this is however reflected in the price, several of the menu option have spiced or non spiced versions, but not all. Over all a very good experience

Portions aren't the best for the price. Including a side order each, we left hungry. "Spicy" food is disappointing and even the wasabi had no bite. It has a nice atmosphere but in terms of Japanese authenticity, you're better off looking elsewhere.

This place took me by surprise, some of the tastiest Japanese food I've had in my life. I couldn't recommend it more.

No waits to be seated, although it should be noted that it was a weekday evening. Calm ambience, and the food was tasty. Would recommend!

My colleagues and I have been working in the area for a little while and we have had this restaurant recommended so we toddled off to Castilian St to have a taste. I've never tried Japanese food until tonight and I was really impressed with the food here. Amazing flavour and portions that are just right to fill but not over face. Reasonably priced as well as 4 of us had a 3 course meal and drinks for less than £30 per person. Excellent service and food so shouldn't be missed!
