Such a special place for Afternoon Tea! My friend and I were in London for Chelsea Flower Show and The Dorchester was beautifully decorated to celebrate that. The food, the variety of teas, the friendly and attentive and the tinkling of the piano in the background made for a truly memorable afternoon. The room has a lovely ambience, the decor is elegant and beautiful and we felt both special and relaxed. It was a highlight of our holiday.

I went here for a birthday with the family, we have been before but not for sometime. The children loved it, (11 and 13). It is such a lovely experience and the sandwiches, tea and cakes are all sublime, they even gave us a doggy bag which came in handy as we were off to a show that night. A special thank you to Olivia who served us that day made us feel welcome, at ease without diminisheing the sense of occasion.

We had arrived on time but had to wait for 10 minutes until our table is ready, waited for another 10 minutes for someone to give us the menus. I ordered champagne and the lady suggested to order coffee or tea. When we did order the tea/coffee it took a very long time for it to arrive, then no one came over to top up the tea has it was to the side of us and not easy access to. The sandwiches were decent sizes and the taste was not bad, ham, chicken and salmon were the tasty ones. Scones were OK and pastries were good. The waitesses and waiters were all very nice and polite but there were just not enough of them. With this high price range I'd expect much better and efficient service, Overall I'd not recommend it and will never want to be back.

My sister and I visited recently and am really sad to say it was disappointing. We enjoy having afternoon tea and have been to many places. I was excited and looking forward to my booking. However it lacked attentiveness. Nobody checked in with us throughout the 2 and a half hours so after waiting a ridiculous time I had to resort to motioning to the staff to get any service. The scones were lovely but the pastries were not nice. It was without doubt the most expensive tea we attended but was really not worth half the money. I would not recommend it.

Lovely afternoon tea service was excellent I should have taken the server's name to acknowledge him. From approaching the Dorchester and in side constantly greeted with pleasantries. The afternoon tea is in the promenade with exceptionally beautiful display of flowers, scent and furnishing. I had notice a dirty glass once the server was notified it was replaced swiftly with an apology. The actual tea was a serving of unlimited sandwiches personal preference would be nice to have a carnation chicken sandwich rather than just roast chicken. Scones and conserves were lovely but I did not like the texture of the cream. There was no actual cake it was just sweet offerings decorated with fruit, which were nice but they should be at least one piece of sponge cake. At no time did I feel rushed like at other establishments that serve an afternoon tea. Because it was a birthday celebration a candlelit cape was presented which was totally unexpected. To get to the ladies toilets you have to go up a set of stairs and then go down another set of stairs whereas the men's toilet is on one level. Uneaten cakes where packed beautifully to be taken home I would book this venue again. Short bus ride to Knightsbridge if you want to go shopping afterwards.

Excellent service from Anuar! We had a lovely time as two couples celebrating two anniversaries. Pros: Service Sandwiches Scones and Jam Cons: Pastries/Cakes at the end were quite poor and would have brought down our 5 star experience down to a 3 star experience had it not been for the terrific service experience from Anuar. At this price point we were disappointed with the quality of the cakes, it would be better to fill yourself up on Sandwiches and Scones and forget the cakes!

We had good time at fabulous Promenade. It is the first time in London and first time for the traditional English afternoon tea. I did some research before the trip and definitely I made the right choice. The setting is gorgeous. The staff is very friendly to introduce different teas. The food is delicious. The sandwiches look simple and plain but they are all delicious! We tried all kinds of tea, and ordered additional sandwiches when they asked if we want more. It is not cheap but we spent beautiful 2 and half hours there.

I have always loved the idea of afternoon Tea and have visited several of what I call traditional classic hotels who offer such things like the savoy ,claridges and the ritz all of which put this experience to shame . I can’t remember our servers name but he was fantastic and a real highlight of our visit. It was a gift for my 50th birthday from my wife so we dressed up accordingly after reading the dress code ….well I don’t think there is a dress code with most people in hoodies and trainers (which I wear regularly). If you’re going to stipulate a dress code then please enforce it ! I can’t get my head around why you insist on charging the same price with or without champagne?why should I have to pay for alcohol which I do not drink ! Presentation of the sandwich’s were awful and just chucked on a plate and tasted like fridge ?why not presented on a tear ?absolutely no wow factor here .Cakes were tasty but looked dull and beige and the scones were dry . The server did notice it was my birthday 🥳 and gave me a small cake with a candle . All in all I would not return and a total bill of £230 for 2 was way to high for what we received..

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Before I say any more our server was fantastic I am really sorry but didn't get his name. I have been coming to the Dorchester for 17 years (on and off) and have always said that the Dorchester is the best afternoon tea in London. It is with regret that I would now say that my opinion has changed. It used to be a proper, grand, very British afternoon tea and it is a shame that the hotel has felt it has to 'move with the times' especially for overseas visitors who just love (especially our American cousins) everything British. I don't think it helped that I remember what it used to be like when I initially came for the first time. A lot has changed and not for the better I am afraid. One thing that hasn't changed though are the wonderful staff and the general ambience is still fantastic. You are not made to feel 'second class' as I have been before especially at the Ritz. Everyone is treated the same whether you are very rich, or like my friend and I out for a special occasion - my birthday.. I would like to warn people to be careful if you would just like tap water to accompany your afternoon tea. I asked for tap water initially and was brought a very nice glass of water with ice in it which was a nice touch. I wanted more water and it was probably my own fault I did not realise when the waiter asked would I like a bottle he meant bottled water and not decanted tap water. However what was not my fault was that we had been charged for two bottles of water. So basically even taking into consideration we had made a mistake for the second bottle our glass of tap water was also charged as a bottle and at £9.00 per bottle I should have spoken up, but didn't want to spoil the day by complaining. So all in all a very big let down and feel quite sad having to write this. This is only my opinion and perhaps it is a generation thing but to me this is now not a traditional British afternoon tea it is moving towards a 'fine dining' experience.
