This was the most amazing restaurant! From the first contact I made with them they were really friendly and helpful. We arrived and the staff were really welcoming. The food was amazing and we loved the atmosphere and the honey wine. Seriously, don't think twice. This is the best Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurant, hands down.

Just had a fabulous vegan lunch with my eldest child. Owner was so friendly and helpful. Ethiopian food was completely unknown to us, but not any more. I'm sure my vegan offspring will return very soon given they only live around the corner!!

I’ve spent two months in Europe and the vegan injera platter is easily the most delicious thing I’ve eaten by a mile! Each dish on in the platter is soooo flavourful and massive portion size, I could only just finish it myself (and I eat A LOT). The restaurant is run by a lovely family and the atmosphere in the place is so relaxing and authentic. Come here if you want to eat like some locals!

Our experience at this Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurant surpassed all expectations. Catering to our group of about 50 people, the owner's dedication was evident from the start. The food selection was impressive, with delicious meat, flavorful vegetables, and tantalizing vegan options satisfying every palate. Each dish was bursting with authentic flavors, leaving us craving more and more. The owner's generosity extended beyond the culinary hospitality, offering us bottomless drinks that added an extra layer of hospitality. Their thoughtful gesture of setting up a TV for a football match by buying a tv box at such a short notice was just unmatched! We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an amazing dining experience filled with delicious food, warm hospitality, and genuine generosity. We will definitely be returning.

I don't normally write reviews, but these people are amazing! Please please go and support this amazing business. I broke my fast here a few days ago for Ramadan and I was looked after so well! The auntie who was running things kept piling things on my plate. Beautiful people and a beautiful place - this is definitely high up on my list for Birmingham! Ps Vegan and Veggie options are ACE!

5 stars across the board. The food is amazingly tasty. I had the vegan platter and it was more than enough food. The couple who run the place are super friendly and I ended up speaking to the owner for around 1 hour. I will definitely make an effort to go back if I'm back in Birmingham :) I 100% recommend the place. It's well worth the short walk out of Birmingham city centre.

Having never tried Ethiopian food, we weren't too sure what to expect. Pictures and reviews looked great. The smells, tastes and service was amazing. No menu, followed the hosts recommendation of vegan platter. It was just enough for two. Absolutely fantastic.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first experience of Ethiopian food. Our vegetarian injera was really tasty! More food than we could finish sadly, but we gave it a good go. The dish could probably be shared between 2 people unless you're particularly hungry. I needed something gluten free and they served me a gluten free version of the flatbread. Staff were really friendly and welcoming.

Absolute brilliant food, in a brilliant restaurant, prepared by two lovely ladies. I‘ll definitely come again and the place is really worth visiting. The food is prepared in front of you, it‘s fresh and delicious, the decor is nice and the hospitality is outstanding, I had a lovely conversation with both of them. I got a tea on the house while waiting for my food, plus the dishes are really reasonable priced. We‘ll definitely come again!

My first time of trying Ethiopian food, overall fine. I was shocked to know that there was no menu provided in this restaurant! There were only 2 main dishes, Beef Enjera and Veggie Enjera. I ordered the beef one, the flatbread tasted weird at first but gradually I was getting used to it. The Honey Wine had a good taste, but strong enough to make me a little bit drunk.

My first time visiting and I will be back again! It's a cosy place, hidden off the main streets. The owner and her "right-hand woman" (that's what she referred to her as 😊) were brilliant. So friendly and patiently explained what all the sides were. She kept supplying us with more Injera bread without us asking or any additional charge. I would recommend everyone to get over there and visit.

Stunning food- I was genuinely upset that I was too full to finish it! The restaurant has a great community feel to it, I'm certain that it's a popular spot to sit and absorb the atmosphere. Amazing resteraunt. Staying round the corner for work and so glad I walked past. The owner was really friendly and described what vegetarian options there were. I got a mix of everything to takeaway. Never tried Ethiopian food before and this was possibly some of the tastiest food I have ever had. The sour bread was not something I have had before either, and was really good. I was also given free coffee while I waited, which was made with in house roasted beans. Will definitely be back again, great atmosphere and value for money. Thanks!

Bring your sunglasses. Afro Veg Flavour is bright and vibrant. On my walk up Howard Street to Hockley Social Club I did a double take. What is this? A cafe, a restaurant? What are the origins of the colourful symbols painted on either side of the entrance? I took a look at the doorway, noticing a characteristic large gap between the bottom of the door and the street. As I walked inside I was greeted by a chatty, smily member of staff. She offered more details about the restaurant. It’s only 1 month old, offering traditional Ethiopian dishes, but only with Vegan ingredients. She even offered a sample of a traditional dish, which I kindly accepted. What a beautiful food. What a lovely experience. I would like to say a humble “Thank you for your kindness.”

I'd been out with a group of chums to see "Dune: Part 2" (oh, and I have opinions about THAT!) and fancied something appropriately spicy afterwards: The spice must flow! We chose Rumana's on a recommendation from a friend's sister, and I'm glad we did. Their website says they "pride ourselves in treating our customers like members of our family", and it really felt like we were old friends visiting someone's home (especially with the well-behaved kids scooting around and being generally delightful - and I don't even like kids!) I think we were served by Rumana herself, and she was welcoming and helpful - a real pleasure to meet someone so engaged and enthusiastic about their restaurant, and being a great host. The other staff were also very polite and helpful, and knowledgable about the menu. Speaking of which: The menu has a selection of dishes which seem unusual and possibly unique to this restaurant. I won't go into too much detail about my friends' dishes, but all were given the thumbs up. The poppadoms came out first, of course, but the accompanying sauces need some props: Their chili-sauce-gravy thing was incredible (I almost asked if I could take some home). Most curry / balti restaurants in Brum seem to have their own 'red sauce' and it's not often one stands out as being extra-special and worthy of a paragraph of review: This was one of those special sauces. Spicy, tangy (tamarind?), thick, and with a huge amount of flavour. Well done, chef! For a starter, I had Shunamoti: I've never had a cheesy chicken tikka omelette before, but I will certainly have it again (and probably learn to make it at home). Very unusual, and very tasty. for my main, I decided to opt for something at the spicy end of the scale, and had to ask about the story behind "What the Bloody?!" (yes, that is what it is called) - no spoilers! You'll have to find out yourself. It warranted three chilis on the menu (not the hottest thing they serve), but this was a home-cooking 3 chilis and was at the top end of my spice tolerance (which is quite high), so be warned! I can recommend the mango lassi as a wonderful 'control rod' for the naga reaction. However: The dish was not just hot for the sake of being hot, but had a real depth of flavour, too. The accompanying roti was fluffy, fresh and hot. I am also reliably informed that their Peshawari Naan is one of the best my friend had ever had (and they lived in India for a while), drizzled with honey and with juicy sultanas embedded within. The restaurant is unlicensed, but there is a small shop over the road where you can buy booze if you need to. It's also next door to a 'Spoons if you want pre- or post-curry cask ales. Overall, a great experience. Northfield seems to be THE place for getting something authentic, unusual, and very tasty these days (I reviewed the equally excellent Omar Khayam a few weeks ago). I'll be back to explore the rest of the menu at some point: I definitely need to try the Atomic Chips!
