I highly recommend this place to everyone living or visiting Cardiff. The food is amazing and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Myself and my friends will definitely be visiting AfroLounge again, in our next trip to Cambridge. A special thank you to Tunde. 5*

Tried Nigerian food for the first time, enjoyed it. Great service.

Lovely music. Liked the suya and ayamase sauce. However the grilled fish, after taking so long was terrible. It wasn’t fresh and a part of it tasted strange…the yam that came with it also wasn’t fresh, was salty and really tasted different like it was leftover. And that fish was damn expensive!

I ordered assorted meat, ayamese sauce and white rice then with suya. The assorted meat was just the tripe which I was not impressed and the sauce was not spicy nor tasty. I won't recommend the sauce but the suya was a 5 out of 10. I am highly impressed with their good services then good afro pop music.😁

Extremely low portions, i ordered on Deliveroo and barely got a spoon of egusi, the 2 piece of beef tasted old and the bocoto was extremely hairy. I don’t know whose ancestors I upset, but that was very disappointing.

Really lovely food, fantastic flavours. Something to be aware of is that Swallow meals are meant to be eaten with the hands - liquid soap and a large bowl of water are provided at the beginning of the meal, so there's no anxiety about having hands clean enough to eat with. Good selection of drinks. It included cocktails and they've taken the trouble to include some alcohol-free ones which is fab. Ambience-wise this is a noisy place. There are 2 screens and the noise level means people shout rather than talk. That's uncomfortable if you have hearing trouble or if you want a cosy and/or romantic experience. I also noted that my husband was deferred to, asked what he'd like to order and served first (drinks and again when food arrived). There seemed to be no effort made to include both of us, or alternate who was spoken to/served first. I sincerely hope this was just a coincidence and might be different another time. That doesn't change the fact that The Afro Lounge serves beautiful food and it's well worth visiting to enjoy something new.

Very good Nigerian meal. Had a nice time watching the euros too. But we need more recent afrobeats. Overall, it’s a 5 star

Afro Lounge is a great place to be, for the last 4 years away from home, have not eaten anything as good as what i had in afro lounge, Food 10/10 minus nothing, customer service is so on point.. The guy that attend to us (Kunle) gave us welcoming smiles.. The atmosphere is conducive.. I really love it there at afro lounge.. definitely coming back over and over again.

I ordered from Uber eat , assorted egusi with poundo yam, the soup smelt sour immediately I opened it , the meat was too soft like it’s been cooked for days , I couldn’t eat much threw it out. Waste of money , and even the sea food okro was tasteless. Bad food prep , serving days cooked microwaved meal.

Had high hopes but the jollof rice with beef is mostly jollof rice with chunks of fat. I struggled to find much meat in the dish and when I did it was quite dry. Outside of that the taste didn't impress The portion size was good but the service was cold and food disappointing

Purchasing food from this lounge was scary, but I will boldly say , it was one of the best decision, cos the food was worth it. I know I was difficult, you were as well, but it was overall wonderful experience. Keep it up. And you agreeing to come over not minding the distance was very much appreciated. Thank you.

The food was amazing! I tried the fish egusi and the seafood boil and the flavour was very good and unique. The portion sizes are very fair and I had leftovers for another day. The staff were also very kind. Highly recommend this place for Nigerian food. Will definitely be coming back.

I was so excited to order from afro lounge even though the prices were so high compared to other African restaurants in Cardiff. The grill fish was a disappointment clearly was not freshly cooked was pre heated from previous cooking possible a few times , so dry, cold and hard to bite into. Let me not even get started with the bitterleaf soup. Only positive thing with the other was the plantain and pounded yam both were freshly cooked. For food poisoning safety, the order went straight to the bin. Not to talk of the prices are not worth the portions you get . I had to raise it with delivroo and got my money back after they ask for photos and I provided them. Such a shame you can not add photos with this reviews

The food is the best African food you'll ever try in the whole United Kingdom, the taste is amazing. Everything is perfect and you'll keep coming for more. Enjoy! Afro lounge is the best restaurant. EVERYTHING I SAID HERE IS THE OPPOSITE. lol. This is the worst restaurant ever. Avoid the seafood okro if you like yourself. I’m speaking from experience. Run away from Afro lounge if you can

Food was very good and of generous amounts. Had some issues ordering via Uber eats and eventually collected the order myself. Staff were friendly and repeatedly apologised for any inconvenience caused. Overall, a very good experienced.

I was delighted to be drawn outside of my usual choices on Whitchurch Road, and find food I greatly enjoyed as entirely reminiscent of my limited experience in African countries. It was my first taste of Nigerian food though, and it’s created a desire to try more! We ordered 2 “jalof rice with meat”, and at the last minute my brain followed my watering mouth to order “white soup” with goat meat. The rice dishes reminded me of the African spicing I’ve eaten on the continent: they had strong heat, to accompany the tasty authentic cuts of meat. Some people might experience one or two chunks of the meat as chewy. I think cooking it for a little longer could remedy this - but it’s how I remember the texture of African cooking, so it was perfect for me. When I collected the food for takeaway, the friendly and warm staff asked how I know about the soup dish. I hadn’t had that before but was too drawn not to try. It was a spice taste sensation! Very strong, (white?) pepper flavour, that complimented the perfectly cooked goat meat. I thought it was delicious. Thank you so much, I hope to see you very soon. Final thought: perhaps you might have a menu in the window that describes the ingredients / flavours of the dishes, that way more people might be tempted into trying this unique and hugely enjoyable experience.

What a tremendous experience eating delicious food with friends in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We loved the suya spice and the gentleman owner of the establishment allowed me to take a tub home (gratis). A kingly gesture to top off a fabulous evening. 6 stars.

We had a nice time at Afro Lounge. We ordered a plate of jollof rice and fish with plantain and pounded yam with seafood okra soup. The pounded yam was great and the fish was well seasoned. The jollof was okay but the fish and plantain made up for it. The service could have been better. We appreciated that we could place our order in advance over the phone. However, when we arrived, we weren't offered a drinks menu and had to ask to order drinks. When our drinks arrived, we were handed a bottle opener instead having the drinks opened for us. After our food arrived, no one checked how we found our food and we waited a while to get their attention for the bill. Overall, it was a positive experience and the manager seemed receptive to our feedback, so we trust it will be actioned for next time. We will be back for our discount 😉

Really worth the detour, having decided to pop into Afro Lounge on the way back to Bristol from attending the theatre at millenium centre in Cardiff Bay. Really nice communication from proprietors of the restaurant via facebook when asking queries about facilities. I brought my mum in as a treat for her and they were accomodating and helpful in answering questions about menu and making us welcome even though she decided we would sit but then have dishes made up to take away. Restaurant were fine with this. Dishes were really well made, lovely and hot temperature and very well packed to enable us to transport safely home to Caldicot and Bristol respectively. Reviews of food specifically the Efo riro was gorgeous locust beans and choppo really nice texture, very spicy which was nice for us. Eba perfect texture and very nicely wrapped. Jollof nice party style smokiness but not too dry well seasoned, meat a fair amount, could always be more. Suya absolutely beautiful texture, salad a bit redundant but generous touch. Cucumber a bit gross once impacted by heat of suya, possibly best to pack separately in future? Asun just so brilliant, really generous portion and so well seasoned, i will definitely be back for more of that! Fried rice with fish was bought for 3rd party and recieved a bit of a lukewarm response, they questioned quality of fish and found it unexpectedly spicy. The plantain side dish was also a little disappointing but then that is probably prefer my plantain sweeter and a bit more fried whereas i suspect they lightly fry green plantain rather than yellow which is fine if your preference. Ginger beer also lovely, but so many drinks on menu I really wanted to try if wasnt driving. Overall glad we stopped by. It was quite expensive but felt worth it.

Jollof rice and meat was spot on, nice n spicy. Suya was good, albeit the 'salad' was dry and not needed, just onion. Pepper soup with meat, the soup was too 'watery' and the only meat was sharkey. It had a kick though. Efo riro was nice albeit too oily. Overall it was a nice meal.
