I understand that it’s Spanish fusion but I wished they didn’t put too much of chorizo flavour as my choice of the menu were v limited. I don’t eat pork. So I had gambas for starter and the hot seafood as a main. It was too much of almost the same thing except of course the main was a bigger portion with lobster and fish in it. The staff serving us were friendly and polite. Cosy deco.

Coming to this restaurant was a brilliant experience and now this place is our favourite place to go to for a steak in the area. All the food that we ordered was brilliant, but the highlight of our meal was a tomahawk - perfect cut of meat cooked exactly as we liked it. The staff was very friendly and nice and had great recommendations for the wine, and the chef came out to greet us and chat to us throughout the meal which was an extra bonus The place itself is very cozy and cute and it’s easy to find parking

My personal experience of Acorn was fantastic. Went for the catalan bread to start/share which was unusual and interesting... Best described as a cross between a foccacia and a pizza. Main was the sharing hot seafood platter. This wasn't what I had in mind when I think platter. It's more a collection of seafood within a seafood bisque. Naming preconceptions aside it was DELICIOUS. perfectly cooked lobster scallops, monkfish and prawns in a rich seafood bisque bursting with flavour and rich intensity. It was outstanding. Desserts were a catalan version of pain perdu which was very pleasant. The tarte tatin was the better dessert for us though.. Bitter, sticky caramel balanced by the sweet apple heavy top. Served with a tangy and sweet whipped yoghurt. Service was very friendly and efficient. Chef likes talking to the customers which adds a very personal touch. Ambience slightly lacking but less to do with gwthw overall decor and lighting which was nice enough.. But more to do with the fact it was a midweek dinner and the restaurant was relatively empty. Although in my opinion it shouldn't be.. We had a terrific experience and will definitely come back again to try other dishes.

More to dislike than like based on first visit. 1. Pretentious need to guarantee booking with credit card. I understand no shows are a problem in the industry. But when you’re less than half full it does seem over the top. 2. Standard frozen duck spring rolls. 3. Diabolical ham croquettes. Nothing remotely Mediterranean about them more reminiscent of a cheap fish cake with lots of starch, little flavour and certainly not much hint of ham. Service was pleasant. Good things were the tempura soft shell crab - excellent quality though I’m not sure about marrying an essentially subtle dish with overpowering kimchi. Duck stir fry was very good. Overall I felt this was a place trying to be something that it . Did I mention how bad the ham croquettes were? Sad to think that a lovely town centre like godalming has this as its flagship.

Bruce and Marlena did an excellent job serving us a private dinner for 26 guests. The food was consistently delicious: we had mixed tapas to start, seafood in a bisque and tomahawk steaks for our main, and a selection of finger food sweet cakes for dessert. Acorn was able to cater for multiple dietary requirements including vegetarians, lactose-intolerant, pregnant, gluten-free, and a combination of all the above. They were very clear which foods were suitable for which guests, and ensured that the alternatives were also great. The wine list was good and reasonably priced, with a tasty Alberino which we enjoyed. The only thing we struggled with was that the cancellation policy was not clear for a large group like ourselves and we had to go back and forth a bit to establish how it worked. Otherwise everything was fantastic. Thank you!

Food is very good for the most part. However for the high price of everything it does not represent reasonable value. When paying close to £20 for a starter and close to £30 for a main you are expecting something really special, which the food and experience do not quite live up to. As such, the whole place seems quite overstated and out of kilter with the local area. There are much better local options available.

Shocking - we walked out! We are local and have wanted to try the Acorn for a while and decided to give it a go last Friday night. I wish we hadn’t, I have never had such a poor experience in a restaurant. We ordered the steak for two at £85, which we asked for medium rare, but arrived blue in the middle. We kindly asked the waitress to ask the chef to cook the steak some more, not an unreasonable request. The chef decided to bring the steak out himself and was so rude telling us that we were wrong that medium rare is meant to be cooked like that. I have never been spoken to in such a condescending way, that we stood up and walked out. Before the steak we had the monkfish and pork belly to start (both at £12.50) and both were unbelievably average, the pork belly fat wasn’t rendered and tasted like something cheap you’d pick up at Tesco, the monkfish was so heavily battered and sat on top of some horrible tomato sauce. Worst still, I felt horrible for the young waitress who was visibly shaking after taking our steak back into the kitchen - god knows what the chef had been saying to her. We won’t be back.

First time at Acorn Restaurant, and I wish we could have attend it much sooner! Exceptional food and service. Instead of having a regular practice of starting off the dinner with the starters and the main, we were advised to have a “flight” with the selections of starters. Indeed a valuable advise, and our experience was more than delightful. High quality food, and very reasonably priced for the quality of food that exceeds many respectable businesses in London. We will be coming back to explore the rest of the menu, and will be excited for every upcoming specials. Thank you!

What a wonderful find! Highly recommended. We popped in on a short trip to Godalming to make the most of the lunch menu (£15 mains were amazing value!). The staff were warm and welcoming. They explained they were short staffed but you wouldn't have known- everyone was calm and attentive. The food was just wonderful. We had the crab cake, saltfish croquettes and mussels. All delightful. For mains we had the steak, sole I chorizo and caper sauce. We all argued we'd had the best plate of the day but all 3 were gorgeous. We finished with lemon meringue pie and crema catalana and all agreed we would have eaten a second plate there and then. Most lovely of all was Bruce who came out of the kitchen to introduce himself. He also helped us plan the best day of the trip with his awesome recommendations. If we hadn't already had a reservation the next night, we'd have honestly gone back. Highly recommend!

The best restaurant we have ever been in Great Britain! For appetizers we ordered fresh scallops on the shell with sesame dressing, fresh wood roasted sardines and garlic prawns, everything was truly delicious. Then, we tried fish and tomahawk steak with creamy potatos and vegetables. We've been already full, but when we saw the desserts, our hearts beat faster! There were warm blondie and brownie with vanilla ice cream, crema Catalana, carmel brioche and tiramisú mousse. That was a great feast for our palates. And last but not least, the service was very helpful and kind. We've spend a great family time there!

Food tasted great, what there was of it! I had the Red Mullet off the lunchtime menu. Apparently it was served with veg and potatoes. I had 2 or 3 small pieces of potato (small cube) 3 halves of cherry tomatoes and very few beans / pieces of cabbage. This was under the fish fillets. After “lunch” I was hungry so had to visit Waitrose to purchase a roll. Not great. Service Bit slow (1 and 1/2 hours) for a single course, which wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t during our work lunch hour. My drink did not arrive so had to re-order. One of the side orders was missed from someone’s order on our table. Two people had to ask for their veg/potatoes to go with their fish main. The waiter didn’t ask who order what drink and just placed them wherever they felt like it. Overall not a great visit. Perhaps I’m missing something but I do actually want to feel full after eating a main course (£15). That is my honest opinion of my visit. Seems to be different to other reviews, perhaps the evening/non lunch menu is better?

We have been to the Acorn before and found the food to be excellent, so I was a bit concerned by the reviews in February. I need not have worried. The food was as good as ever. I never leave a bad review but tonight is a first, we had a table of 6 and food took over 2 hours to get there. Steak was awful and at £40 you’d expect to get at least a semi good cut of meat. It seems I should have read the trip adviser comments for this month (February) because our experience was also disappointing. Last year we visited the restaurant for my husband's birthday and it was excellent - so much so that we decided to go again this year for the same reason. I had so been looking forward to returning and had told everyone we knew what an amazing chef they had. Fast forward and when we went on Friday 23rd February it was truly awful for me at least. We don't get out much as my husband has mobility problems. He said his meal was ok. I am an experienced domestic cook and I found each of my three courses were amateurish, not very tasty and lacking in flavour. The staff were inexperienced although that wasn't a problem for us. The chef was not the same chef as last year. The meal was too expensive for the quality of the dishes. We did not complain as we did not want to cause a fuss but I felt future customers as well as the proprietor should be aware of how the standard has fallen.

Its not the first time of visiting Acorn, and in the past we have had a wonderful experience, but this time we were very disappointed. This was a family celebration. Once shown to our table, we were left a a long time before our order was taken, no drinks offered in the meantime. Eventually the drinks arrived, but not for all the party. All the starters came together, even though they had been ordered in two separate lots (oysters should have come with padron peppers, then starters to follow). The second bottle of wine delivered wasn't what we ordered. For the cheese course, we asked for the cheeses to be explained, the waitress didn't know, so went for advice from a colleague, who quite obviously, also didn't know!, as one of the cheeses was described as 'cranberry cheese', there wasn't a cranberry in sight, and on tasting, we decided it was a truffle cheese. During the evening we noticed a couple of customers leaving, and we presume it was due to the long wait for service/lack of service. Our bill had a service charge of of 47.31 which we paid, but in hindsight, I should have challenged this charge, it was disproportionate to the service we received. We can all cook good food at home, and it is generally for the experience and service that we go out for a meal, unfortunately on this occasion both were lacking. I sincerely hope that this review is taken on board and that in future the staff at Acorn up their game.

Last Saturday,17th February 2024, I booked Acorn for my brother's 60th birthday family get together. Three members of our party had been before and recommended it as something extra special and, of course, it gets amazing reviews on line. I booked the table way back in December for 10 adults and 1 child. I actually spoke to the owner/chef when I booked and he seemed happy with it. I then received a confirmation email. In between booking and the date of our visit, I attempted to phone the restaurant numerous times to discuss our visit, especially as we were a large party, but the phone was never answered by a human and had no facility to leave a message. I trusted that all would be well on the day. How wrong could I be?! When we arrived at the restaurant, despite being the only people in it at that point, it took half an hour to get drinks. The two waitresses on duty, whilst very nice, were both new to the job; one had been there one day and it was the other's first day. There were no waiting staff to show them what was expected and it was a case of muddling through. No one brought us any menus. We found them ourselves and decided on what we wanted to order. We had to ask several times for someone to take our order. We were visited by the chef/patron who told us his wife had left and he was on his own in the kitchen. Whilst sympathetic to his plight, it wasn't our problem and he should have been in touch with me prior to our visit to discuss options, such as a set menu, if our party was going to present his establishment with difficulties. Three members of the group had ordered starters and, when they eventually arrived, they were fine. The prawns were particularly delicious. The tortilla, which we ordered for the child in the party, was also well cooked (£15 though). We then had to waited an unacceptably long time for any main meals to arrive despite there being only a few other guests in the restaurant. We had high hopes. However, the three Tomahawk steaks were very gristly and you needed a tomahawk to cut through them. One was stone cold. The three fish of the day were cooked well but were not very warm. The shared fish platter was delicious. The side of seasonal vegetables was frankly a joke. It looked like shreds of day old left overs, likewise the one portion of chips which were overcooked and brittle. We so wanted to have a wonderful time but our experience was a major let down, and an expensive one to boot. To put this in context, I have never ever felt the need to complain in a restaurant but on this occasion I did. This in itself was something I didn't want to happen on my brother's birthday as it put a major dampener on any celebrations. I explained to the owner that I was not going to pay the service charge. I expected him to apologise for the mediocre food and the appalling service or take some money off the huge bill, but he just kept making excuses. My feeling is, if you are running a top notch, expensive restaurant, there is no excuse. We paid the bill, minus the service charge, and left, never to return I'm afraid.

We ordered the hot seafood sharing platter, which was more like a stew than a platter. They forgot the dipping breads, then after fishing around for a while trying to find a prawn, I informed the waiter there was no prawns. The chef came down and said sorry he had forgot but he had stuck extra scallops in there. So he forgot the prawns? Or he's compensating with scallops? Which one is it? Then came down and said sorry again as he had forgot to prep them which is why they weren't added. I assume it was a case of trying to get away with not doing the prawns and hoping scallops would be ok. Well I didn't want extra scallops, that's not what I paid for. It annoyed me, and I felt I was being lied to, I didn't want to make a scene as it was my mum's birthday but it ruined my night. 2 things missing from an £85 platter should not be happening. First time and last time I'll be going.

I used to love this place, but they seem to have gone very downhill recently. When you are paying £35 for a fish you expect it not to be over cooked. When I sent it back the chef refused to cook it again for me as they (had “already batched cooked the fish”… no wonder it was over cooked) they then said we can cook some cod fresh for you…. Which came out stone cold in the middle and completely raw. I would say , the staff there are very lovely, clearly it is just the chef that has an attitude problem. I’m not a fusspot, but I could cook a fish better at home with my eyes closed. The chef has clearly lost his passion, which is very sad. The second time we have had to send food back now. This place used to be great, but unfortunately it has let standards slip considerably. My recommendation is go to a Michelin star Restruant , the price is similar , but at least the chef will take pride in this food they serve. A real disappointment.

Top notch table service, incredibly fresh and tasty seafood. What didn’t wow us was the Catalan bread and white wine should have been served colder. Otherwise fabulous place that we will return to for sure.

The service in this restaurant is very good. It is quick, efficient and friendly . The food doesn’t reflect the service. The moules are large and flavoursome. The sauce is lacking in flavour. The bread is heavy and the flavoured butters are synthetic in taste. The chicken pate is disappointing although presentation is fine. The sea fish ( for 2) was good but again the sauce disappoints. I think the same sauce was used for the moules. The cheese was very good. I suggest that a stable door be used at the bar to prevent viewing the dishwasher and rubbish bin for the person sitting directly opposite. A bottle of wine £38 and 3 course meal was £180. So, all in all it was disappointing.

We have just been here for a birthday treat: the food is always incredible, with amazing flavour combinations. We asked for wine to be recommended and were offered an excellent choice. The atmosphere is informal and welcoming, and the staff are knowledgeable about the food and friendly. 10/10 thank you!

The care for customers by the owner and staff is only beaten by the wonderful food. My wife and I tucked into the Oysters, well sized and cleanly shuck. For mains we enjoyed Mussels with Frites, these tasty, meaty molluscs were served in a delicious white wine sauce that was made for dipping some of the fresh bread into afterwards. Full belly but was talked into the Lemon Lime meringue pie that was washed down with a coffee. What a treat.

If I can rate this restaurant any higher, I would. The food was fresh and well seasoned. The ambience was relaxing and cosy. The service was friendly and efficient. The manager asked us to remove a dish as believe we over ordered. Luckily we listened. We had r people and ordered scallops, oysters, mussels and fried fish for starters. For mains, braised beef, mussels, fish of day and fried fish. It was a lovely experience and we shall sure visit again. Thank you for a lovely evening. :)

This restaurant really is a gem in godalming and I would go back but not for the seafood. The service was excellent, the owners are friendly, and the atmosphere and decor was spot on. Most of the food was fantastic but it was sadly let down by seafood. We found the lobster and prawns to be mushy and about 1/4 of the mussels were closed. It’s a shame the seafood didn’t hit the highs of other Spanish delicacies on the menu.

This is possibly the best restaurant I have ever eaten at. Attentive, atmosphere, attitude. There is not a restaurant in the uk that competes.

Friendly and welcoming team at the restaurant, lovely atmosphere and delicious food. We shared a tapas board to start - a mixture of hot and cold tapas which was very tasty and hadn't resorted to the predictable cold meats and cheese. The waitress explained what each item was. As main course my husband had chargrilled Iberico pork which was outstanding. He's past 60, spent many years dining out in expensive restaurants but had never come across Iberico pork. Apart from being delicious he was. thrilled to find something he hadn't eaten before and found delicious. I had a special - wild sea bass wrapped in Serrano ham and served in a pea velour. Very tasty and beautifully presented. Everything is made in the restaurant - even the sticky toffee pudding which was particularly good as it wasn't over sweet and sickly. We will definitely return.

Top class local eatery. The Iberico pork really is sensational. It’s a small, friendly place that’s buzzy but not noisy. Excellent wines and delicious food.

Absolutely stunning food and a lovely atmosphere to enjoy it in. The seafood is brought up from Brixham in Devon each day and is of the highest quality. I cannot fault the food, presentation or service. I consider myself an Acorn regular!

As usual an excellent meal. The combination of ingrediencies, herbs and spices are superb. Each dish is a triumphs and so full of flavour. The staff are welcoming, efficient and quick to attend to every need you may have. You must book if you want a table on a Saturday evening as the Restaurant is very often full. Yes it is expensive but lovely as a special treat.

We had yet another wonderful meal at Acorn last night. The food and the service was exemplary. My partner has a food intolerance and that was not an issue. Chef Bruce came out to discuss his needs and reassure him with a variety of adapted menu options. The special scallops and venison were 5*.

Wonderful experience at my new favourite restaurant. We are new to the area and tried Acorn for the first time today. Each course was something special and we all commented that it was the best meal we've had for some time. Sardines and chicken liver pate yo start, amazing. Sea bass for main course, delicious. Managed to find room for dessert and it was worth it. Lovely service from the owner and I'm already looking forward to returning.
