Great value for money- great service

No food available to eat and staff didn’t seem bothered. Went Xmas Eve. Ordered a steak and chips and steak & ale pie. None was available So asked for gammon. There was no gammon so asked for yorkshire pudding meal. Again, no yorkshire puddings! Complete waste of time and staff couldn’t give a s***! Will not go thete again

Updating my previous review in order to reflect the service I received recently. I came out with my dad for a couple of drinks and we like to watch the horse racing. Since it was a quiet night we asked the barmaid to put the racing on, she didn't know what channel it was on so she handed me the remote. At that same moment a large aggressive bartender came round the corner and shouted at me, demanding I gave the remote back, I asked him if he could put the racing on and he swore at me. When I called him out for swearing at me, both me and father were told to "drink up and LEAVE!". My father is 75 and was really shaken and scared by this incident. The barmaid and bartender then disappeared for 5 minutes whereupon the barmaid returned looking very upset, like she had been crying, I can only guess that she was taken in the back and given a huge bollocking. I can safely say that after almost 20 years of drinking in the Abbey that I will never be going there again!! I have made a downfall complaint to the Stonegate company detailing this entire incident but haven't received and response, no one cares.

We've been 3x in the last couple of months we've had the lunch deal which is excellent value The nachos,wings and chicken goujons are all good of the main meals I've had the curry is the best Staff are always very good and friendly The only thing I would say is it's sometimes cold and even though there are fires they've never been lit

Excellent pub for a good variety of food. Staff friendly and helpful creating a lovely atmosphere. Sunday lunch was excellent, and so easy to make a booking online! I have lived in Shrewsbury for 23 years but never been here before!We shall be coming again soon!

Bad beer, very expensive, mediocre food.

Well called in for a quick lunch . Regret. No-one behind the bar ? Waited 10mins . Then told that new menu & did not know it ? Had toasties & 🍟. Chios rock hard . Tried to sell some app ?? What a kerfuffle ?? Wont be back . Shame really . No attention to nothing ??

just been in for lunch with the wife and saw their offer of 2 dine for £20 mon-fri 2x starters or dessert 2x mains and 2x drinks absolute bargain both had chicken wings for starters then fish chips and mushy peas with tartar sauce a pint of Guinness(+£1)as wasn't on the allocated drinks for the offer and a pot of tea really good food definitely be coming back again soon

Great atmosphere and friendly place.

We reserved the table we normally use 2 weeks in advance when attending the quiz. we checked by phone on the Monday and Wednesday that it was available and were told it was. When we arrived we were told we couldn't have our table and couldnt reserve a particular table but the table we normally have was reserved for someone else who had booked it a week after we had booked. Even though you can't book a particular table ?????. I have MND at am wheelchair bound. The rest of the staff are normally very accommodating due to the difficulty in accessing some tables. There wasn't another table reserved. Eventually this was resolved. We had our meal which wasn't great. There was then problems with another quiz team with the same problem as ours .We were then confronted by a member of staff very rudely and humiliatingly in front of our guests who had joined us. We were accused of writing a bad review, which (then) we had not. We were rudely told we are barred. If we had been taken to one side and discussed things that would have been fine. To shout at us in the middle of a busy pub is totally unacceptable. We have witnesses on ours and the next table that we hadnt said anything to warrant such a viscious outburst. Such a shame as we all enjoy taking part in the quiz. A local landlord has kindly invited us and other teams to join his quiz.

We’ve been attending the quiz nights for several months now due to our friend being in a wheelchair, as there’s not many pubs he can access .There are usually 7 of us but 2 couldn’t make it last night. We’ve eaten there on several occasions and mostly found the food good and staff helpful and polite.Unfortunately everything changed last night,our friends arrived first and weren’t able to get our usual table, no problem as another was found, they had meals and later our friend in wheelchair was looking at something going on when a lady,manager or owner, I hadn’t seen before,came over and asked if he wanted to speak to her,our friend said no,she asked again,quite aggressively he replied firmly that he didn’t want to speak to her ,she then told them they wouldn’t be served any more drinks,also they were told she’d seen the review,which was impossible as a review hadn’t been done.we’d all paid for the quiz ,which we did but all were very upset by the incident and couldn’t concentrate , there aren’t many pubs we can attend now as our friend has MND and totally relies on a wheelchair , we are all quite shaken and upset by the experience

Visited twice now, first time at the beginning of the October 2018. Our food took ages to arrive and looked dried out. It was Scampi, chips and peas, the scampi and chips the hard and cold, the teaspoon of peas we couldn't eat and the tartar sauce was so coarsely made, the gherkins overpowers everything. We tried to bring this to the attention the waiting staff, but they were dealing with getting another customer's order wrong and ignored us. As it was lunch time and we had to wait for a our meals for do long, we run out of time, we ate what we could and left. Visited again as part of a party for the Christmas menu. The starter of tomato soup was delicious, very chunky, could had passed as pasta sauce. The turkey with trimmings were tasty, vegetables were a little disappointing and could of done with more gravy. The chocolate brownie, was a little dry, but looked a lot nicer and tasted too than the small sliced of Christmas pudding given to someone else. The waiting staff were pleasant, but there were lots of confusion on pre-ordered choices and we found it hard to get their attention. There was a quiz happening when we were there, but we couldn't hear what was being said over the mic, even though it was set up just by our tables, which made us unable to chat to each other.

Brilliant meal, lovely atmosphere

I decided to visit for tea with my family because of the reviews on here. The kids meals were good value at £7.49 for a main and pudding. The adult meals were underwhelming, especially for the price of them when visiting during periods when there's no deal on. Unfortunately the cleanliness of the place was very lacking. We asked for our table to be cleared and wiped down but ended up doing it ourselves with wet wipes out the car. All the other tables around us weren't cleared of empty glasses for the whole time we were there, even though it wasn't busy at all and there were enough staff behind the bar.

Came here today with my husband and sister me and my husband had the 2 for £20 menu and value for money was astounding we had a main meal a dessert and I had a glass of wine and hubby had a pint of cider my sister had a jacket spud and a drink the bill was £30 and the food was lovely staff very friendly too thanks 😊

I was abit hesistant at first the new menu removed alot of the stuff I enjoy or increased the price on menu items that remained. However I tried one of the new jacket potato's specifically the mac and cheese one and I have to say it was amazing, staff we're great especially the young man with glasses. Would highly recommend it is abit more pricey but the food is still amazing. Lovely service and great food!

Typical English pub, very kind and thoughtful, friendly, understanding. Good physical Nd chipset price without exaggeration. The England that I remembered and that deserves to be known.

The pub was ok, plenty of space and choice of seats. Food was expensive and the amount and quality of the chilli I for £13.99 was very mediocre and poor. There was virtually no meat, just a lot of sauce. The amount of chips given with scampi was also rationed! My advice, have a drink but don't bother going for the food.

Awful that’s all I can say . Been coming here for 7 years and used to be an inexpensive warm pub . Now freeing cold with bad appalling service. Prices gone through the roof much more than other pubs in Shrewsbury. We will not be coming here again after all this time . Very sad

Just had a meal in the Abbey pub Monkmoor road. Shrewsbury Pie and chip as advertised on menu. The so called chips where fries not cooked properly. The veg was like rubber. In general for the price it wasn’t good. Complained to staff with no offer of a refund just a sorry mate . Quality food I don’t think so 😡

I used to come here a few years ago and it was a great pub back then. However, yesterday I came with my daughter and friend and found it to be unclean with sticky tables, staff were not helpful or friendly. The food, well, compared to other pubs it's the most expensive I've been to lately will little choice of normal pub meals, and burgers were around £15. I ordered a burger which comes with a choice of fries. The usual French fries were out of stock, so were the sweet potato ones, so there was only chunky chips. I ordered fries as a side to another meal and had to pay extra due to there only being choice of one, and when the food did come, it was lukewarm and the burger itself was burnt and dry, like it had all been cooked half an hour before and out under a heat lamp. The waitress shoved them down on the table and walked off. We had no cutlery, so I had to go and find her to ask were it was, no apology, just an over at the door in trays. Dogs are allowed at the outside table, one of which jumped straight up at my friend because the owner wasn't watching it, scaring her. I would not recommend. Expensive, unfriendly, food overpriced and not particularly edible, noisy garden with dogs who wander up to customers tables, glasses weren't clean and neither were the tables. Parking was also an issue with people taking up 2 spaces due to narrowness of the spaces. I will not visit again unless the company and staff change. Not even worth one star!

Have used this pub for many years and has been brilliant, The new staff/owners are very rude and clearly do not like children being there! Clearly shown we are not welcome!myself and many others will not be using the local abbey ever again!

Nice place to meet up and eat/drink. Menu has drink options to make it more interesting economically whilst the bar has a very good selection of drinks. Many cask ales on offer in good condition which is good with so many on 👏 Food was served timely and hot. No trouble to ask staff anything and very accommodating. We had a large party of over 20 people and all catered for. Has a number of TVs should you want to watch sport etc

Visited this place on Saturday & the food was not good, chicken cold & not cooked enough had to send back, beer also cloudy & had to send back! Not offered anything really just to cook chicken again, will not be visiting again!

stopped off on way home from Wales mid afternoon,so the place was quiet, food great & reasonably priced,good selection of beers etc,gladiator cider really good 8%🤪,dogs could come in,in the section.staff friendly,nice beer garden by the looks of it,this for the sport.would Defford pop in if travelling up this way again. would have given a 5 for atmosphere, as it was quiet,but expect its good later on & weekends.thank you The Abbey👌👍

One of our party had a chicken tikka masala which was burnt to the bottom of the dish, rice was dry,nan bread was slightly bigger than a rich tea biscuit. my burger was dry and rock hard,2 people ordered lager which looked like it had been standing for a week (1 got theirs changed,other didnt want to make a fuss)it was really flat, glad I won't have to travel all that way again..

I have given a 5 star then a 4 star. Now a 2 star. We went today, the food wasn't good. I had hunters chicken in a boulinase/tomato sauce which was unpleasant, another family member had the roast pork only to question when eating that the crackling had been forgotten to then be told they had run out of crackling (at 12.30pm on a sunday) with no apology and a token roast potato. Its unfortunate gone down hill...

I had the mixed grill, was nice but nothing special. Not much of a choice for puddings, especially when the chocolate brownie isn't in stock. Service seemed a bit poor, missing item on the kids pudding and crumble bowl was volcanic which the server didn't warn you about. Had to pay £20 to reserve the table which you need to remember to take it off your food bill.

Must have been taken over since I last went, not up to the usual standard I k ow it as, mixed grill steak was very grisly and un chewable, my son left half of his mixed grill as it was all dry or too salty, No customer service asking if all was well and even when paying not questioned if the meals were OK. I had a full English, can't really say it was the best but I enjoyed it.

Went for meal family - children have picture to colour but nothing to colour with ? Don’t give if you can’t for fill. Quite a few staff on duty with management. Observation only two young lads were running around serving - from bar to taking orders, clearing tables & bring food out. There seems to be change of management? If what I witnessed not good leadership. Thankfully two males one with glasses the other with goatee beard People were served correctly Even made remarks when paying - “Your tick of all tricks only you and other lad doing it all” To hear who I believe to be manager “I wouldn’t say that” Tip for management - Rude never pull down customer when praising a staff member. Roll your sleeves up and motivate All your staff You are not there to take the glory your staff give you the glory well two did and was working lot harder than the rest of the team Oh just so you know That was 100% observation as well as having 40 year in the hospitality

Food was bang on! I've never ordered a steak and actually got it how I asked it to be cooked, not only that it was delicious! Food arrived quickly and service was awesome! There was a great lad I think called ollie... serving us, what a guy! Thanks ill definitely be back frequently, for the food but mostly the service.

Just want to say a massive thank you for accommodating us for our recent works Christmas meal. Food and service was excellent, especially with the amount of food you had to get out in one go. Thank you for making it such a smooth process. Highly recommend, keep up the great work.

The waitress was rude and served a main meal with starters . The main meals were awful with inedible food . Could not understand what went wrong. Normally quite good. Complained to barman who appeared to be manager and who seemed unconcerned with no apology or offer of reimbursement. We will pass this onto our friends and it will be a long time before we return.

Decent beer selection. Haven't eaten there as of yet, however, judging by how sticky the outside tables are not sure I will. Dog friendly though, always a plus in my book.

So this is now the 2nd time I have taken dad for sunday lunch here. 1st visit I wasn't impressed but dad enjoyed his beef. Went yesterday, and it was horrendous. Dad thought he had been given a pork chop instead of sluced beef as it was so thick and full of fat and gristle. Mash was tasteless. Infact we left our plates full of food, so sorry, we will not be going back. On a good note the staff are lovely and helpful . Just need the kitchen looking at. Sorry

Menu was in transition so half the options were off. Soup of the day; tomato and basil; very sweet, no other seasoning had gone into it, not the tastiest. Served with two small pieces of not the freshest bread, no butter. Pork belly cheeseburger was pretty decent, chips were good. My grandfather had ribeye steak (medium); quite chewy. Pudding was chocolate fudge cake; delicious.

This pub is quite wide and well decorated. The burger was nice with juicy beef. Everyone enjoys having a chat with friends there.

Was very disappointed today, we had a large table booked for a special occasion, most of the food had been pre ordered prior to our visit. A lady came over and checked our order, however when the food came out the service was slow and we had meals missing. When asked about the missing meals we were rudely told that the missing meals were meals that were added to our order late, this was not the case and we would have to wait for other tables to be served their food. The missing meals finally came out 30 minutes after everyone else had received their meals. The only member of staff to check where our meals were was the gentleman behind the bar who was very polite. We had no apology for the wait and the one female staff member was rude and appeared more interested in us paying our bill

Lovely clean pub with your hearty pub grub food options. Always a nice atmosphere. Lady at the bar did not smile once which let the cundtomer service down when ordering food and drink. Otherwise, my family love coming here for a quick lunch/dinner out.

Only popped in one evening on spec when working away from home and needing an evening meal. This was very busy at the time with lots groups of four or more people. I hadn't booked but a table was available and I was impressed with how fast and efficient the service was from order to my meal arriving considering the number of covers. Food as description on menu and good sized portion.

Just had a drink but atmosphere was very good. Food was good. Wine good price. Very nice Sunday evening.

Poor choice for Gluten free and vegetarian meals

Lovely food, and excellent service, the staff were brilliant in taking care of all the family which included 4 small kids.

Lovely outside booths that easily seat 6 in comfort and each booth comes with own sports screen. Food was really scrumptious and very well presented. Nice ales. Very friendly and efficient service

Went there last Friday with friends. Excellent value from lunchtime menu. Service and food was very good. Will go again.

Myself and a group of mums from the local school PTA came here for a night out for a few drinks. It was a lovely evening atmosphere was great and all the staff were happy lovely and friendly to us all definitely enjoyed it and will be going back again soon
