808 Bar in Sunderland

Visited 808 Bar and Kitchen for the bottomless Gin Trees. The offer included a pizza and the gin trees for £35. We arrived at 2pm and the servers came straight to greet us, he informed us that the 90 minutes started from the minute the drinks were ordered. We got 2 trees at first and they were split between a mixer of tonic and lemonade. After we had time to settle into our drinks the server took our food order, I opted for the Garlic Chicken Pizza. The Pizza was very tasty and I would definitely recommend trying it. We then continued with more gin trees and the server was very attentive and could tell when we were coming to the end of a tree. The only slight hitch that did arise was when we booked, we were not sure what was included in the offer and upon trying to call and email we could not get a response. All in all, it is definitely worth checking out if you are in Sunderland.

Went to 808 on Saturday for tapas and cocktails with one of my friends, quite disappointed with the food, I appreciate it was restaurant week. Most of it was left as it didn't hit the spot at all. I would say the best food we had was probably halloumi fries (can't really go wrong with that dish) and possibly the sticky chicken. I would definitely recommend it for the cocktails, raspberry and strawberry martini was my favourite and the atmosphere is quite nice but I won't be returning for food. Overall quite disappointed.

We visited for the mad hatters bottomless brunch as part of a birthday celebration and had a fantastic afternoon. The drink options were great, with a number of cocktails on offer as well as the usual fizz. The food was amazing, you had the option of a brunch menu or two tapas from the regular menu, which is what we all opted for and so pleased we did, all the dishes were unreal! The service was really impressive, the staff honestly couldn’t do enough for us, they kept the drinks flowing and no request was too much. Absolutely one of the best bottomless brunches around, highly recommend giving it a try 😊

Wow!!! Never tried the food and drinks at 808 before and now we have tried I want to go back again! We got the tapas dishes, the beef brisket was a 10/10 just beautiful, the honey chilli chicken 10/10 amazing and great size portion. We also got the halloumi fries and cod bites which were also delicious. The tandoori chicken was nice but portion was too small for price. We got two cocktails a mai tai and long island, both 10/10 cocktails, best mai tai I've tried in sunderland/Newcastle and my partner loved the long island as well. Service was brilliant, very friendly. The place is immaculate, decor is stunning and toilets are spotless too. Took a picture of drinks but we forgot too of the food! We will 100% be back, this is now one of our favourite places, this place does not not get enough credit it's absolutely amazing!!

Love this place but recently made a booking for 3:45pm on their website. Arrived to find the doors locked as they don’t open until 5pm. The website had availability from 12pm so obviously needs updating. Just to make people aware to check their opening times before booking so they’re not left disappointed

They do an amazing deal on tapas which is 4 dishes and 2 drinks for £28!! Everything always tastes so fresh and never been disappointed!!

The wife and I visited last Friday as we were in town and fancied something different. We got 5 dishes to share & 2 drinks for £32 and it was the perfect amount for the two of us for lunch. All of the dishes were great however our fav was the beef brisket croquettes and the honey chilli chicken. Would absolutely recommend and we will return.

Came on Saturday night before the theatre. Absolutely loved every single dish that came out. We ordered about 6 tapas dishes between us which was perfect I’d say. Would definitely recommend to anyone. The cocktails looked amazing too.

Would like to say a massive thank you to Hannah and team for a lovely retirement for our Honor! We had the back section all to ourselves, VIP. Atmosphere and the food was outstanding! We didn’t get to meet the chefs but THANK YOU! We will be back and wish you all the best!

We came here for the first time together after one of us previously visiting with work and enjoying it. The decor is really funky and we were led to a huge comfortable booth by Faith who provided us with excellent friendly service throughout. The service was quick and easy and we thoroughly enjoyed both the food and drinks. Would recommend.

Visited this restaurant for my daughter's birthday. It's a real gem !!!. Staff were brilliant, lovely decor , food delicious and cocktails so so nice....... As my daughter said , perfect end to a perfect day. Thank you !!!!!

This is the second time I have visited with my sisters . We had drinks and tapas All fab but staff are amazing . It really is a pleasure to be in this bar.

Another fantastic visit staff, food and drinks were brilliant. We have been a few times now and have never been disappointed Tapas was really tasty gin tree well what can you say apart from well worth it. I would recommend this place and we will definitely return in the future. Well worth a visit

Baring in mind there was a table of 15 of us I could not of asked more from the staff. They were very attentive and they constantly checked on us. No one was ever without a drink and everyone commented on how nice the food was. Trinity and Hannah tended to everyone’s need and made sure we were looked after. We all had such a lovely night. We couldn’t recommend this place enough, it was very relaxed and even hours after finishing our food they made sure everyone had a drink in hand. 10 oh of 10 experience!

Been here twice now, once a couple of years ago for a friends birthday on a Saturday night, great food, music and atmosphere. Went back recently for pancake day and it didn’t disappoint, beautifully decorated and lovely staff/service.

First visit for us ( family of 4) we wondered in just looking for somewhere to eat, not knowing it was a tapas bar. I asked the waitress how it worked, she explained easily. We ordered the duck bao buns, margarita pizza, meat platter and a child's crispy chicken meal. Duck bao buns were beautiful, very tasty and enjoyed by all, as was the meat platter. The margarita pizza was hot, freshly handmade and you can tell it was freshly made dough. Overall a lovely place with lovely food. Soft drinks maybe a little bit pricey but with the current increases - probably justified. We will definitely be returning. Polite staff. (Lovely coffee)

We typically come here before Sunderland home games. Owner/manager is really chatty, staff are polite and helpful. It’s rarely crowded but it does get busy. We really enjoy the food, have tried many of the tapas dishes - never disappointed. Back on the 5th. Hoping to sample whatever new gins have arrived on the drinks menu.

I visited here with a friend and fries were great for what you pay for 😁 but the pizza really could of done with more cheese infact a lot the prices were quite dear for drinks to don’t think I’ll be coming back

The bar is done out very nice and the COVID arrangements felt safe. Plenty of room, guards between booths etc. Went for the tapas option which was extensive in choice, there’s a lack of tapas places in the town so this was a nice change....

Came in for a drink before eating elsewhere. Saw staff collect used glasses by putting their hands in glasses and then proceed to make new drinks without washing their hands. No details collected for contact tracing, still using non disposable menus, squeezy bottles of ketchup...

we pre booked a table to take advantage of the 50% eat out to help out scheme. We arrived to be greeted by pleasant staff, social distancing is in place, we felt comfortable. We ordered the food and we also ordered a gin tree which was on special offer which was excellent value for money. Two of us ordered burgers and two of us ordered chicken shwarmer. food was very good couldn't fault it..the only thing I would say, we asked for the dessert menu and was told there was only sundaes left..this was just before 8pm...so this was extremely disappointing, I appreciate they had been busy, but you need to address this situation..you had a full restaurant with more people coming in when we left...

Me and my boyfriend recently visited here as we had never been before and wanted to make use of the eat out to help out deal. The bar itself is beautiful and is decorated amazingly (especially the girls’ toilets, the best decorated toilets I’ve been in!). As for the food, it is amazing. Very tasty and I would highly recommend the tapas dishes. We were served swiftly and food came out quite quick aswell. Due to the eat out to help out deal, the bill was very cheap for what we got but there is also an extremely good deal on for 4 plates of tapas and 2 drinks for £22 if you decide to go at the weekend.There is an extensive drink menu with plenty of cocktails which I unfortunately never tried but will hopefully be back soon to do this. The only little niggle that we had was that we paid the bill with cash and waited around 20 minutes for change. In the end I just ended up going up to the bar and handing in my bill which isn’t the end of the world.We will definitely be returning!

Me and my wife visited after hearing about the gin tree we were greeted upstairs and asked details for track and trace and shown to our seats we ordered tapas and a glass of wine each Tapas was fantastic but wine was house wine and not the best but only to be expected on a meal deal so no complaints really. We then ordered a gin tree 3 different gins over 8 glasses this is really great value and well worth it all 3 types we’re very nice staff were attentive but not overly and were very polite and friendly. We are already going to return this week and this time take our adult sons as a treat. Would highly recommend this place if you are in area

I visited here with a couple friends for food and drinks for my birthday. Everything was fabulous and we were served by a wonderful young lady named Faith. Her customer service was impeccable and she really made me feel special on my birthday! Will definitely visit again!

Beautiful decor, our waitress Faith was super friendly and helpful. Our food was beautiful and highly recommend the Watermelon sugar cocktail! Could only give a 4/5 due to the lack of choice of desserts, there was only one type of cheesecake available which we weren’t keen on so we didn’t get it. Understandable though as they are homemade and just our own preference, but would be nice to have a choice of a couple of desserts and not just one :) Will definitely be back! :)

Visited Sunday tea time. Booked table. Lovely waitresses. Lovely decor and ambience. Plenty of Covid-19 measures in place. Ordered four tapas dishes and two soft drinks for £23 after seeing the photos of the food and hearing the glowing reviews on social media however, we were majorly disappointed. Food was okay but a bit bland. Nothing special. Won’t be back for food but will be for drinks!

I booked a table for 2 at 808 on Saturday for 6pm. On arrival the door staff clearly explained the safety procedures we needed to follow in order to be COVID-19 safe. We were then seated and an extremely friendly young lady took our drinks and food order. They had a wonderful deal for 4x tapas with 2 drinks for £22 - naturally we ordered 1 deal each and ended up with 8 tapas dishes and got bread and oil on the side. We got a mixture of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes and I can say I honestly couldn’t fault a single one. It was clear that a lot of thought has gone into every dish. There was a nice atmosphere inside and staff were attentive. I will most definitely be returning soon! 10/10

Booked a table for a birthday celebration on Saturday night at 7 pm. We ordered drinks and food. When the waitress left, we realised that we didn’t get asked how we wanted our steak cooked so we tried to catch her eyes but nothing happened so I went personally to the bar and tell the barman how we would like our steak cooked. After nearly 15 minutes the waitress came back to our table to say that steaks were out of stock..... at 7 pm on a Saturday night????? That was really disappointing and however it should be stated by the waitress before people even look at the menu. Anyway we ordered something else. The chips were soggy and cold, the gravy was like jelly and lumpy and the peppercorn sauce was basically mustard with peppercorns (far from what a peppercorn sauce should be, where mustard should be one of the ingredients and not the only ingredient).

Something Different in the Sunderland bar and restaurant scene. I went early in the week for a Xmas bite to eat with work colleagues and we all really enjoyed the food and setting. I returned my my wife and kids two days later and another top meal had by all. The Loaded fires are the favourite for us. I got the enter the Dragon Chinese loaded fries and was impressed. I will be returning soon! the food here is different and unusual. Something for everyone.

I go here all the time with my friends and partner! The portion size is great, especially for how much it is, great value for money!My partner has a really bad allergy to egg and they catered to her every need, to the best standard I've ever seen a restaurant do, the staff there are great, their customer care and service is bang on.I would 100% recommend their "Enter the dragon" burger, its to die for!The drinks are fantastic value for money and taste amazing too!Already planning on visiting again and if you haven't visited already you definitely should!

A group of 12 girls visited on a Saturday afternoon for a birthday celebration. It became apparent that there was an issue as soon as we started to order, we were told about a few items that were not available. Vegan pizza was not Vegan as they didn't have the base, only had Aviation Gin, No calamari, no chilli for nachos (were offered chicken instead) We ordered and over an hour later the starters started to come. Firstly the nachos came with some melted cheese and sour cream, no salsa or guacamole as stated on the menu. There was also no chicken. When we asked why we were told that they had ran out, this should have been stated at the time of ordering. One starter did'nt arrive at allAfter starters were cleared we waited for over 30 minutes and no sign of main dishes. By this point the waitresses were avoiding the table, there was a lack of drinks orders being taken and a man that I assume was the manager didn't come out from behind the bar at all, no explanations for delay or apologies. We were fed up of waiting so we cancelled our food and left, having been in there for two and a half hours, some without eating a single thing. Very disappointing, we came back after a positive experience last year, however we won't be back. I understand that things go wrong sometimes, but this can be turned around with being honest from the outset and giving brilliant service. We were at times the only table in there too, so the excuse of being busy doesn't apply here.

went for lunch the staff are rude we ordered the lunchtime special garlic and cheese bread wasn't cooked properly the burger cheese and bacon wasn't cooked properly and was cold. told the member of staff that i couldn't eat it as it was raw her reply is we cook our burgers pink in the middle no thank you i like mine well done. received 25% off the bill definitely won't be returning here at any point

Visited here today , we choose to order from the 2 courses for £10. Garlic bread with cheese and a portion of potato skins for starters. We shared the starters garlic bread was very bland no taste at all so we added some pepper. Skins came with a little sauce drizzled on , no seperate dips ?? For main we had a big bobs burger 2 patties , bacon cheese lettuce and tomato , served with a side of fries. Burger was really nice fries whoever were burnt black and couldn’t be chewed. Complained to the barmen /waiter when he was clearing away 25% was taken off the bill. Service was from the two waiters/barmen lovely pub fab decor unfortunately wouldn’t return for food . Cocktails I would .

Great cocktails, amazing atmosphere, fab dj and kareoke. We came here after the spice girls concert and had a fantastic night. Beautiful decor and seating and a big enough dance floor.

I go here quite regularly and there is always a nice atmosphere, the food and service is always top notch. My favourite meal from the menu is the steak platter, I would definitely recommend it!!

I seen a photo of the loaded fries on Instagram and needed to try them! Me and my girlfriend went for the Enter The dragon loaded fries and the Hoisin Duck loaded fries. They were absolutely unreal, looked just like the photos also and the portion size was huge!

We went before attending the cinema so only had time for a main. My food arrived a little while after the others in my party but I was offered a free drink to compensate. The food was worth the wait and I will return (leaving more time) to sample the other food on the menu.

I recently returned to 808 after visiting previously, sampling the old menu where I tried the Jamaican me Crazy burger and enjoyed thoroughly. When I heard the guys down there had put together a new menu, I thought it would be the perfect time to return to try out one of the new dishes. I ordered the Steak Platter for One and it’s fair to say the meal did not disappoint one bit. I am often quite particular with how steak is cooked however I could not fault how the meat was cooked from how I had asked it to be. On the two occasions I have dined at 808 I have also noticed the keen attention to detail when curating and presenting the food on the plate, the food has always looked as it does on social media imagery when in front of you on the table and tasted fresh (whereas often in many places it does not). Overall great ambient up and coming establishment bang in the middle of Sunderland City centre. A comfortable environment, suitable for dining with friends or family!

I visited 808 Bar with my Hubby for the first time and was really impressed with the bar,staff, and service was second to none! we were both shown to a table and had menus brought over drinks order was taken and brought back straight away! the staff all seemed very friendly and went out there way to make sure everything was alright, food was amazing too, can’t wait to go back and sample the menu further! 10* 808 Bar

Staff were super friendly which is always a bonus, food was lovely, Crispyano burger and enter the dragon were the highlight... had a few cocktails after which were again really nice, a great place for food and drink or just for some drinks! Will be back again for sure, and recommended to friends!

After being told by a few friends to try bar 808 I visited with my family for a family meal. I thought it was amazing! Food was served quickly and it was absolutely beautiful. I got the steak platter with fries my girlfriend got a pizza everyone was really happy! Really nice modern bar too will deffo be going back

Visited here last weekend with my boyfriend and it was fab! We went for the 808 burger and the duck loaded fries and a few cocktails which were all amazing! The waiting time for food was reasonable for the high standard of food we received and the staff were lovely. Will definitely be recommending to family and friends!!

Really great food, honestly loved this place from the beginning. My friend had her 21st here and she loved it every minute, such an affordable price for such a high-end looking bar, the drinks are lovely and cold and the food still keeps me coming back for more

Came for a family night out where we planned on having food and drinks. The food was great and the platters to share was spot on for a few people to pick at. Really do recommend the Burgers or pizzas! Had a good variety of cocktails and ended up partying the night away, you know what they say, the unplanned nights are often the best.

Top class bar, top class food, top class atmosphere!

Absolutely 10/10 experience from start to finish, the food, service and atmosphere made this meal second to none. We went for the halloumi fries and prawns to start followed by 2 crispyano Ronaldo burgers. All the food was unreal and very reasonably priced. Will definitely return!

I have been to Bar 808 on several occasions with friends for food and drinks and enjoyed every time! The menu has a great selection of burgers and pizzas as well as loaded fries, drinks are reasonably priced and the interior is modern and eye catching. I enjoy the atmosphere and feel comfortable coming for a catch up with friends and also for drinks on a night out. It’s a brilliant addition to the Sunniside quarter of Sunderland and offers something a little bit different to the rest of the bars down there. Go here if you want something that’s a bit classier than average Sunderland

Having been to 808 in December and really loving the food we went back in may, it was highly disappointing the food menu had dramatically decreased with a lot less choice, the prices seemed higher and the quality of the food had dropped dramatically the food wasnt the best and wasnt that hot. The staff werent friendly at all barely spoke or gave eye contact didnt come over to see if there was any problems with the meal just came to clear the table. Was honestly disappointed with how much the quality had dropped and the less food options!

Menus brought to table on arrival but no drinks order taken after 20 mins of being sat down so went up and ordered at the bar. Food order was taken 45 mins after arriving but food came in a fair time. The menu has lots of interesting choices but the food was just okay and my partners pizzas wasn’t cooked fully. Nobody came to check if it was okay, or clear the table so we went up to the bar to pay after a long wait. On the plus side the decor is lovely and the cocktails are nice, price reasonable overall but service really needs improving.

Waitresses were rude, neglect us, brought our food cold with no cluttery and no one paid us attention when we were about to ask them...,Been waiting 1 hour for a pizza and fries! Unacceptable!

We had been very exited for this meal, we had seen many people visit this restaurant and i cant explain how disappointed i was. The meal was expensive, £15 for burger, small portion of chips and a Coke. The burger came burnt to a crisp, it tasted like we were eating a char-grill . The bacon was full of fat and was overall low quality and very small portions! DON'T GET ME STARTED on the salt and pepper chips, they are covered in a thick sauce which was very sickly. However, the decor inside is beautiful the flower walls made the place and it overall took my breath away, but the food has stopped me from ever returning, especially with that price.

We had hoped to eat here, as burger menu tickled our fancy. I get that it was a Saturday night, but when we arrived they were setting up for a party and wouldn't let us eat (we even offered to use a small table!). We left.

Brought my mam for mother's day. Only a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. I told the waitress my mam didn't like any of the mains and the chef offered her a choice from the pizza menu as there was nothing else. Service is painfully slow, there were only 8 tables in the restaurant. My 9 year old didn't eat as there was no children's menu..... on mother's day!! My mam ordered the prawn cocktail which was inedible so she had no lunch either. Poor, very poor, will not be back

Place was cold all night as door was left open so sat with coats on. Place was quiet so very little staff on (understandable I guess) food is pretty cheap, and it’s alright. Nothing to go back for even despite the price. However, drinks are extortionately priced, which just seems random giving the cheap price of the food, cocktails are expensive as are most places however there are no deals or discounts at any time of the week that I know of or that was advertised at least. I don’t know who could afford to be paying £8-10 a drink if they’ve come for the price of the food. It makes no sense. Also the functions here are ridiculously loud it’s embarassing, I think you need to sort your bass system out, I live right next to this and u can hear the noise from the other side of my building, u go outside and ur whole foundation seems to be shaking from the noise it’s kind of shocking. this place has a STUNNING interior that is totally let down by the actual running of the place.

First time visiting Bar 808 and was highly impressed with layout of venue which is very spacious, large variety on menus for food with a small price tag for the quality and after having food staff efficiently cleared table, ready for a few drinks afterwards!

After visiting with friends for food and drinks I can’t help but ooze with compliments for this place! Just what the city needed, such a breath of fresh air.

Have always heard really good things about the food and cocktails at 808 so we decided to go there for my birthday. We had a table booked, and they never mentioned anything on the phone. We got there and the whole place had been hired out for a 21st birthday party, which included a DJ, smoke machine and laser lights. When we said we had a table booked they only had 3 tables open for food, right next to the stairs in the freezing cold. It was so loud we couldn’t hear each other. The staff were not friendly and I was so upset that they had not told us prior that the venue was booked for the night. Extremely disappointed and ruined my birthday. We had high hopes and thought we were going to have a lovely evening.

It's such a lovely place, very clean and well decorated. All the food on the menu sounds lovely. We got burgers and chicken wings, I highly recommend it. Will go back soon.

Had a fabulous evening with friends and family. Cocktails are delicious, especially the Porn Star Martini. Menu was great with very witty names. We enjoyed the music, decor and ambience of the place. Will definitely be returning this month when visiting from London.

I have eaten at 808 Bar and Kitchen numerous times and have always found the food and service great. There are a great selection of starters along with a creative, tasty selection of mains. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the decor is like no other place in Sunderland! It is so refreshing to see a new place in Sunderland providing the people with great food, decor and service. Well done 808!

Great selection of food and was able to modify my burger in any way I liked! There was a wide selection on cocktails and the food and staff were great! Will be returning very soon!

I have always been impressed with 808 on previous visits yet I was left pleasantly surprised at how much they have improved on my most recent visit last night. The overall atmosphere was more welcoming and the food was great. New chef maybe? I’d recommend the fat bob burger and chips>fries. Great to see somewhere constantly looking to improve. Keep up the good work!

I went to 808 with my friends and enjoyed a few 'gadgie liquids' then had a few slider burgers and a pizza! The food was delicious and fairly priced. The decor was amazing and is exactly what Sunderland needs. Will definitely be back!

We were a group of 7 who had pre-booked a table for tea. While we were perusing the menu the waitress came over and said that because we were a group of 4+ we would not be able to order the Sliders!!

I just don’t understand how you can get it so wrong. From start to finish it was absolutely awful, from the slow, cold and inattentive service to the ridiculously silly food. I had the steak platter and I can honestly say it was the worst thing I’ve eaten it was almost embarrassing, the steak was meant to be medium, it was medium well verging on well done. The pepper corn sauce was horrendous it was split so the oil came to the top and the gloopy salty sauce underneath. What really made me laugh however was my friends meal it was called enter the dragon I believe it; was a so called ‘chicken burger’ this came with a prawn cracker on the top of it with chip shop curry sauce in it, like, come on guys. But to be fair be had a good laugh because of this. Wouldn’t be surprised if this was out of business by next year.

Went here for our last meal before my partner heads off into the RAF. So glad we chose this place. Beautiful interior and great for photos and food was lovely. Would love to go back for drinks some time

Arrived and were greeted pleasantly enough waited 45 mins for food as a result were treated to a free drink wich I found a nice touch overall lovely pleasant place with great staff felt looked after will go back
