Great breakfast Menu, yummy breakfast freshly prepared. Had the eggs Benedict this time had French toast first time. Found the compote a little sweet for me but my personal taste. French toast generous, cooked perfectly. Eggs Benedict creamy Hollandaise and flavourful ham!

Couldn’t fault breakfast and service. But the Staff need to be more informed about vegan dishes, as they serve vegan breakfast my friend ordered, then ask If they want a egg with the vegan breakfast and serve it with real butter. When asked for vegan butter option they don’t do one.so had to have dry toast

Went for breakfast this morning, our first time visiting. We hadn’t booked as it would only allow us to book for lunch as it was already 10:30 am , however we popped along on the off chance , we was greeted quickly and welcoming , we was served promptly and all our food related questions was answered confidently. Our food arrived and was cooked perfectly. We will defo be coming back.

Food was OK, was a lovely atmosphere though and a nice place to meet with friends, I must admit I was a little disappointed as I've herd great things about this place but for me the food was dry and overcooked. I'll try again and get another dish and see if that changes my opinion

Never knew this was here until I saw a recommendation in a local paper for garden centres to visit. Now, this isn't a garden centre, (although there is one on the same road without a cafe), but farm shop, cafe, garden ornament shop, food pet shop and cake shop. The cafe is lovely, we sat in the 'galley' (outside the main restaurant but still indoors) so didn't get to experience the inside, which looks very upmarket for where it is - food was amazing, polite staff, maybe a tiny bit overpriced for some bits but given the standard of food I'll let that go. Definitely worth visiting if in the local area

Called in here on the off chance for breakfast after seeing the reviews. Very happy we did! Breakfast was incredible! Portion was huge and everything cooked perfectly. High points were the very tasty thick bread and gorgeous sausages but really everything was gorgeous. Will definitely go back. I think we were lucky to get a table so probably better to book to avoid disappointment.

Don’t be seduced by past reviews, it’s recent history is chef left, owner took over and it’s lost its heart and its soul and 90% of the great food experience I posted an initial and honest review based simply on the experience. Which was at best, only just ok. I posted it and a few days later the owner contacted me on messenger challenging my review and casting aspersions as to my motivation and me personally. He also invited me to contact him but had blocked me thus negating the offer! So I mailed him via the venue, pointing out that whilst I respected his right to comment equally he must respect my right to review. I make no claims as to being a professionally qualified reviewer, but my 1900+ reviews on trip advisor suggest reasonable awareness and experience. I have friends who are professional reviewers who acknowledge my reviewing skills and indeed follow me and go to venues to validate my experience. Some of the cooking was reasonable, I simply commented on the size of the octopus portion decreasing and the garnish being far too sweet, plus the whitebait undercooked. We did tell the waitress who just nodded and didn’t tell us if she would pass it on. Apparently the sole waitress was only 17 which was his only explanation about her inaction. I later discovered when he told me the previous chef left under a cloud, a fact I was clearly unaware of, despite owner suggesting my alleged “friendship” (which wasn’t true) with the previous chef was the reason for my review. I am sure the owner is committed to his business, the fact that he felt able to share unwanted personal details perplexed me slightly. e mails from him were getting more tangential so I specifically asked him not to message me anymore. When the next e mail came I simply put his various e mail addresses to my junk list so I don’t need to read diatribes from him. The venue needs to focus on and learn from feedback rather than the reviewer. I won’t sadly be interacting with this venue further. The owner really to move away from supercilious name calling that suggests a diagnostic ability way beyond his skill set (unlike my previous professional status), and sort out his own venue, then it won't attract other critical reviews that appear on his unclaimed trip advisor profile. It is nonsense to suggest you need to be an expert to submit a review, its experiential not a professional analysis. Ps a tv channel did get me to participate in a review programme as they recognised my skills unlike vitriolic owner. Apparently this delusional owner thinks you need to get his permission to review, I post on multiple pages (over 1,000,000 readers on trip advisor and over 2,000,000 views on Google) ergo this will appear on a significant number of different review pages, from google, hardens and trip advisor amongst others. In his website promotion, he describes it as a leading venue in Essex! Not sure what it leads? Clearly not quality gastronomy, the menu has dumbed down to be a very basic stereotypical non event. If they concentrated on feedback and quality rather than florid e mails inappropriately targeting reviewers it might regain its totally lost focus. I have been lucky enough to eat in over 50 of the top 100 restaurants in the UK, as listed by Michelin, hardens, good food guide and AA combined. Many Google reviews reflect previous not current chef. The Trip advisor review listing examples in photo

My friend had a ploughman's lunch which was excellent. I had the Yorkshire pudding roast. A little disappointed, it was very dry even with a pot of dipping gravy. Next time the ploughman's for me.

My husband and I took my mother in law for lunch today. She is mid 90’s & reluctant to leave home since the lockdowns, but we prized her out today as it would’ve been my father in law’s 100th birthday, a date that needed celebration. 53 came highly recommended & lived up to it. She even said she’d like to go back one day! She had the ham, egg & chips, my husband had the smoked salmon sandwich & I had the cheese & ham (farmer’s) sandwich, all very nice. I can hear the evening menu calling me!

I have been to 53 for breakfast, lunch and Sunday roast. Each meal has been faultless (and I am picky). Fresh local ingredients are used, and each of the meal elements were delicious. I eat out a lot, and have been back to this bistro 3 times in the last two weeks (I have booked Sunday roast again for this coming weekend because it was so good!). Service is friendly and attentive- meals are cooked fresh to order, which is apparent. I can’t talk about every single ingredient, but for breakfast the stand outs were both freshly laid eggs from the farm, and delicious sausage. Lunch - the burger was to die for (I keep thinking about it 😂), and roast - the BEST gravy ever! Crispy rosemary roast potatoes and homemade Yorkshire pudding. Can’t wait for Sunday!

Disappointed, only one server who was nice, but seemed overwhelmed by the 8 customers. The food looked great, but the why have Champ (basically mashed potatoes) in a baked potato? The fish finger sandwich looked great, but oddly tasted of nothing much. Benefit of the doubt, they are newly open, so they're finding their feet, it's clean and pleasant, nicely decorated. But the food and service need attention.
