Lovely place and frieny staff starters amazing naan bread lovely as was rice but actual curry's very little flavour or spice which was disappointing also one was,served on the plate rather than a dish which is usual at Indian places

Another visit to 1953 tonight the food was absolutely delicious as always . Highly recommend if you haven't tried it out get a table book

Had our Christmas dinner,in the restaurant and was delighted with the experience and the quality of food.

Got takeaway from here. Lovely food, very flavourful without being mega spicy. The butter chicken and peshwari naan were firm favourites!

Went here for my brother's birthday. We were a group of four and we all liked our meals. Great to have this level of quality in Galashiels.

The food is beautiful 😍 🤩 maybe for me, small portions. However, very friendly staff good and quick service with good prices.

There are some mediocre Asian restaurants all over the Borders but this place is definitely not one of them. Totally outstanding, some special work is getting done in the 1953 kitchen.

The food is excellent. There is no desert menu. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Perhaps five checks from staff was a little over the top. There was a distinct lack of heating. In the colder months, this would need to be addressed.

We normally eat in here but decided to get a take away at the weekend due to the weather. Do not hesitate to get a takeaway from here! The food is just as good as being served in the restaurant! Portion sizes are perfect for the cost. You must try the naan breads from here, they are delicious. Delivery driver was very friendly Would 100% recommend here

Delicious food, friendly staff! Three of us had the veg curries which were divine. One had their speciality sherpa lamb chop curry which was very flavourful and tender. Passionately made cocktails and mock-tail + exquisite house beer on tap. Worth travelling to for from anywhere in borders / edinburgh, they have only been open a few months but are sure to be successful. Only criticism would be the decor was a little stark, and certainly did not reflect the warm delicious and flavourful food, however inclusive unisex bathrooms are nice to see.

Just had one of the best meals ever will be recommending this to my friends so friendly quick service and delicious food.

First time here and safe to say that I will be back. The food was absolutely delicious, the staff were attentive, and very friendly. They even went that extra mile, playing 'happy birthday' for my mum and producing a wee dessert. Highly recommend 👌

Went on a Wednesday evening the restaurant was busy was welcomed and shown to our table, we had a mixed starter followed by chicken base camp and chicken makhani, the food was absolutely delicious so lucky to have a restaurant like this in Galashiels. Staff excellent especially the lady who works there nothing to much trouble and genuinely interested in what we had to say. Thank you! Look forward to our next visit.

Ordered a takeaway whilst on holiday in Galashiels. Ordering over the phone was not possible as the number was not working (1 point off service score) but actually ordering through their website was quick and simple. We ordered for collection at a specific time, and on arrival only had to wait about 2 minutes before the food was brought out. Once opened, we were very happy with the quality of the food we ordered. Portion sizes were very generous too. Would definitely recommend.

Delicious food, fantastic flavours, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. Came here for a family celebration and were delighted. Our mains were lovely - we chose Nepalese options because we'd never tried before - and there was even a Nepalese beer available. I'd perhaps have preferred a slightly bigger naan, but that's my only criticism of the food. We'll be back for sure.

The food was lovely,service was a bit slow and staff a bit abrupt. My main issue was when we received an order of drinks the waiter told us he would be bringing our bill as they were closing it 3 minutes,3 minutes to drink our drinks we had paid for,surely would have been better to tell us that before bringing drinks.

We ordered a takeaway for a large group of friends and it was fantastic, thank you. From the moment I first contacted them, they were so helpful, they advised on quantities and made sure I had a good selection to feed everyone. They arrived when they said they would and everyone loved the food. I can’t wait to visit the restaurant. Thank you

Food ok but service shocking drinks forgotten table not cleared had to ask a few times to get our drinks .Ordered sweets but table still not cleared with main course dirty plates .Not enough staff in place to handle all customers .

First time in Galashiels was walking around and so 1953, poped in to see what it was like. Very nice resturant and food everyone must come.

10/10 the best dining experience I have had. The staff were so welcoming and made sure we had the best experience ever. The food was traditional and so divine. Being from India this is the first place I have found in Scotland that made me feel like I was back at home. All the food was fresh and made with so much love, really enjoyed the food and would recommend hands down.

Guys.. Seriously you have to come try this restaurant out..You know when the photos on the website always look better than the actual dishes. Well this place the food looks even better when it's brought out to the table. Myself my partner and my 2 children (13-6) came in and it was incredible...the staff are lovely the decor is awesome. We can't wait to go back...oh and the cocktails lush!!

Went as a family (2 young kids) on Sunday night and great to see the place busy. We weren't overly hungry so shared a few starters and main between us all and there was plenty of food. Tried a few of the 1953 dishes and alongside the usual Indian type dishes and they were all fantastic but the 1953 dishes in particular were outstanding. Kids said they liked everything too which says a lot! Great to try authentic Nepalese food and will absolutely be back. Will also be our first choice for an Indian takeaway in the future.

Visited this newly opened restaurant for the first time and loved it. The owners have tastefully refurbished the interior and there was a wide and varied menu. The food was excellent and the service first class - special mention to Sammy! 😀 Highly recommended and will definitely be back.

Tremendous food , went for the Nepalese side of the menu delicious….Ghurka lager amazing aswell . Sammy the waiter/chef 🤔 needs chasing when you order drinks 😂 Sammy ? but cannot fault the place at all , one of the best Indian/Nepalese meals I’ve had .
