This restaurant is superb the food is amazing and the staff are fabulous we had a lovely meal to celebrate my mother in laws 90 th birthday the atmosphere was relaxed and happy I highly recommend this great restaurant

Ate here before going to see Kirsteen Harvey at MacArts Music venue as just a short walk away....don't live in the area so chose due to previous reviews. Didn't disappoint & food was excellent as were staff and I'd go as far as saying it's the best Indian food I've tasted. We had Lakeside fish curry & Makhani chicken with rice & garlic nan....both I'd recommend. Thanks again & will definitely be back😍

Service was nice and fast. The food was nice. But... The portion size versus the price was the downside. One non alcoholic drink, chicken starter (very small), rice, chicken dish, and a chapati, and the extremely small piece of ice cream cost around £35. And I was left still feeling a bit hungry.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would! Exceptional food, the staff are just wonderful and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and the atmosphere is really lovely. I can't wait to visit again soon. Congratulations on all the awards, you can see why they won!

Everything was fine apart from my main meal. Ordered a lamb dish and received three lamb shanks which were 90% bone. Very disappointed for an almost £20 dish.

The wrong order was delivered he did come back and deliver the correct order after we called but the food was pretty cold by then

Best Indian restaurant by far in the Borders. Table of 12 all really enjoyed starters and mains. Staff were also very good, friendly, and patient with such a large group. Have eaten 4 times there now and always came away delighted with our meals 👌

My son loved his korma, I ordered the chicken base camp which I usually get, normally quite mild, this time was so spicy I couldn’t bring myself to eat it

The food was delicious with a wide variety, especially the Nepali dishes. The biryani stood out and was slightly better than other places I've tried. The interior is excellent and well-maintained, creating a great ambiance. However, the waiter’s unpleasant attitude, acting as if we came for free food, dampened the overall experience. It could have been wonderful if not for this unfortunate interaction. I saw courteous and attentive waiting staff on other tables though.

First time visit on Friday, we booked our table for 6pm and just as well we did. By the time we left the place was packed. Food was exquisite, service was brilliant and atmosphere was great. Thoroughly recommend this place. Sadly never took photos of the phenomenal food

got 1 chicken karma wich was full of chicken the sauce was nice and thik and then got a prawn one wich only had 4 prawns in it the sauce was runny chips was nice rice was good

Absolutely amazing visit last night - the food is delicious and the service was really good. We celebrated a birthday and the attention to detail with a helium balloon waiting and free dessert was a really nice touch. 100% will be back again soon!

First time and certainly not disappointed. Friendly service, great tasting and good portion size. Now my favourite takeaway in the Borders . Now my third time and I feel the chicken wasn’t as nice as if they have started using reformed chicken or a cheaper supplier . Hence loosing 2 stars . Not sure if we will be back now. Really shame as our previous meals from there have been great ( same meal ordered every time btw)

Visited on a quiet midweek lunchtime. Immediately welcomed and guided to our chosen table. The selection of dishes is superb. Service was excellent, answering tricky questions about ingredients (allergy) and confirming with the kitchen, very careful. Our chosen dishes were very well presented, the aroma was beautiful, the taste was even better. We both think that this is among the best restaurants for this cuisine that we have ever experienced. If you are in Galashiels and would like a Nepalese/Indian type meal do visit the 1953.

We were very disappointed. The lamb was very tough and inedible. It didn't appear as the dishes were cooked individually, some of the dishes were covered with the same sauce and they taste the same. And also seafood wasn't good. Overall nothing exciting. We be hard pressed to go back.

I was treated to a night at 1953 last night for my 35th birthday and what a night it was, incredible food and service was top notch. Even though we were a group of 7 and there were a few other larger tables in to we could not fault it from the minute we walked in until we were ready to leave, my family (hellers) brought me a cake and the 2 gentleman working and the whole restaurant sang happy birthday to me as they brought my cake (I so wanted to slide under the table 🤦🏼‍♀️😂) but it just lovely all round. The food is top tier absolutely delicious and we can't wait to return, the 2 lads serving us and all involved with the rest thank you so much for a great night ✨️🍾♥️

Amazing place. Best Indian / Nepalese food we've found in The Borders.

Venue is OK, a bit more Wetherspoon-ish than I was expecting but clean/tidy and in good shape. Wait staff were polite. Starters were OK but curries lacked flavour - just heat and madras was a strange orange hue and very creamy*, bhuna didn't have flavour - we were quite disappointed. *Menu did mention cream but it's unusual for a madras and was far creamier and thicker than even menu suggested. A real shame as we had high hopes. The sizzler platters looked and smelled good but we didn't order those - perhaps that's their signature dish?

Delicious food; Mixed Tikka grill and Salmon Tikka, Rogan Josh sauce!! Raju who looked after us was lovely. The only thing for me is that it's a bit overpriced for the size of portions.

We had lunch with my partner for his birthday, the food was amazingly delicious & freshly made. The service by Raju was outstanding and he even brought my partner a courtesy dessert when he learnt it was his birthday. Regardless of that, such a nice person to talk to, calm and polite. Super recommended restaurant that we are already looking forward to visiting again. All the best to the restaurant and to Raju, wishing you the best in Scotland soon with your family. Thank you!

Me and my friends had a fantastic dining experience, we were all sat quickly and we were impressed with the variety of options on the menu. There were also vegetarian options so people with different dietary requirements had many options to choose from. The service was so good, our waiter was incredibly friendly and I recommend the chicken momos!

We have been for a few meals here and the food is excellent. On our most recent visit Raju stood out from other members of staff by providing us with first-class service. We will be returning soon.
